The Reclamation of Cowboy Carter
I admire Beyoncé’s artistry so much. She started off as an R&B artist and did it for so many years, but she never boxed herself into that genre. She took what she learned from R&B, and transformed it with the multitude of genres she’s performed in through the years. Ever so willingly to constantly change and grow with her artistry, always evolving and willing to prove naysayers wrong.
As an artist myself, I hate staying in one lane of my creativity. I like to explore, dive into different art forms and express myself however I see fit.
To be abstract and weird in what I draw/paint, to be melancholic and fantastical in my poetry/storytelling, to be sensual and exotic in my music, to be rebellious and evoke mystique in my fashion. Being niche and unique is my specialty even if my other interests are more mainstream leaning.
Beyoncé approached country music in her own way. You don’t HAVE to force yourself to fit into something the traditional way. To strip yourself to blood and bones, leaving behind the essence of who you are just to appease others. You’ve gotta approach everything you do with your own style. People will judge you for not fitting in… so fuck them, do your own thing.
