full title: "i asked my boyfriend to name the game but he couldn't think of a title"

rpgmaker xp is/was free on steam so i got it. i asked my partner to name it (it took me a fair bit to figure out how to change the title image)

i remember getting the trial for xp back in highschool, i did not understand a thing

i still do not understand anything

this software is uhm, well i think i'm getting the hang of it! it took me a while to get an event working and it's because confirm is mapped to 'C' instead of 'Z' for some god-awful reason

well, it's cool to see there's a script editor, not that i'll be using it a lot

this is gonna be horribly disorganized, just like me working with this

i changed configs, Z - Confirm reigns supreme. also ig a benefit for this software being really old is the abundance of add-ons like these scripts from a person called blizzard, which allowed me to change the configs in the first place. there's some interesting stuff here too but i think i might stick with the base customizing first

charming art and lots and lots of words, yessir. well, i don't think it'll be too hard to do once you get the hang of it though, most of the things here seem to actually be self-explanatory now that i take the time to look at them. oh also the events thing looks super fun

i misinterpreted the "Event Touch" button as "when a player touches the event" but it's probably "when an event touches this event" since there's player touch already (obvious in hindsight)

anyway it works!

this is more a systems/software test if anything, but also i kinda want it to be fun at least so??? we'll see where this goes

Hello, it's me, Snezhik (directly from 2021, if you remember me) I once upon a time asked for small requests so that you could answer them for Peter from the game Your BoyfriendGame.

After you told me that I can't apply if you're under 18 (which I actually support), but since I turned 18 about six months ago, I can start asking you for requests again (of course if this is still possible) Thank you for warning me about this then.

Oh wow. I do remember you, it’s been so long 😭 so much has happened since that time.

Unfortunately, my blog has sort of died and I tried to get back into blogging but work kept me from keeping up with it. I couldn’t bare to delete my blog though since others seemed to find my content enjoyable and I put so much effort into all of my writings so I kept it up.

Seeing your name brings a smile to my face though and makes me wanna try again at keeping my blog somewhat alive and writing again.

Sorry I took so long to answer by the way, I mostly check my stuff late at night on Thursdays (a day I temporarily have off during the week)

boyfriendgame: devlog week 1

days - feb 23, 28; mar 1, 3

well it's, honestly kinda like a day 1 for today (march 3) but uh, let's say thinking about what to do counts for now.

those earlier days i was doing minor tweaks to the game mechanics, changed the default walking speed to my liking and added area spawn mechanics via an add-on, so that patch of broken tiles gives a different kind of enemy than the rest of the place. neat

i've thought of what to do with the game and the ones i mainly gravitated to were:

make it a roguelike, naturally (probs influenced by playing emerald rogue a fair bit)

spell fusion/crafting - uh so i remember reading somewhere that dnd takes its spell slot inspiration from a magic system that had people forget how to cast the spell when they do, so i thought having to hold spells in inventory and having the ability to mix match fuse attributes could be fun, maybe

turn order ui - i just like these

initiative-based combat mechanic, thing - uhh, basically i wanted to see if i can make turn-based combat interesting and i thought if you call out all your moves first, setting the order who attacks, and your entire party only attacking when the first person in order acts (hence, you're all as slow as the unit with higher initiative) which, sounds like it'd be cool in concept ? maybe

anyway, i kinda didn't do any of that today and just decided to make an options menu because the volume is always so loud

it wasn't that hard to figure out how to add it. ended up repurposing Scene_Menu for the options script, and well it worked out fairly okay i think (i thought)

could not get it to properly remove just the audio options on X so uh i just used a script from the internet

nevermind, i fiddled around with it a bit more and i'm not entirely sure what's wrong

that was a few hours wasted, honestly, i don't think i'll be doing that any time soon. so, i think, maybe i should just focus on mapping out starting areas based on the very vague story/plot i have in mind

that being absolutely nothing, of course

i found a few more custom menu scripts so uh, gonna look into that like, eventually. i'm not even sure how to implement unique gameplay mechanics into this now, too. jeez, much less a whole roguelike gameplay loop

i think i'm starting to understand the appeal of making a story-based puzzle horror game on rpgmaker. hmm, i wanna try getting a fun turn-based combat rpg still somehow, though

My boyfriend is a GAMER. And so am i but...

i love that my boyfriend is a GAMER, but it makes me feel like shit whenever he make plan with his friends not with me… or no plan at all. it seems like my boyfriend finds games more important than me. he’ll ignore me for hours at a time playing fckng games. i’m a gamer… but not to the point make him feel unwanted. i drop everything to send him message or stop whatever im doing just to text him back instead of making reason just to continue the game. it really makes me feel sad, shit, annoyed. i just wish he wouldn’t ignore me so much.
