Tonight's episode really highlighted how Buck and Eddie actually have a very conditional and somewhat one-sided friendship, something that deeply contrasts the romantic relationship between Buck and Tommy. Because despite the latter couples woes, they have shown time and time again the unconditional and pure love they are capable of sharing together, which will only be amplified once they work through their current shortcomings as a couple.
Buck and Eddie;
While Evan Buckley has so often offered Eddie — and many others, to be clear — his unconditional love and support, he has also embarked on an endless journey of self-reflection. He may not be perfect and he has no doubt made some pretty significant mistakes throughout the show, but what he is is someone who is capable of looking inward, learning, and doing his best to improve, even if the process is sometimes messy or slow and too little too late. No, Buck isn't perfect, but by god, he's continuously evolving and maturing.
(I'm sorry, but Evan Buckley is very much not the one who has been stuck on the hamster wheel like so many in fandom love to claim. That lovely "honor" would actually go to Eddie Diaz.)
Buck also has a lot of love in his heart, to the point where it sometimes overwhelms and leads him astray. But even so, his intentions are almost always pure and connected to the important people in his life. In summation, his heart and the love cast from it is extremely unconditional and wrapped within a casing of overwhelming loyalty and selflessness, some missteps aside.
Eddie Diaz, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He'll love Buck — and other people, to be clear — but with a condition, one that is so often unspoken, but always lurking beneath the surface. With Eddie and conflict — be it his own or belonging to others simply seeking his guidance and support — there always seems to be this line drawn in the sand, a line representing what Eddie is and is not willing to put up with. And once you cross that line, he'll have very little patience or consideration for you and your feelings. It will show through not just overt or passive aggression, but also unapologetic projection.
The way he came at Buck in tonight's episode is a glaring representation of this:
It's easier for Eddie Diaz to look at everything as black and white, especially when it's convenient for his narrative, than it is to partake in self-reflection pertaining to his personal grief and struggles. It's easier to put the blame on his best friend, rather than acknowledge how he is not processing his own grief very well at all. It is easier to accuse his best friend, who is clearly hurting and crying out for help, that he's being selfish, than to make any attempt at taking on the pain of others while also grappling with his own. It is easier for him to fly his son back to LA to distract his best friend, than it is to take any semblance of accountability for his recent actions and actually fucking apologize. (Hoping this ages poorly because he apologizes in the finale.) It is so much easier to accuse his best friend of making everything about himself, than to acknowledge that, in this moment, he's actually the one doing so. It is easier for Eddie to grab Buck, corner him, and generally physically intimidate him, than it is to actually hear Buck out and understand his reasoning and perspective. Because... God forbid, he has his often black and white ideologies — and the emotions rooted in them — challenged. It's easier for Eddie Diaz to keep repeating the same mistakes in his life, than it is to actually work on his issues and truly evolve, even if those mistakes trickle down to the people around him, including his own son.
In summation, if Buck and Eddie were actually canonically together, I would be praying that the writers were setting up a season finale breakup, so that Buck can move on with his life and find someone who won't minimize his feelings to highlight their own, all while using physical aggression to intimidate and shut him down, or use their son to manipulate him into forgetting about what happened. Because whether the writers intend to follow up on this or not, or do or do not recognize the severity of Eddie's actions, I know what bullshit I witnessed unfold on my screen tonight.
Buck and Tommy;
I'll just be blunt here because this post is already in danger of getting too long...
Tommy Kinard would never pull the type of shit Eddie Diaz just did. Tommy may have some issues of his own that he needs to address — including his own tendency to project onto others, in addition to running away versus talking shit out. But had he been the one with Buck tonight, he would have never minimized the pain Buck was experiencing just to elevate his own, nor would he have grabbed and cornered Buck to maximize the severity of his pain and anger.
At "worst", Tommy would have gently reminded Buck to remember that people are grieving in their own way, similar to how Maddie handled Chimney, or Karen handled Athena, in the very same episode. And he would have done so, all while still considering and prioritizing Buck's feelings. And at best, Tommy would have asked Buck how he could best be there for him, because that's the type of person Tommy is. And to give Buck his own credit, he would have apologized if Tommy expressed needing more support and consideration, and then followed through after said apology. And Tommy would have been completely receptive of this and worked with Buck to ensure that both of them received the emotional support and consideration they both need. Because, ultimately, they are both mature and emotionally loving and supportive individuals — again, some missteps aside. While Eddie Diaz, sorry — but not sorry — has shown he just isn't. Not yet, at least. Buck and Tommy have shown they're capable of being a true partnership in all the ways that matter, while Eddie has made his friendship with Buck incredibly one-sided.
(Man, Buck. I am honestly proud of the man you've evolved into. You've come a long way, despite some in this fandom pretending you haven't and gleefully waiting for you to crash and burn more than your loved ones and other colleagues whenever a challenging situation occurs.)
While Eddie is quick to make Buck feel like he and his problems are "too much" to take on, Tommy would be mortified if he ever did the same, much less more than once.
I'm so glad Buck will have Tommy back in his corner soon, whether it be in the finale or sometime during 9A, because Tommy is the person Buck so clearly needs in his life right now. Buck needs someone who is going to reciprocate everything he is so eager to offer, and Tommy so clearly needs and is willing to do the same.
#911 abc#911 spoilers#bucktommy#evan buckley#tommy kinard#i may be pulling away from 9-1-1 fandom because of the paranoia and anger from all corners#but i'll be damned if i stop the occasional reflective and analytical piece.#anyway. the way i would have put my height and muscles to good use by pulling eddie away from buck and literally whooping his ass#in that kitchen - if this were real. because i tell you what - we wouldn't be friends. we wouldn't be dating. i would owe that man nothing.#in fact - someone hand me my ghostface costume.

This is barely even a half formed thought but I cannot stop thinking about how different tr!Pangi and Tr!Lukey are when alone vs with others.
Because alone they chat, they banter, they bicker and poke and prod at each other, it's natural, there's no audience, no one to put on a show for (aside from us, but that's a different conversation).
Look at the camping date, for example. Two stories are told, and both of them are incredibly attentive during it. They listen, they ask questions, they want to know more. Sure, at that time Pangi didn't know Lukey, but the dynamic is still there. They're silly together, they play and they laugh.
Yet on the formal date - with death and the ex of sorts watching over them - conversation is stilted. A performance. It's what they think they should ask vs what they want to ask. It's a play, for others to watch, not for themselves to experience.
#am i making sense?#i loved the date it was so funny#but the dichotomy of them alone vs them together is#and it's not even really about when they're alone. not really. because they're grossly in love around aimsey right?#what people want them to be vs who they are#pili pov of the whole thing was a TREAT#that poor man suffered through that whole thing he's owed compensation#the realm smp#pangi#lukey#pangkey#trsmp#essie talks

Okay, but here's a dark au where Spider drags Quaritch from the water and promptly kills him, and now no one knows what to do with this human child soaked in the blood of his own father. Blood is thicker than water, right? Why would a son kill his own father? Pandora's greatest enemy is dead. The scourge of the Na'vi is gone.
So, what is this feeling of discontent?
-) The moment Spider pulled Quaritch from the water, he made a choice.
-) The once-mighty colonel was barely clinging to life, his body battered, his strength drained. Weak. Helpless. A man who had terrorized Pandora, who had burned forests and spilled the blood of Eywa's children, now lay before him, gasping, vulnerable.
-) The knife in Spider’s hand felt light. The motion effortless.
-) One swift drag across the throat was all it took. Just like Neytiri would have done to him. 'Do you see me now?' Spider thinks. 'See me. See me. SEE! LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAVE MADE OF ME!'
-) Quaritch barely made a sound, just a wet, choked gasp as his lifeblood spilled into the water, dark ribbons mixing with the lapping waves. His body seized, his fingers twitching—but Spider only crouched there, watching, waiting. He waited for the flood of emotion. For the relief. The triumph. The guilt. But there was nothing. Just… numbness.
-) The monster was dead. The one responsible for so much suffering, for so much destruction, for everything—gone. And yet, Spider felt nothing. His father’s glassy eyes stared up at him, lifeless. Eywa’s grace had abandoned him long ago. And with any luck, Quaritch’s soul would never find peace. Never find acceptance. Spider exhaled slowly, running his tongue over dry lips, blinking at the bloodied body at his feet. His hands weren’t even shaking.
-) It was done. His brother avenged. The souls of Neytiri's family are avenged. His debt to the Sullys was paid in full. Everything is calm.
-) A soft rustling pulled his gaze upward. His father's Banshee crouched a few feet away, its golden eyes locked onto Spider with an eerie intensity. Spider tensed, half-expecting it to lunge, to attack, to avenge its fallen rider. But it didn’t. It simply watched. And then, without a sound, it lowered its head. Acceptance. Recognition.
-) As if possessed by something beyond himself, Spider stepped forward, his hand outstretched. His fingertips brushed against the creature’s snout, and for the first time that horrible day, he allowed himself a small, hollow smile. Perhaps it was a good thing that Quaritch never truly bonded to this one.
-) The rest of the Na'vi find him hours later, and Tonowari approaches first, his large shadow stretching over the scene, but he hesitates. The Metkayina chief has seen many battles, many bodies. And yet, this is different. This is a child, soaked in the blood of his own father. Why would a son do this? Spider meets his gaze, his expression empty. He waits for judgment. Condemnation. Something.
-) But when Tonowari speaks, it is not with anger. "The demon is dead." A statement. A fact. The warriors behind him exchange uneasy glances, but none argue. Some murmur in agreement; others simply watch. None move to comfort the boy who did the deed. Perhaps they do not know how.
-) The Sully are more horrified than relieved. Even Neytiri, who should feel the greatest relief of all, does not celebrate. Her bow hand clenches, fingers twitching as though her body is caught between two instincts. To praise him… or to fear him. She does not understand. She had thought she knew hatred. She had felt it burn through her when she held the blade to Spider’s throat on the Sea Dragon, her grief drowning out reason.
-) Jake had told her stories—of how humans could be cruel to their own offspring, how some children were beaten, abandoned, even killed by those who were meant to love them. How those same children woke up one day and decided to kill their parents. She had never believed it. Not until now. She watched Spider wipe the blood from his blade with mechanical precision, his movements too calm, too practiced. There is no triumph in his face, no relief, no sorrow.
Just a hollow emptiness.
-) Something dark and quiet has settled in the boy’s chest, a coldness that should not exist in one so young. The boy named Spider died on the Sea Dragon. Drowned beneath the weight of Neytiri’s hate, choked on the understanding that he would never belong. And what remains in his place is something else. Something Tonowari's people and the Sullys do not understand. Something they accept but fear all the same.
-) Jake takes a step forward, but Spider lifts a bloodied hand, stopping him before he can speak. "Don’t." His voice is hoarse, flat. "Your son has been avenged. The debt is paid. I am done. We are done." Jake stares, tears in his eyes, something unspoken hanging between them. "Kid, I never wanted this--" Spider turns his back, mounting the ikran with the ease of someone who had done it a thousand times before. And then he was gone. The wind howled as the graceful creature lifted itself into the sky, carrying Spider higher, farther, into the unknown. Jake’s voice rose behind him, calling his name. Kiri's voice is the loudest, crying and screaming for him, but he hardens his heart. They call his name. Spider does not return. Spider does not look back.
#james cameron avatar#avatar the way of water#miles 'spider' socorro#spider socorro#a child not embraced by the village absorbs their hate and becomes a s shadow of their former selves#I feel like Spider would be operating on wanting to avenge his brother by killing his own father#but at the same time he killed Quaritch simply because he's fucking tired and does the opposite of what everyone expected him to do#He's tired of this man tormenting the sullys and he's tired of being the one to answer for his crimes#so he ended it on his own terms#all that's left of Quaritch is his ikran who took one look at this blood-soaked boy and thought “YUP! ok ill put it into words this time. whats really funny is that Kendrick has been talking about these topics for a decade but it just so happens that most artists dip their toes into a little bit of "Oh My God This Industry Is Eating Me Alive I Sold My Soul To The Devil And I Cant Trust Anyone Here" to some extent (and then continue on to thrive in said table of demons). and people mistakenly put his intertwined criticisms of racism in america and black capitalism working together, the money worship and lack of substance, disconnect from the roots of the art form and by extension the culture, his peers failing in both individual and societal responsibilities, all that. and Kendrick decided, no, youre not getting me, and put theory to practice and Showed what his art is meant to do and thats CRAZY. first rapper to prove his theories can apply to real life. Law Of Kendrick.
hes been going double thread about it too, the whole drake beef he built upon his ideas slowly by going Artistic Criticism, Social Criticism, Moral Criticism and reinforced Meet The Grahams serious sexual allegations with Not Like Us. now with Watch The Party Die hes underlining the central themes like hes a teacher who is going to quiz you. he hasnt been battling drake at all, he called him to the board and has been in uninterrupted eye contact with us the whole time, explaining and analyzing drake from various lenses. he wants you to understand and agree with his artistic vision and lead and inspire a new wave.

perhaps its just the toxic inniterisms but he was SIXTEEN and idk it just makes me really fucking angry. im glad that he's now grown up and more confident and clearly fine enough to talk about it pretty calmly but like. that was a fucking kid and he deserved better even just from what we know publicly, and given his allusions to how "horrible" some people were to him well. i think the death by hammers is justified
#its not even just dream because he specified it was several people#but even just the dream twitter thing. how are you as a grown man guilting this teenager who's just being friendly and teasing you#like i get that misreading tone happens but thats not the problem#if it were just that you would just DM the person like 'hey are we arguing fr right now or is still a bit'#you wouldnt plaster all over twitter in public numbers that supposedly prove that said teenager owes their career to you#and i dont even know how we let that slide back in the day. thats not a 'misreading the situation' honest mistake. thats fucking insane#alex.rambles.txt#cc!tommy#mcyt#discourse

I also just realized that we really only get the 7 days before the crash to really see the people Curly and Anya were before the crash. It's not even the full seven days. We get the first two and the last two with a gap in the time for what could have gone down.
I just realized how vague it was and how quickly it all happened. They are such small moments and such short glimpses. She's only just told Curly two days before the crash. The next she told Jimmy and Curly had to confront him. It's further implied right after that conversation, Curly goes to collect himself and figure things out and Jimmy immediately crashes the ship, once he's far enough to not stop him, cause he knows Curly would never truly allow it to happen.
But he takes that as the okay to go ahead, because in the long time he's known Curly, that's always been the okay.
The difference in the gaps in the timeline really just paint a bigger less explained but more obvious picture.
#like im only just really realizing how short that time frame is and we are missing days but i genuienly think the assult happened sometime#between the first two days and the last two days hence the gap in time for ambiguity#I just realized what Curly did was act as a sheild for Anya but it just didn't work. he believed he could#bring her comfort by simply not allowing Jimmy near her by supplementing her tasks and taking over some of her responsibilities#this always worked for Jimmy and he really only uses this as a basis for social interaction with the crew which is like cray cray on its ow#but i digress like he should've done more but man the jump in severity is crazy on Jimmy's part from menacing to the attac#as he likely used the psych evals to measure up his chances like a freak. Not to mention how Curly was just piecing things together when he#realized she never got psych evals like its all so confined im just so wacked out because yeah Curly still could've done way more the momen#he found out but Im also just realzing how short a day fucking is so like damn any way team kill Jimmy with stones and slap Curly till he#makes a better friend go#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#this is just something im really conceptualizing btw like I know the time frame im just actually thinking about it with all the other facto

So when Darcy went to fix the Lydia/Wickham situation, he first tried to get Lydia to return home, only bribing Wickham into marrying her when she wouldn't. This is sensible by modern standards, but we know from everyone else's reactions Lydia *failing* marrying Wickham would bring the Bennet family shame. Darcy knows this, and doubt he planned to leave the situation as is. So how did he originally plan to fix it?
I think Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy was gonna channel his inner Emma Woodhouse (didn't have to dig far, they're very similar people) and play matchmaker. In my headcannon Darcy checked his "Possible Husbands for Georgie" list against his "People who owe me Gargantuan favours" list and offer whoever came up money to marry Lydia.
Now, he would want to spare the Bennets of as much of the scandal as possible, and wouldn't want to take the merit in front of Lizzie, so all would most likely happen discreetly through Mr. Gardiner, while Lydia was in London, and she would move to her husbands immediatly after.
However, I wanna propose a different scenario: Lydia returns to Meryton. Scandal ensues, the Bennets are disgraced. Then, within two weeks, a random well-off man shows up intent on courting Lydia and *only* Lydia. He heeds nobodys warnings and gives no explanations. Lydia loves it. Every other mum in Meryton is furious. The Bennets are confused and paranoid. Imagine the drama. The intrige. The million questions still unawnsered long after Lydia eventually gets married and leaves. Bingley marries Jane (cause of course Darcy still told him he'd been wrong to pull them apart, and Bingley would) and Darcy's still somewhat around. Maybe him and Lizzie get together, maybe not, but every time the topic comes up he gets all sheepish and awkward and she gets suspicious and it's a thing. It's their new dynamic.
#picture a binder for “people who owe me Gatgantuan favours”#and like a few pages for “Possible husbands for Georgie” in a folder#“why would Darcy waste a good man on (ugh) Lydia?” i fear someone might ask?“#because Darcy's a good considerate person. he was trying to save her for a bad marriage in the first place.#not saying he'd give up the top pick but he wouldn't set her up with anything less than safe and decent#also as annoying as Lydia is she doesn't deserve abuse. Austen makes a point of telling us even with Wickham she's got her family's support.#also also the top pick is probably Charles and he's taken so#jane austen#mr darcy#lydia bennet#mr. gardiner#lizzie bennet#decent guy.#pride and prejudice#classic literature
