The fact that Essek storms off "in a huff" and is literally brought to tears when he sees Caleb mourning Molly...there's just so many interesting implications for shadowidomauk there.
It's the fact that Essek saw Caleb kiss Molly on the forehead the way he kissed him--saw Caleb repeat these familiar phrases in battle to Lucien that he once used to comfort Essek. Essek learning Caleb's love language, and seeing it reflected in how he treats Mollymauk.
It's Essek seeing Caleb at his lowest, at his most desperate and hopeless--how very wrong it feels to see him like this, how painful it is to watch him fall apart over losing Mollymauk. "Caleb Widogast, have you ever accepted defeat?"
Because of all things, it is Molly's death that leaves Caleb more brokenhearted than Essek's ever seen him, the only time he's ever truly admitted to knowing defeat--"Maybe today. For the first time." The way Caleb came all this way and tried so desperately to save him, and it still wasn't enough. He poured his whole heart and soul into that ritual, and it just wasn't enough.
Essek being moved by the Nein's own grief, choked up and crying for this person that he never even met. Insisting over and over, "It's not fair--it's not fair...We've just all come so far. It's not fair." And it's the moment that Caleb kisses Molly on the forehead and says his goodbyes that really breaks Essek's heart, the passion and gutting loss of Caleb's own grief that sends Essek storming off and fighting back tears.
Do you think...Essek ever tells Kingsley what happened that day? How hard Caleb tried to save him--how much it shattered him when Tealeaf was still lying dead in his arms? Do you think he ever told King about the forehead kiss and how tender Caleb was with him--how he must surely love him? Do you think Essek admits that even he was crushed when Tealeaf didn't wake, that he never knew him before, but still mourned him all the same?
Do you think he ever quietly tells Kingsley that he's happy he came back, how much it means to him--especially for Caleb's sake--
Do you think Kingsley ever kisses either of the wizards on the forehead and everything just. Kinda falls into place for Essek--

I’ve been curating this for a while but I figured I’d finally share it, here’s my Widojest musical theater playlist that gives me all the feels and I play on repeat until Critical Role comes back into my life.
1. “You Were Always a Better Dancer Than Me, Astrid” -Autumn Orange
Just a good one to start things off featuring a moment where we first got that glimpse into our smelly wizard boys feelings for a blue tiefling.
2. “The Color of Your Eyes” -Daddy Long Legs
If you haven’t heard of the musical Daddy Long Legs, DEFINITELY check it out. I have a lot of songs from the musical on here because I get SUCH Caleb and Jester vibes from the two main characters. In this song I imagine Jester is writing in her journal to the Traveler and telling him all about the “blue eyed” wizard she just met.
3. “The Man I’ll Never Be” -Daddy Long Legs
“If I tell you the truth at least, would I lose your esteemed affection. Would you hate me and curse my name? I'd only have myself to blame” Caleb has always been terrified of Jester finding out about the full extent of his past and the murder of his parents/man he used to be mostly because he would risk never having her see him the same way again.
4. “Charity” -Daddy Long Legs
With this song I constantly am reminded of the “I’m the transmutation wizard but you’re the one who changes people...” moment. I mean you can just hear it in the lyrics “How easier it is to give than to let yourself receive. For what you have given me came out of the blue. What you have done for me I never could do. Charity. Just who is helping who?”
5. “I’m A Beast (Reprise)” -Daddy Long Legs
If Jester ever does find out, I imagine our self deprecating wizard boy would say something along these lines.
6. “The Secret of Happiness” -Daddy Long Legs
Just imagine this song paired with the Widogast’s Unicorn Hamster Amber moment and it will give you all the feels. “I've discovered, The secret of happiness is, All the stars that shine....That her happiness is more precious than mine...”
7. “Popular” -Wicked
Added for obvious Laura Bailey C2E2 2018 reasons ; ) Jester is giving our stinky wizard boy a makeover.
8. “Waving Through A Window” -Dear Evan Hanson
Caleb closes himself off from the world and from other people because he’s so afraid of hurting them like he did his parent’s but ultimately he’s hurting himself. “Step out, step out of the sun. If you keep getting burned. Step out, step out of the sun. Because you've learned, because you've learned...”
9. “If I Could Tell Her” -Dear Evan Hanson
Caleb was one of the first members of the group to really see through Jester’s happy go lucky front and notice the feelings Jester keeps hidden deep down. Think especially the “I think it is an act. She is an amazing woman but talent is different then happiness” moment when Jester is dancing by herself. “And he wondered how you learned to dance. Like all the rest of the world isn't there But he kept it all inside his head. What he saw he left unsaid If I could tell her.”
10. “Suddenly Seymour” -Little Shop of Horrors
Caleb has always been there for her waiting in the wings and I just also think of Jester with the “daddy left early, mama was poor” line. (Though on the contrary, The Ruby of the Sea is doing VERY well ;)
11. “I Know It’s Today” -Shrek the Musical
This is mostly a Jester song, Jester spent years shut up in her room like a blue Rapunzel. That can do a lot to a person.
12. “In My Own Little Corner” -Cinderella the Musical
Also another Jester song, while being shut up in her room, Jester’s imagination can still roam free. Who knew that her imagination would create a god? ;)
13. “Pulled” -Addams Family
Imagine Caleb singing this one, at the start of the campaign he was much more closed off but Jester’s perkiness can really rub off on a person and bring out the jokester underneath. Caleb is making more jokes and smiling more when Jester’s around. Though losing those defenses can be scary, especially when you have so much to protect with a past like Caleb’s.
14. “Who I’d Be” -Shrek the Musical
When I hear this song I immediately think of the moment when the others ask Caleb what he would have done after the Academy if he hadn’t met Trent and he wistfully mentioned how maybe he would have been a teacher with a lot of books and things to teach. But he doesn’t think he deserves such happiness.
15. “I Think I Got You Beat” -Shrek the Musical
Think of early Jester and Caleb when they would argue about dirtiness or the differences in how they view money. Also keep in mind the hard pasts they both have had to overcome to get to where they are now and how they aren’t as different as they would think.
16. “Heaven’s Light” -Hunchback of Notre Dame
My poor boy Caleb is “uselessly in love” with Jester but he never believes that he deserves Jester’s light. “I knew I'd never know, That warm and loving glow Though I might wish with all my might, No face as hideous as my face, Was ever meant for Heaven's light..”
17. “Unworthy of Your Love” -Assassins
Kind of in the same vein of the previous song, Caleb doesn’t believe he deserves someone as perfect and wonderful as Jester. Also, Jester as Squeaky Fromme pining after a cult leader like the Traveler seems pretty fitting ; )
18. “Evermore” -Beauty and the Beast
“I'll never shake away the pain, I close my eyes but she's still there, I let her steal into my melancholy heart, It's more than I can bear”. Jester just has that effect on people. You can’t hide your heart forever Caleb.
19. “Being Alive” -Company
As Caleb starts opening up to the group more, he grows more confident and starts thinking maybe he does want people in his life. Maybe he does deserve love. Also, think of Yasha as the rest of the company urging him along like the classic “Do you love her?” scene.
20. “That’s How You Know” -Enchanted
Yasha and Nott being the unlikely matchmakers nudging Caleb along to open up more about his feelings always makes me smile, against Caleb’s classic pessimism.
21. “Lost in the Woods” -Frozen 2
Think Caleb and the group searching for Jester all that time after she was kidnapped. Maybe insert Frumpkin instead of Sven. ; )
22. “What Do You Know About Love?” -Frozen the Musical
Jester was cooped up for so long she has no idea what love is supposed to be besides what she reads about in her smut books. With this song, just think about the moment when Caleb and Jester were discussing Jester’s feelings for Fjord and what being in love is about.
23. “Inside Out” -Gentleman’s Guide to Love And Murder
Think the “Frumpkin is stored in my heart...then you must have a really big heart!” moment. Jester sees the good person within Caleb and his enormous heart. “An oyster shell itself is unassuming, But look inside, you'll find a pearl The man who otherwise is unpresuming, May share the same blood as an Earl.”
24. “Shall We Dance?” -King And I
The waltz scene. That’s all I gotta say.
25. “I Could Have Danced All Night” -My Fair Lady
Caleb could have danced forever with Jester. I was hoping they would have a reprise at the party but no such luck.
26. “I See The Light” -Tangled
Again, the Widogast Amber Lights moment gave me MAJOR floating lights in Tangled vibes and I was HERE FOR IT.
Anyhoo, thank y’all for going on this musical journey with me. Word on the street is Critical Role might be coming back soon (but I hope they take the time they need to be as safe as possible). Until then I will continue to eat these small Widojest crumbs and play this song on repeat.

Season Review: 13 Reasons Why - Season 4 (Netflix, 2020)
Tumblr media
Netflix’s dropped the final season of their controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why last week and, as expected, it quickly climbed to the number one spot and was trending. Albeit the trending topic was full of just as many people saying “don’t watch the show” as there were fans talking about the show but that’s too be expected.
Inspired by the teen best selling novel by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why was adapted into a television series by Brian Yorkey in 2017 and has since spanned four seasons despite controversy from critics, parents, and teenagers. The fourth and final season of the series follow the same group of Liberty High teenagers, now seniors, as they grabble with the aftermath of their decision to frame a murder on a fellow Liberty High student who was sent to prison for sexual assault and ultimately died in prison. Each of the core cast is dealing with the aftermath in different ways with Clay (Dylan Minnette) experiencing the most negative reaction due in part to his deteriorating mental health.
In true 13 Reasons Why fashion, the season deals with a variety of topics ranging from the ongoing drug use of students, their safety in school, mental health, and it even touches upon the very timely topic of police brutality and racial profiling. And of course, it had to pull one last controversial publicity stunt which left one of our beloved characters dead before graduation day.
I’ve already written about my overall thoughts on the characters outcomes but I felt the final season also warranted its own review. In addition to the usual categories, I’ve also includes a spot for my favorite character and favorite couple of the entire season since this is the final season. Least favorite character of the series will not be featured because I don’t feel the need to write anything more about Bryce. I’m also going to try to keep the character portions short so that I don’t repeat myself.
As always, spoilers are ahead.
Favorite Episode: 4×09 — “Prom”
Tumblr media
All I’ve ever wanted is for this group of teenagers to be happy and actually enjoy their youth instead of dealing with whatever shit was complicating their lives. Episode 9 finally gave that to us, if you ignore the last 3 minutes of the episode like I’m choosing to do.
This episode had some of my favorite scenes that left me crying tears of joy and had my heart swelling with pride. It was also the first time, in a long time, that we saw the entire group back together in Clay and Justin’s bedroom. I’ve always said this show is best when it’s characters are all united and share the screen together and that scene proved I was right. If only they would have supported each other from the beginning of this season instead of just at the end.
Episode 9 is also home to both Charlie and Alex’s coming out moments and they could not have been more perfect. I absolutely love that both of their families were accepting and didn’t even question their sons. Charlie’s scene with his dad literally had me laughing out loud when they were talking about Charlie’s obsession with Eli Manning. It’s such an innocent thing and yet it showcases that LGBT kids and teens are just like their heterosexual counterparts who have innocent crushes on celebrities and athletes. I also love that his dad basically said he knew but wanted Charlie to come to him when he was ready.
Alex’s coming out moment was equally as cute. I really loved the fact that his wasn’t a coming-out moment in the traditional sense because he didn’t sit his parents down and talk to them about his sexuality. Instead, he just shows up with Charlie who he introduces as his boyfriend. It was perfect and honestly, I think more shows and films should deal with coming-out stories that happen like this. I was once again laughing when Alex’s brother got all excited because he was dating the quarterback of the Liberty High football team. Plus, the heartfelt moment with both of his parents warmed my heart. All they’ve ever wanted for their son is to see him happy and healthy and they finally got that.
I loved Charlie’s promposals and how he kept trying to one-up them to get Alex to say yes. I’m wondering though if maybe he should have tried something more low-key and intimate since that seems to be more of Alex’s style. Either way, they were all cute and I’m glad Alex finally said yes. Also, I love that they finally realized that Jess didn’t need a boy on her arm to have a good time. Having her go with Ani was cute and felt a bit full circle since the only ever girlfriend she had was Hannah who she had a falling out with before her death. And I also love that Clay tagged along with Alex and Charlie to make sure Alex was comfortable. He’s always looking out. Honorable cute mentions also go to Caleb for finally getting Tony to participate in high school activities and Tyler for going with Estella and having the best time ever.
Of course, the prom scene as a whole was amazing (again, until the last 3 minutes which I will not be mentioning again…hopefully). Seeing these kids get to be teenagers warmed my heart and it was everything I ever wanted. I loved that the football team was behind Charlie and Alex winning Prom Kings. It really showed a growth in the team since they’d been homophobic and rapists in prior seasons but have finally started to mature and “be better” as Zach and later Charlie helped instill in them. I also love that Ani and Clay finally hashed out their weird relationship and that they were able to move on as friends.
I was so glad when Justin showed up at the prom. He deserved to have a great time and enjoy his dwindling senior year just like the rest of his friends. I love how they show the scene when Jess spots him in this cinematic and romantic way. Was it cheesy? Yes, but dammit these two deserve all the cheesiness after everything they’ve been through. I also love Jess’s line telling him to never love anything more than life. It was perfect and everything I wanted.
Oh, and Clay asking his mom to dance was equally as adorable.
The only thing I felt this episode needed (other than a different ending) was the inclusion of “The Night We Met.” That song is a staple of this series and it would have been nice to have it played at their final dance. Perhaps, they could have all come together on the dance floor like they did in season 2 for Clay.
Least Favorite Episode: 4×03 — “Valentine’s Day”
Tumblr media
To be honest, the whole first half of the season was a hot mess but I think my least favorite episode had to be the third episode. I literally almost stopped watching after it because it no longer felt like I was watching 13 Reasons Why.
I found it to be an interesting choice by the writers to write another episode centered around a dance when we were going to get a prom episode and have had multiple dance centric episodes in prior seasons. I think it would have been more interesting if they set the drama somewhere else. Then again, dances seem to be the only way to get all these characters in one place at the same time so I digress.
My biggest issue with this episode was the whole plot surrounding Clay and the mysterious phone calls. I felt like I was watching a cheap knock off of Scream every time Clay answered the phone and was tormented by the caller. Of all the dumb things this show has done, this was the dumbest and completely unnecessary. After all, Clay had been cleared from being a person-of-interest in Bryce’s murder before Ani’s confession that Monty was the one who did it. Therefor, the football teams motive for taking their anger and emotions for Monty out on Clay made zero sense. Not to mention, they did it in the most unoriginal way ever.
This episode also featured Winston and Alex getting closer and dating. Look, I believe most characters can change and be good people but Winston doesn’t seem to be one of those people. Granted, Alex didn’t know who he was or his involvement with Monty at the time but we did which made it hard for me to root for these two. Winston may have actually had feelings for Alex, but to me he was just using him to get information and that is totally not cool.
I also greatly disliked Clay and Ani in this episode. It’s clear that their relationship has run its course and Ani’s constant need to keep pushing Clay to be with her was dumb. Ani is such a smart character and yet she does the stupidest things. She definitely needed one of Jess’s woman empowerment speeches.
Also I absolutely hated Zach yelling at Justin and then Jess yelling at Justin — even if she was right to do so.
By far the worst thing about this episode had to be the ending sequence with Clay in the shower and then on the football field. Of course, the episode then ended with him walking into the gym with a red stained shirt holding a knife. Definitely not a good image for Clay but what really killed me is that everyone blamed him for brining a knife to the dance when Diego and his boys literally planted it for him to take! Once again 13 Reasons Why forgets its own plot for more drama.
Favorite Character This Season: Charlie St. George
Tumblr media
While Charlie might not be my all-time favorite character, he definitely earned the prize of being my favorite character this season.
Charlie was the one character this season who was actually there for everyone around him and wasn’t consumed with his own issues. In fact, Charlie is so selfless that he chose to get involved with all their drama last season when he didn’t need to but did anyway because he knew it was the right thing to do.
As for this season, well Charlie continued to out do himself. He helped Justin hold the football team accountable when they were being dicks. He made sure Jess was getting the team’s undivided attention during her speech. He tried to help Tony decide on what to do about Tyler’s gun pictures during the lockdown and he even calmed Alex down during one of his anxiety attacks. Not to mention, he researched Alex’s TBI so that he’d know what to expect and how to handle any issues that may arise from it. His helpfulness didn’t stop there. He also tried to be there for Clay and for Justin during the season. And he even went as far as tracking down Zach and forcing him to go see Justin in the hospital when he was dying.
If all that doesn’t prove that he’s the best character than I don’t know what will.
He also had the best coming-out moment and literally ruled the prom with Alex as his date.
So yeah, Charlie was the best.
Favorite Character Of The Series: Justin Foley
Tumblr media
Since this is the final season, I also wanted to speak about my favorite character of the entire show: Justin Foley. If you read my other post this should come as no surprise that Justin is my ride-or-die character.
Justin is my favorite character because he has one of the best character arcs of the entire series (if you ignore the final episode and is horrible fate). In the first season he was this angry and broken kid who was so distraught with guilt that he turned to the streets for some kind of relief and eventual revenge. Thankfully, Clay and Tony were there to save him and the Jenson’s were kind enough to offer him a home when he had no where else to turn.
Sure, Justin still struggled with his addiction but he tried and fought so damn hard to get better. Relapse is part of the recovery process and if you recall, most of the times Justin relapsed were do in part to major things happening in his life, like his biological mother’s overdose which lead to her death.
Despite all the things against him, Justin finally got help this season and was on the path to recovery. He was thriving in school, had a college acceptance letter in his hands, and was finally happy. All Justin ever wanted to do was live and he constantly tried to do that.
As you know from my character thoughts post, I was completely devastated when he died. It’s been a week and I’m still not over it. I honestly feel like I lost someone I knew in real life.
Despite his ill fitted and unnecessary ending, Justin Foley had the best character development of this group. He was the one character who deserved to live more than anything. In my head, he’s alive and thriving in college while having regular FaceTime dates with Jess.
Least Favorite Character This Season: Winston
Tumblr media
Avoiding the obvious answers like Bryce and Monty, who I hate with my entire being, I’ve decided that Winston is my least favorite character of season 4.
I mentioned this in my other post but I’m going to say it again, Winston is nothing more than a knock-off Clay who doesn’t have half the heart that Clay Jenson has.
I can’t get behind Winston because his entire character is rooted in being a rapist apologist because he “loved” Monty. Obviously, I don’t think Winston is a terrible person but I do think something is wrong with him since he is able to have feelings for Monty despite knowing all the terrible and hurtful things he did to people. I mean Mrs. Walker couldn’t look her own son in the eyes after learning everything he did and you’re telling me that Monty can turn a blind eye to it because he’s in love. I call bullshit.
I didn’t feel like Winston’s actions this season were rooted in good like Clay’s were. I think every relationship he formed with the core group was made because he wanted to get information out of them.
The only good thing Winston did was not turn Alex in for killing Bryce. In my opinion, though, that doesn’t redeem him for spending the entire season trying to seek revenge for Monty.
Favorite Couple This Season: Alex and Charlie
Tumblr media
Let’s be honest, 13 Reasons Why doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to relationships. Even the most iconic and shippable couples on the show are problematic. Which is why I was so shocked and proud when the writers finally decided to show a happy and healthy relationship, between two boys to top it all off!
While I’ll admit, I had been hoping that Alex would end up with Zach this season I am 110% sold that he was destined to be with Charlie. As I’ve said before and in this very post, Charlie is so caring and attentive to Alex that you can tell his feelings are completely authentic and he has no ulterior motive for wanting/choosing to be with Alex.
In fact, if you watch the third season carefully, you’ll notice that Charlie had taken an interest in Alex during that season. It just wasn’t as prominent on the screen. Perhaps, that’s part of the reason Charlie decided to get involved with this group. And once he found out Alex was the one who needed saving he jumped into action to plant Bryce’s tape on Monty. But that might be my brain stretching.
Regardless, Charlie and Alex are the perfect teenage couple and the by far the healthiest couple of this entire show. They’re there for each other, they celebrate each other’s victories (even if Alex doesn’t always understand them) and their love is unconditional.
These two may be Prom Kings but they’re also Kings of healthy relationships.
Favorite Couple Of The Series: Justin and Jess
Tumblr media
Even though Alex and Charlie are the healthiest couple and by far my favorite this season, I can’t help but continue to ship Jess and Justin.
Now listen, these two are not a couple that should be idolized. They’re extremely toxic at times and they are way too dependent on each other. Not to mention, the origins of their relationship are complex and for some, immensely problematic. And yet, here I am stanning this couple because they’re so made for each other.
Part of what makes Justin and Jess work is that they understand each other, even when they don’t always want to. They both have been in each others shows. They both know what it’s like to be at rock bottom and to climb out on top. Beyond that, they’re (usually) always there for each other or at least are cheering each other on in some way.
Was Jess wrong this season to lash out as Justin when he told her he needed to focus on herself? Absolutely. But Justin was also in the wrong a few seasons ago when he didn’t fight to help Jess enough. Regardless of their issues and arguments, these two are always finding their way back to each other.
I loved that Justin went to Jess’s aide during the lockdown. Sure, it took Diego being an ass to get him there but I’m pretty sure he would have went regardless. Frankly I’m convinced that Justin was texting Jess during the lockdown before he even went down to see her. And, despite everything going on, in that moment they felt safe, because they were together.
I love that Justin, even though he was jealous of Diego, never really made it an issue — or at least, a major issue. When Zach is trying to rile him up at the Valentine’s Day dance Justin reminds him that Jess doesn’t belong to him. It’s the smallest thing but it a sign that he loves and respects Jess enough to let her be on her own. In fact, I’d argue that the real issue he has with Jess seeing Diego is that Diego is a complete dick to Clay and is obsessed with finding out the truth about Monty.
I love that Jess is (almost) always there for Justin. Should she have pulled him out of the alleyway when she finds him doing drugs again? Absolutely, but I think her choosing to walk away was an extremely hard decision for her to make. And I’m glad their story didn’t end there. I absolutely loved Jess’s speech to Justin at the prom. And the scene of them in the hospital completely wrecked me. Hearing Jess say that Justin taught her to love when he was still convinced he ruined her life was seriously the most heartbreaking thing ever.
As I said, I’m pretending these two are living a happy and healthy life because that’s what they deserve.
Complaints:
Tumblr media
13 Reasons Why is strongest when the cast is together and supporting each other. Unfortunately this season everything felt disjointed, especially these characters relationships with each other. Alex and Jess had barely any scenes together despite committing a murder together. Zach was messy the entire season and acting very out of character. And no one cared enough to help him. Alex did try but it didn’t feel like enough, or maybe Zach was just too stubborn to accept it. The golden trio (Clay, Justin, and Jess) had little to no scenes until the end which hurt me to my core. I felt like Justin was missing from the first half of the season and then when he did get more time on screen he was literally dying. Clay and Tony barely had any scenes together and seemed annoyed with each other. Tyler was basically on his own this season – at least he had Estella. I guess I had higher hopes that our core group would be stronger than ever but that simply wasn’t the case and I’m upset about it.
My other major problem this season was the show’s need to try to be a psychological thriller. I fully support them wanting to show Clay’s deteriorating mental state and I found it interesting that they chose to go the disassociating route but I am not a fan of how they did it. I felt like the writers forgot the genre of their show. As I mentioned above, I also hated the football team using their phones to torment Clay. It was stupid and unoriginal.
Another issue I had this season was the fact that both Ani and Zach out Alex to different people. In Ani’s case she outed Alex to Clay by confessing that she caught him making out with Winston in the hallway during the dance. As for Zach, he outed Alex to almost all of their friends during the senior camping trip after learning that Alex broke up with Winston. While neither of them outed Alex with malicious intent, it was still wrong. I would have liked to see Alex confront them about it, at some point.
I absolutely hated and was disgusted at the fact the show tried to portray both Clay and Zach as people who would rape unconscious women who were unable to consent. I will never forgive the writers for that. It literally served no purpose and completely went again both of their characters.
I also found it extremely random and unneccesary that Clay hooks up with Valerie, Sheriff Diaz’s daughter, at that party. I don’t care that he hooked up with someone but because it was the daughter of the Sheriff I wanted that to be a bigger moment. I was waiting and expecting Sheriff Diaz to find out and flip out on Clay but that never happened. As it stands now, the only purpose that scene had was to inform us that Sheriff Diaz did have a family which would make his speech to Alex’s dad at the end of the season make sense.
I also wasn’t a fan of Monty and Bryce’s presence this season. Both of them already got their moments in the spotlight we didn’t need to see them again. They were monsters who don’t deserve any sort of redemption or yet another attempt of a redemption arc. I also found it extremely peculiar that Clay was the one that was seeing them. As I’ve said before, Clay wasn’t the one who came up with the idea to frame Monty so I wasn’t totally sure why he felt so guilty. I also hated that they gave Jess another scene with ghost Bryce at the end instead of having her see ghost Justin. If anyone deserved to be in that final scene where they’re burying Hannah’s tapes it was Justin. After all, he’s where the story began.
Speaking of the final scene, I felt it odd that they decided to bring Courtney and Ryan back. If they were going to reunite the entire tape crew where were Marcus and Sheri? Even though they weren’t prominent in the episode I felt their screen time could have been given to one of the other core characters instead.
Another minor thing, I missed the smooth transitions in and out of scenes that 13 Reasons Why always seemed to nail. I know they were mainly used when the story was switching from past and present but I truly missed them this season. Everything felt harsh and jagged and I wasn’t a fan.
Lastly, and this one is going to be obvious. I hated that they killed Justin. There was no reason for his death. There was no hint that he was the one who was going to die. It was unnecessary and a last ditch attempt to be controversial and shocking. I’m not over it and I’ll never be over it.
Praise:
Tumblr media
Most of the things I’m going to write here I’ve said elsewhere so I apologize for any repetition.
As I said above, one of my favorite things about this season was Alex and Charlie’s coming out scenes. Something I have yet to mention though, is that I love how Alex turned to Tony when he was still in the midst of questioning his sexuality. It was a really sweet moment and it showcased Tony and Alex’s friendship. I also love that Tony answered the question without questing Alex on why he was asking. Tony could have asked Alex if he was questioning his sexual identity or something else but he chose not to because it’s not his place.
Speaking of Tony, I adored the scene with his father when Caleb told him about Tony’s college opportunity. Tony was so adamant on turning it down because he wanted to keep the auto shop going and to hear his father tell him that Tony is his dream was heartwarming. I think we all knew that his father just wants what is best for Tony but to hear him say it was important.
I did like the scene where the tape crew was reunited. It felt very full circle but I think they should have burned the tapes instead of burying them. I swear to god, if in 10 years this show gets a reboot because someone finds the tapes I’m going to die. I was a bit confused though since it didn’t appear that all the tapes were in the box. And I still think Justin should have been a part of it in some way. After all, he was the start of the tapes. Bryce may have brought them all together in a twisted way, but without Justin they wouldn’t have existed either.
Everything considered, I’m glad we did get to see Jess and Justin together in the end. To me they are endgame — even though Diego tries to get Jess to date him right after Justin’s death. I’ll cherish the prom scene and even the scenes in the hospital forever.
Also regarding Justin’s fate, I loved his final scene with Clay. The series spends so much time trying to get us to believe that Justin found a brother in Bryce, but I never bought it. Justin’s only brother was Clay and that essay proved that. It was so heartfelt and sad and I loved it. I also love that Clay admits to Justin that he doesn’t know how to go on without him but Justin assures him that he does.
I also did like the ending scene with Clay and Tony, even though in my perfect world it was Clay and Justin driving off to college together. It was a nice full circle moment. Although, I will admit my anxiety was through the roof because I seriously thought they were going to get into an accident. After all, it is 13 Reasons Why.
Lastly, I want to discuss the final scene at the police station between Alex’s dad and Sheriff Diaz. I spent a lot of this season and last season hating Sheriff Diaz but he certainly redeemed himself in that moment. There’s no doubt in my mind that he realized that Alex was the one who killed Bryce. And yet, he understood that Alex is a good kid who doesn’t deserve to be in jail. He understood that Bryce and Monty were both monsters. He knew that if the truth got out Alex’s dad would fall apart. His speech about putting family before his job was important and impactful.
As I’ve said, of all the shitty things this show has done the one thing they actually got right was letting Alex walk free. I never would have forgiven them if they had sent Alex to jail. After all, he’s not a monster he’s the hero of the story.
                                                         * * *
I still have mixed feelings about the final season and I think I will for the rest of time. Had they not have killed Justin I feel like I would have felt a lot better about the conclusion of the show. But if 13 Reasons Why has taught me anything its that life is not fair and that we cannot let tragedy dictate our entire lives. We must live (and continue watching questionable television shows).
You can stream the final season of 13 Reasons Why on Netflix.

Down to Earth With Tyler Blackburn
The star of the CW's 'Roswell' reboot isn't a poster child of anything but his own path
Written by Ryan Gajewski

Published onJune 11, 2019
I’ve never met Tyler Blackburn before—except that I have. Maybe it would be more accurate to say I’ve met versions of Tyler Blackburn. I’ve spent time with the actor on multiple occasions while covering his TV series Pretty Little Liars, the soapy teen-centered murder mystery that regularly generated more than a million tweets throughout its seven-season run. Just two weeks ago I reconnected with him in a lush meadow of flowering mustard outside Angeles National Forest, the site of his PLAYBOY photo shoot. But the Tyler Blackburn I’m meeting today at his home in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles is in many ways an entirely different man.
When he greets me at the front door, Blackburn is relaxed, barefoot and still wearing what appears to be bed head. His disposition is unmistakably freer—lighter—than it’s been during our previous encounters. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised by this. Six days earlier the 32-year-old actor came out publicly as bisexual in an online interview with The Advocate. The announcement is clearly at the forefront of his mind as we sit down at his dining room table.
Almost immediately he starts to gush about the positive, and at times overwhelming, feedback he has received over the past few days. Within minutes he’s in tears. He tries to lighten the mood with a self-effacing quip, but now I’m in tears too. Then he tells me he can’t remember my question.
I haven’t even asked one yet, I reply.
“It just makes me feel, Wow, the world’s a little bit safer than I thought it was,” Blackburn says.
The most affecting response he’s received thus far has been from his father, whom Blackburn didn’t meet until he was five years old. Although he avoids offering any more details about that early chapter, he says, “Feeling like I’m a little bit different always made me wonder if he likes me, approves of me, loves me. He called, and it was just every single thing you would want to hear from your dad: ‘That was a bold move. I’m so proud of you.’ It was wild.”
Blackburn can’t pinpoint the exact moment he knew he was bisexual but says he was curious from the age of 16. It wasn’t until two years ago, though, that he decided to approach his publicity team about coming out publicly. At that point, Pretty Little Liarshad wrapped, and the actor was without a job. So Blackburn and his team agreed they needed to hold off on making an announcement until his career was stable again. The lack of resolution weighed on him.
“A year ago I was in a very bad place,” he says, adding that he has struggled with depression and anxiety. “I didn’t know what my career was going to be or where it was going. My personal life—my relationship with myself—was in a really bad place.”
His casting on the CW’s Roswell, New Mexico, adapted from the same Melinda Metz book series as the WB’s 1999 cult favorite Roswell, seems to have come at the right time. Blackburn portrays Alex, a gay Army veteran whose relationship with Michael, a bisexual alien, has attracted legions of “Malex” devotees since the show’s January debut. Roswell, New Mexico has already been renewed for a second season—a feat for any series in this era of streaming, let alone one involving gay exophilia.
Playing a character whose queerness has been so widely embraced by fans no doubt nudged Blackburn closer to revealing his truth for the first time since becoming an actor 15 years ago. (As he told The Advocate, “I’m so tired of caring so much. I just want to…feel okay with experiencing love and experiencing self-love.”) Still, he was somewhat reluctant. His hesitation was rooted in the fact that he wouldn’t be able to control what came next: the social pressures that often come with being one of the first—in his case, one of the first openly bisexual male actors to lead a prime-time television series.
“If you stand for this thing, and you say it publicly, there’s suddenly the expectation of ‘Now your job is this,’ ” he says. “Even if someone’s like, ‘Now you’re going to go be the spokesperson’—well, no. If I don’t want to, I don’t want to. And that doesn’t mean I’m a half-assed queer.”
Full disclosure: I previously wrote for a Pretty Little Liars fan site. In 2012 I published a listicle that ranked the show’s hottest male characters. Blackburn cracks up when I tell him this and wants to know whether he bested Ian Harding, his former co-star. After I inform him that his character (hacker with a heart of gold Caleb Rivers) finished second behind Harding’s (Ezra Fitz, a student-dating teacher) I promise to organize a recount. The always-modest Blackburn concedes that Harding is the rightful winner. (If anyone ever compiles a BuzzFeed article titled “Most Embarrassing Moments for Former Bloggers,” I’ll be offended if I’m not in the mix.)
Blackburn makes it clear that he has not always been comfortable with his status as a teen heartthrob. Knowing he was queer made it “hard to embrace it and enjoy it.” Growing up, he was bullied for being perceived as effeminate and was frequently subjected to slurs and homophobic jokes. He describes himself as a late bloomer who took longer than usual to shed his baby fat. He didn’t have many friends, nor did he date much in high school.
A lifelong fan of musical theater and the performing arts, Blackburn signed with a Hollywood management company at the age of 17. His team at the time warned him that projecting femininity would hinder his success. An especially painful moment came after he’d auditioned for a role as a soldier and the producers wrote back that Blackburn had seemed “a little gay.”
“Those two managers were so twisted in their advice to me,” Blackburn says. “They just said, ‘We don’t care if you are, but no one can know. You can’t walk into these rooms and seem gay. It’s not gonna work.’ I remember the shame, because I’ve been dealing with the feeling that I’m not a normal boy for my entire life.”
After landing a recurring role on Days of Our Lives in 2010, Blackburn scored his big break when he appeared midway through the first season of Pretty Little Liars. “I was in Tyler’s first scene, so I got to be one of the first to work with him,” Shay Mitchell, who starred opposite Blackburn, tells PLAYBOY. “Right away, I knew he was special. Since the day I met him, Tyler always struck me as very authentic and very true to himself.”
Fans instantly adored his on-screen love affair with Hanna Marin, played by Ashley Benson. The pair became known as “Haleb,” and Blackburn went on to win three Teen Choice Awards—surfboard trophies that solidify one’s status as a teen idol—in categories including Choice TV: Chemistry.
According to Blackburn, during the show’s seven years on the air, he and Benson bonded over their mutual distaste for the tabloid stardom that comes with headlining a TV phenomenon lapped up by teens. Today he fondly reflects on their on-camera chemistry. “It felt good,” he says. “It felt real.”
Of course, rumors swirled that the pair’s romance was actually quite real. “We never officially dated,” he tells me. “In navigating our relationship—as co-workers but also as friends—sometimes the lines blurred a little. We had periods when we felt more for each other, but ultimately we’re good buds. For the most part, those rumors made us laugh. But then sometimes we’d be like, ‘Did someone see us hugging the other night?’ She was a huge part of a huge change in my life, so I’ll always hold her dear.”
Blackburn also shares a unique connection with Mitchell outside their friendship. Similar to what Blackburn is now experiencing with Roswell, Mitchell was embraced by the LGBTQ community for playing a lesbian character, Emily Fields, whose same-sex romances on Pretty Little Liars were among the first on ABC Family (the former name of the Freeform network).
Over the years, Blackburn had come out to select members of the Pretty Little Liars cast and crew, including creator I. Marlene King. But as the show approached its swan song, he started to recognize how hiding a part of himself was negatively affecting his life. He entered his first serious relationship with a man while filming the show’s final season. Not knowing how to tell co-workers—or whether to, say, invite his boyfriend to an afterparty—caused him to “go into a little bit of a shell” on the set.
“My boyfriend was hanging out with me at a Pretty Little Liars convention, and some of the fans were like, ‘Are you Tyler’s brother?’ ” Blackburn says. “He was very patient, but then afterward he was like, ‘That kind of hurt me.’ It was a big part of why we didn’t work out, just because he was at a different place than I was. Unfortunately, we don’t really talk anymore, but if he reads this, I hope he knows that he helped me so much in so many ways.” At that, Blackburn tearfully excuses himself and takes a private moment to regain his composure.
“I never remember a time when I didn’t enjoy being with him,” says Harding, Blackburn’s former co-star. He says he saw the actor “start to become the person he is now when we worked together” but believes Blackburn needed to first come to terms with the idea that he could become “the face” of bisexuality. “Tyler’s discovering a way to bring real meaning with his presence in the world,” Harding says, “as an actor and as a whole human.”
Once the teenage Blackburn realized he was attracted to guys, he began “experimenting” with men while taking care not to become too emotionally attached. “I just didn’t feel I had the inner strength or the certainty that it was okay,” he says. It wasn’t until a decade later, at the age of 26, that he began to “actively embrace my bisexuality and start dating men, or at least open myself up to the idea.” He says he’s been in love with two women and had great relationships with both, but he “just knew that wasn’t the whole story.”
He was able to enjoy being single in his 20s in part because he wasn’t confident enough in his identity to commit to any one person in a relationship. “I had to really be patient with myself—and more so with men,” he says. “Certain things are much easier with women, just anatomically, and there’s a freedom in that.” He came out of that period with an appreciation for romance and intimacy. Sex without an emotional component, he discovered, didn’t have much appeal.
“As I got older, I realized good sex is when you really have something between the two of you,” says Blackburn, who’s now dating an “amazing” guy. “It’s not just a body. The more I’ve realized that, the more able I am to be settled in my sexuality. I’m freer in my sexuality now. I’m very sexual; it’s a beautiful aspect of life.”
Blackburn has, however, felt resistance from the LGBTQ community, particularly when bisexual women have questioned his orientation. “Once I decided to date men, I was like, Please just let me be gay and be okay with that, because it would be a lot fucking easier. At times, bisexuality feels like a big gray zone,” he says. (For example, Blackburn knows his sexuality may complicate how he becomes a father.) “I’ve had to check myself and say, I know how I felt when I was in love with women and when I slept with women. That was true and real. Don’t discredit that, because you’re feeding into what other people think about bisexuality.”
He clearly isn't the first rising star who's had to deal with outside opinions of how to handle his Hollywood coming-out. I spoke to Brianna Hildebrand just before the release of 2018's smash hit Deadpool 2, and she explained that she had previously met with publicists who had offered to keep her sexuality under wraps, even though the actress herself had never suggested this. Meanwhile, ahead of the launch of last fall's Fantastic Beasts sequel, Ezra Miller told methat he's "been in audition situations where sexuality was totally being leveraged."
Fortunately for Blackburn, his recent experiences with colleagues have largely been supportive ones. He came out to Roswell, New Mexico showrunner Carina Adly Mackenzie when he first arrived in N.M. to shoot the pilot but after he had earned the role of Alex, which for him was the ideal sequence. "I think he takes the responsibility of being queer in the public eye very seriously, and waiting to come out was just about waiting until he was ready to share a private matter—not about being dishonest to his fans," Mackenzie tells PLAYBOY. "I have always known how important Alex is to Tyler, and I know that Tyler trusts me to do right by him, ultimately, and that’s really special."
Blackburn finds it funny that he’s known for young-skewing TV shows; the question is, What might define him next? He’s grateful for his career, but he grew up wanting to make edgy dramas like the young Leonardo DiCaprio. He also cites an admiration for Miller, the queer actor who plays the Flash. “I most definitely want to be a fucking superhero one day,” Blackburn says a bit wistfully.
His path to cape wearing does look more tenable. The day before his Advocateinterview was posted, he booked a lead role in a fact-based disaster-survival film opposite Josh Duhamel. Blackburn jokes that his movie career was previously nonexistent, though his résumé features such thoughtful indie fare as 2017’s vignette-driven Hello Again. There, he plays a love interest to T.R. Knight, who tells PLAYBOY that Blackburn “embraces the challenge to stretch and not choose the easy path.”
For now, Blackburn’s path appears to be just where he needs it to be. “I may never want to be a spokesperson in a huge way, but honestly, being truthful and authentic sets a great example,” he says. “To continue on a path of fulfillment and happiness is going to make people feel like they too can have that and it doesn’t need to be some spectacle.” As it turns out, he may already be a superhero.

If you could change (or rather fix) the background and/or paternity of any five characters, who would they be?
This is tough, currently Griffin because he is sort of just floating around with no real ties - I would had made him Anna’s somehow, or introduce some siblings or extended family for him.
What five storylines would you rewrite?  And how?
The Everyday Heroes storyline, that storyline was awful and OOC for Sam, how previously lived a life of crime and who was dating a mob enforcer at the time. Being on TV and in the public eye made no sense for her. It was just a way to break down JaSam more for Liason. Like even when it looked to be building up to something, with the mark turning out the be abusive - it was all done wrong because if I remember correctly, he only got abusive when it was revealed that Sam was conning him. As bad as it sounds, he had a legit, arguably provoked reason. It’s still bad, but it didn’t make Sam sympathetic and the abuse was very brushed over in favour of Jason’s storyline and breaking them up. I was have changed it so her “husband” has abused her once married, but before it was revealed she was conning him. If they insisted on delving into Sam’s past as a con artist.
Three most annoying retcons in General Hospital history?
1) SamTrick. I’m sorry, I’m only going to say this now because I’ve been complaining about it for months and have appointed myself as leader of the SamTrick defence squad. But currently I hate how SamTrick is completely retconned by the writers, Robin only ever brings up Sabrina. And I hate how it’s being retconned to prop Dream up, she left Patrick because she thought Jason was alive and Drew was “Jason” - they got together in hopes of developing feelings because Sam thought Drew was “Jason” and “Jason” thought Sam was his wife and he owed it to her to try.
2) Another one is Jason’s commitment to the mob, currently they are acting like Jason’s number 1 priority is CarSon. When before 2012, he was able to separate Mob life to his private life with Sam.
3) Anything where CarSon do bad shit, then act all sanctimonious to other people, - like recently with the Nelle/Carly stuff or how Ava is being kept from Avery when Sonny isn’t even a good option, has killed people (and gets Jason’s to do it) and most of the time Avery is hidden in the corner or is with Michael and Kiki.
Favorite incarnations of characters who have been played by multiple actors?
Tyler Christopher, which is easy since Tyler is Nikolas.
Natalia Livingston, I never really saw Amber Tamblyn as Emily so that’s easy.
Steve Burton as Jason Morgan, and this is nothing against Billy, I just think he looks to soft to be believable as a tough, mob enforcer. Whereas, Steve kind of has a natural, rugged, rough around the edges look for him. Maybe it’s because of all those years of Billy in The Young and the Restless made it tough.
With Carly its tough, I feel like with Tamara’s Carly, the CarSon dynamic felt more like a mob relationship, whereas with Laura’s CarSon feels more on equal dynamic, but Laura’s Carly makes Carly seem more possessive and obsessive and needy over people at time. But I liked how independent she became, whereas I didn’t really get that with Tamara’s Carly - but I preferred Tamara’s relationship with Michael compared to Laura’s Carly.
Billy Warlock for AJ Quartermaine - this is nothing against Sean Kanan, because I never saw his initial stint, but I felt in his second stint there was a big unexplained discourse with the sudden change - kind of like what they are doing with Franco (but less worse) but also I felt like they weren’t giving Sean the right material for AJ and it’s an injust that he never knew about Jason and that he’s supposedly ok with Sonny killing him.
Five character deaths that destroyed you?
Emily, I don’t see what it did, expect butcher the Quartermaines and for shock value during the Sweeps.
AJ, but not for the same reason as Emily, this was more about the injustice done to his character.
Lila McCall - that’s down to Kelly and Steve’s performance, I did not expect to legitimately cry.
Danny McCall - He was so innocent and pure and at the time, the last of Sam’s family. He didn’t deserve to die - I would have liked to have had to full time character that is disabled or mentally challenged and have the relationship between the career and the person - without having to send them away or it defining them.
Georgie Jones - though I understand the actress quit due to lack of storylines, I think it’s a shame that writers didn't give her the material she deserves, especially since I think at the time, that age group was kind of small anyway.
If you could bring back any characters, which ones would they be?  And why?
Danny McCall, for reasons above.
Lila McCall - I flip back on this, this is a huge what if scenario. I’d like to have seen Jason and Sam raise her together. Though Sonny would ruin it, probably randomly decides he’s her dad every 5 years.
Emily Quartermaine - because it’s Emily Quartermaine.
AJ and Alan Quartermaine, for vintage Quartermaine goodness, plus Drew deserves this.
Lorenzo Alcazar - Which is probably an unpopular one, but I liked him and Ted King, had legit reasons to quit since the writers made him all about Sonny, but Sonny didn’t actually do anything to him, it was other people like Alexis etc.
Patrick Drake - SamTrick deserves to be remembered, he will always be an iconic GH Doc, move out the way Griffin. Plus I’d like to see SamTrick continue to be platonic best friends after they split. Sam needs her own friends, outside of Jason’s Carly, Spinelli, even though they befriended him at the same time was more about Jason, the writers forget about Saxie half the time. Plus Noah with Danny or Noah with Scout would be cute.
What storylines would you like to see General Hospital tackle?
Surrogacy, again - but not like what they did with Maxie/Lulu/Dante.
A couple having a child born with Down Syndrome or some disability - and have it not be fixed by some miracle cure.
I lowkey want a Cult storyline. Australian soaps like Home and Away love a Cult storyline (It’s hippie style not Scientology style).
Any community style storylines - but not have Sonny and Jason come out looking as heroes. Not villains either but it use to be quite bad that they were legit like Superheroes.
Just more storylines that break the mould of a US Soap.
If you watched any other ABC soaps (All My Children, One Life to Live, Port Charles, Ryan’s Hope, Loving, The City and I’m including SoapNet’s General Hospital: Night Shift), which characters (living at the time of the soap’s demise) would you bring to GH for a visit/story since they share the same universe?
I haven’t watched any of the old ABC Soaps, but I know my fair share about it and seen bits and bobs.
From One Life To Live, I think I’d bring Starr and Cole with Hope, but none of that storyline when they arrived. I think it was a mess what was done with the characters that hoped over to GH from OLTL and there was no true resolution to it. Maybe Jess with her split personalities to spice things up. Have her be predominantly know to GH residents by one of her alternate personalities.
From All My Children, I kind of dug Zendall from their clips, and I think their ending was a mess because only one returned to the Online Soap, but I would at least bring Kendall over to GH to kind of explain more on their split and have a life away if necessarily, without feeling out of place. I’d bring Babe back from the dead and bring her and JR over to rival CarSon in a way (in styles of relationship, not mob life).
I don’t see how Port Charles characters can properly be brought over considering how much the show veered off into the Supernatural. I lowkey would have liked to see Livvie and Caleb more, but not in GH.
I’m going to tag @gemleilou. I don’t think you have done this?

Thank you Vert Shock!
My vertical has exploded and I am dunking consistently now!
Vert Shock is one of the best programs out there and I want to thank Adam for helping me achieve my dream of dunking.
Here’s a vid about my experience with the porgram…
Maybe you’ve heard of Justin ‘Jus Fly’ Darlington…
His dunks are casually featured in Slam Magazine and Bleacher Report.
He was on TNT’s hit show The Dunk King.
And I’m happy to call a him a good friend of mine.
Like I said, he currently holds the title as the World’s #1 HIGHEST Dunker.
Here’s a picture of him accepting the first-place trophy at the Nike World Dunk Contest alongside LeBron and Anthony Davis.
Even though he may be considered the world’s top dunker, he wasn’t always flying around the world just to showcase his dunks…
Long story short, he and I grew up together in Canada.
And after using and mastering the 3 simple steps in VERT SHOCK, which you’ll learn too in a moment, he has taken his dunks to a whole new level.
Tumblr media
And let me be clear…
I’d be a complete liar if I promised you’re going to jump 50 inches…
That’s ridiculous, Justin is an absolute freak of nature…
But, I will promise you one thing…
If you follow this done-for-you roadmap…
Consisting of just a few simple workouts each week…
You can throw down your very first slam in less than 8 weeks.
I promise you that.
Like I said, it is the best feeling in the world.
And today I’m going to share with you the roadmap to the dunk mecca…
It’s a new 60-day ELITE vertical trainer, which I call VERT SHOCK.
And if you’re willing to stick with me for just a few minutes, I’m going to tell you everything you need to know.
Including exactly WHAT VERT SHOCK is…
WHY this training regimen works a group of leg muscles that you likely never hear about…
WHO has already thrown down massive dunks by following this method.
And most importantly HOW you can use this method to dunk in less than 8 weeks.
But first let me ask you something…
Before I go any further…
I really want you to think about it.
What would your life be like if you could throw down high flying dunks with ease… anytime you wanted?
Would you finally get that starting spot on your team?
Maybe you’d be the star who always gets the rock when the game’s on the line…
Imagine your whole school… maybe whole town… watching you throw down the MASSIVE dunks in games.
Imagine getting tagged in videos all over Instagram and Facebook…
Imagine catching the attention of college scouts nationwide…
Tumblr media
That’s what happened to me when I used this system for myself.  (And I’ll tell you all about that in a minute.)
But first let me just say…
When you can dunk consistently it feels like almost anything’s possible.
And I can guarantee you NONE of this will ever happen:
NO MORE stretching your shoulders out of their sockets just to swipe the net
NO MORE being afraid to attack the rim in games and practices
NO MORE feeling unconfident when you step foot on the court
NO MORE whack tutorials and funky exercises trying to increase your vert
And last but not least…
NO MORE sitting on the bench when you DESERVE to be out on the court dunking on people

Hey Adam,
Program is going great!!
Just to give you a little background on me, I am 16 and only 5’7″. I already do have an impress vertical for my height, I can get the bottom of the box. But I wanted to increase it, so after I did the first pre shock phase day 1. I decided to see how much I my vertical increased.
Already I just barely touched the rim!! I am very impressed with this program, you really are a true hero!! Here is the pic of me touching it! Thank you so much for developing it this program it will really change my basketball career!
Tumblr media
Thank you for making this awesome system that you made. I started the program with a 28 inch vertical. I am on Week 5 and I now have a 34 inch vertical. I went from barely dunking to doing tomahawk dunks. This system is great.
Thanks, Wyatt House
Adam,
First, I’m going to start by saying I was a lil skeptical of the program. But after nearly 2 hours sitting in traffic, I decided to give it a try!
After starting Vert Shock let me tell you – the results are amazing. For a player who didn’t even average 1 minute of playing time in high school your program helped me make a professional roster!
Here’s a pic of me jumping over the ball rack throwing it down after doing Vert Shock.
Thanks for a awesome program.

I’m a junior in high school who just last season could barely dunk. I sat on the bench all last year and was only on the team because I was tall. I had only ever dunked once in my entire life.
Then I did Vert Shock and now I average a couple dunks a game and even dunk on defenders. I’m also a starter on the team and have won multiple dunk competitions!
This year our team went on to win the Utah state championship. I had one dunk in the quarter finals, 2 dunks in the semi finals, and a career high of 4 dunks in the state championship game!!!
I can’t thank you enough for Vert Shock!
Tumblr media
So what do you think?
Would you be willing to take the next 8 minutes to learn about the PROVEN jump system that could change your game, and ultimately your life, forever?
Please think about this carefully.
Because if you’re just someone that likes the IDEA of dunking…
But never actually wants to throw down a slam…
Do us both a favor and click the ‘X’ and leave this page for good.
If you’re someone that would rather have an ‘ordinary’ basketball career…
Maybe play a couple minutes a game…
But the only dunking you want to do is in video games…
Then the VERT SHOCK system is not for you.
Because this is an exclusive program only for those who want to be extraordinary.
Do you want to dominate your opponents and stand out in any gym you walk into?
Do you want to be recognized at parties and social events as “the guy that can dunk”?
Do you want to make it to the next level and make your parents proud?
Do you want to be the guy everyone talks about at school?
Let’s give it a go then.

My name is Adam Folker.
I used to play NCAA Division I basketball at University of California Irvine…
Tumblr media
And later went on to play in the pros…
See I’ve traveled all around the world and played basketball against some of the best players you can imagine…
Tumblr media
Kobe Bryant & Adam Folker
So trust me when I say –
Being an explosive player with a high vertical is not optional…
It’s NECESSARY.
I’m only telling you this because I used to think I could get by on my height alone…
Until life pitched me a quick curveball… and all I can say is…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kobe Bryant & Adam Folker
If it weren’t for the 3 steps in the VERT SHOCK system, which I’m about to share with you, I would never be where I am now.
Tumblr media
Let me explain…
First, look at this picture of me in 9th grade.
Here I was, 14 years old… 6 foot 4.
You’d think with that height I’d be a star right?
Well guess what…
I rode the freaking bench on my freshman squad.
Just imagine how that felt…
Being the tallest guy on the team but your coach only subs you in if you have a double-digit lead.
And how could I blame him?
I was weak, had zero explosive ability… and worst of all…
Now when you’re this tall, and you meet someone for the first time, guess what they ALWAYS ask you…
“Wow do you play basketball?”
How do you think it feels when people define you by a sport…
And you aren’t even good at it?!
I’ll never forget one game in particular.
This girl I had a huge crush on came to watch…
And guess what?
I sat square on the bench for the entire 40 minutes.
My highlight of the night was a few layups during halftime warmups…
I’ll never forget being so humiliated…
I just wanted to get out there and prove myself.
So I went home that night defeated… but determined.
Over the next 6 months, I must have spent a thousand hours looking up everything I could on vertical jump training…
I tried absolutely everything I could find.
Box jumps…
Squats…
Calf raises…
Those funny jump shoes…
Air alert…
Ankle weights…
Tumblr media
But none of it actually worked.
I was so close to accepting that NO ONE could improve their vertical…
I figured that maybe it was all genetics, that you’re either born with it or not…
And before I show you this, I need you to understand…
What I’m about to show you is the difference-maker between VERT SHOCK and just about every other jump program on the web…
It’s the ‘secret sauce’ behind my 3-step system…
And it’s going to really piss a few people off.
Especially those YouTubers, who tell you to do box jumps, squats, whatever…
Meanwhile they collect money from ads every time you watch their videos.
Trust me, they DON’T CARE if you ever dunk…
In fact, in their eyes it’s probably better if you don’t.
Just think about it: if you finally dunk, then you stop looking up their videos…
And then they stop getting paid!
I’m seriously so sick of it.
Because over the past 10 years, I’ve spent very close to 10,000 hours refining this method.
And I know the REAL way to get you up above the rim… it all starts with targeting specific muscles in your legs.
So right now, for the first time ever, I’m going to reveal this publicly.
Anyways here it goes…
That night I found a link to a scientific journal study.
And it wasn’t any ordinary study, it detailed a secret, Russian training technique which proved…
“Athletes… can… improve their strength and explosiveness while working to become more agile… in as little as 6 weeks.”
I was skeptical when I came across this.
Could you really improve your explosiveness in 6 weeks?
Was I really doing it all wrong?
So I put it to the test…
And here’s what I discovered…
Because it trains a unique subset of your muscle tissue which we call your ‘elastic fibers’.
And without getting into too much deep science they’re essentially the muscle fibers that turn your legs into rubber bands.
When you bend your legs, tension builds up…
And when you extend them it releases…
It’s all very simple…
The only way to increase your maximum vertical is to target and strengthen your elastic fibers.
Stronger elastic fibers equal more tension which equals a higher vertical.
BUT…
If you don’t train using special exercises, you end up neglecting them…
Tumblr media
That’s why you can work SO hard but never see any results in your jump height…
Let me say, if you’re skeptical, remember I was too.
After all – if this Russian workout program was so effective why hadn’t anyone taught it before?
Well there’s a couple reasons for that.
I already told you about the so-called gurus on YouTube dishing out misinformation…
The other reason? Well…
The magic behind training elastic fibers was actually developed by a Russian sports scientist named Dr. Verkhoshansky in the late 1960s…
It’s hard to pronounce so I just call him Dr. Vert, or Dr. V for short…
Dr. V developed the ‘SHOCK’ method to give the Soviet Union an unfair advantage in the Olympic high jump…
He discovered that repetitive training like squats and other ‘usual’ methods had little effect on athlete’s actual jump height.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t until he implemented workouts that targeted these elastic fibers that he noticed real results in the athlete’s vertical jump.
This allowed the Soviets to bring home the Olympic high jump medal in 1960…
And 1964…
And 1968…
And 1972…
You get the point.
The Russians dominated the high jump with the SHOCK method…
Anyways, crazy as it all sounds, several scientific studies confirm your elastic fibers are the only way to increase your hops…
Tumblr media
All you have to do is follow the routine which began with Dr. V’s work and you have the blueprint to strengthening your elastic fibers…
Which results in a higher vertical jump.
The only problem is…
Dr. V’s research and training regimen is kind of scattered all over the place.
And a lot of it has to be translated from Russian.
There’s even a manual that his younger daughter recently translated into English.
But it doesn’t give you the complete training program.
It took me nearly 6 months just to find everything and go through his journal articles…
Then another 5 years to test and research the methods…
I wanted to find the best approach to gain the most inches on your vertical jump…
I even got a Professional Strength and Conditioning Certification in the process… that’s how deep I was into this stuff!
So as you can imagine, this has kind of been my life for the past 10 years…
And I wanted to put it all into an easy to follow plan.
Tumblr media
That’s why I’ve spent countless hours compiling everything I’ve ever found on vertical jumping into a downloadable, done-for-you action plan which I’ve named VERT SHOCK.
And if you’re interested, I’ll send you a link to download all of my research, as well as the full workout plan today.
It’s the only workout plan I know of that can guarantee you a dunk in just under 8 weeks.
And remember you don’t need to buy anything special to use VERT SHOCK…
It can all be done from your home and you don’t even need access to a gym to use it!
Also…
Don’t let the ‘SHOCK’ part of the title fool you, VERT SHOCK is not only the most effective way to increase your vertical…
But it’s the safest.
Because inside VERT SHOCK you are not doing any heavy weight lifting – so it will not stunt your growth.
Think about it, does anyone ever go up for a dunk with dumbbells?
Or ankle weights, or anything like that?
No.
And we want to practice how we play.
VERT SHOCK is designed to target your MAX vertical jump by activating your ‘elastic fibers’.
So that means no weights or other fancy equipment.
Tumblr media
Because remember, weights alone will NOT strengthen your elastic fibers.
But here are the 3 very easy steps that will…
Check it out…
During the first 7 days of VERT SHOCK you will be introducing your body to the unique movement patterns and exercises of the program.
And I don’t want that to sound intimidating at all…
It’s not hard on your joints… it’s no more demanding than playing in a pick up basketball game or anything else you’ve probably tried.
In fact, it’s probably a lot easier. Remember, we’re going to be working SMART not hard.
Everything I’m going to be introducing you to is centered around unique jumping exercises combined with precise sets and reps.
This first step is called ‘The Pre-Shock’ phase and it’s designed to get your body ready to fly.
Tumblr media
You will train 4 days this week for 30 minutes per session.
Even though it is only the beginning, most of our athletes already see a 3–5+ inch gain on their vertical jump in the first 4 days!

Hey Adam,
Program is going great!!
My standing vertical was 19 inches and just on the second day it shot up to 23 inches!! Today is my rest day and then I’m back on the grind tomorrow getting started on the Shock Phase!!
Thanks for Checking in 🙂
Can’t wait to get to work tomorrow!!
i’ve been using this program for 5 days and i’ve already gained about 4-5 inches.
i believe in this program hands down.
Hey Adam,
Thanks for the program man I’m 6’2, 13 years old.
In just 2 weeks I can now easily can dunk it with two hands!!! Which means your program actually works!!!
I can’t wait for the weeks coming by.
thanks Adam.
Step 2 of VERT SHOCK training is designed to really push the limits.
Here we ‘shock’ your body into jumping higher than you ever thought possible.
This is where the real magic happens.
You will train on average just 3 days per week…
For a total of 40 minutes per session.
Each of your movements will carefully target those neglected elastic fibers.
It is important that you explode on every jump during this phase of the program…
…this is how you consistently reach your MAX vertical jump velocity and strengthen those elastic fibers.
After these 6 weeks you will be leaping higher than all your friends ever thought possible.
Tumblr media
After these 6 weeks you will be leaping higher than all your friends ever thought possible.

— Jared Cleary
Florida, USA · Vert Shock Member
The final phase of the program is the ‘The Post-Shock Phase’.
Think of this as the icing on top…
Where everything your body ‘learned’ in steps 1 and 2 becomes cemented in your muscle memory…
Ready to be called on at any time so that you can rise up and throw down massive rim-rocking dunks on command.
You will train 4 days this week for an approx. 30 minutes per session.
We back off the intensity this week and allow your body to unleash a FURY of vertical jump potential.
This is the most exciting time of the program…
You will feel much lighter and springier on your feet…
Your strengthened elastic fibers will make it feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

And now that you know a bit about the process…
Let me remind you…
I’ve already shown you dozens of 8-week dunk transformations from some of our members inside.
If that’s not enough…
Take a look at this video.
That’s my highlight reel in high school.
After learning about the body’s elastic fibers, and specifically training them with my VERT SHOCK routine, my ability to dunk changed my life.
It got me a full ride basketball scholarship to a Division 1 school…
Took me around the world.  Getting paid a salary to play basketball with the pros.
If I couldn’t dunk, I really don’t know where I’d be.
Remember my friend Justin? VERT SHOCK did the same for him…
And now look at him, he’s the World’s #1 Dunker.
So with VERT SHOCK, I now want to pay it forward and help YOU reach your goals.
I know what adding over 15+ inches to my vertical did for me…
…But how can it help you?
Whether it’s impressing your friends…
Getting recruited to play college ball…
Or even making it to the NBA…
I want to get you to wherever you want to go…
But in order to get there, you need to get above the rim.
Like these guys…

I googled vertical jump programs and spent well over $200 trying to achieve my childhood dream to dunk in a game and none of it worked! Then I found Vert Shock.
I said never hurts to try so I bought it and after 1 week my vertical increased 4 inches and I could dunk one handed. After 4 weeks I gained almost 7 inches and could just barely dunk 2 hands.
After finishing the Vert Shock program I gained more than 12 inches and bam I’m dunking 2 hands. Thanks to Adam and Folkersystem I achieved my dream.
Tumblr media
And today I want to do the same for you…
All you have to do is…
I want you to be one of the lucky few who tries my new 3-step VERT SHOCK system today.
And I suggest you hurry, because there’s a limited number of access codes I can give out.
Just to recap, VERT SHOCK can take you from zero to dunking in just under 8 weeks.
And remember it’s the only program of it’s kind…
Because it actually zeroes in on those elastic fibers in your legs…
Which can improve your vertical as much as 9-15+ inches in just a few weeks.
And if you’re ready, I want to send you an access code…
But before I do…
I need you to understand how seriously I take this program.
This isn’t one of those YouTube playlists where you can just watch a few videos… skip a few…
It’s a very clearly scheduled 8-week regimen.
Like I said earlier, this is not a complicated program.
And it’s not that tough (remember – we’re working smart, not hard).
In fact, it takes just over 90 minutes per week to complete.
You don’t need to be athletic.
You don’t need to be strong.
You don’t need any fancy equipment.
But – you do need just one thing…
You need to WANT to dunk.
That’s it.  If you can promise me that one thing…
…I can promise to take you to the rim.
And it all starts with my VERT SHOCK program.
Now in case you haven’t guessed by now…
Access to the VERT SHOCK training system is not free.
And I’m sorry, I wish I could just give it to you for free.
But the fact of the matter is I would be losing money… and would very quickly need to it shut down before going bankrupt.
Between all the cash I spent doing the research, hiring a team to film and edit the videos, creating and hosting websites, producing and publishing the training manuals…
And acquiring the ‘Professional Strength and Conditioning Certification’…
I’d estimate I’ve already spent over $55,400…
Now I can’t charge you $55,400 for VERT SHOCK…
Even though it’s cost me a lot to make it available to you.
So today I’ve lined up a very special price for this jump training program.
And if you take me up on it now, I know you’re going to love it.
But before I tell you the awesome deal I have lined up for you, let me throw in a few more things to really make this a no brainer…

Because I really want to give you the best deal possible.
But when we’re dealing with something as special as Dr. V’s dunking secrets, I can’t just give this information out to everyone.
And if I set a low price tag on VERT SHOCK, guess what?
Everyone would buy it.
That devalues the information…
And the next thing you know, all of these fake YouTubers, which you already know I hate, would take the whole VERT SHOCK system…
…Put it on their channel and make advertising money off my research and PROVEN methods.
I’ve seen it happen before.  And I’m not gonna let it happen to me.

I’d rather have a select few very, very happy (and skilled!) dunkers inside the program.
With that in mind, I’m keeping distribution of VERT SHOCK as small as possible, and ultimately protected from the masses.
That’s why I have to keep my prices relatively high…
So I hope you understand why the published price of VERT SHOCK will soon cost you $138.
Now considering how much this system can affect your vertical…
At least 9-15+ inches in under 8 weeks…

Is $138 Really Such a High Price?
Would you be willing to pay $138 to be a guaranteed superstar on your team?
To throw down huge dunks in front of your whole school…?
I mean what do you pay for a new pair of sneakers…
$120 for a pair of Kobes?
$130 for a pair of LeBrons?
Sure they make you look and feel cool on the court…
But let me ask you…
How much has a pair of shoes ever REALLY changed your game?
I’ve played basketball for over 20 years, and I don’t know anyone that’s ever gotten a scholarship for wearing pricy shoes.
But I know plenty of people who’ve gotten full rides for their ability to dunk a basketball.
Myself included…
I received somewhere around $44,000 in tuition money just because of my dunking ability…
And I got paid much more than that to play in the pros…
So please understand, dunking is a very valuable skill.
And I’m dying to see how much it could change your life… so I’m going to do something very special for a limited time because I want you try it today.

The way I see it, you have three options.
Ignore Everything You’ve Learned Today
You can do absolutely nothing…
Even after everything I’ve showed you today…
The VERT SHOCK system…
Dr. V’s research…
Elastic fibers…
If you want to pretend the facts don’t exist, that’s ok.
But when you get dunked on by that average-height guy in your next game, you’ll always wonder if he went through VERT SHOCK.
And maybe he did.
So option #1 is you can walk away and wonder “what if” for the rest of your life…
Tumblr media
Risk Everything By Going At It Alone
You can take what you learned today and go at it alone…
And good for you.
At least I’ve given you a ton of information today… so I’d say you’re much better off than most.
Now you know a lot of YouTube videos and so called jump ‘experts’ will lead you to dead ends.
So you could try to spend your time going through all of Dr. V’s research like I did…
It will probably take you a long time…
Like I said, it took me thousands of hours to compile everything…
Plus it took even longer to optimize VERT SHOCK for the maximum results in the minimum time (5+ years of testing and research!)
But if you’re someone that would rather spend a lot more time…
Doing a LOT more work… just to save a small amount of cash…
Well, then that’s your choice and I’m perfectly fine with that.
Tumblr media
Just know, it took me over 5 years AFTER finding Dr. V’s research to finally perfect and finalize the VERT SHOCK system.
