#AWESOMENESS 👉 @shelbytueffers. Just another one of those girls who had her race canceled due to COVID. I had signed up for a trail 50k because I wanted to challenge myself and am someone who always feels better when i’m tapping into my potential (which usually just means a whole lot of type two fun). I hadn’t raced or tried a new distance in forever and I was missing it. When my race was canceled I had already done most of my training and I knew I needed to somehow still run the distance or I’d bear myself up over not finishing and quitting. However, nothing about running a 50k alone excited me, and I knew I needed to find a way to run the distance in a way that excited me. It didn’t end with a finish line and finishers medal, but it did end with cold watermelon, a full heart, and two badass inspiring friends. The day also included wild flowers, 31.65 miles of views, alpine lake swimming, a whole lot of trying to breathe at 9,000 ft of elevation and so many strangers cheering us on along the way. Pretty sure this ended up being the better way to check off the 50k box. Thank you @kamrinsorensen and @stephanie.white for being the best partners in crime. It wouldn’t have happened without friends who are just my kind of crazy. The Bighorn Rut, Wyoming by Glatz Nature Photography Each year, as heavy snow blankets the high elevations of the Beartooth Mountains and the Wind River Range in northwestern Wyoming, the stage is set for one of nature's great spectacles: the Bighorn Sheep rut! The snow forces the Bighorns down to lower elevations and the sagebrush-filled valleys, where they can more easily find and access food. The snow also signals the start of the rut - the period (usually lasting two-three weeks) when the Bighorn rams sort out the mating rights of each herd. This involves several stages. First, the rams gather into small groups and test each other's condition. Often this involves kicking potential competitors (usually in the crotch!). Then the larger, mature and experienced rams chase the smaller, weaker and younger rams away from the females (called "ewes"). At this point, the big boys battle it out with a consistent display of head banging in an extraordinary demonstration of speed, power and ferocity. This brief film highlights the picturesque scenery of this area, which is one of the most beautiful in North America, and documents the various stages of the big event: The Bighorn Rut. © Registered Glatz Nature Productions 2020.
