Albertans of Tumblr: It's May of 2023! We're having an election!
Are you registered to vote?
I'll put my cards on the table: As a disabled, low-income, LGBTQ+ Albertan, I'm begging you to vote New Democratic Party. If not NDP, the left-most candidate who has a viable shot to unseat the United Conservative Party in your riding.
Premier Danielle Smith is, of course, Wingnut Georg, who comes up with 10,000 completely demented policy ideas a day. But she's not entirely an outlier. The Conservatives were fucking over vulnerable Albertans for decades before she came along.
This election is important, because our famously conservative province has a very real chance of electing a party with democratic socialist policies. We did it before, and the pollsters are saying we have a very real chance of doing it again.
Election Day is: Monday May 29
Advance voting: Tuesday May 23 through Saturday May 27
Special Ballot (for people physically incapable of making it to the polls): Register Here
Voter ID: Several options available here

LGBTQ2S Rights
Member Arcand-Paul: Mr. Speaker, I rise to speak today wearing a beautiful ribbon skirt that was gifted to me to represent my communities. I’m wearing it today to take up space as a tastawiyiniw, a two-spirit person, an individual that possesses both the masculine and feminine energies, a people that were revered on these lands since time immemorial, before the arrival of settlers with the ideology that our people were sinful.
I do so in this House as a mark of defiance across from this government, which has threatened the existence of my relatives. I’m wearing this to remind them that as long as my colleagues and I are sitting here, we will always stand up and defend human rights in this province. I am wearing this ribbon skirt to remind this government that we are not going anywhere, that we belong in this province, and that we will not let them take away the human rights of our trans, gender-diverse, and two-spirit family members.
But this is not about me. This is about the trans youth that this government has targeted. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve heard from countless community members, trans folks, organizations, doctors, parents, athletes, coaches, professors, teachers, and experts in many other fields. They cannot believe their government has chosen to target vulnerable kids while there are so many areas that this government is failing in. Instead, they are seeing their government taking away freedoms of Albertans. The Premier is bullying queer youth for her own personal gain and, in so doing, is emboldening hate between Albertans.
In the United States Nex Benedict was murdered by bullies at their school in a state that had equivalent legislative attacks on the queer community as the Premier is attempting to do in Alberta. A trans person took their own life here because of this inflated political rhetoric in our province, and I worry, just like the parents of trans youth in this province, that we will have more deaths because of this government’s harmful rhetoric. I should not have to rise in this House to remind this government that my people deserve to live and deserve human rights. To the trans, gender-diverse, and two-spirit youth: we see you, we love you, you matter; we will keep working to build an Alberta that is safe for you to live in.

Kaycee Madu, Alberta's labour and immigration minister, ignited a firestorm Tuesday afternoon when he thanked "freedom convoys" for fighting against "tyrannical" federal COVID-19 restrictions that are soon to be loosened.
He added that Ottawa's vaccination rules regarding international travel were never "about science but about political control and power."

I am really worried about the direction this province is heading in regards to mis/disinformation, the rise of the alt-right and extremism. These opinions are not only wildly wrong but extremely dangerous.
This is a conspiracy theory. If you seriously believe a political party in Alberta has purposely set the province ablaze to gain votes in the upcoming election, you have been hoodwinked by grifters and conspiracy theorists.
Misinformation has been spreading online like literal wildfire, I highly recommend everyone brushes up on their reading comprehension, digital media literacy, and critical thinking skills. If someone online is suggesting a "simple" answer to a complex issue, such as out of control fires, you are having the wool pulled over your eyes.

Hey Hey Edmonton! Here I am! Part Scottish, Finnish and Aboriginal! I am going to be wearing my wig everywhere since I shaved off my hair.. (I feel bad for doing that.)
But hey, we all make mistakes. It’s just hair; and it will grow back! And when it does I’m going to get it dyed and get hair extensions!
What I would like for my body:
- A heart tattoo on my right butt cheek ❤️💋
- A nose ring, a belly button ring
- doves on my collar bones
- tramp stamp” ( a rose ) 🎀🌹
I walked into Boyle McCauley’s ‘Stadium Mini Mart’ and made fun of myself and the men got a real kick out of it! I think we’re going to be OK, sisters!

Mr. Dach: I rise to table five copies of the lyrics to a duet recently recorded by country artists Orville Peck and Willie Nelson entitled Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other. I encourage all members of the Legislature to listen to this anthem of solidarity.
Member Irwin: Love that.

Danielle Smith is scrambling to make her Alberta Sovereignty bill look less like garbage. We have to trust her that she didn't intend to give sweeping powers to a bunch of career politicians.
It's important to remember that Danielle Smith has zero idea what she's doing. Governing a province is a great deal different than throwing out absurd comments on Twitter or a talk radio show that people listen to in between shit posting memes on Facebook much to the disgust of relatives.
The goal of the neoliberals has always been to keep their boots rested on the backs of the rest of us. The risk of any government that works for the people must be avoided at all costs. Smith and her talking heads grossly overplayed their ability to rage farm public frustration into a power grab.
Justin Trudeau did the strategic thing by playing his cards close to his vest. Smith would have certainly campaigned on any response from the federal Liberals, as she's been placing her bets on rage farming disapproval towards JT and the Sussex Street Posse harder than the right wing media sought to undermine the Alberta NDP.
Danielle Smith has a long track record of not working well with others, all the way back to her school board work. Unfortunately, working well with others matters more when every decision you make profoundly affects everyone than it did in kindergarten. Alberta needs a Premier who actually learned the important stuff in kindergarten.
