Something happened, and now our world is a place filled with strange creatures large and small, plus anthropomorphic animals and alien beings as well as humans. It feels like technology doesn't work anymore, like it's been replaced by living (possibly magical?) vehicles that fly, a place for swords and armor and such, but that's all not quite true and the truth of the world feels both elusive and stranger. (If that sounds like an homage to the work of French artist Moebius, it is, which Araújo makes obvious at times though he also more than makes this book a unique and beautiful thing all its own.) Oh and stories are a form of currency in the book, which is a lot of fun.

After Boldon (a boy) sees the Cyper warrior Spike fight for a meal, Spike's blade is stolen by a thief, Mathilde, who escapes on a jetpack. Boldon tries to help Spike, and the pair end up setting off after blade together, toward The Golden City of Eyes, despite the fact that Spike absolutely hates Boldon's voice. Along they way they run afoul of an otherwordly, villainous posse whose members are also after Matilde, and there's a more powerful enemy or two later in the book as well.

The violence is fairly cartoony, the plot is lighthearted, and characters' banter feels genuine. If you don't know Bendis's work you should check this out, it may make you love superhero comics again -- or look for his Ultimate Spider-Man or Powers, they're also great places to start. Araújo has worked on comics for Marvel, DC, and others, and I enjoyed the series he created with Rick Remender, A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance. His art is spectacular, and never more so than when he's working in black and white like in Phenomena. This graphic novel will particularly appeal to anyone who loves Last Man or Bone, or who has gotten a little old for Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet.

Gorons

Gorons are present in nearly every Zelda game. They are a species of…well, sentient rocks, who also eat rocks. They are very cheery, friendly, welcoming, and are always Link’s allies.

The picture above is of Boldon, Goron City’s Ambassador of Tourism. He stands a bit taller than Kaiba, for perspective.

Death Mountain

This gigantic active volcano is also present in many Zelda games. The ambient temperature is scorching hot, and often Link needs heat-proof gear to climb to the upper reaches of the mountain.

The Gorons live here. They are fine with the heat, because they are sentient rocks.

The Triforce

Eri explained the Triforce pretty thoroughly in the chapter, but…here’s a picture of it, chilling in the Sacred Realm. Hoping that no one tries to steal it.

Different Flavours of Guardians

The gang have already met a Guardian Stalker - the big ones that roam free across Hyrule, blasting everything in reach. Guardian Scouts are different. They’re smaller, quicker, and can wield up to three weapons at a time. Scouts are only found in the Shrines, as they were created to test the Hero’s fighting prowess. As such they are very accomplished at weapon use and very, very scary to fight.

When heading to the cinema to see Jurassic World Dominion they had plenty of different Dinosaur themed items and this was the perfect time to get a photo with a Jurassic Park inspired car, I mean come on doesn’t it go well with my “I Survived Jurassic Park” t-shirt (from Zavvi) so here I my recreating the movie Jurassic Park! (Thank you Cineworld Boldon)

Someone start humming a tune. It gets stuck in everyone's head. No one knows the culprit but eceryone is going mental over it because it's only those five notes and that's not enough to identify the song and get closure.

What do they do?

(Blame *insert name here*, hunt down the culprit, start a search detective style red yard and all, makes up continuation and finds peace, Boldone of you to assume there is a song I don't know, purpusefully alterates melody so it's unrecognisable, is the one that started it all....)

It’s Sky’s fault, he was humming a song he heard on the radio and Wild heard and joined in.

Wild then proceeded to sign exactly one line absolutely everywhere, causing it to get caught by the others.

Rule just wanders around tapping things and humming along.

Wind, Picori and Spirit probably do the same

Time gets so mad and starts accusing Veteran

Ravio starts taking bets from the others on who actually did it
