every couple of months my corpse is reanimated by some drug or another; and my body, knowing what's right, resists and resists every time.

more than anything, i wish that she would have left me to rot in the foundations of my own decay, to let the bugs and worms scurry across my body. they will get more use out of it than i have. so zombielike with so many different parts of me sewn together to create a being that is barely alive.

frankenstein had a point. he understood the thrill of creating. he understood more than anyone how it feels to have created something that is so much bigger than you, so much more important than you. and that you could never measure up to it. you could try, but you could never create something as beautiful as adam again.

i am not eve. i am not the snake.

i am god and i know this because i abandon every creation i make out of fear. i can never create anything so disastrous yet so lovely ever again.

i burrow in my cave and draw lines in the dirt with fingers that have not been calloused in years.

the lines look familiar, and the wind howls notes that only i would remember.

and my hands clench around the pen that isn't there.

and so the mind forgets, but the body remembers.
