sunny being a spooky little guy in their first ever interaction :eyes:
actually y'know what this is basically at a ending point anyway and i've just been looking for an excuse to post it so. surprise sunny treat!
By Season 22, Day 70, Liquid Friend has more or less gotten reacquainted with the Vault. It and Plasma have dusted off their office and gotten it back in working conditions, said hello to their old friends, and reintroduced themselves to the people who have come here since they left. The Vault's gotten bigger since it was last here, but Liquid still knows its hallways like an old friend, and it knows all the people in here by name at least, if not more.
Which is why it's taken completely by surprise when it rounds a corner to see someone it's absolutely never seen before standing there, happily dusting a wall.
Liquid runs through all the people it knows of in its head. Obviously this is not Uncle Plasma. They are also obviously not Clare (although they do have little wings and a glowing, flickering halo), Parker, New Megan, or Fletcher. They could be Cote, maybe, since Liquid's never actually seen Cote, but that would raise a lot of other questions. Definitely not Nagomi. Not York. Not Chorby, Aldon, Goodwin, Pitching Machine, or Valentine. Not James Mora either.
Well, what the heck.
"Hey there, uh..." Liquid takes a slight step forward. The person(?) turns to face them with wide golden eyes. "I'm Liquid Friend. It's nice to meet you! Are you...lost?"
"Are you lost?" Liquid Friend's own voice says, and Liquid jumps, startled, and thinks for a second it was an echo, but one of the many strange things about the Vault is that it doesn't usually echo, and anyway that was far too pitch-perfect and crisp to have been a quirk of architecture, which means...
"Did you say that?" Liquid says, and this time it keeps an eye on the person so it can tell for sure— when their mouth moves, what comes out is Liquid saying "Say that?" A perfect echo.
Okay. That's a little creepy.
The person moves forward, towards Liquid. They're keeping one hand on the wall, Liquid notes— maybe for comfort? To keep from getting lost? For steadiness? They move like someone who's not quite used to having a body. Their hand leaves a bright gold streak behind it as they drag it along the walls— do they have wall polish on their hand, or something? (...Is wall polish a thing?)
The person stumbles a bit closer and then stops. They don't seem threatening, exactly, but Liquid's getting the willies for sure. It might be time to call in backup.
Liquid turns around and calls "PLASMA? THERE'S SOME KIND OF...HAUNTED BABY OVER HERE!"
Haunted Baby makes a startled yelping sound and Liquid looks back to see them stumble backwards a few steps, plastering themself against the wall, eyes wide.
"Oh no! Did I scare you? Was I too loud?" Liquid says, bubbling in distress.
"Too loud," echoes Haunted Baby, looking very betrayed.
"Aw, I'm sorry," Liquid says, kneeling slightly to be more on their level. It notes a couple interesting things about their appearance—same golden tint to their skin as the Replicas, the little halo and wings that look like a mimicry of a Legend, hair orange-brown but golden-tipped in a way it doubts is hair dye—but mostly focuses on the fact that they look, more than anything, like a frightened little kid. "I'll be more quiet now, promise. I didn't mean to scare you. It's okay. Do you need help? Are you– do you know where you are?"
Haunted Baby visibly brightens– as in, they look happier, but also as in their halo and wings glow slightly and, unless Liquid's mistaken, their eyes get brighter as well.
"The Vault," they say, in a voice that isn't Liquid's but seems like it shouldn't be theirs either, far too big for that tiny body and with an echo of its own, like the hallway itself is trying to amplify it, and it's Liquid's turn to rock backwards slightly, very startled and the tiniest bit afraid.
"Liquid?" Plasma's voice says, and Liquid finds to its great relief that the voice is coming from Plasma's mouth this time (inasmuch as Plasma has a mouth, anyway.)
"Plasma!" it says, scrambling back to its feet. "I'm so glad you're here." If it was possible for anyone to pinch Liquid, it might ask Plasma to pinch it to make sure it's not dreaming.
Plasma nods towards the tiny figure standing across from them, looking blissfully unaware of the mega-spooky thing they just did. "Is this the...Haunted Baby?"
"Haunted Baby!" chirps Haunted Baby, in Plasma's voice.
Plasma's expression doesn't appear to change much, but Liquid's known them long enough to know they're startled. "Ah."

snuuy + fika?
[nearly a month later] hiiii :)
fika (swedish): a traditional break from work usually involving a drink of coffee or tea. you should not discuss business matters, but chat pleasantly with your colleagues
"Parker!"
Parker glances up. It's hard to tell, but Sunny thinks she sees the trace of a smile on his face. "Hi, Sunny."
"I brought tea!" Sunny sits down cross-legged and carefully, slowly pushes the cup across the floor. They pause right before reaching the Force Field, and give it a little extra nudge so it slides through the barrier on its own.
Parker reaches out and picks up the mug, wrapping his hands around it. "It's warm."
"Yeah!" Sunny says. "I made it myself! In a kettle!"
"The Vault's letting you use the stove now?"
Sunny makes a face at Parker. "Of course! I'm not a baby, Parker."
"Right, of course." Parker takes a sip of his tea, savoring it for a moment before saying "You're what, a season old now?"
Sunny gasps in shock and insult. "I am not!"
Parker raises an eyebrow.
"…Season and a half," Sunny says. "But really, how old do I seem?"
Parker considers this for a while. It's hard to guess people's ages, especially in a game like Blaseball. He's been 19 for centuries. "Hm. 14?"
Sunny thinks this over for a bit before nodding thoughtfully. "Yes! I think you're right!"
"Nice," Parker says, taking another sip of his tea. "This is good. What's the flavor?"
"Honey lemon," Sunny says happily. "I'm glad you like it!"
"Do you like it?"
Sunny looks down at their cup and hesitates only briefly before attempting to lap it like a cat. It seems to go badly.
"Too hot?" Parker says, looking like he's trying very hard not to laugh.
Sunny looks deeply wounded. "Yes! Ow!"
"Try blowing on it first," Parker suggests. "And take small sips."
"Okay!" Sunny says, and proceeds to begin what is surely the most enthusiastic tea-cooling campaign ever embarked upon.
Before they try to drink their traitorous tea again, they glance back up at Parker.
He's smiling at them. Sunny beams back.

🍌 sunny.
oh youre just going straight for the throat here huh /pos
Banana: Have parts of your OC been lost to time (in-universe)? What do they wish they could lose from themselves?
hmmm. have parts of sunny been lost to time? i'm not sure. comparatively speaking, sunny hasn't had much time. and since they stay in a place where nothing changing is imperative, they also don't...change much
i have been thinking about sunny character arc, though, and i think the main thing is that they lose like...complacency? contentment? for a long time, sunny was the "everything's fine!!!! :D" guy because they genuinely believed it. the Vault did such a good job protecting them from anything that could hurt them and comforting/distracting them when they were hurt that they really didn't think there was anything that couldn't be fixed. but eventually they kind of lose that. i mean, everyone does eventually, right? it's hard, being a kid and growing up. it's hard and nobody understands.
also sunny saw the Replication process once and would like to remove that memory from their mind :)

SUNNYYYYYYY
in the future i won't read at night - So, according to SIBR witchery of a truly extravagant scale, if up to nineteen Wyatt Masons had been generated, the nineteenth would've had the pregame ritual "night terrors". Fucked up!
--
In her dreams, they are burning.
Everett Pate and Ronan Vargas and Owen Suzuki--in the waking world, they are Sunny's imaginary friends, or rather, he is theirs. He imagines himself alongside them, cheering Cote Loveless on as xie hits a home run or James Nolan as they steal home.
Here, they are burning, and there is nothing Wyatt can do to stop it.
She cries out, reaches out, begs them to run, to save themselves, to not revoke Parker again, to do anything to stop this from happening and to not leave her alone again.
It never works. Wyatt's friends crumble to ash and they're left alone, sobbing, clutching their Microphone and--
That's usually the point where Sunny wakes up, although it's sometimes hard to tell. After all, even awake, they're still alone.

friendship ask: 1/3/4, for sunny and your choice of vault dweller
HMMMMM fuck it. sunny and glover time :) thats right baby im bringing clover to tumblr!!!!!
(the glover i'm talking about here is my human wyatt glover attempt. they/them, bug enthusiast, Scrungled several times over, usually goes by clover or glove (rhymes with clove))
1: When I think they became friends (if canon already hasn’t showed how they became friends)
ummm pretty early into glover's time in the vault i think!! they were the first person to enter the Vault after sunny was created, so they were sunny's first experience with giving somebody the Introductory Spiel. sunny was also probably the first person glover actually saw in the Vault, because they kept meaning to leave their room and go explore and then they just kind of...didn't. and then sunny showed up to give them a tour!
3: A random headcanon I have of them
there's something about sunny that feels really familiar to glove, but they can't quite put their finger on what. their memory's been scrungled so many times as it is, and sunny doesn't look that much like.....
shoot. who were they just thinking of?
4: My favorite thing about them
ummm i just think theyre neat :) i like getting to feel somewhat justified in making two of my favorite characters friends!! also i think sunny becomes a bug fan because of clover which i also like. sunny needs interests that are Outdoors!!!! let this kid touch grass!!!!

okay here's my self-indulgent ask of the day. trip & sunny, toska and/or mokita
does it count as self-indulgent if i also really wanted to write about these two
mokita: a painful fact everyone is aware of but which–out of compassion–no one mentions
Here is what Sunny and Trip do talk about:
The kind of boredom that results from being someplace where nothing ever really changes, first and foremost but not for long. Sunny doesn't like the topic, and they'd rather find ways to stop it from being true then acknowledge it's true at all.
The places in the Vault where Sunny isn't allowed to go, and how to break into them.
The most exciting things to pet, and if exciting necessarily means enjoyable (it does not) (porcupines are not enjoyable).
The difference between live fish and raw fish (you don't eat live fish, they've got scales) and if Sunny would like raw fish (probably not).
The best foods to put hot sauce on (all of them).
History, most specifically prehistory teams. Sunny reads their names off from the library books. Which of them has the best slogan—Sunny loves puns once Trip explains them to her, and finds ‘Ball Hogs’ particularly clever. Trip thinks puns are stupid and that [FROGHORN SOUND] is the best slogan, mostly because when they try and imitate what they think a froghorn would sound like Sunny laughs so hard she has to lie down.
Here is what they don’t talk about:
The name Wyatt Mason.
The machines that made them, & the places that shaped them, & how they were made, & if it was right.
The cracks in Sunny's golden form.
The water constantly pooling around Trip.
(Sunny insists the water doesn't interfere with their Replicated form. There is nothing wrong with Sunny's form, and there is nothing strange about Trip's static-liquid, and as long as they both believe that they can keep staying close to each other.)
The look of hurt in Sunny's eyes when Trip zones out in that particular way that means they're talking to someone inside their head.
Where Trip is going when their form starts pixelating at the edges and they say "I have to go", and how much they hate having to go, and how much Sunny wants them to stay.
The way Sunny sometimes looks up at Trip as if they could do anything, wide-eyed wonder and expectations.
The things they can't understand about each other (why Trip doesn't love the place they came from, why Sunny loves the place they're trapped in, Trip's long moments of silence, Sunny's seemingly endless energy).
Here is what they can understand:
They don’t talk about these things out of fear, and out of uncertainty, and mostly because they don’t want to. Because it’s easier, and more comfortable, and just better to just be two siblings, time and space and static anomalies and less-than-ideal locations aside, and they’ve got plenty of time, so why waste it on things that hurt? Sunny has a blender, and Trip has several things that probably won’t blend, and that’s a much more enjoyable way to spend their time.

you don't have to be alone to be lonely, you might as well give in. the house wins
hello.....casts spell of makes you care about my little guy, wyatt "sunny" mason xix. fan-wyatt (yknow...from blaseball) who localized into the vault when max echoed ego++++. they just want to be loved and cared for by someone who is not a giant sentient building that can't give hugs and doesn't really know how to take care of sound-children
(closeup ver, with a written out ID, under the cut!)
Tumblr media
[ID: A digital drawing of a person sitting against a wall. They have medium gold-tinted skin and short, messy auburn hair with golden bangs. They are wearing overalls over a white shirt and pale yellow bowtie, and have one leg up and the other one crossed behind it. They are looking off to one side with a sad, tired expression. Their eyes are dark gold with tiny flecks of bright pink. They have a glowing yellow halo over their head and two small angel-wing shapes behind their back filled in with static. The wall and floor they are sitting against is entirely gold, and there are brighter yellow handprints smeared all over the wall around where they're sitting. End ID.]

hiiiiiii <3 snuuy + iktsuarpok?
iktsuarpok: a feeling of edgy anticipation that makes one keep looking out the window to see if an expected visitor is coming up the path
more information about wyatt mason xix, aka sunny
It's Day 47 when the first teams arrive in the Vault. Sunny's been around for a few individual people entering, and of course for the Semi-Centennial just last season, but this is...different.
The first ones to arrive on the Vault's step are the Carolina Queens, who Sunny's read of the history books that were their longtime companions. Sunny doesn't question it. It's not in their nature to question. It's in their nature to care and befriend and help, and so they do, they tell the Queens that the Vault's not quite ready for them yet but please just stay in this waiting room and I'll be right back, and then they run off to find Sosa Peperomioides and tell em that eir friends came to find em, and they smile as they watch the reunion.
And they don't have time to sit alone and wonder if anyone would ever come to find them, because the very next day the Atlantis Georgias arrive, and Sunny doesn't know them from books but knows them from patched-together memories and an ache in their heart, and they give Sunny odd looks as if she reminds them of someone, and that night Sunny huddles in her room next to the machines they don't know are PsychoAcoustics and they hope so much it hurts.
SAnd they hope, and they hope, and they hope, but no one else seems to come, for days and days, and the Georgias are barely even there because they still have to play, and they tell Sunny little snippets of what's happening outside but not nearly enough for them to understand anything. But he doesn't need to understand anything, he just needs to know one thing, and he keeps asking. Is anyone else coming to the Vault?
He never gets an answer.
There is rejoicing in the Vault when the Coin dies. Sunny does not understand this either, but they hide in a corner of the room and watch with wide eyes as the teams laugh and cry and dance together in the Vault's waiting room, and then she watches them turn to the Vault's doors and she sees the doors open.
And then the Vault creates a door right in front of Sunny and slams it shut and does not allow Sunny near the exits under any circumstances. Sunny didn't even know there could be exits to the Vault.
Not exits, she thinks. Entrances. For once, it seems no one wants to leave--they huddle inside the Vault, talking in hushed, anxious tones, calling other outside people to ask them where they are. Sunny wants to know what's outside, even if it's very very scary, and eventually the Vault makes them a strange, small window to gaze through.
Through it they can see blackness, mostly, and a few tiny streaks of light that get brighter and come closer--other teams, they realize, most of them glowing bright blue and ethereal and racing towards the Vault as if the darkness is chasing them.
The Georgias don't know what to make of it when the Vault's assistant (self-described. Some Replica, maybe, or an AI?) asks them, in a voice that sounds less like a pre-programmed assistance and more like a scared child, if they've ever heard of "Ivy". But they tell him yes, and that Ivy's on the Steaks now, and the Steaks are headed towards the Vault, actually, and before anyone can ask why Sunny is gone.
Sunny presses themself to the window and watches the Steaks navigate, straight and true, towards the Vault, and they're not going fast enough, and Sunny presses their hand to the window as if they could pull them through.
The Fireballs and the Immortals and the Whales and the Tigers and the Steaks all make it to the Vault at once, and the Vault is panicking and it needs Sunny, but Sunny needs something else more.
Sunny sees Ivy from a long hallway away, and recognizes them instantly even though they're standing in a crowd, and he collapses where he is and starts to cry.

i teetered for a while between yügen and saudade so whichever you think would be best for you with crux and snuuy, if you would indulge me- no rush, obvs!!!
hiii hii hi hi i hope i did crux justice i love the relationship these two have so much
saudade: a bitter-sweet melancholic yearning for something beautiful that is now gone / sunny & crux
(crux (xe/xim/xis) is wyatt mason xx, a noncanon wyatt mason who Localized into the hall. also xe's a catperson (this is unrelated to xim being from the hall.) sunny (they/he/she) is wyatt mason xix, a noncanon wyatt mason who Localized into the Vault. he is in a Replica body, and can leave the Vault, but only temporarily--eventually he Dusts and returns to the Vault.)
"Sunny?" Crux says, gently pushing open the door of what the Fricassees refer to as the Wyatt Beanbag Room. "Are you in here? I--" Xe stops upon finding the beanbag room empty, and the beanbag Sunny had been occupying now occupied only by a fine sprinkling of golden Dust.
"Ah," Crux says quietly. After a few moment's pause, xe steps forward to see if there's anything Sunny left behind.
There is. Papers are scattered around the beanbag, with a few crayons and pencils in the mix. Crux catches a glimpse of blue on one of them, and out of curiosity, picks it up.
It's a drawing, in a style that an art history expert might describe as "like if Greek pottery had been drawn in crayon by a 14-year-old". Still, though, it's recognizably Crux, blue hair, cat ears, pink eyes, and little firey scribbles all around xim. Crux--the non-drawing Crux--smiles and flips the paper over to see if there's any other drawings on the back.
There is not, but there's writing. In surprisingly elegant, though somewhat sprawling, cursive is written "this is Crux and xe is my big sibling. xis hair is kind of brighter blue and xe purrs sometimes when xe's happy."
Crux smiles and kneels down to get another one.
This one is covered in pictures, done with a surprising amount of detail, of various small flowers and grass. Or, well, probably grass. Mostly what it looks like is a lot of green scribbles. The back side reads “these are flowers and they are so pretty and absolutely everywhere. It’s like the Garden but smaller and it just keeps going and going forever and there’s no walls just like Jaybot said no walls anywhere”. The last few words are so large they’re practically spilling off the page.
Oh. Crux is suddenly, vividly reminded of when xe was first out of the Hall, a little overwhelmed and a little bit uncertain that it was all permanent and real. Writing all your memories down is...smart. Sunny's a smart kid.
Xe hesitates for a couple seconds before frantically gathering up as many papers as xe can, closing xir eyes, finding a brightly flickering frequency, and locking in.
Almost before the fire that comes with xir teleportation wears off, Sunny is hugging xim tight. Crux holds on to them until they stop trying not to cry.
Later, Crux helps Sunny tape some of their pictures up higher then they can reach, until almost the whole wall is covered in pictures. Before that, Sunny says through tears "It's not fair! How come getting to--do all these nice things just...just makes me feel more sad when they're over?" and Crux wishes xe had an answer.
(Eventually, of course, Crux will have to leave. Xe will kneel down to look at Sunny, clutching a few of his papers close, and tell him what MaX told xim when xe was still very new to the living world and afraid of getting lost: "I'm your big sibling, right?")
(Sunny will nod so hard she nearly hurts her neck.)
("Right. And you know what that means? It means,” (Echo. MaX.) “I’m always going to come back and find you. Okay, Sunny? I promise.")
