A visit to the stunning beaches of Bali is a must for any traveller seeking tranquillity and natural beauty.
Ubud: The Cultural Heart of Bali
Located amidst lush greenery and terraced rice fields, Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali. This charming town is a haven for art enthusiasts, yoga practitioners, and seekers of spiritual enlightenment. Explore the vibrant local markets where you'll find unique handicrafts, textiles, and traditional artworks. Visit the magnificent Ubud Palace and witness captivating Balinese dance performances. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the Ubud Monkey Forest, where cheeky macaques roam freely amidst ancient temples. For a transformative experience, participate in a yoga or meditation retreat that will rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Ubud is a place where creativity, spirituality, and natural beauty converge.
Temples: A Glimpse into Balinese Spirituality
Bali is known for its countless temples, each with its own story and significance. The island's spiritual essence is deeply rooted in Hinduism, and the temples provide a glimpse into Balinese religious and cultural practices. The iconic Tanah Lot temple, perched on a rock formation by the sea, is a sight to behold, especially during sunset. Uluwatu Temple, located on a cliff with stunning ocean views, is not only a place of worship but also a venue for mesmerising Kecak dance performances. Besakih Temple, known as the "Mother Temple," is the largest and most important Hindu temple in Bali, set against the backdrop of Mount Agung. Exploring these sacred sites allows travellers to appreciate the deep spirituality and devotion of the Balinese people.
Rice Terraces: The Green Tapestry of Bali
The iconic rice terraces of Bali are a testament to the island's agricultural heritage. The intricate system of rice cultivation, known as subak, has been practised for centuries and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The emerald-green rice fields, with their cascading tiers, create a stunning visual spectacle. Tegalalang and Jatiluwih are two of the most famous rice terrace destinations in Bali. Take a leisurely stroll through the terraces, breathe in the fresh air, and witness the farmers at work. The rice terraces not only offer a breathtaking landscape but also provide insight into the sustainable farming practices that sustain the island's economy.
Balinese Cuisine: A Gastronomic Journey
No visit to Bali is complete without indulging in its delectable cuisine. Balinese food is a flavorful blend of spices, fresh ingredients, and cultural influences. Sample the famous Babi Guling (suckling pig), Satay, and Nasi Goreng (fried rice) at local warungs (small eateries). Immerse yourself in the unique dining experience of a traditional Balinese feast, known as a "megibung," where a variety of dishes are served on a banana leaf. Don't forget to try the refreshing and healthy Balinese specialty, Jajan Pasar (market snacks), which includes colourful and sweet treats. Bali also boasts a thriving café culture, with quaint coffee shops serving artisanal coffee and innovative dishes. Embark on a gastronomic journey that will tantalise your taste buds and leave you craving for more.

Bali, May 2024
Sunday, 19 May 2024
I took a dawn flight to Bali (again) started the first chapter of the Novel I borrowed from the Library "the people we met on vacation" to accompany me during this holiday.
My first destination was nana's home to store my luggage. After that, I headed to Canggu to grab my coffee and enjoy my first beach of this holiday.
My second drop off was the viral Gigi Susu, it was so pretty as I expected but way too crowded. I took away hot flat white, and forget to ask to oatmeal for the milk-- in which it's their specialty. Well, anyway I continued my walk and passed through Kawi Sari Kopi and Motel Mexicola, arriving to Batu Bolong Beach. I continued my walk to Nelayan beach. There I contemplated by listening to songs that probably can drag me to past memories, and wrote in my notes:
TS - Wildest Dream: I no longer feel anything about my previous relationship & he himself. I will burn that gift, if I had the chance.
(I forget the song, probably Kung-These Girls): Still wanna have my own family who love each others. I cherish my current life. I can buy myself flight ticket to Bali, I can't buy myself flat white & sip it on the beach-- which felt so right
Rihanna - California King Bed: call me masochist, but that reminiscing of teenage brokenheart felt so good. I hugged my younger self and told her she's cool, she's broken, but she's fine. The one who love you is yourself. Go girl!
I continued my schedule to Zycle Canggu: such a worth experience, the vibes, and the song (all I can remember is "wonderwall") really love Zycle Canggu. After that I waited for Nana in Zin Cafe, ordered Green Juice & Pomodoro Spaghetti. I really enjoyed the noon there with a summer breeze, and fatigue due to zycle. I saw a guy swiping dating apps, thinking he's looking for someone to hook up for free. I mean really canggu full of people my age and are beautiful.
After few hours, Nana and her family came to pick me up and we continued to Sunday Market La Brisa which is so crowded and full of people. The only thing I bought was Gusto chocomint & caramel seasalt. After La Brisa we catching sunset at Times Beach Warung but it was also crowded and we had to wait for 12 queue. While waiting for the queue I took a nap on beach and ate beach tofu. Approaching sunset we got the bean bag and I ordered another juice, this time carrot and friends, match with the book cover I read.
I hate having a crush while I'm on vacation, he could ruin my mood. That day he kindda screw my mood after replied with laconic answers (if I may not mistaken), and yeah off we go to our next destination for dinner, it was mediterranean restaurant called "Shelter" in Pererenan. I ordered Buratta and it was amazing! The place is also comfortable. After that, we went to Orchard Bar in seminyak, but we were late and missed the first session which consists all of my favorite songs :") but thank God I had a courage to request Everlong.
During the way I told nana that my mood was dropped due to this guy. I really like him, but we're fundamentally different. I can't drag him to worship God if from the beggining of his consciousness he refuses God.

Monday, 20 May 2024
Nana made me breakfast of instant noodle, beef bacons, scrambled eggs, and tomato cherries accompanied by exelco gold which tasted so good. After that I continued my journey to ubud by taking Trans Dewata. I did not really see the road because I was too focus with my phone, and then, I arrived in Ubud before midday. I took 1 km walked to Pillow Inn and redeemed my free massage with extra 15 minutes. After that I went to Kebun Bistro and read few chapters there, savouring my food and my moments. The moment I've been waited for a decade; visiting Kebun Bistro.
An impromptu idea came after lunch, I headed to Paradiso and missed to estimate time. A fatal mistake was by not bringing mukena so I wasted time to commute: Paradiso - Pillow Inn - Paradiso - Pillow Inn, and sacrifice my wishlist toward Panipuri in Chai of Tiger. Anyway just like another slow B&W movie, I fell asleep in the semi private cinema. After woke up, I tried to bring back my mood by choosing dessert in Paradiso, but turned out I mad at supermarket because I was tired, thirsty and broken heart.
Back to the inn, I called Eka and told her that I will give up on B. I really love him but he seemed pulled himself away. Eventually, I pulled myself up and forced myself to take dinner and sleep fast. By the time I arrived in the restaurant, the dinner is exhaust but I said to the crew that I don't eat rice, so it's OK if it's only the oseng tempe and bihun. I mingled with the kids and got a bad full of pride teenage parisian who works as bartender. I felt like ubud was like a small community which is one knows another. I didn't talk much that time unlike the usual me because my energy is draining, my mood was drop due to a lover that hasn't ever been a lover. But from the short conversation I joined I heard a conclusion that "what is meant to you will me meant to be yours." Well, no need to worry, Nona. We'll be fine.
Tuesday, 21 May 2024
Another long awaited list: campuhan rigde walk. I didn't force myself for sunrise, I just woke up as fast as I can. Turned out campuhan is not that magical as I imagined. It was path. No ricefield--- just bush. Also, it's quiet crowded. Reaching the edge, I took a rest in a random restaurant to buy a bottle of mineral water and meditate. After my jog, walk and meditation, I finally found the solution for my feeling for B! It's always been my skill when I was a teenager: dragging a guy to friendzone! You name it! I don't know whether my current bestfriends who are boys were initially wanted to know me more as a crush or purely a friend, but one thing true is I always dragging them to a best-friend zone. I love B, and I don't want to lose him, at the same time I know that he was not an ideal husband for me. So, it will be fair enough if I drag him into a beautiful friendship; I will always be there for him and he'll not go anywhere. Is that cruel? Well, I don't think that he's in love with me. So, as long as no kissing and cuddling involve. It will be fine. Holding hand still be fine, Bram hold my hands several time under some circumstances.
Okay after campuhan I waited for Yoga class which was late. The yoga also involved meditation, so it was really nice to affirm myself that I will embrace good energy and release negative energy to universe. After yoga, I had breakfast and chose menu called "Bonjour" which was croissant with scrambled egg, beef ham, and veggie. It was such a delicious meals.
I went to the rooftop (co-working space) to write (reflect the prior day and affirm the day) and read few chapters of the novel.
After that, I dropped my clothes in laundry and continued my journey to next inn called ubud tropica. This time I had my private room but sadly by the time I arrived there, I cannot do the early check in. Thus, I kill my time by chilling by the pool with my pink sportbra and grey training. There I tried to read the novel but then I saw a cute guy laid next to me, he's there before I came.
I forced myself to greeted him first and the conversation flows, I was also the one who asked his name first. "Will," he said, I believe it's the shortern of "William", then I introduce as "Winona."
After bragging, at 1.30 PM they say I can go to my room. I was surprised the room was more comfortable than I expected. If I could rank the accomodation in ubud, this one would be number one. After took a shower and dry my hair, I went back again to Goutama street, this time to Jinny's garden, which is so pretty. Prettier than in social media. I ordered another juice, which I don't remember: pineapple orange perhaps. After Jinny's I went back to hotel and prepare myself. But Nana didn't estimate the traffic and we were late for the dinner, almost an hour late. Okay so this is the second time she made me wait. Another drama was it was suddenly rain when I want to go to her hotel.
Well, anyway the fine dining experience was amazing I finally ate caviar for the first time in my life. The food amazing, I will make a separate post about it. After dinner, the manager took us for hotel tour, which is awesome! Hope someday I can stay in Kappa senses. Now it's time to go back to reality, and work hard for money.
As it is predictable, B denied to watch movie with me virtually. He said he just finished work by midnight, maybe a lie maybe not, that time I believed it's a lie. Thank God I did meditation earlier that day, so I embraced it, I did not feel disappointed or anything because he didn't even say sorry. I mean who am I? Don't you remember your plan to be his bestie only? So, no string attach, no hard feeling. Be cool. Ok knp malah curhat ya, ini kan blog bahas liburan ke Bali heuheu.
Wednesday, 22 May 2024
The essence of holiday: you can get up from bed anytime you want, and this is what I did. My auntie called me and we talked a lot mostly about his husband health condition lately. After our phone session, I dried my underwears and prepared myself for the day. I don't even have time to go out and chill by the pool again, which is okay because partially I was to lazy to get out from my comfortable room.
First stop of the day was also a long awaited wishlist which is Casa Luna. I went there for brunch which I ordered Shaksouka. Seeing old wealth people enjoying their brunch as much as I did.

places: uluwatu
Tumblr media
i never had a thing with bali. i remember visited bali once when i was a kid with my family. we had a long, tiring road trip across java and bali. i remember visiting gwk, berenang at pantai kuta yang warna pasirnya gak impressive, mampir ke tanah lot, dan makan indomie di warung pinggir jalan menghadap ke kintamani. but it wasn't remarkable. or perhaps i was just too little to appreciate the island. i was not impressed, i decided to skip my high school trip to bali and bought a camera instead.
dalam rentang waktu 9 bulan terakhir, ini kali kedua gue ke bali selama menjadi orang dewasa. guess what? akhirnya gue bisa menikmati bali! to be more specific, gue cinta banget berada di uluwatu! september lalu, gue ke bali untuk business trip. i extended the trip since dabi also joined me and we decided to spend a weekend there together. we biked almost 40 km in a day for beach hopping at uluwatu, fine dined, sang and danced until 3 in the morning and went swimming after, and watched the sunniest sunset at bingin. we also explore some other areas like seminyak, canggu, and kuta. but i found uluwatu resonates with my personality and interest amongst all areas. white sand beaches, not too crowded, laid back, a lot of the areas are still raw, untouched, dan banyak pepohonan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sejak trip itu, gue yakin banget bahwa di trip bali gue yang selanjutnya, gue harus stay lama di uluwatu. so i did on the last long weekend. i had the best 3 days in uluwatu and 2 days in seminyak (again). now, i can conclude that this island is meant for the young adults. being too little, you can't appreciate it enough. being too young, you may not have the opportunity to enjoy the proper experiences as sometimes it can be a little costly (fine dine, great cocktails, great brunch and coffee). too old, you may struggle encountering all those stairs to the beach, not to mention some of the great beaches here are only accessible by bike.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after having a real job, i can appreciate the day offs more. i took the earliest flight in the morning and went straight to the beach after leaving my bags and had a quick bite. dabi and i swam for the whole day, two days straight. i didn't even mind turning 3 shades darker. if not swimming, i occasionally just slept or relaxed by the beach and reading my light non-fiction reads, or simply watch dabi swimming at the ocean. life felt so much better in bali last week. my office problems suddenly felt so insignificant and floated away. the only problems i encountered were only between thinking about what are we having for dinner or when will i go back swimming to the beach. i love being in bali with dabi. i can imagine myself having a sabbatical leave in uluwatu someday. i'd love to learn how to surf. i'd love to spend all day doing nothing, just reading by the beach again. i'd love to explore the other beaches and biked across the areas.. i'd love to stay here for a longer time.
Tumblr media
now i'm writing this post in a post-holiday blues.

If you're seeking a budget-friendly adventure, consider this guide to Mount Batur and explore the captivating landscapes without breaking the bank. While it's often associated with luxury resorts and high-end experiences, immersing yourself in the beauty of Bali is entirely feasible with some savvy strategies. Amed Beach Bali, with its tranquil shores and unique underwater landscapes, is another gem worth exploring on a budget. With a bit of planning, you can savour the enchanting allure of Bali without compromising your financial plans.
Budget-Friendly Accommodation:
Tumblr media
One of the key factors influencing the overall cost of your trip is accommodation. Bali offers a wide range of options to suit every budget. Instead of opting for upscale resorts, consider guesthouses, hostels, or budget hotels. Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, and Seminyak, known for its vibrant nightlife, have numerous affordable accommodation options that provide comfort without the hefty price tag.
Local Transportation:
Tumblr media
Navigating Bali can be both adventurous and economical if you choose the right transportation options. Renting a scooter is a popular and cost-effective way to explore the island at your own pace. However, be sure to adhere to local traffic rules and wear helmets for safety. Alternatively, public transportation, such as the Perama shuttle buses, is an affordable option for getting between major tourist destinations. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also available, but it's essential to use reputable companies to avoid unnecessary expenses.
Street Food Delights:
Tumblr media
Indulging in local cuisine is an integral part of any travel experience, and Bali offers an array of delectable street food options that won't burn a hole in your pocket. Warungs, traditional Balinese eateries, serve authentic dishes at a fraction of the cost you'd find in touristy restaurants. Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Mie Goreng (fried noodles), and satay skewers are popular and affordable choices. Embrace the local flavors while saving on your food budget.
Embrace the Free and Low-Cost Activities:
Tumblr media
Bali's natural beauty is a treasure trove for budget-conscious travelers. Many of the island's attractions can be explored without spending a dime. Visit the iconic Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud, hike up Mount Batur for a stunning sunrise, or relax on the sun-kissed beaches of Kuta and Seminyak. Temples like Tanah Lot and Uluwatu offer breathtaking views and cultural experiences without entrance fees. Exploring Bali's natural wonders and cultural sites on a budget is not only possible but incredibly enriching.
Shop Smart:
Tumblr media
Bali is a shopper's paradise, offering everything from traditional crafts to modern fashion. To stay within budget, opt for local markets and stalls instead of high-end boutiques. Bargaining is a common practice in Bali's markets, so don't be afraid to negotiate prices. Ubud Market and Sukawati Art Market are excellent places to find affordable souvenirs, clothing, and handmade crafts. Additionally, consider purchasing essentials like sunscreen, toiletries, and snacks from local convenience stores to avoid inflated prices in tourist areas.
Choose the Right Time to Visit:
Tumblr media
The timing of your trip can significantly impact your budget. Bali experiences a high and low tourist season. Avoid peak times, such as the Christmas and New Year period, to secure better deals on accommodation and activities. The shoulder seasons, typically April to June and September to November, offer a good balance between favorable weather and lower prices.
Utilize Technology for Savings:
Tumblr media
In the age of technology, numerous apps and websites can help you stretch your budget in Bali. Booking accommodations through platforms like Airbnb or Agoda often leads to better deals than traditional hotel booking sites. Apps like GoJek and Grab can be lifesavers for affordable transportation, and they often offer discounts for first-time users. Keep an eye out for promotions and discounts on various travel-related services to maximize savings.
Conclusion:
Tumblr media
Bali, with its enchanting landscapes and rich culture, is a destination that can be enjoyed on a budget. By making thoughtful choices in accommodation, transportation, dining, and activities, you can experience the best of Bali without compromising your wallet. Embrace the spirit of adventure, interact with the locals, and savour the beauty of this Indonesian gem while keeping your travel expenses in check. With a bit of planning and these budget-friendly tips, your Bali getaway can be an unforgettable experience without the financial strain.

Savoring Balinese Cuisine: Seminyak's Top Eateries
Tumblr media
Bali, an Indonesian island known for its forested volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, beaches, and coral reefs, is also celebrated for its rich culinary heritage. Seminyak, a beach resort area at the southern end of Bali, has emerged as a vibrant epicenter for gourmet enthusiasts and food explorers. The culinary scene in Seminyak is a harmonious blend of traditional Balinese flavors and international influences, offering a unique gastronomic experience to its visitors. The diversity of its food landscape reflects not only the traditional Balinese cooking methods and ingredients but also the modern, creative spins added by local and international chefs.
When discussing gourmet experiences in Seminyak, the conversation invariably includes the phrase "Seminyak dinner." This seemingly simple dish has been transformed in the hands of local chefs, who infuse it with a variety of local spices and flavors. From the traditional Babi Guling (suckling pig) sandwich, which is a Balinese specialty, to more modern interpretations featuring locally sourced vegetables and seafood, the sandwich offerings in Seminyak illustrate the culinary creativity of the region. These sandwiches, often served with a side of fresh sambal or local fruits, provide a quick yet immersive way to taste the local cuisine.
However, the culinary journey in Seminyak is not limited to sandwiches. The area is renowned for its Warungs – small family-owned restaurants – where one can savor authentic Balinese dishes like Nasi Campur (mixed rice), Sate Lilit (Balinese satay), and Lawar (a traditional mix
made of vegetables, coconut, and minced meat or fish, often mixed with rich herbs and spices). These dishes are not just meals; they are a reflection of the island's culture and traditions. Eating in a warung, often characterized by its open-air setting and simple decor, offers an authentic experience of Balinese life and hospitality.
Seafood also plays a pivotal role in Seminyak's culinary tapestry. Given the town's coastal location, local eateries pride themselves on serving the freshest catch of the day, cooked with an array of herbs and spices unique to the island. Dishes such as Ikan Bakar (grilled fish), Udang Goreng (fried shrimp), and Cumi-Cumi Saus Padang (squid in Padang sauce) are not just meals but culinary adventures. These dishes showcase the island's ability to balance flavors – sweet, sour, spicy, and savory – in a harmonious blend that delights the palate.
Furthermore, Seminyak's culinary scene is not just about traditional Balinese food. It's a melting pot of international cuisines, influenced by the myriad of cultures that converge in Bali. From Mediterranean to Japanese, and from Indian to American, there's a global gastronomic experience waiting at every corner. This fusion of flavors is not just a testament to the international tourists that flock to Bali but also to the adaptability and creativity of Balinese chefs who have embraced these global influences while staying true to their culinary roots.
Desserts in Seminyak are as diverse and intriguing as its main courses. Traditional Balinese sweets like Dadar Gulung (a green pancake rolled with coconut and palm sugar) and Klepon (sweet rice cake balls filled with palm sugar) are widely available and provide a sweet end to any meal. However, international desserts have also found a home in Seminyak, with local ingredients adding a unique twist to classic treats.
The beverage culture in Seminyak complements its culinary diversity. From local Balinese coffee, known for its strong and rich flavor, to a variety of tropical fruit juices and smoothies, there is always something to quench one's thirst. For those seeking something stronger, Seminyak's bars and lounges offer a range of local and international spirits and cocktails, often featuring local fruits and herbs.
In conclusion, the food scene in Seminyak is a vibrant tapestry of flavors, textures, and experiences. It offers not just a meal but a journey through the island's culture and history. Each dish tells a story of the island's past and present, of the local farmers and fishermen, and of the chefs who bring these ingredients to life. For food enthusiasts and culinary explorers, Seminyak is more than just a destination; it's an adventure into the heart of Balinese culture and cuisine. The region's commitment to preserving traditional cooking methods while embracing modern influences results in a dynamic and ever-evolving culinary landscape.
This dynamic nature of Seminyak's cuisine also speaks to the broader themes of cultural exchange and adaptation. As chefs and food artisans blend local ingredients with international techniques and flavors, they create a culinary dialogue that transcends borders. This fusion not only enhances the gastronomic experience but also fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures and their cuisines.
Moreover, Seminyak's food scene is reflective of broader trends in sustainable and ethical eating. Many eateries focus on locally sourced, organic ingredients, supporting the local economy and reducing the environmental impact of food production and consumption. This commitment to sustainability is not just a nod to global culinary trends but a reflection of the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony with people, nature, and the spiritual.
In the realm of culinary education and gastronomic tourism, Seminyak serves as a model for other destinations. Cooking classes and food tours are popular among visitors, offering hands-on experiences that delve into the art of Balinese cooking. These interactions not only enrich the visitor's experience but also contribute to the preservation and dissemination of traditional culinary practices.
Finally, it's important to note the role of innovation and experimentation in Seminyak's culinary evolution. Chefs and food entrepreneurs are constantly exploring new ideas and concepts, pushing the boundaries of traditional Balinese cuisine. This spirit of innovation ensures that the culinary scene in Seminyak remains dynamic and exciting, continually offering new experiences to locals and visitors alike.
In essence, the culinary landscape of Seminyak is a microcosm of Bali itself - diverse, vibrant, and deeply connected to its cultural roots. For anyone looking to experience the essence of Balinese culture, a journey through the eateries of Seminyak is an essential and enriching experience.
