Happy day 10 of TF Rare Pairing Fest!! I hope you've all been enjoying Percy's rotating harem of boyfriends, because I was also asked to write Blurr/Perceptor and that’s what you’re getting today. For the prompt "Butterfly" <3

“Hey, Percy?” asks Blurr, breaking the silence and consequently shattering Perceptor’s focus for the fifth time in as many kliks.

Resisting the strong urge to comm a security guard and request that Blurr be removed from the premises on the basis of being a metal shard in his side, Perceptor lowers his datapad and stares down Blurr. “What?”

Blurr wilts a little at Perceptor’s frosty tone, but he squares his shoulders and keeps talking anyway, his ever-present irritating grin on his face. “This place is really nice. How’d you end up working here?”

“I was recruited to assist in species inventory and identification.” Perceptor ticks off the last box on his checklist and swipes to the next page, walking towards the next room. Blurr scrambles after him, and a distant part of Perceptor’s processor notes that it’s rather funny to see the world’s fastest bot running to keep up with him. “The current categorization system is horribly inefficient.”

“Oh. That’s, uh. That sounds pretty bad,” says Blurr as he follows him. “Did they call you up because you’re an expert in this field?”

“Not particularly,” says Perceptor. “I assume I was contacted because of my extensive general knowledge of offworld organic fauna.”

The two of them emerge into an enormous, brightly-lit enclosure that smells strongly of organic soil. Sunlight streams in through the glass roof, glittering against the lush green crystal trees and imported Earth plants growing in abundance. A steel bridge embedded with decorative stone pieces winds through the artificial forest, inviting visitors to continue strolling inside. In the distance, Perceptor can hear the merry bubbling of the water fountain spilling over fields of grass.

And throughout the entire room, thousands of cyber-butterflies and organic butterflies flap freely, filling the room with their distinct buzzing and unique patterns in a canopy of vibrant colours.

hey, saw your thing about drabbles. *IF* you're interested (and don't force yourself to write something you won't like! today is not the day for negativity, so just lemme know privately if you don't wanna write it, I won't mind at all), I could use some fluffy G1 or TFA Blurrceptor being sweethearts.

Here’s some TFA Blurrceptor for you!

"Lay still." Perceptor commanded. "We are supposed to be performing an examination of your Sigma ability."

Blurr snorted. "My Sigma ability is speed you can hardly perform much of an examination on it when I stay still and anyway you know your 'I use a vocal voice synthesizer, I have no emotions' act doesn't fool me I know why you called me here."

"I have no conception of what you are speaking," Perceptor said, deadpan. "I called you to the laboratory for a scientific investigation into your spark's resonance with a dimensional fold that my esteemed colleague labeled the 'speed force'. Will you be still, or will it be necessary to restrain you?"

"I love it when you get kinky Perceptor but I don't want to be restrained today, I see you have all your scanners on now get on the slab with me and and we'll do the 'science', c'mon I know how much you like the data you get when I'm all heated up and writhing under you..." Blurr scooted to the edge of the table and reached out for Perceptor, sliding his hands under his shoulder kibble to caress the softer plating inside, while his toe tips slid over the dials at Perceptor's knees.

Perceptor's engine rumbled in response to the warm vibrations of Blurr's touch. "The manner in which you --" the synthesizer paused for a moment as Perceptor lifted his hands to Blurr's waist, holding on. "Transmit your spark heat to adjacent, compatible mechanisms does indeed merit considerable study."

"Yes, yes, lots of study," Blurr agreed, wrapping his arms and legs around his lover as he hoisted them fully around the berth. "You do have all the scanners set up right, because I'm going to be on another mission way too soon and I don't want you getting bored while I'm gone?"

"Of course they are set up," Perceptor insisted. "Move us .023 mechanometers to the left, and 0.014 upward for a better scan."

"Of course," Blurr said, making the necessary adjustments with a speed and precision that went straight to Perceptor's spark -- or perhaps it was the way the tip of Blurr's pede was rubbing against Perceptor's aft.

Perceptor shunted the analytical subroutine aside. There would sufficient time to analyze data at a future time time, when it would not contaminate the current experiment -- nor interfere with sensory data accumulation.

He pressed his mouth against Blurr's and for half a megacycle, there was nothing but warmth and pressure.

It took him until his second data analysis pass to realize that some of those pleasurable vibrations had been Blurr saying "I love you."

it's funny, looking through you and your girlfriend's blog (i hope that isn't weird!) it seems like you guys are complete opposites in terms of interests and temperament, and yet you still have so much affection for eachother. i kind of wonder what you guys see in eachother?

i mean, i don’t think it’s terribly strange when they’re public blogs?

it is, however, kinda strange to think you can see the full scope of someone’s relationship on their blogs, though. no offense anon but most of our talking does not happen via tungle and there’s no way you could get the full picture (nor should you)

(cut for length, which doesn’t seem to work on my blog atm. i’ve been trying to fix the code for that bear with me)

anyway, jolt ( @adhd-blurr​ ) and i met and initially bonded over transformers (blurrceptor in particular), so there’s that as far as shared interests go! we ship a lot of other things together as well, which is a lot of fun

and hey, my mum and dad don’t have that many interests in common (to simplify by a lot, mum quilts and watches the animes, and dad does gaming and computer stuff) and they’ve been together for over 25, maybe even over 30 years. they’re still married! they share a few connecting interests that they can spend time together over (like movies!), they have complementary senses of humor, and they just plain love each other and want to be together. you don’t have to share all your interests with someone; it’s really okay if you don’t. people grow, interests change! no one will be into exactly the same things and only those same things forever. even if it’s just minor interests shifting or new cool things that you like, but your partner(s), not so much. it’s okay not to like all the same things as your partner(s)

i mean, hell, i’m not really a dog person and @ive-officially-lost-my-sanity​ (my qpp!) is still a massively important part of my life despite dogs being his Main Thing. and he’s not terribly into transformers, either, so there we are

besides, it’s nice to hear someone you love talking excitedly about their interests, even if you don’t know much about that interest yourself. and hey, you can learn things! it’s fun!

as far as my girlfriend and i on the subject of temperament… i don’t really think we’re as “opposite” as you think, anon. maybe somewhat contrasting, sure, but y’know. i don’t really believe personalities can even be opposites, considering how multifaceted people are!

and then to answer what i see in her… i’m really super terrible at describing people in words (sorry!), but i’m gonna try.

jolt is one of the sweetest darlings i’ve ever met. she’s a generous, charming person, an absolute ray of sunshine some days—and she’s positively adorable, good grief. she’s fantastically creative and i love seeing what she comes up with. she just plain makes me happy to be around, y’know? she makes me laugh, which is super important. and maybe i’m weird, but i like some of the things that she does/says that maybe other people wouldn’t. i genuinely don’t think i actually mind anything about her?

i don’t feel comfy going into any more detail on the wide-open internet because a lot of stuff is personal/private and i don’t wanna accidentally betray any unspoken confidence. being with her makes me wanna try and be more mindful, y’know? and there it is

but as for what she probably sees in me… she has informed me that i’m very patient and understanding and that my rambling is cute, among other things

also i don’t demonize her for things she can’t control. ahem, assholes.

Who is the most affectionate?

once Perceptor initiates contact, Blurr is all over him. so it’s Blurr, but not if Percy doesn’t seek out the attention first.

Big spoon/Little spoon?

honestly a lot of my ships don’t even spoon. these two sleep face-to-chest; whose face is in whose chest varies from night to night but more often than not Percy is the one with a face full of windshield.

Most common argument?

if Blurr is physically capable of doing x thing or not. (4/5 times Perceptor is right and it’s literally physically impossible. there is no way to break the speed of light on Cybertron, Blurr. I don’t care if you did it in the empty void of space. there is air resistance here.)

Favorite non-sexual activity?

probably stargazing or curling up together to read something <3 Percy is faster than Blurr at exactly two things: reading and mental calculations. so Blurr gets to turn the pages when they read together.

Who is most likely to carry the other?

Blurr! although Perceptor is totally capable of carrying Blurr as well, usually it’s Blurr who sweeps Percy off his pedes. at very high speeds. (Percy gets used to suddenly not being where he was before.)

What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Percy is quite fond of Blurr’s everything from the waist down. Blurr is very well-built, from a function point of view, and Percy appreciates his build for more than just the aesthetics and sex appeal (which there is plenty of also).

Blurr likes Percy’s smiles the best. :’)

What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

Blurr gets really resolute about, well, not getting cozy with Percy, because the guy’s got no emotions, right, that is one hell of a dead-end crush.

but then… Percy realizes the personality subroutines that he deleted have been slowly reestablishing themselves in a broken, jury-rigged sort of way (because what he deleted is only the connection between spark and processor for emotions to travel along and be registered, and his spark has never stopped feeling). and he just has this moment of abrupt horror because what will this mean for his career? after like 3 cycles he realizes that with the war over he’s not as busy as he once was anyway, and he’s been upgraded so many times that even with his emotions back there is plenty of space in his processor for science still, so he calms down about that particular hiccup pretty quickly.

and then he sees Blurr again later on and something snide that Blurr says makes Percy laugh so hard he literally falls over and they’re both kind of really stunned by this (understandably so!) and Percy just kinda apologizes for his lapse in self-control, excuses himself very hastily, and goes to go fret because why is he reacting so much more strongly to Blurr than to his scientific colleagues who logically he should be much more fond of

and he realizes he has a massive thing for Blurr and kinda has a crisis of identity for a while tbh. of course he doesn’t know about Blurr’s thing for him so he does his best to stifle it until he finds out from someone else (the Jet twins) that Blurr is… pretty clearly smitten with Percy if you can make him ramble on that topic. so Percy confronts Blurr, very, very bluntly—and the relationship starts, yay!

Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

Percy/Perce for Perceptor, of course. Blurr is just Blurr.

although sometimes, when they’re alone, Percy calls Blurr dearspark, and Blurr positively melts.

Who worries the most?

Blurr, probably. he’s still dealing with the trauma of Shockwave crushing him into a fucking cube, plus he also just overthinks everything. Percy is used to looking at things in a very level-headed and factual way and is good at calming Blurr back down when he’s anxious about something. :’)

Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

Perceptor knows every one of Blurr’s usual orders, and Blurr knows Percy’s one order, so… both of them

Who tops?

Percy, about 60% of the time. Blurr gets his world totally taken apart and put back together again.

Who initiates kisses?

they trade, but usually it’s Blurr who initiates ‘proper’ on-the-mouth kisses because he’s taller. Percy has to haul Blurr down by the shoulders to reach for that so he usually sticks with kissing Blurr on the jaw.

Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

believe it or not, that would be Perceptor. Blurr is very respectful of Percy’s boundaries and knows that Percy doesn’t want to be glommed on when he’s working on something difficult, whether it’s just in his processor or otherwise.

Who kisses the hardest?

Percy. and it blows Blurr’s mind every time.

Who wakes up first?

Blurr! he has to get up and Go

Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

Percy’s processor takes a while to pull every function back online after a deep sleep so he just lies there until everything is in working order

Percy does. he sends Blurr a daily affectionate comm because he likes schedules and one time instead of all these other sweet kinds of things he’s been saying it’s just “I love you” on his way into a big important council meeting that was just called all of a sudden to deal with Sentinel’s bullshit

Blurr almost has a spark-attack. he doesn’t believe he really just heard that at first. then he replays the comm over again like 8428753 times.

Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

Percy leaves little reminders about things he or Blurr has scheduled for that day.

Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

Percy just kinda casually mentions Blurr—but not by name, no, but as “my consort”—and Wheeljack is like? come again?? so Percy clarifies like “Agent Blurr, my consort.” and Wheeljack is like 8| well, that was unexpected!

What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

they’re surprised, of course, but really supportive!! Percy’s colleagues are glad to see him back to himself again and glad to see him happy. Blurr’s colleagues are kinda like holy shit you wooed the guy with no emotions so well his emotions came back? damn, son!

(that’s not actually why his emotions came back; it was just conveniently timed. but anyway. :’D)

Percy for sure. cooking is a science as well as an art, you know. (although they both cook better with the other there to help them.)

Blurr, probably. Percy is just… blunt as fuck

neither of them really does this, they’re both pretty work-oriented and good at keeping their processors on the job

unless Sentinel is jabbering. in which case Percy, who finds Sentinel most frustrating, will comm Blurr with some sarcastic remark and Blurr almost dies trying not to laugh

Who needs more assurance?

believe it or not, I think this would be Percy! after his emotions come back he uses his real vocalizer sometimes. a synthetic vocalizer that uses less energy and processor power is great and all but he doesn’t want to be impersonal with his kids.

What do they do when they’re away from each other?

normal stuff. Percy is head of the Ministry of Science and Blurr is a high-level special agent with Autobot Intelligence so like?? they’re busy a lot

Thank you so much for the response! I get it - I have been pining for a spy-focused IC fic of the two of them, one where Blurr would be suspicious of Longarm's slips - but the fandom doesn't want to deliver and I haven't had the focus for longfic. --

Second, I must know: (i smell angst) - how does Blurr/Perceptor get around the deleted emotions thing?  Also hi I’m basically being nosy because someone who enjoys IC Blurr more than moe victim Blurr! ^^;;

you’re quite welcome! :) that is a fascinating idea. hmm. I might want to play with that, if you don’t mind, as a separate experiment from the way I’ll be playing their interactions in Loyalty for Sale…

and, uh… idk if I’d say it’s really that angsty…? @adhd-blurr​ and I have been slowly roleplaying it out (hi, I’m Percy! *waves*) and the headcanon I’m going with is basically a very specific and possibly overly-technical interpretation of what Shockwave said about him in the Almanac:

key words: most, subroutines

basically my interpretation is that he deleted the subroutines of “extraneous” emotions, and left wholly intact the ones that assist with scientific research and discovery (curiosity is the big example that comes to mind!).

and as for the SUBROUTINES part… the definition, when I Google it, is “a set of instructions designed to perform a frequently used operation within a program.” instructions. the subroutines that Perceptor deleted ARE NOT HIS EMOTIONS THEMSELVES. THEY ARE THE PROCESSOR CODES THAT ALLOW HIM TO INTERPRET AND FEEL THOSE EMOTIONS.

emotions are felt at the spark level. there are subroutines designed to make sense of the emotions a bot feels up in their processor – kinda like the parts of the human brain that interpret the light that our eyes take in, so we can actually see! without these subroutines, a bot’s emotions exist, but they are not EXPERIENCED.

and that is the state Perceptor is in, according to my headcanon.

and then, after his processor has been through a series of heavy-duty upgrades over the course of the war, once he has room again, and once a good defrag kicks off the process… his emotional subroutines start cloning themselves from those that do still exist, in haphazard, jury-rigged sorts of ways, and they reestablish themselves.

Perceptor starts to feel again.

due to roleplay plot reasons he’s around Blurr quite a bit at the time, and… well. Blurr infodumps at high speeds, which is Percy’s favorite way to take in information (a lot, and all at once). Blurr is a fantastic example of form built for function that is also very aesthetically pleasing. also Blurr just plain warms up to Percy because Percy doesn’t need him to repeat 90% of what he says, so then he’s friendlier. oh, and he’s snarky, too. Percy is basically doomed, as far as attraction goes

and then Percy is just plain cute, especially when he starts emoting again, and there’s also that thing about not needing Blurr to repeat shit, so there goes Blurr, too.

YES TFA is the greatest and Blurrceptor in that universe sounds great! Do you have any headcanons as to how they met and how things might play out between them at first? …y’know, I wanna say they properly met the first time for something relating to experimental tech for use by Intelligence field agents (IE Blurr), or maybe something to do with Blurr’s speed ability?

anyway, I bet at first they’re, like… uncomfortably professional and brief with each other, what with Blurr running at 2x speed minimum at all times and Percy being the emotionless, blunt scientist and all. just, like, Blurr comes in, they do whatever Science needs doing, and then Blurr is gone in like 0.3 seconds after they’re done with business. I think it’s likely that it takes a number of visits (for the repair/testing of tech stuff? as well as Blurr making Intelligence reports to the council, perhaps…?) before they both (Blurr first) start to realize oh no, he’s cute.

I imagine Blurr being really determined to ignore his crush because, dude, this is the guy who deleted his emotions, of course it’s not going anywhere. and anyway, he’s away on missions all the time, so why bother trying to get into a relationship?

but then Percy has that epiphany of something along the lines of I am experiencing an emotional reaction and desire for attachment and he gets flustered in that way where he gets even more curt with Blurr, probably. and Blurr’s not dumb, right? he’s perceptive (forgive me) and I think he’d notice the change in behavior and confront Percy about it.

so Percy pulls out a Suspiciously Specific Denial, Blurr sees right through it, has an omg moment because wow he didn’t expect Percy to like him, and probably comes up with an acceptable arrangement for them to try dating completely on the spot. and y’know, even though Blurr’s away a lot, Percy is busy with science a lot, so that’s fine, and they settle into an amicable sort of routine, probably.

and then Blurr gets crushed into a cube and Percy is a lot more beat up about it than he’ll ever admit :)))) (but it’s okay, Sari fixes him.)

and yes. yes, G1 Blurrceptor would be the cutest ship ever. I bet they have the most long-winded conversations. they go for lunch and it runs into dinnertime but no one can bring themselves to scold them for missing shifts because. they’re just too cute.

okay so first of all no problem, really! that anon was really rude :\ you handled it really well imo

as for Blurrceptor... I’m TFA trash, so I was initially thinking Animated (I did a TFA shipping meme and it occurred to me while I was doing the meme... I’m helpless to crack ships honestly), but I could swing it for G1 as well (adorable stuttering/rambling baby sweethearts! aaaaah!!! <3). I’m sure IDW could also work, prolly. but alas, I still haven’t managed to get my claws on the comics, so I just don’t know for sure, I’m afraid.

but anyway, Animated for sure. I don’t buy the permanence of Percy deleting his emotions. sure, so he did delete them from his coding according to the canon, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t resurface---because emotions are something spark-level. and maybe I’m a loser for it but I just. I would like them both to be in healthy relationships please and thank you Mr. Primus sir (unlike a certain very popular Blurr ship I shan’t name. I’m sure you know which one. I can’t stomach the popular interpretation of it.)

also maybe this is weird but I’ve been too scared to say it anytime else in the past 2+ years I’ve been thinking it. BumbleBlitz is A++ and I really look up to you for getting the attention to that ship that you did. I’m not doing nearly so well with SwindleShock myself, but (and I hope this isn’t awkward) your huge accomplishment with BumbleBlitz is kind of an inspiration to me to not give up on my weird accident of an OTP :’)
