This show is long overdue!!! It has been a long time since his last show. In case you aren’t familiar with him, Blek le Rat paved the way for Banksy stenciling on the street when hardly anyone was aware of street art.

IMPRIME Y DESTRUYE: ACERCA DEL STREET ART

La cotidianidad del entorno urbano hace que la gente asuma las calles como algo monótono. Pero hay una corriente encargada de darle a esos colores apagados del concreto dañado un segundo aire mediante la creatividad.

 Cualquier lugar puede ser el lienzo de un artista y las paredes citadinas no son la excepción. Iniciado en los años 90, el Street Art engloba todo concepto de arte en la calle, como carteles, murales o stickers.

Aunque sustentado en el grafiti (y muchos erróneamente podrían afirmar que lo es), tiene características que lo hacen un movimiento aparte y todo partió de la mano de artistas callejeros que buscaban algo más, una forma de expresión visual que tuviera un trasfondo social.

Se empezó por cambiar los aerosoles de lata por acrílicos, pinceles, rodillos y esténciles probando diferentes técnicas como el realismo, la abstracción o el cubismo. El propósito no era solo ocasionar un impacto estético, sino también transmitir una idea o pensamiento.

Abordando el tema de ideología, el Street Art puede ser un excelente medio para fijar posturas políticas o de inconformidad y no es sorpresa que la mayoría de los artistas de este rubro como en el caso de Shepard Fairey, uno de los grandes exponentes de la industria, use elementos del cartelismo y los colores para mostrar sus ideales.

Además de aquellos enfocados temáticamente a la política como Fairey, hay otros que destacan por sus feroces críticas a la sociedad moderna como Blek le Rat, quien es un experto en el uso del esténcil y las tintas en blanco y negro, combinando figuras retóricas como la personificación o los eufemismos.

Una simple pared nos puede hacer pensar de nuestra sociedad y sus problemáticas. Aquella combinación sentimientos y creatividad nos ha demostrado que también las calles hablan y hoy en día tienen mucho que decir.
