Embarking on a road trip along the North Coast 500 (NC500) in the stunning Scottish Highlands is a dream come true for any avid traveler. The NC500 offers a breathtaking journey through some of Scotland's most picturesque landscapes, from rugged coastlines to towering mountains, with the promise of kind-hearted locals, thrilling roads, historic castles, tranquil lochs, fine whisky, and delicious food along the way. Imagine a trip where every day feels like a postcard-worthy adventure, and you've got the NC500.

The North Coast 500 is a 516-mile circular route that starts and ends in Inverness. The journey takes you along the coast, offering an ever-changing panorama of breathtaking scenery. One of the highlights of our NC500 adventure was the incredible weather we experienced. Scotland is notorious for its unpredictable climate, but we were fortunate to have mostly sunny and clear days. J12 - Dimanche 11 Juin

Aujourd'hui environ 5h de route pour relier Gairloch à Breakish dans l'ile de skye. Nous avons pris la "Bealach na bà" qui relie applecross à Tornapress. c'est une "one track road" avec des virages en épingle a cheveux et des pentes à 25%. Autant dire que 'qui a fait la "bealach na bà' n'est plus un gamin !! dorothée a arrêtée de filmer car elle avait le vertige ! Après 30 Km de cette petite route 'charmante' nous avons fait une pose dans le joli village de Plockton, puis avons continué jusqu'à notre 'tiny house' . Le temps qui était couvert au départ a fini par s'éclaircir et nous avons fait une balade autour de notre maison et avons découvert un joli cimetière donnant sur la plage!

Day Forty-six

The weather has continued to descend in today, so with the forecast looking a little more favourable tomorrow, I'm here camping up at Applecross for a further night.

Given the dreary rain outside, and the tremendous climb ahead of me next, I feel this jas been a good choice. The tent has been holding up well despite the occasionally gale-force winds howling down the hills, and the comfy sofa in reception has given me a good opportunity to let the limbs recover a bit.

Applecross and the campsite here have been an excellent place to chill out for a few days. The facilities and staff here are great, and it's a lovely little location. I've also been very kindly allowed opportunity to get my electronics recharged whilst the grey skies prevent my solar panel from being too useful.

In the gaps between the harsher weather yesterday, I had a walk down to the local shop to stock up a little on essentials and snacks, and have made ample use of the wonderful showers here too.

The campers passing through the site have also been wonderful, and after trading tales and experiences I've not only swapped contact details with a few but have also received some very kind gifts of food and fuel from some who are at the end of their own travels. Thank you all!

The waters here are also used for military training exercises, so have had some interesting sights with helicopters flying low overhead.

It's kind of interesting when resting up to feel all the tingles and twinges in the muscles after a meal as the body receives nutrients and starts getting busy repairing everything. I interpret the sensation as a good thing!

The rest will be well needed. Tomorrow comes Bealach na Bà!
