10 Reasons To Quit Smoking

In this blog post I will list 10 (Good) reasons you should quit smoking and start vaping. Quitting smoking once and for all can be hard. But, with the help of vaping you could be smoke free tomorrow. There are many good reasons to quit smoking, the least of all being the cost to your wallet and your health.

1. The Savings

The price of a packet of 30 cigarettes in Australia as of May 2020 is $48. If you are a pack a day smoker that means you’re forking more than $300 a week and over $17,000 per year. Just think of that holiday you’ve been saving for, or the new car you’ve been wanting to buy.

Vaping (in comparison) is relatively cheap. A brand new starter kit and enough e-liquid to last a week is less than the cost of two packets of cigarettes. Vaping is around 95% safer than smoking and offers an alternative option for those who have struggled to quit smoking with traditional methods.

2. Smelling Like an Ashtray is Not Cool

When you’re a smoker you don’t seem to notice it. But trust me, the smell is bad! Cigarette smoke has a way of getting into your clothes and hair leaving you with the lingering smell of stale smoke. And it’s not the pleasant smell of a burning wood fire, this is the smell of thousands of deadly chemicals burning and leaching from your clothes and hair.

Sometimes quitting smoking is hard, I found being able to vape flavours I enjoy really helped with my quitting journey. How I quit smoking was by finding a flavour I really loved such as Strawberry and Cream. After a week of vaping your sense of smell returns, and you notice how bad the cigarette smell really is.

3. Your Dentist Will Thank You

One of my biggest regrets is the damage smoking has done to my teeth. If you’ve seen my reviews, it’s hard not to notice that my teeth are badly stained from 24 years as a smoker. Smoking can cause a range of dental issues including mouth cancers. Professional teeth whitening can cost thousands of dollars and over the counter products often won’t remove the years of damage smoking has done to your teeth.

The Tar and Nicotine found in cigarettes is what causes the staining. Vaping e-liquids do not contain tar, and using nicotine is optional so teeth staining is far less likely to occur. I wish vaping had been an option twenty years ago, it would have saved me a lot of money on teeth whitening products.

4. Your Skin Will Look Better

Let’s face it, the damage from smoking can also be seen on your face.If you’d rather look your actual age instead of 20 years older, quit smoking now! Did you know that e-liquid contains a common ingredient found in many cosmetics? Propylene Glycol is used in hair care and skin care products, and even in the over the counter nicotine sprays found at the chemist.

I quit smoking three years ago and I’ve noticed a vast improvement in my skin. I’ve always been acne prone and would suffer from combination dry and oily skin. Since making the switch to vaping I have far fewer breakouts and my skin looks much healthier.

5. No more Smokers Cough

Every smoker dreads the common winter cold. Once that infection hit your lungs, it is usually months of coughing up yucky stuff while you contain smoke through the coughing fits. I remember walking up a short flight of stairs and wheezing and coughing by the time I reached the top.

Since I started vaping I’ve avoided nasty coughs that last more than a few weeks. Breathing has gotten a whole lot easier. And another great side effect of quitting smoking, I don’t get recurring nasal infections or hay fever.

After smoking for so long you don’t tend to notice the effects of smoking on your sense of taste and smell. Food would often taste bland, and I became desensitised to certain smells and flavours. Within 2-3 week of not smoking you’ll begin to notice a vast improvement.

One of the reasons I wanted to quit smoking was so I could enjoy baking again. I wanted to re-experience my favourite foods after years as a smoker. But, eating all that sugar isn’t great for the waistline. The alternative for me has been dessert vapes like Mamas Apple Pie from Vapoureyes.

I remember my shock one day when mum cleaned the walls of the house I grew up in. The walls weren’t yellow, they were white! Growing up in a house of smokers I became used to the second hand smoke and the stained walls. Smoking exposes children and pets to second hand smoke, but it also leaves some nasty stains on your furniture and walls.

If you decide to stop smoking and make the switch to vaping, you won’t have to deal with the stale cigarette smells or the stained walls any longer. Vaping indoors doesn’t come with as many issues as smoking. A thin greasy residue may appear on windows over time, but this is easily removed without needing to repaint your walls.

9. Save Yourself from Thousands of Carcinogenic Chemicals

There are over 7000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. Hundreds of these are known to be harmful, including such chemicals as hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia. Tobacco companies are still very coy about what exactly is added to their products. Some are arguably added to entice young smokers into lifetime customers.

White anti-vaping groups claim that flavoured e-liquids entice children, they are quick to forget that ingredients such as chocolate and vanillin were included in cigarettes for that very reason. E-liquid is made from 3-5 main ingredients; Flavouring, Vegetable Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Water, and Nicotine. These same ingredients are found in the foods we eat, and the products we consume.

The life expectancy of smokers is at least 10 years shorter than that of non smokers. We’ve known since the 90’s that smoking not only shortens your life but can also kill. Costs associated with smoking related illness costs Australia more than 6 billion dollars annually. Tobacco use in Australia is linked to 20,000 deaths each year. Of all the reasons to quit smoking, the risk to your life is the most important.

Despite numerous reports of vaping related illnesses and deaths last year in the US, no one has officially died from vaping e-liquid containing nicotine. These cases were directly linked to illegal THC cartridges that were purchased on the black market. The THC liquid had been mixed with an oil, Vitamin E Acetate, which caused a unique form of lipoid pneumonia. While the deaths sparked debate and fear in Australia, it’s important to note that not one single case of this illness occurred in Australia or in other countries around the world.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that quitting smoking will improve your overall health and increase your life expectancy by at least 10 years. There are many methods out there from quitting cold turkey, to medication over the counter smoking cessation products and, also vaping. It is important that you seek medical advice and make your own informed decision about the best method of quitting smoking for you.

In previous posts, I have mentioned that I am in a current social media kick. Scrolling through social media platforms has me wondering how I can be unique and “play” the system. My question today is how can I grow my business on social media? I had a few assumptions like creating a page, posting, and some tricks I learned from the previous articles I posted about. I decided to do some research so I can be smart about social media and use to towards a personal/business gain. I found an article called “how to promote your business with instagram”, and the article shares some excellent ideas.

After reading the article, I have learned some great ideas as well as refreshed my memory on some tips that I’ve known from the past. The article shares that using hashtags will actually boost your post by associating itself with topics users have searched for in the past. The article also shares that building trust and really connecting with every follower is a great way to build and promote your business. If you gain your followers trust, provide useful content, and have them reply to the posts, there will be a greater chance they will do some word of mouth marketing. This means that your followers might share posts with friends or family. The last tip the article shared about promoting your business is posting regularly with hashtags. Posting regularly will help ensure your followers see your posts, and will help abuse the instagram server’s algorithm. Posting regularly will also help show your followers that you are passionate, motivated, and active in your business.

Who would ever think that a small town Fourth of July celebration would be the best place to be? Last year we spent the holiday watching the fireworks go off over the Empire State Building. It was unforgettable, amazing, incredible, but the small town experience may be even better.

The Small Town Sense of Community

In a small town, where everyone knows everyone, it is easy to feel out of place. However, when you start talking to people they always make you feel welcome. Not only are you welcome, but their events are awesome because everyone gets involved.

We went to Sibley Illinois the day before the Fourth of July to find out about the fireworks display. A very nice lady told us all about the events they do every year, she even went out of her way to bring us a flyer. It gave a break down of all events with times and locations.

The events included:

Breakfast

Fishing derby

Parade

Softball game

Old fashioned children’s games

Frog jumping contest

Tractor drive

Knockerball

Bingo

Face painting

Bounce houses

Model airplane show

Live music

Fireworks

And more

Our campsite was in Gibson City about 15 minutes away. Since we are not early risers, the breakfast and fishing derby got skipped. I was excited for the parade though!

A Small town Fourth of July Parade

Not everyone loves a parade, but I enjoy them. It was my first time watching a small town Fourth of July parade too. The nice lady we met the day before told us that it would last half an hour to 40 minutes, which is perfect in my opinion. Especially on a hot summer day.

It starts at 11:30 AM and heads down main street. Some of the participants include Boy Scouts, firetrucks, a school band, and my favorite is the children with their bikes all decorated for Fourth of July. The kids got candy, cold bottled water, and even ice pops. After the parade more events follow at the park.

Games and More in the Park

Right away the children's games begin at Lake Park. I'm sure your kids will want to play them all like mine. They will win small prizes like bubbles, stickers, one game even has coins. These games are things like bean bag toss, basketball, and dig in the sand to find a prize, everyone gets something just to play.

Once everyone arrives after the parade they start the old fashioned games. These include games like:

Sack races

Three legged races

Wheelbarrow races

Egg on a spoon competition

Frog jumping contest

Knockerball

The older kids will have so much fun participating in these ones. It is great because all you have to do is show up and you can play. They even give out cash prizes to the first, second, and third place winners. Our youngest won first place in the frog jumping contest. Each round of games is divided up by age group.

You might be wondering what Knockerball is, I know I certainly was. This game consists of kids putting on a large inflatable ball basically and trying to knock each other down while wearing it. This is hilarious to watch and although my kids did not do well at this, they did it again and again.

Something for Everyone

This small town Fourth of July celebration provides all day entertainment for everyone. After the games end more fun begins. For the kids, bounce houses and face painting are available. My daughter had on her red, white and blue flag dress, so had to get her face painted with something patriotic. She chose the American flag to wear on her cheek.

If you aren't interested in face painting or bounce houses, don't worry they have events for you as well. In the park they set up tables where they hold rounds of bingo. This is available to all ages. It is $.25 to buy a card and cash prizes are given to the winners.

Not into bingo either? Well, maybe you will enjoy the model airplane show. We sure did. Several locals come with their planes, which they fly over the lake. It was really fun to watch them and they took time to answer questions about their hobby. My oldest son had plenty of them. You can tell they really enjoy it. Chris was happy to help one of them fix his plane too.

Small Town Fourth of July Entertainment and Fireworks Show

It's amazing how much entertainment Sibley Illinois fits into this day. After the games, bounce houses, bingo, and model airplanes finish, there is still more to entertain you while you wait for the main event, fireworks!

This year the Sweetwater Band played music starting at 6:30 PM. They played covers of some really great songs and even took requests if you had them. This is when people really start to show up. As the band plays the park fills up. If you don't want to show up until just before dark, don't worry there is plenty of room for everyone.

If you are looking for an amazing fireworks display, this is the small town Fourth of July experience you want to have. Not only do they provide an entire days worth of entertainment and events, they put on the best fireworks show you can hope to see.

They shoot them off right across a small lake. So you can get a great view from almost anywhere in the park or nearby neighborhood. Even though a lot of people come to the show, it doesn't feel overly crowded. Find a spot in the grass, sit back, and enjoy what just might be the best firework display in America!

Family Fun Small Town Fourth of July

We never even heard of Sibley Illinois before this, but we will never forget it now that we've been there. Traveling all over the country has opened our eyes to what a great country we live in. The small towns are what make it so great. People come together in small communities to do great things.

If you are ever in this area for Fourth of July you should definitely check out this small town. There is more going on here than I can go into in one article. I know that if you go you will have a great time. From the games to the entertainment to the fireworks, it's all fun. We had an amazing time. A Cricut Explore Air 2 machine,

Had been on my wanted list for a long time. I love making signs and do mixed media art projects. So a cutting machine like this would definitely help me accomplish a lot of different looks for my projects. Then, finally a few months ago, I ordered one.

Because of where I live, and access to craft stores like Micheal’s, is not that easy, I went with a package deal.

There happened to be a big promotion on and the package I ended up getting with the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine was only $10 more than the regular Explore Air, so it was a no-brainer to get the faster machine.

What I got with the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine

At the same time I ordered more cutting mats, and some vinyl samples.

These were all in the bundle with the machine, minus the extra’s! Isn’t it great?!

All in all it only took a couple of days to get to the pick-up point in town. I was very impressed, as usually things take forever for stuff to come to Canada. On top of all this: Free shipping and NO added taxes or duties. Cricut took care of all these charges!
