Here, have another picture of Sherbert, the most precious lovebird in the whole dang house.
She's about ten years old and has funky legs that stick out to the sides, but she gets her flaps in every day all over the living room. She loves millet, prefers when humans keep a respectful distance, and enjoys chirping back at sounds that may or may not be other birds. She has the most adorable fluffenchops in the world.
A year ago she lost her mate, Bonnie, so now when she goes around to her favorite sitting spots, she has to sit on her own. But Sherbert is still healthy and does her best every day. She's truly the sweetest of beebs.

It's cage cleaning/bath day for Sherbert, so she gets a millet treat to soften the blow.

Sherbert's legs are splayed out such that when she landed on my knee, she couldn't put both feet down until I extended my leg flat. Silly bird!

One of the things I appreciate about Sherbert is her unfailing* ability to recognize when the music we are listening to has a bird chirping in it, and her unfailing response of chirping right back at that bird.
*She actually mistakes a lot of non-bird things for birds, like weird beeps and high trumpet and reed notes. But her record with actual bird sounds is pretty much flawless.

We were out of town for a few days to visit family for Thanksgiving, which was good times. However, I missed my birds terribly.
Now I'm lounging on my couch and they're both just lounging here at my feet. Yoshi's chewing on my sock. Seems about right.

Very happy to be home again, where I can see my birds and tell them about the birds I saw overseas.

Re-introducing the lovebirds Bonnie and Sherbert, and introducing their new little brother, Yoshi the green-cheeked conure! They're getting along pretty well so far.

We got curtains for this window recently. Sherbert doesn't know what they are for.

Just got a call from the vet about the necropsy report for Bonnie. The morning that Bonnie died, the suspicion was some kind of metal toxicity. It looks like the report bears that out.
We talked about how it might have happened, and I'll be damned sure I don't let anything like this happen to Sherbert or Yoshi, but the fact that she could have done something as small as gnaw on a little piece of metal and poisoned herself is sobering. I never wanted my birds to be a cautionary tale, but I hope every one with birds in their home is mindful of the risks.
