2 Negrense fishermen rescued in Zamboanga return home
#PHnews: 2 Negrense fishermen rescued in Zamboanga return home
BACOLOD CITY – The two fishermen from Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, who stayed adrift at sea for five days and were later rescued off the coast of Zamboanga del Norte, were able to return home on Thursday.
They were identified as Alex Alagao, 72, and Rico Norquia, 52, both residents of Barangay 5.
Executive Assistant Dionilo Bogtae, the city’s head for Public Safety and Sipalay Emergency Assistance and Rescue Services, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that he picked up the two from the Philippine Coast Guard Station in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The fishermen arrived at the station from Zamboanga del Norte at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, said Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of PCG-Negros Oriental.
Bogtae was able to talk to Alagao and Norquia over the phone after they were rescued by fellow fishermen in Barangay Balagunan, Siocon town on Monday afternoon.
They went fishing aboard the pump boat “Bestfriend” on the afternoon of Feb. 17 and the following day, they informed the local disaster unit that they encountered engine trouble about five nautical miles off the coast of Sipalay.
The planned rescue operation in the afternoon of Feb. 19 was hindered by strong waves and rough seas due to the incoming storm.
Alagao and Norquia stayed adrift and tried to survive with limited food supply until their damaged fishing boat was swept towards the shore of Zamboanga del Norte on Feb. 22. (PNA)

History of the Ancrillian and Maletonian Races
According to a legend passed down by the Elders, the Ancrillians were placed on Malifor by the Bogevs, as they are referred to in Ancrillian. Today the Bogevs are referred to as “gods”. It is said that in the realm overlooking Malifor, Nebi, the Bogevs, led by their ruler Vesha, created eight Ancrillian men and eight Ancrillian women from clay and placed them on Malifor. Vesha, using only the Bogevs’ powerful language, gave them life with one word, ”Presnu!”. The Bogevs watched over their creation from Nebi for over 300 rotations until Vesha joined them on Malifor.
The first Ancrillian male, Ethadam, received wings and a magical staff named Prakran from Vesha, which gave their race a vast knowledge of this fresh new world. Ethadam, alongside his creator, created the vast city of Anera. Ancrillians, mostly those of royalty descended from Ethadam, also had wings.
Prakran contained the knowledge of the Bogevs, and was believed by the gods to never be fully understood by the Ancrillian race. After many rotations, Sia, Ethadam’s wife, caught the attention of the mighty Vesha. His admiration for Sia turned to love and soon after, to lust. During the night of the first red moon Vesha entered Sia’s chambers and, using the powerful Bogev language, hypnotized her. Sia’s clothes were removed and on the first touch of her skin he foresaw that she was with twins. Her mate Ethadam stormed into her chambers weilding Prakran, cursing his creator with the language of the Bogev to never return. Before he finished uttering the sacred words, however, Vesha cursed the children within the womb. Vesha has been locked in Nebi ever since that day; as long as Prakran exists in its entirety and there is no master of the Bogev language, Bogta, he can never return.
The children in Sia’s womb were born different from the Ancrillian. Their physical features were more plain and, as time passed, their intellectual inferiority came to light. These new children were nowhere near the equivalency of the Ancrillians. Ethadam gave them both the name of Maleto. Try as they might to teach the children, the curse was too strong. They never learned to speak, write, or communicate in any way. This enraged Ethadam and he vowed to somehow save his children. The two Maletos procreated together and bore over twelve children. During that time, Ethadam used Prakran to study Bogta and master a verse that would save his children and grandchildren. The verse he mastered was this:
Janin wa gei na jia wa day haja
Na day shaka ya sha quo
Na day ya jadi
Tay wa reka nan ha ni
Hen lo na day za dicho dao ewit
Yo janin wa haja wa gei na jia
Today I give you life my children
Your voices will speak truth
Your minds will think
Hear my words sons and daughters
Too long has been your exile from this world
So today my children I give you life
To the ruler’s surprise, his verse did not work. He pressed onward, though, and chanted all throughout the night. It is said that the great master shouted his powerful verse forty-six times. Finally he succeeded in his endeavor, and his children and grandchildren’s abnormalities disappeared. This new race became known as the Maletonians. Everything they knew and felt was passed down in some way from the mystical Ancrillians. Their ancestors taught them smithing, magic, medicine, politics, and farming. The relations between the Ancrillians and Maletonians were great until a war caused the two races to cease their friendship. The great King Ethadam died in rotation 422. The next kings were Adal 422-1067, Ratil 1067-1813, and Yutrik 1813-2493.
From 349- 2496 the races were in complete harmony. Once the Ancrillian Novi took power in 2493, he sought a woman to wed as his queen. He found that his heart desired that of a noble woman of Pintura named Hania, but an interracial relationship had never been seen before. Elders from the Council did not approve and ordered that her father command her to end the engagement. They feared losing the trust of their parent race if this girl was to displease Novi. Hania followed her heart and continued to see Novi, and by 2494 they were married.
Novi and Hania’s wedding was the greatest spectacle ever seen in Malifor, and soon after Hania became pregnant with her first child. This enraged Vesha in Nebi because he believed his race was too perfect to be tampered with by Ethadam’s creation. From the great realm of Nebi he shouted, “Bedstivi”, meaning “plague”, to bring a mighty sickness to Malifor and wipe the Maletonians out completely. His voice was so strong that his use of Bogta tore a hole through the plane separating the realms. The hole shines light from Nebi twelve hours a day and is too strong for Maletonians to bear during the months of Jakras and Til due to the immense light and heat for such extended periods of time. Before the hole, now referred to by Ancrillians as the sun, was opened, the bright light of Vesha had illuminated all of Malifor through the plain. The plague Vesha sent gave the Maletonians a terribly high fever and sores. Thousands died during the plague, and Hania was among the sick. Using the Prakran to study the Bogta, he devised a versed that he believed would counter the mighty god’s Bogta.
Zai Jeli jujo
Zai Jeli hen Zisha ha Tongki
Bogev ken wa
Wa bi na hen shaya
Chinja ha Chun
 Cursed is this place now
Death and suffering is all that his here
The gods are my witness
I shine brighter
Clean and purify
As opposed to Ethadam’s humility, Novi sought to boast to the evil god Vesha by including the verse, ”Wa bi na hen shaya”. His pronunciation was rushed and incorrect, which caused millions of puncture marks on the darkness of the west side of the plane of realms. In Malifor the night’s sky forever shows the sign of that Bogta verse.
Fortunately for the Maletonians, the verse worked in time to cure many of them, though thousands died. Henia was cured and soon gave birth to their first son, Jagta.
Soon after his birth, Henia debuted Jagta in Pintura. The Pinturans presented the queen with a series of games that the local Maletonian men would play. The winner, under the queen’s agreement, would receive one dance with Henia. A young man of only twenty-four named Fronok competed in the games and defeated the champion wrestler from Likorel, winning the competition. Before the match, his friend had encouraged him to beat the wrestler and obtain the dance with the Ancrillian queen. His words in Ancrillian were “Janal Tepel”, or “Happy Luck”.  Fronok beat the fighter without any undue strain. Later that night, Henia and Fronok had their dance as the kingdom looked on. Both were extremely attracted to one another, but neither showed it until later in the night. Fronok snuck to the queen’s chambers and seduced her.
The affair went on for almost a rotation when a handmaiden told Novi about them. Novi confronted and challenged the young man to a match. The Ancrillian king beat young Fronok in a two hour match. In the month of Til, two days after the fight, Hania learned she was pregnant yet again. She snuck out of the kingdom later that night and met Fronok along the Vigril River just northeast of Pintura. They awaited the arrival of their child in a cave by the beach that has since been called the Buka Rashi, or the Unforgiven Cave.
Upon learning of his wife’s disaperance, Novi sent his best riders to find his wife, but he never saw her again. He used the Prakran to study the Bogta to cast a spell on Fronok.
 Na jisu wa
Wa sinza jujo na
Na day nan ha ni
Yonyun geng duo
Na day shia jujo
Yonyun geng duo
 You ended me
I now curse you
Your sons and daughters
Forever more
Your blood is cursed
Forever more
During the birth of the child, the curse revealed its true form. The child was the first Demnal. The Demnal are ferocious and resemble beast more than man. The birth of a beast was unbearable for Hania and she died during the process. Fronok pleaded to the Bogev named Salakel. After six days Salakel made his way to the realm of Malifor and helped young Fronok. He promised to revive Hania if Fronok would give him an army. Fronok agreed. Salakel removed the clothes from Hania’s body and his own Bogeshian robes and began his ritual. During the process that Salakel called Nikrofel, Hania gasped for air and begged for drink. Her thrist was quenched with a vial of Salekel’s blood. Her eyes turned blood red and she grew teeth sharper than a janishuk. She became the first Vampire. Salekel finished the Nikrofel and requested only a vial of Fronok’s blood to make an army. The evil Bogev went into the night to over 100 maidens’ chambers to plant his blood seed. Demnal children were born all across the lands. Salekel gave them their voice, the language of Demnak
Wa gei na lay shang sheto
Wa gei na Demnak
I give you tongues of thunder
I give you Demnak
This is the tale of the love triangle that brought the Demnal and Vampires to the realm of Malifor. Both races are a threat to Maletonians and Ancrillians. Salekel gathered all Demnals in the North to build his army. No one has seen them since.
King Novia’s rage against the Maletonians grew every passing day, as he blamed them for the loss of his bride. Jagta grew to be a mighty warrior and general. He set out to restore his father’s honor and became known as the first Vampire slayer. Hania and Fronok were never seen again. King Novi died in the 3000th rotation. Jagta took his place as king and established the first order of Vampire slayers called Slations. Jagta passed in combat to a dragon in 3539. The reigning Ancrillian King is Matral.

Sipalay locals train on aqua safety
#PHinfo: Sipalay locals train on aqua safety
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Sept. 19 (PIA6) -- About 47 locals and resident owners and 200 children from Sipalay City underwent training on community safety, aquatic rescue and basic safety when in the waters.
The 47 already received their certification on community safety and aquatic rescue from the Australia-based Surf Lifesaving Club of Far North Coast and Sanga Lifesaving Bohol.
Of the 47, 38 individuals passed the Level 2 Basic Lifeguard for Pool and Beach certification, seven in Level 1 Introduction to Lifeguarding, and two in Personal Safety and Water Rescue.
The Sipalay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Philippine Coast Guard - Sipalay City Substation led the 3-day intensive training and practical assessment for residents of coastal barangays and resort owners in the city, a release from Sipalay City Information Office said.
Dionilo Bogtae, executive assistant for public safety, said through the trainings, they aspire to ensure public safety among locals and the tourists who flock the city during the peak seasons.
“This certification adds more individuals who can provide immediate assistance during emergency situations,” Bogate added.
Meanwhile, Sipalay City Mayor Maria Gina Lizares said that the lifesaving training and certification is a way for the city government to ensure that even residents can help preserve lives in times of calamities and emergencies.
Aside from the residents and resort owners, about 200 children aged four to 10, and their parents from coastal barangays also underwent basic swimming techniques and child-friendly activities to instill safety when on the waters.
Members of the CDRRMO were also trained and certified on water search and rescue. *(LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
