8 Mouth-Watering South Indian Sweets
It’s hard to imagine festivals without our traditional sweets. But, it’s not just those special occasions when we crave for them. South Indian sweets, with their exquisite taste and irresistible flavour, are treats that you want to enjoy anytime.
While some South Indian sweets such as Kesari and Mysore Pak have found wider recognition across the subcontinent, there are many hidden gems in the cuisine of South India. In this article, we’ll cover eight sweet delicacies — both, famous and relatively unknown — that will delight your taste buds.
1. Payasam
The word payasam comes from the word ‘peeyusham’, meaning divine nectar or ambrosia. This fine concoction of coconut milk and jaggery tastes delectably creamy and sweetened to perfection!
It is no surprise that payasam is a permanent component of the typical South Indian thali, and also finds its place during festivals and occasions. If you’re planning to make payasam at home, you can add a touch of creativity to this exquisite dish by adding carrots, or fruits such as mango or pineapple topped by chopped dry fruits and nuts.
2. Mysore Pak
One of the most popular South-Indian sweets Mysore Pak was invented by accident by a cook belonging to a royal family in Mysore. It is unanimously known as the king of South Indian sweets. This lip-smacking speciality is made from milk powder, pure ghee (clarified butter), and sugar. The irresistible taste of Mysore Pak will leave an everlasting mark on your palette.
Though if you’re watching your weight or concerned about health issues, our Karupatti Ghee Mysore Pak and Mysurpa made from Nattu Sakkarai, figs and dates are treats you can enjoy guilt-free!
3. Maladu
This is a South Indian delicacy rich in protein originated in Tirunelveli. Popularly known as Ma ladoo, this sweet, nutritious, and scrumptious treat is made from dal (lentils). If you want to make something delicious and healthy at home, maladu is the perfect option for you and it takes barely 15 minutes to prepare.
Our Karupatti halwa is another awesome sweet from Tirunelveli that you must try.
4. Adhirasam
This age-old popular sweet is generally served at festivals, weddings, and special occasions. Made from rice flour, cardamom, and jaggery, the roots of Adhirasam lie in Tamil Nadu. According to the ancient recipe, it takes one whole week to prepare and make it. Sadly, it’s difficult to find authentic adhirasam nowadays as most of the makers use modern methods and machines to cut short the preparation time. However, if you’re lucky you may find shops in Tamil Nadu selling traditional adhirasam.
5. Poli
A Pongal must-have, this easy-to-make nutritious treat is loved by one and all. Made with grated coconut, wheat flour, jaggery, pure ghee (clarified butter), turmeric powder, and cardamom this soft and sweet bread is a must if you have a sweet tooth.
Tumblr media
6. Cashew Barfi or Kaju Katli
This diamond-shaped sweet has a rich taste of cashews and a smooth, melt-in-the-mouth texture. Often punctuated with flavours such as cardamom or rose, this specialty isn’t just made in South India but is a staple sweet all over the country. For a true-blue Southern twist, however, try our Karupatti Kaju Katli.
7. Badusha
Similar to its cousin, the balushahi, badusha, the irresistible donut-shaped delight is popularly known as a Diwali sweet. Another variant the smaller Chitti badushas are also served during festive occasions. These deep-fried and syrup-dipped treats are perfect when you wish to indulge your sweet tooth.
8. Seenimittai
Traditionally from Tuticorin seenimittai is made from rice flour, urad dal, and cardamom for fragrance. Once deep-fried, they are dunked in sugar syrup which crystallizes and forms sweet and crispy yummy curls of sweetness.
Simultaneously, the best and the worst part about having these sweets is that you can never stop at one. If you’ve tasted them once, your taste buds will want to enjoy them again and again. But, no worries — you can place an order with us online and get your favourite South Indian sweets delivered anywhere in the world.

5 Days Bangkok Itinerary: Find Zen Amidst A Busy City In Ayutthaya
Project article for Singtel
The Land of Smiles. The City of Sin. A foodie heaven. An intrinsic holy city. Thailand’s capital possesses many different identities - but there’s one thing for certain, it is adored around the world. My name is Zenmo and today I’ll show you the ropes of finding your zen amidst a busy city! It is hard to summarize the diversity of travel to Thailand; for similar to its cuisine, it is a multicultural blast of flavours. Planning to visit the cosmopolis for your much-needed getaway? Aside from visiting night markets, indulging in street snacks - consider adding a day trip to your itinerary for a change in scenery. Outside the cluttered cities lies Thailand’s rural heartland; a mix of ancient grand sites and cultural villages, where life is dominated by the rhythms of the agricultural clock - this is Zenmo’s 5 day Bangkok-Ayutthaya Itinerary!
Highlights:
Cafe Hopping
Incredible Street Food
Unseen Train Markets
Floating Markets
Historical ancient capitals
BRIEF ITINERARY
Day 1 to 2 : Explore the beauty Bangkok
Day 2 to 5 : Navigate through the ancient city of Ayutthaya
DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Bangkok – Arrival
Source: Unsplash
Welcome to the Land of Smiles!
This is where the magic starts! Upon your arrival at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, you can opt to take a direct train from the Bangkok Airport Rail Link, which will take you straight to the city’s centre within half an hour. After checking in and getting settled at your homely accommodation, you can start your Bangkok journey with a visit to Victory Monument’s Sutyot Kuetiau Lua Payak - a place to get traditional palm-sized rice noodles, formerly sold on boats, at just 10 baht per bowl! Did you know that the small portions were for safety so that the noodles did not spill over when handling from the boat to the customer in the past?
When you are done with lunch, head over to Bangkok’s Grand Palace, a must visit for any traveler to Bangkok. Start your first day exploring the magnificent temples! The former home of the monarch, the Grand Palace is located on the ground of the architectural wonder Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The grounds contain more than 100 buildings, all beautifully decorated with gold and diamonds in different colors in old-Bangkok style.
Here’s a Zenmo tip – When it comes to visiting temples or basically any official/formal environment: make sure you’re covered up. No knees, no thighs, no shoulders and no chest/cleavage!
End your night by making your way to Yaowarat Road, also known as Chinatown Bangkok! Easily reachable via metro, you can drop off at Wat Mangkon station and walk a short distance down.By day, it stands, as a humble street, but by night, it is filled with exuberant life with neon signs blazing and many eateries spilling out onto the streets. Those hankering for a bowl with layers of umami goodness should try the Pork Soup or Steamed Rice Noodles along the red lantern-specked street!
Day 2: Bangkok - Cafe Hopping
Source: Roastbkk
Rise and shine for the early grind! It’s time to visit Bangkok’s ever-growing cafe scene. Start your morning by heading to Thonglor, one of Bangkok’s cafe streets, widely visited by both locals and tourists – anyone who enjoys a cuppa and quiet afternoons. This is a section of Bangkok filled with hipster cafes housing beautiful decoration and insta-worthy food. It is THE place you want to be at if you’re thinking of Cafe Hopping! These are the few cafes I visit at Thonglor:
Begin the morning at Thonglor’s “archipelago”, a street that is littered with quaint cafes. Have some coffee and breakfast at Ekkamai Macchiato! From a sun-dappled, mid-century modern house, a bevy of baristas work their magic on blends and single-origins from roasting local coffee. Cold brew, espresso mixed with chocolate, fruit shakes and more on a wide-range menu, you can opt for a some eggs benedict to pair with!
Next up, a visit to the Commons, a space known as “Thonglor’s backyard” housing various artisan cafes and eateries! For lunch, visit Roast - the restaurant/cafe that sits atop this eco-friendly mall! Possibly the kick-starter of Bangkok's love affair with brunch, Roast nailed it with their all-day breakfast. Try their Tarte Flambee, a thin crust pizza with guanciale, onion, creme fraiche and parmesan or satisfy that sweet tooth with their Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes, served with cream cheese, blueberry sauce, earl grey crumble and lemon zest.
While the city has several quaint cafes, it also has its fair share of animal cafes! After exploring the streets of Thonglor, take a tuk-tuk ride to the Big Dog Cafe. As the name states, the cafe does have some really big dogs, however, these large-sized dogs are not at all intimidating! In fact, they are happy, amicable and will be more than pleased to welcome you to their home. You can enjoy playing with these big creatures belonging to a number of breeds such as Chow Chow and Alaskan Malamute among others. While you need to pay an entrance fee to get inside, the perks include a complimentary drink and a chance to spend some time with these adorable dogs.
Day 3: Bangkok - Yoga Session and Train Market
Start off the morning by visiting Lumphini Park for some fresh air! This big green park is a relaxing place located in the center of Bangkok city, Pathum Wan area. Due to its easy reach from both SkyTrain (BTS Saladaeng) and subway (MRT Lumphini), it is a popular choice among city dwellers who crave fresh air and exercise. Afterwards, you can head to the inexpensive Thai Street food buffet right next to the park! This might be a stretch, but this place has got the be the cheapest street food buffet in Bangkok – or even Thailand. The price is only ฿40 (~USD1.31) and you get unlimited refills with no time limit. Let us know if you can find a better deal than this! They use a self-service system here, so you can scoop up all the food you want on your plate.
Are you missing your yoga mat and need a place to do your downward dogs just like me ? Bangkok’s best yoga studios offer a wide range of practices including Ashtanga Mysore, Yin, Iyengar, Bikram and even aerial yoga. Namaste! Luckily Bangkok boasts a wide array of yoga studios across many neighbourhoods.
One of the pioneers of hot yoga in Thailand, Absolute You  boasts 14 outlets across the city. Absolute You offers a variety of classes including Vinyasa yoga, Hatha yoga, Yin Yang, Absolute Fit, Hot series, Hot Flow, and many other styles. For yoga enthusiasts out there, the fitness boutique is really where you can foster your passion for the art under experts who will guide you through each posture.
End your day at  the original Talat Rot Fai (commonly known as Train Night Market). The Train Night Market, at its primary location at Sri Nakharin has been ranked the most popular night market in Bangkok. Even though it isn’t as easily accessible as the night markets in the city, you can simply book a grab and head down from wherever you are based! The market focuses on antiques and vintage-style offerings, especially clothing and home accessories. That said, the market has become far more mainstream in recent years. It’s now possible to find all kinds of things here. Everything from cheap street fashion to electronics, home decor, and plenty more. You’ll even find old-fashioned al-fresco barber shops delivering haircuts for as little as a couple of hundred baht. In addition to the main outdoor market area that sits at the very back of the site, there are a number of alleys of brick-and-mortar shops that visitors stream through on their way into the market.
Day 4: Ayutthaya
Source: Unsplash
If you’re tired of waking up to another day of skyscrapers and traffic jams in Bangkok, it’s time for a new experience and take a day trip out of Bangkok. Wake up bright and early and make your way to the next city, the astounding Ayutthaya via train! With famous temple ruins and palace grounds scattered throughout the ancient capital, it is truly a testament to its immense cultural value. Get ready to wander through endless ancient ruin sites and be humbled by the ingenuity of the Ayodhya craftsmen.
Easily accessible from Bangkok’s Hua Lumpung station, you can take a train that operates daily. Hard third-class seats go for 20 baht while a cushioned seat in second class costs 65 baht. Once you drop anchor at Ayutthaya, get ready for some boating down the city’s intricate network of canals and rivers. The most popular tour starts every late afternoon by noisy longtail boats with stops at Wat Phutthaisawan, Wat Chaiwatthanaram and Wat Phanan Choeng.
Afterwards, a little past noon, a scenic lunch from a relaxing river cruise down the Pasak River awaits. Hear the soothing sounds of the river as you enjoy mouthwatering Thai dishes while cruising down the ancient city. To the west of the city, temple hop to one of the most visited historical sites of Ayutthaya: Wat Chaiwatthanaram. The Angkor temple’s architectural style showcases influences from its Khmer past, built in 1630 under King Prasat Thong after returning victorious from an invasion of Khmer lands.
End your day at Krungsri Ayutthaya Night Market! Better known as Krungsri Walking Street by locals, it is where they gather to snack and shop! This vibrant marketplace is lined with bamboo tables for eating and oversized fairy lights, greeting you with decoration from yesteryears like bamboo façade inspired by the ancient army camps, canon replicas and old-fashioned kiosks.
 Day 5: Bangkok
Source: Bangkok beyond
Up for a morning cycle? The Ayutthaya Historical Park opens at the crack of dawn for your very own DIY tour around its famous temples and ruins. Take advantage of the small crowd and grab a bicycle while taking your time to immerse yourself in the historic beauty of this ancient city before heading home. Just beside the park, get your king river prawns fix at Talad Klang Pue Kaset Tagon, the seafood market surrounded by local eateries who serve cheaper seafood than in the city centre.
After noon, bid farewell to Ayutthaya and catch a short train ride that will deliver you to Don Muang Airport to catch your flight back home.

A Diamond Trader’s Guide For Cheap Food
Tumblr media
You won’t find a non-veg dish here if your life depended on it.
It’s easy to get lost in the bylanes of South Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazaar. Located in the 3rd agiary lane, this is the city’s largest jewellery, gold and diamond hub. Expensive jewellery shops interspersed with little food stalls that have mushroomed around them.
“This is where working class people (including rich jewelers) get good food at cheap prices after a hard day’s work,” says Akash, chef at a South Indian restaurant tossing his famous Mysore Masala Dosa.
During teatime, the bazaar is practically impenetrable. There are scores of craftsmen and traders out on the streets, devouring freshly cooked vegetarian snacks like kachoris, chaat, samosa and pudlas. Other favourites include Dayaram’s Namkeen which was started 70 years ago and is famous for its Chhappan Bhog. Mohanbhai Pudlawala was established in the year 1968 and its moongdaal pudla is a real crowd puller.
Khau Galli comes alive between 4-7pm everyday with the Gujarati, Jain and Marwadi community out in full force. This vegetarian brigade loves their tea-time snacks and vendors have seen the same faces, some of them for over five decades now.
Some changes happened after the 2011 bomb blasts that claimed 27 lives. The city’s civic body drove away several hawkers to ease the congestion in the area. But stalls cropped up again, though not as many as before. Several diamond merchants also shifted to the more secure Bharat Diamond Bourse in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), which meant that stall owners lost some of their most loyal patrons. But life moves on and old patrons have made way for the new.

(as I suspected Bangalore airport air Asia staff given wrong information | person if arriving phuket directly from any other country can get on arrival visa at phuket) I run here and there finally I met air asia staff who took me to an immigration officer who gave first priority to my group but we missed our flight during our visa process which our real flight departure 6.20am, so after obtained all 16 members visas we proceed to next flight which air asia provided without any cost, (this moment I felt very relaxed) we arrived phuket then i collected my baggage & proceed to exit 3, met our representitve with prebooked toyota vans with drivers and directly transferred to Moti Mahal indian restaurant for braekfast, afetr breakfast transefred to hotel patong paragon resort & spa (4star), on arriving hotel lobby all welcomed by water melon juice, then at 1 pm we all got room keys, had awesome shower then 3 pm we transfered for lunch at moti mahal restarant, after lunch we took small walk near patong beach, then we exchanged dollars to thai bhat & inr to thai bhat ($ 100 = thb 3134) after few people wanted to buy local sim card but hope no one bought, then we took walk on bhangla road, then 6 pm by taxi transferred to simon caberate show, hope it is one of world famous show. (i may be visited Thailand more than 50 times but I don't get bored to see this show in Pattaya similar show called Alcazar Show) after the show we come back to the hotel had a small party then 9.30pm had dinner at Delhi Darbar Restuarant then back to the hotel to sleep.
4th march Sunday: after 5.30am wakeup call all got up 6 am then self-made bed coffee than hot shower & breakfast at 6.45am, then vehicle picked us 7.15am for phi phi island tour, from our hotel to ferry terminal around 45 minutes journey, our ferry started around 9 am, wow i cant expalin how beautiful this sea with big roacks & when its reached phi phi islands almost 11.15am few went snorkelling & remain proced to where English movie The beach shot, few swam in beach & few had beer at seashore, then we had seafood lunch at 1 pm, then we return to our ferry by 2.15pm as we reached back phuket harbour by 5pm, our toyota vehicle after an hour journey reached our hotel. evening group went to Chicago adult show in Bangla road except few, later all had dinner at Shalimar Indian restaurant (i hope this is the best Indian restaurant in Phuket), after dinner all back to the hotel to sleep.
5th March Monday: today after breakfast 9.00 am we all met our guide Diamond who young & pretty, ( my suggestion better start 8 am) we transfer by two vans to rafting place which located 85km away from Patong beach,
