Yesterday, I joined the #bestgoals2019 challenge w/ @risingtidesociety + @honeybook + @cultivatewhatmatters Today’s question: Where do I want to be when I’m 100 years old? First, perspective. I only have control of one person and that’s me. I believe that I must be the change in the world I am seeking. Although I WANT the healthiest, happiest spouse and family, I can’t control them, rather lead by example. So, I’ve worked hard to change bad habits into beautiful rituals. Everything that used to feel like a chore (working, going to the gym) I transformed into a routine that I am excited about doing so I can be a good example for my friends & future children. My body, health + success come first. Then I can take care of the rest of my family. My goals are based around business so I can have maximum freedom & time to spend with my loved ones. Working as a makeup artist is something that I dreamed of as a little girl. Once I was thrown into the real world it became apparent that I had to trade my time for dollars and I struggled as an artist. A few years ago it really began to lose it’s luster when I began to feel physically ill and reliant on freelance makeup jobs. I felt obligated to take every “opportunity” that came my way and worried about where my next paycheck would come from. I also saw it change my clients lives in the worst way with cancer and severe allergic reactions. It was sad to see lab testing done on animals and the horrible things overseas cosmetic factories do to our planet. It wasn’t until I found safer, greener products that I fell in love with beauty all over again. Cleaner products + sustainable practices have transformed my health in ways that medicine didn’t and my business with residual income and opportunities I never even dreamed of! I know that I can’t physically work for every dollar and use my brain, rather than my hands to make $$. This has empowered me and my family. It also lets me help other women do the same when they’re ready. Whether it’s making them feel beautiful, growing their business, helping them switch to safer products for their family or all 3! So, today is the last day of the Insta Challenge and it's all about following through on the goals I've been talking about all week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let me introduce you to two of my very best friends: Sarah Bond with @graceandgoldevents and Emma Seitz with @all_things_extraordinary - throwing it WAY back to October 2015, when we worked together for the first time out in Palm Springs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since this photo was taken, Sarah has had one baby, Emma has had two babies, Emma + Sarah started their own wedding planning company together, Emma decided she wanted to venture into a company by herself as a florist and day-of coordinator, Sarah bought her first home, I've moved from California to Colorado and now soon to Texas and I've gone from a solo photographer to a husband-wife-team and back to a solo photographer who also works as a business and marketing strategist for creative mommas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Basically, we've each lived a lot and through it all - we've had each others' back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These two ladies, my friends, are my tribe. They're my community. They're who I call when I need advice, need to laugh, need a distraction. They're the first ones I run ideas past (after talking with Randy, of course), and they're the first ones to shout "YASSS GIRL!" from the rooftops. Sarah and I are writing an e-book together for brides planning their DIY wedding and Emma is helping edit it. This year, the three of us have even formed our own little unofficial mastermind group. We meet up over Google Hangout, we talk, we advise, we plan, we dream, we laugh, we cry - all together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I mean, we're like the three musketeers. 💁🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you've got a creative partner/friend/community like this - tag them below. Day 3: Making an intentional year list is something that I've always wanted to do but never really sat down to do it so I'm glad that it is a part of this week's Insta Challenge! 👍🏻👍🏻 We all know the little ins and out of ourselves and what's holding us back and it's not to say that I'm going to be perfect after I create this list but it a super fun activity and I encourage others to do it if you haven't done so. You can swipe right to see some of the things on my list to 1) keep me accountable and 2) just see what's going on in my mind! ➡️➡️➡️ I won't go into too much details on what I'm trying to say but a couple things that I wanted to highlight are: I'm happy to say that I haven't really worked with any difficult customers in the past couple years but I will say that I am still encountering some inquiries from some and so that was first on my list of things I'm just going to say no to - there's no need for me to try and foster a relationship with someone who doesn't already appreciate my craft and the time and energy I'm putting into it. Real talk. Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated! 🤫 Had a great discussion about goal setting with the @tuesdaystogethertrivalley crew tonight and as usual, always great... one take away from tonight is: let it go (Yup!! Just like Elsa said!) 😶 Don’t let difficult moments or small failures linger into the new year! Yesterday, I shared with you my idea for my big picture, as part of the Goal Setting Insta-challenge with my friends at @risingtidesociety @cultivatewhatmatters + @honeybook ... and today is all about "the Why." ✨⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love being a wedding photographer for one simple reason: I love telling the stories of couples who love the hell out of each other. That's it - that's my entire why. It's all encompassing in my purpose behind the lens. 🙌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But this year? My "Why" is growing, because *I* am growing as an entrepreneur and businesswoman. Not only am I a wedding photographer, but this year I'm adding on "business strategist for work at home moms" and "podcaster" to my repertoire. Yep, you read that right! 😎⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, in addition to documenting the love stories, my why also includes this: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is my mission to help women live a life they love and chase their dreams by offering consulting, education and strategies for work at home moms in business for themselves. 💕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm so excited for this new avenue of my business, because it means I get to combine the two things I love the most: being a businesswoman and being a mom. Day 2 | My Mission Statement: Simple Joie offers a unique wedding photography experience for amazing couples by helping them create and capture their authentic love story; dedicated to the highest quality of photography delivered with pride, sincerity and originality. 🥵 That’s a mouth full... but it’s true! I’m not your average wedding photographer! I come from a long line of hard working parents and siblings and I value every hand that has pushed or lifted me to where I am today and I know I bring that same mentality to my craft. Not every single couple that knocks on my door may have the same core values as I do but I know they all appreciate my willingness to share my insight on engagment photo ideas, wedding planning, posing together, day of timeline ideas, and most importantly: doing what I can to help them accomplish their dream wedding. 😬 Yes they are cover my time to come out to share my photography skills and post processing time along with whatever print/albums may come with a package... I don’t get paid to do this BUT when I end up being the only vendor that will be there with my couple through out their entire day - I can’t help but point out how to better their experience when/if needed OR lend a hand to fix a problem they’re having that occurred that day (let’s just say that I’m not going to stand around if no one knows how to sew a button or a broken strap back into place - it happens). 👍🏻 We all have messy lives and obstacles we have to overcome every other day so after months of planning - your wedding day should be: if not perfect... pretty darn close!! Cleaned my place this weekend and loved that I was able to throw away so much stuff because you shouldn’t hold on to things you don’t need! BUT also found some old things that I thought I’d lost that I may not have found unless I had did the cleaning.. this was inspiring to me so I had been doing back through some old weddings to find some old faves that I never got to share just because and this was one of them.. will probably pop out a few of these here and there! Day 1: Where do you want to be when you’re 80, 90, or 100? 🤔 I suppose if I were looking at the big picture, I would want to be comfortable financially at the end of my career! I would love to be able to travel until I'm unable to physically and then spend the rest of my days watching sunsets from my lake/ bay/ ocean front house (somewhere where there is water). I would still be light-chasing until I can no longer carry that 10lbs camera around (which means I'd hope I'm still pretty healthy in my old age).. It's so true what they say that when you start to paint the bigger picture that you'll probably want to change/ create goals to invest in that big picture! 🤯 So.. I have been pondering my health a lot lately (it's actually that thing that has been keeping me up at night). I didn't really announce my new year's resolutions this year like I've done in the past because I knew that I had failed my healthy goals over and over again... and honestly I think it's also because I didn't want to have to admit that even though I wear my confidence on my sleeve and am proud of who I am (no body shaming here) - I'm not as healthy as I would like to be. I'm prediabetic and if I can't maintain and/or lose any weight... I know I would be heading to diabetes town. On my plate is definitely weight loss goals this year! 🤓 Anyways aside from working on my health every year for the rest of my life... I'd love to be able to look back and know that I had spent my life doing something meaningful with my photography. I love shooting weddings and will continue to do so but as of late I have been mentoring a few acquaintances and close friends and I love seeing individuals take that knowledge and running free with it. I know that I've much to learn myself but I know I have valuable insight that was only gained with experience so I'm working on putting together some kind of 101 mentorship course for up and comers. 😅 Well, that's a lot of vulnerability spilled in one post. It's no surprise when people state that "the book is better..." because it's when you read the book that you'll really get to the raw emotions and thoughts of the characters you are reading about as well as leave some room for imagination! It's kindda neat that some viewers would say that the equivalent of reading the book instead of seeing the movie is looking at black and white photos as oppose to the colored photos.
