The Bearspaw south feeder main has been reconnected to Calgary's water distribution system, city reservoirs have been filled and all water use restrictions have been lifted, Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said at a news conference Sunday morning. Outdoor water restrictions have been in effect since the feeder main, which distributes most of Calgary's treated water, was shut down at the end of August for additional, urgent repairs following its rupture on June 5. Since that rupture, Calgary — and the surrounding communities that depend on its water supply — have been moving through various levels of water restrictions.

Prince's Island Park, Calgary (No. 5)
The City of Calgary, 848 km2 (327 sq mi) in size, consists of an inner city surrounded by suburban communities of various density. The city is immediately surrounded by two municipal districts – Foothills County to the south and Rocky View County to the north, west and east. Proximate urban communities beyond the city within the Calgary Metropolitan Region include: the City of Airdrie to the north; the City of Chestermere, the Town of Strathmore and the Hamlet of Langdon to the east; the towns of Okotoks and High River to the south; and the Town of Cochrane to the northwest.[166] Numerous rural subdivisions are located within the Elbow Valley, Springbank and Bearspaw areas to the west and northwest. The Tsuu T'ina Nation Indian Reserve No. 145 borders Calgary to the southwest.
Over the years, the city has made many land annexations to facilitate growth. In the most recent annexation of lands from the surrounding Rocky View County, completed in July 2007, the city annexed Shepard, a former hamlet, and placed its boundaries adjacent to the Hamlet of Balzac and City of Chestermere, and very close to the City of Airdrie.

Calgarians embrace final days of summer temperatures amid continued water restrictions Calgary
As we near the middle of September temperatures continue to feel more like we’re still in the middle of July.  Since Thursday, temperatures have remained well above seasonal in Calgary, including breaking a longstanding heat record on Friday afternoon. Calgarians, however, are leaning into the heat, taking opportunities to enjoy being either out on or along the shores of the Bow River. Calgary resident Steven Shepard says he is appreciating the hotter temperatures while they last. “I’m actually enjoying it quite well. The heat has been nice, especially with our winters being so harsh,” Shepard said. “Usually I’ll try to get my errands done early in the morning, or I’ll go for a bike ride.” Despite the hotter temperatures, Calgary’s overall water usage dropped by 9 million litres on Saturday for a total of 496 million litres of water. That brings water consumption down from “unsustainable” levels to “strained.” Story continues below advertisement City of Calgary potable water demand dashboard for Sept. 8, 2024. More on Calgary More videos City of Calgary director of climate and environment Carolyn Bowen thanked Calgarians for doing more to reduce water use, but stressed more needs to be done to prevent further strain on city infrastructure. Get breaking National news For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen. “Over the past few days we have experienced two significant issues: a pump failure and a malfunctioning component in our treatment process,” explained Bowen. “The team responded swiftly to address these concerns, but these incidents highlight the risks with maintaining high operational pressure over extended periods.” Trending Now Canada’s telecoms may shed assets amid slow growth. What could they cut? Wasp frenzy? Why you might be getting stung more this year As of Saturday, the number of bylaw complaints increased to 1,73 residential, 262 commercial and 115 multi-family, with four violation tickets being issued, raising the total to 26. Bowen says ongoing repairs remain on schedule with one section nearly completed. Story continues below advertisement “On sites one to four, which are located on 33rd Ave N.W., and at Shouldice Park, we have completed all 12 pipe repairs,” Bowen said. “We are now in the final stages of backfilling and paving to bring the road back online.” City of Calgary feeder main repair milestones as of Sept. 8, 2024. Member Arcand-Paul: Mr. Speaker, yesterday marked Red Dress Day. This House has heard the history of this day many times, but not once has this House ever acknowledged the women that we know about and who have been reported by media as having gone missing or been murdered in Alberta. Today I want to speak power to the names of those women so we never ever forget them and commit to no more stolen sisters, brothers, and nonbinary kin.
Alannah Cardinal, Amber Tuccaro, Annette Holywhiteman, Bernadette Ahenakew, Bonnie Jack, Brittany Bearspaw, Caralyn King, Chantelle Bushie, Cheryl Black, Christine Cardinal, Cindy Gladue, Deanna Bellerose, Delena Lefthand Dixon, Delores Brower, Desiree Oldwoman, Edna Bernard, Elaine Alook, Freda Goodrunning, Gloria Black Plume, Gloria Gladue, Helene Ratfat, Jacqueline Crazybull, Janice Desjarlais, Jarita Naistus, Jeanette Cardinal, Jessica Cardinal, Joanne Ghostkeeper, Joey English, Joyce Hewitt, Juanita Cardinal, Judy Chescue, Justine Cochrane, Katie Ballantyne, Krystle Knott, Leanne Benwell, Leslie Talley, Linda Scott, Lori Kasprick, Lorilee Francis, Maggie Burke, Marie Desjarlais, Mary Kreiser, Mavis Mason, Michelle Hadwen, Misty Potts, Monica Cardinal, Pauline Brazeau, Philomene Lemay, Rachel Quinney, Rene Gunning, Rhonda Running Bird, Rose Decoteau, Roxanne Isadore, Ruth Cocks, Shelly Dene, Shirley Waquan, Stella St. Arnault, Terrie Dauphinais, Trudy Gopher, Violet Heathen, and all those who remain unreported or unknown. You are all our sisters, aunties, mothers, kokums, chapans, and nonbinary kin. Rest in power.
The work we do must always be to address missing and murdered Indigenous peoples as everyday work. Further, the work we do must include all women, especially trans women. This is nonnegotiable. This includes the work being done through the Premier’s Council on MMIWG such as the implementation of the road map, which cannot be done if the government continues to attack two-spirit, gender-diverse, and trans people in this province.

Centre Street Church Bearspaw Campus - Calgary, AB
by: @a.r.fritzarchitect @Mycschurch
