Once upon a time, George Boldt, owner of NYC's Waldorf Astoria, built a castle for his wife, and this castle lay in the sea on an isle called Heart Island. (Okay, not the sea, but the #StLawrenceRiver.) No expense was spared in his quest to build a majestic Rhineland castle for his wife, Louise. Tragically, Louise passed away before the property was completed, and the unfinished castle lay wasting away until the 1970s, when the #ThousandIslands Bridge Authority acquired the property and began the ongoing restoration that continues.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pictures above is the “Power House and Clock Tower”, which is connected to Heart Island by that stone bridge. .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yes, it's touristy. Yes, you should go see it if you're in the area. Boldt Castle

Boldt Castle is located in the village of Alexandria Bay, in the State of New York, United States. The castle is situated on the five-acre Heart Island in the Saint Lawrence River. The millionaire George Boldt, owner of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel located in New York City, built the castle in 1900 to display his love for his wife, Louise. The six-story, 120-room castle was set to become one of the largest private homes in the U.S. The castle boasts tunnels, a gazebo, the Power House, Italian gardens, a drawbridge, a dovecote, and Alster Tower. Alster Tower was used as a place to entertain guests, the “Shell Room” was used for dancing, while the basement housed a bowling alley, and the upper floors had a billiard room, library, bedrooms, café, and kitchen. The Power House and Clock Tower are located on the eastern side of the island and were designed to resemble a medieval tower, this structure once housed the generators that supplied electricity to the island, but most of the original equipment is gone. Unfortunately, Louise died in 1904, and being heartbroken, Boldt never returned to Heart Island. For 73 years the castle was left abandoned. It was eventually acquired by the Thousand Island Bridge Authority, who spent over 15 million to restore the property. Boldt Castle is seasonally open to the public. The island is accessible by boat and has a gift shop along with food and beverage concessions.

Первая часть повествования вообще вылетела из головы, там ещё и девушка, в которую Герасим был влюблен. Помните? ➖ К чему это все я? Люди, основная масса, с тех времён не поменялась, хоть и отменили крепостное право и годков не мало прошло, а ведь половина и сейчас бы пошли топить собачку 🙄, как Герасим. Или я не права? ➖ А ещё вопрос? Зачем это дают читать в таком возрасте? Ведь мы помним не то, что нам пытаются донести (безправность, беспрекословное подчинение и все такое) а только жалость к собаке и непонимание почему Герасим утопил... Как там в известной песенке... ➖ Ну и о домиках... 😂 То, что у меня на скетче, это не английский или шотландский 🏰 замок, а всего лишь часть построенного поместья-замка в USA миллионером Джоржем Болдтом совсем недавно.
