Celebrities who took part in the online frenzy of Kate rumours and conspiracy theories are apologising following the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis.

In a moving video released on Friday, Kate revealed that she’d been undergoing chemotherapy in the wake of major abdominal surgery in January, which led to cancer cells being found in subsequent tests.

At the time, Kate’s condition was not disclosed to the public, and the release of a photoshopped image of the princess and her children exacerbated the spread of conspiracy theories speculating on the reason behind her low profile.

Actor Blake Lively was one of the first to apologise for partaking in the frenzy, referring to a now-deleted post that seemingly poked fun at Kate posting an edited picture of her family for Mother’s Day.

Posting on an Instagram Story on Friday (22 March), the Gossip Girl star wrote: “I’m sure no one cares today but I feel I have to acknowledge this.

“I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy and, oh, man, that post has me mortified today. I’m sorry.”

The Age of Adaline actor had made an Instagram post announcing an update for her alcohol brand on 15 March, when she made a subtle nod to the photoshopped family photo.

Lively’s post showed a photo of her head conspicuously photoshopped onto a distorted woman’s body lounging by a pool, with one of her Betty Buzz drinks in hand. Seemingly poking fun at rumours over Kate’s whereabouts, Lively added in the post, “Now you know why I’ve been MIA.”

Journalist and political activist Owen Jones has also expressed regret for adding to commentary on Kate’s whereabouts.

After photo agencies pulled the photoshopped family picture, Jones remarked on the “kill notice” with: “I am so obsessed with this already omg!!”

Another post featured Jones sharing his scepticism about a photograph of Kate and Prince William in a car together. He wrote: “You have to be kidding me. That is not a public appearance. Choo choo! All aboard the Kate Middleton truther express!”

However, the journalist has now said he feels “ashamed” for the speculation, and wishes Kate well.

“As someone who speculated on this without considering it could be a serious health condition, I’m very ashamed to be honest, and all the very best to her,” Jones wrote in a post on X/Twitter.

In the week before, Kensington Palace had issued a photo of Kate and her three children on Mother’s Day. In an unprecedented move, photo agencies recalled the picture after realising it had been manipulated. Kate then addressed the edited image, writing on X/Twitter: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”

Meanwhile, fans have been calling on reality TV star Kim Kardashian to apologise for joining in the speculation about why Kate had been absent from public life.

On 17 March, the reality star posted a photo of herself posing in front of a luxury car, and captioned the post: “On my way to go find Kate.”

“After the news of her having cancer has been revealed, you should really take this down. It’s extremely insensitive and you owe our princess an apology,” one person commented on Kardashian’s post.

“Can you please go find an apology instead?? Added another.

On social media, fans have also asked British-American comedian John Oliver to retract a joke made during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

“There is a non-zero chance she died 18 months ago,” Oliver quipped earlier this month. “They might be Weekend at Bernie’s-ing this situation. I’m not saying it happened, but I’m saying it’s non-zero until proven otherwise. Until we see her sitting there with a copy of the day’s paper.”

Weekend at Bernie’s was a 1989 comedy film in which two people manipulate a dead body to make it appear as if he’s still alive.

Piers Morgan called out Oliver for his comments on X/Twitter after the announcement that Kate is receiving cancer treatment. He said: “I hope this smug p***k has the decency to apologise for such a disgusting ‘joke’.”

At the time of writing, neither Kardashian or Oliver have responded to criticism of their comments. The Independent has contacted them for comment.

The 42-year-old princess said on Friday that she needed to recover from surgery before she could start “preventative chemotherapy”, as advised by her medical team.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she added.

Kate explained she had needed time to come to terms with the news and tell her children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, before informing the wider world.

She said: “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.

“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Praising her husband as “a great source of comfort and reassurance”, Kate said: “It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.

“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.

“As I have said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”

I guess who first comes to mind next is Adaline from Age of Adaline. it’s one of my favorite movies and super underrated tbh. again akin to Dorian Gray, the movie plays on themes of immortality, much less in the vein of hedonism and much more in the vein of just trying to sneak by as an immortal in the modern era, and having to keep a certain distance from other people because you know they’ll grow old and die and you won’t. Blake Lively’s performance in this film is really stunning; she really brings such an ‘old soul’, melancholy vibe that I didn’t expect from her, and that really makes you believe the character.

ummmm Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle - also an inspiration for Syde, I even have a tiny Howl’s Moving Castle AU for him jskdlfg. I haven’t read the book yet but I’ve heard great things! I know book Howl is a bit different than movie Howl but I love the concepts of both. most of all I love that he’s a shameless coward and over the course of the story, with Sophie pushing him to be better, he gets a lil better about it. and I love the whole handsome mysterious prince charming type who’s Actually kind of a monster under that pretty face and rumored to eat people’s hearts etc - again the theme of beauty being dark and dangerous ohh la la~

I’ll also say Vash from Trigun, an anime no one has heard of anymore because I’m old. his character stuck out to me for a long time, and even after going back and watching again, him and the series were just as good as I remembered. he’s got this giant bounty on his head because he’s basically a living superweapon but like??? he’s a really sweet cheerful dude and no one who meets him can even believe he’s this badass wanted criminal or whatever. and he’s not faking, like. he’s super pacifist but people r trying to fight him all the time. his entire world is a post-apocalyptic shithole but he just wants to eat donuts and make people happy. that kind of attitude inspires my whole life, and bleeds into a few characters of mine too of course.

Personality

Jo is a very kind and caring woman whose had a rough run of it in the past and is trying to make the best of things. Her defining characteristic is that she really and truly cares for her people and will try her absolute best to help them and do the right things for them. She isn’t naive though and knows that people will try to use her for their own gain but she absolutely refuses to allow anyone else the opportunity to control or manipulate her narrative. She refuses to break and is not going to bend to demands that won’t benefit her people.

Ladies in waiting, especially ones who are progressive minded and want to do right by their people. I would loves ones that have similar dreams and want to start and run social programs with her, ones that are working behind her back, ones that perhaps are looking to social climb using her, and ones that are looking to help her make alliances or tear them down. Ladies who are progressive minded, and ones who are very traditional. Just all kinds of friends, essentially, to have at court.

The rest of her family, obviously. We have her and her twin Adaline so far. The Stonewards are the ruling family of Elysi and they’re fairly compassionate people but it would be cool to see members who have differing views and opinions and even want to sell her or her sisters (or brothers) off to be married. Also, the immediate family is listed but that doesn’t mean there can’t be other members like uncles, aunts, cousins, etc. Perhaps power hungrier people as well?

An adviser who she’d be able to toss ideas at, to come up with plans and programs for her people, and can basically be a bit of a book nerd with her. I would also love it if they were from somewhere else or had at least lived somewhere outside of Elysi.

Some of the soldiers she trained with would be nice as well.

History

TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE, ATTACK

For most of her life, Josefin had been capable of lighting up a room. Winning the hearts of a crowd and bring smiles to others’ faces came naturally. But her love of learning and literature is what truly drove her. She was kind as a child and though she tended to cast a golden light over any room, her happiness was best recharged whenever she was alone, reading a book from her massive collection.

That was how it started, in fact. Even in childhood, she wanted to share everything she had with her people. She would gather up books and toys to bring to the libraries and orphanages in Glasswater, constantly resupplying their shelves and bringing in new goods. Perhaps her philanthropic endeavors started there, but they only magnified over time.

She also had the best tutors and though her oldest brother would one day bear the crown, she perhaps had the brightest mind for politics. She devoured the knowledge and tutelage just as she always had, and as she grew older, whenever the Stonewards needed an ambassador, it was she who was sent to do most of the political maneuvering as soon as she was old enough.

At eighteen, just as all Stonewards were expected to, she was sent to their military forces to train alongside their foot soldiers. She’d learned swordplay and archery growing up but the military training was something different all together. And the missions they were tasked with were often brutal and fruitless.

It was then that she began having encounters with the rebellion. The ranks she was assigned to would often be tasked with going into a town and weeding out rebels, or defending a retreating village as rebels attacked and burned it down. Even then, she had hoped to one day understand them and compromise… to reason with them. But as the years wore on, it became clear that wasn’t going to be the case.

TRIGGER WARNING —————————————————————————- It was during one of those missions that her life and her entire outlook on people changed. Soldiers had been lost to the rebellion and new ones had always replaced them. Eventually, she found herself on a squad with only a handful of familiar faces, the rest were new, and were no one she knew from training. She’d always been able to make fast friends, though and thought little of it. After a night or two on a mission, they would all be brothers and sisters anyway. But as she volunteered to go on a scouting mission, three newcomers volunteered alongside her. That was perfectly fine though, by the end of the scouting mission, she’d have three new friends, she was sure of it.

What Jo remembers is those three men attacking her, claiming they were doing it for the rebellion, forcing themselves on her, and being left to bleed out in the woods.

When she awoke, she was back at camp, a healer standing over her, and a few very worried familiar faces sitting opposite her in the small tent. “Princess?” They asked over and over again, trying to get her to come to. “Jo!” One of the girls finally called and a small smile slipped to Josefin’s lips then. They recounted what they’d found on their own scouting trip after the four of them from the first group never returned. The three men who had attacked her were found dead, arrows through their necks, not a hundred yards away. They assumed she’d gotten into the fight with them as well but as there had been no signal, no sound, no one to warn anyone, they didn’t truly know what had happened.

It was the story Josefin stuck with, too ashamed with herself and what happened to tell the truth, and one she would still tell to this day. She would claim they’d run into rebels and the rebels had gotten the better of them and she’d been the last one standing. She would claim they then jumped her and beat her senseless as it sounded better than the truth of it all.

The reality was she’d been a target and the three men had thought they’d left her to die. The reality was they were too stupid to finish the job and had been taken out because the best sort of plan ended with leaving no loose ends. The truth was she was only saved by the face that they’d beaten her and raped her and she looked dead. And she was only saved because a second patrol had been sent when none of them had returned.

Since then, she has thrown herself into her work, and though she may shy away from betrothals and the idea of marriage and children, she knows she will one day have to face the fact that she’ll most likely marry for the benefit of her family. The thought of intimacy is terrifying though and she has worked her way out of a few betrothals for that very reason

Evelyn Sarah Fabray came into the world on September 4th in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Russell and Judy Fabray. As the Fabray’s first daughter, Evie’s primary responsibilities growing up were to be prim and proper. She was put as the example to the household. Every day, she practiced on the piano, studied French, and endured all the other activities in order to become a well-off young woman. Evie likes to plan her life, sometimes down to the last detail and is scared of losing control and taking risks, which sometimes stops her from following her heart.
