i got so lost in the thoughts jungle i completely forgot to elaborate on my main brainpoint; Doing Your Character Justice. i think what becomes the most dissappointing Representation that does little to serve anyone either way is when there is a character that doesn't get their story told properly. when they get turned into a joke. when they get swept to the side. when they get flattened and flanderized. when they get sacrificed at the altar of another character's development. it does not make for a satisfying arc nor a satisfying story. and like, i know, you kinda have to pick your battles when it comes to storytelling, you can not (and should not) make every single character appearance a deep and fully fledged three dimensional experience. but it also means that the things you choose to leave in - they matter and you should commit to your choices. lean into their potential. a story where the characters make sense for themself and their context will feel real and impactful, even if it goes in a different direction than convention calls for. if you really want to tell a story - tell the story.
good morning i got like ten hours of sleep (REJOICE) and my brain is capable of having thoughts again. i want to write a blog post about Representation In Media here we go unless you make something yourself with your own hands entirely for your own indulgence, you are never going to get the perfect Representation that you specifically crave. there is no One Size Fits All solution for representing any identity in a piece of media. we all seek something different from stories, and we seek different things from different stories. i usually start my thoughts like this with "i personally think" but i personally think this is a pretty objective statement. what i do Think that if we had a recipe for Perfect Representation it would turn all of our stories bland and same-like, not to mention Deeply Biased From A Cultural Standpoint. do not get me wrong - i think Representation is deeply important, i think giving it some serious thought and even consulting sensitivity readers is a very positive thing to do. we all have blind spots, we are all fallible, and we all have biases to face. but it's never going to be Perfect, and that's okay. what it's going to be regardless, is a story. and here's what i Personally Think - i think staying true to your story and your characters and do them justice is more important than checking off boxes on the Representation List. because i think that's what representation really boils down to - not the exact correct way they will talk about their experiences, but their sheer humanity in engaging with it. human beings are messy and diverse and so are stories. stories affect reality in the same way we affect stories, we are the ones who create them, we are the ones who tell them, we are the ones who read them, watch them, play them, engage with them, retell them, criticize them, forget them, think about them fifteen years later. it's a two way street baby. a piece of art does not exist as a singular unaltered shining entity in the mind of the artist, it exists differently in the mind of every person in its audience. maybe YOU see a trashy sitcom full of continuity holes, but i'm different. i see an epic and tragic romance imprisoned in the status quo timeloop. maybe the side character is forgettable to YOU. maybe he saved my life. you can't know! another personal belief of mine, and i know i've talked about it before - i think self-indulgence tells the best stories. i think fully leaning into what you really love and want to see, to decline your shame, to say "listen this is the story i've always wanted to see and i have not seen it yet. i know it's kinda stupid but i don't care anymore", to be sincere - it will not be for everyone (nothing is), but you're rarely the only person who wanted to see it. through sheer sincerity we can reach out a hand and someone else will take it. trying to please literally everyone will create a bland story and a lukewarm audience. i know we live under capitalism and there is no good solution because you gotta make money, too, and sometimes it's a job and you create what you do because you need to live. sometimes you do what you need to do to please a different audience than yourself. but we also live in an age where it's never been easier to share your own stories with the entire audience of the world. you no longer need to be a full team to create and publish (though i've witnessed how incredibly hard it is to be a lone webcomic creator and having to do everything yourself until you burn out. IT'S NOT GREAT OR SUSTAINABLE AND I WISH WE DIDN'T LIVE UNDER LATE STAGE CAPITALISM). creators can be any one among us, it can be me, it can be you, they are on twitter, they are on tumblr, they stream on wednesdays, and we can even message them directly?? and with that, it removes so much of the curtain - you can tell them if you think they did something wrong. you can ask them about how valid your headcanon is. the separation is thinner - just because you CAN doesn't always mean you SHOULD. the anxiety of every creator who is in any way accessible to their audience - you
can create something incredibly heartfelt and vulnerable and personal, and in doing so people will reach in through your ribcage bars and try to grab everything they can. it's easier to ask the Accessible Lone Creator to defend their story choices than it is to pester whoever the CEO of marvel is. it's not always a good thing, it's not always a bad thing, but independent creators are always going to catch the brunt of it more soundly. and knowing this, it makes us afraid to create stories, sometimes. because most of us don't want to hurt anyone with the stories we want to tell, but it's hard not to, i think. most stories have to be a little messy. it makes us want to polish our stories down till there's almost nothing left. we just have to overcome this anxiety and be brave enough to tell our stories anyway, or else they'll never get told at all. and i'm not saying media and creators are exempt from criticism at all, but that, well, everything is so dang complex all the dang time. there's different audiences. there's audiences that will see your little gender hints and know and nod, no explanations needed. there's audiences that will not see a character as transgender no matter how loudly and explicitly they perform it on screen. how can you POSSIBLY reconcile your story to cater to both audience at once? maybe there's a need for two different stories - one is the story of a subtle and complicated relationship with gender that explores the navigation of their life and challenges and how it intersects with their other identities. the other is a story where the character loudly proclaims they are transgender and while they used to identify one way, they now identify as this, but they are still the same person they always were and want to be treated as such and don't want to answer any questions on this topic ever THANKS. both stories are valid, relatable and important in their own way, but they rarely satisfy the same audience. and y'know, sometimes, i can relate to a character that wasn't even intended to be representation. i know the author didn't intend to write an autistic character, but that character sure is autistic and speaks far more to my soul than the cardboard autistic rep they served me earlier. sometimes there is a cis character struggling with gender woes i struggle with as a trans person, and it validates me in ways another story intended to be Transgender Representation never did. in sheer vulnerability and sincerity, i reach across to hold the author's hand in our shared humanity. there is no one experience that is wholly unique to a single demographic. there is no one emotion that is exclusive to only one group of people. i think it's more important to tell the story that is right for the world and the characters than the satisfaction of a checklist. there is not any one way to experience an identity, and every person will experience it differently. to break someone's character just to make sure they engage with their experiences in a percieved 'correct' way might just make the story fall flat and make no impression at all. besides, if there IS a percieved Correct Way, it has been done already, that's for sure. there's probably someone who needs to hear the messy story of a messy experience that you want to tell. maybe that someone is you, and that's enough. you can't tell Every Story, and that's enough too. you don't have to like every story. you can quit reading a book in the middle of it. it's okay if you want to watch a show for One character and that character only. you can find the storytellers that hold your heart in the ways you need to be held. i promise they're out there if you look.

Brain Points
Brain Points is a research paper that implemented a Growth Mindset incentive and narrative structure and measured the results against a neutral mindset control version of the same game. The results suggested that video games were a valid form of Growth Mindset training delivery. O’Rourke et. al. found:
Through a study of 15,000 children, we show that the “brain points” system encourages more low-performing students to persist in the educational game Refraction when compared to a control, and increases overall time played, strategy use, and perseverance after challenge.

Tumblr media
This is incredibly encouraging to find. This directly relates back to brief, provides a break down of mechanics and systems, and results suggest an increase in Growth Mindset. The incentive structure they chose is very interesting in that it’s unpredictable to the player by design. This was to discourage cheating but it also resulted in a sort of variable ratio reward schedule. Essentially, the player had to complete 2 different tasks before they were rewarded, and they couldn’t repeat the same combination of 2 tasks twice in a row. They were also never explicitly told what constituted a task but could infer by the name that displayed when they got points.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure how I feel about this as, on one hand, having immediate feedback is a cornerstone of interaction design. On the other hand, rewards should encourage the behaviour you want and without this relatively complex structure, the behaviour would be different and potentially unwanted.
I want to try and incorporate some of the reward system design principals into my project. Like rewarding players when they try a new strategy to overcome a problem. The narrative structure worked well for a children’s game but I’m concerned that it would come off as patronizing for my older audience. That said, framing or visually representing progress as it’s own struggle, like climbing a hill, is a neat way of subtly working in Growth Mindset.

The innovation of 3d movement
The object appears in a 3-dimensional space and which can be rotated and moved in a different way looks like the real objects. It is also considered to be as the heart of the games and the virtual reality. It can also be used in the PowerPoint presentation to add some lair to the visuals.
In spite of the fact that movement has been with us for up to a couple of decades now, the idea of liveliness still appears to be essentially enchanted to the layman. 'How would you make illustrations wake up on screen?' is the thing that they normally inquire. With the innovation of 3D movement innovation, the idea of activity turns out to be considerably progressively foggy and magical to the layman. Despite everything they allude to 3D activity as 'drawing' and know not a thing about the procedure that goes on behind the 3D movement
As the proprietor of a 3D movement studio, I feel that it is critical to teach our customers on what goes on behind 3D liveliness creation. The information won't simply enable them to welcome the administration better, yet in addition, encourages the procedure of joint effort and deal with their desires. This is essential since it enables our customers to accomplish what they need and enables us to discuss viable with them.
Difference:
The principal idea you should get a handle on is that 3D implies 3 dimensional and 2D implies 2 dimensional. Presently before you believe I'm expressing the self-evident; let me proceed to state that the 3D and 2D in movement allude to the measurement in which the liveliness was made.
For 2D movement, everything occurs on a 2-dimensional stage. Pictures are level, without profundity and offer just a single point of view. Items and characters are normally drawn without the inconspicuous delicate shadows we find, in actuality, and hues have few shifting shades.
In the 3D activity, everything occurs on a 3-dimensional stage. Pictures have profundity and offer numerous points of view simply like, in actuality, and have delicate unpretentious shadows thrown on the articles and characters inside.
In 2D, characters look silly and unlikely. In 3D, characters can look silly however practical in the meantime.

WELCOME TO BRAINPOINT
Yes, okay I changed it again.
I HAVE MY REASONS.
The reasoning behind the brand change was that the first drafts used the logo all in capital letters, yet i have decided to keep the typeface throughout the application as lowercase with capitals to start each sentence or main topic listing.
It also helped with the inspirations to connect the two i’s as a progress bar, a sort of metaphor for seeing your progress as you go.
