Episode #32: Link Up | Wellington Brewery with Karyn Boscariol

The penultimate week in Link Up's Series 6 brings us back to Ontario with one of the most legendary breweries in the province - Wellington Brewery! Karyn joined Tiff and Cee to chat about their pioneering work with Queen of Craft and creating more gender equality in craft beer, the demographic changes they've seen over the years as a result of their efforts, how they try to make craft beer more accessible and approachable to more people, and where she sees beer going from here. They cracked open Welly's Link Up American Pale Ale, at 5.4% it rocks Sorachi Ace, Sasquatch, Topaz and Amarillo in the boil, and it's hazy, tropical, crushable and citrusy. Cheers!

Episode #2: Fighting For Dollars with Jeff Talmey (Town Brewery) + Andrew Silver (Fine Balance) | The Business of Beer

The second episode of our new season, The Business of Beer, brings in the Co-Founders of the breweries represented in Episode #1. Jeff Talmey of Town and Andrew Silver of Fine Balance join Cee and Nate to chat about the current state of the craft beer industry, being a boutique craft brewery versus a growth-oriented craft brewery, the pros and cons of selling craft beer in the LCBO, brewing and selling flagships or mainstays versus producing one-off releases every week, the different distribution options (bars, indie bottle shops, LCBO, grocery, The Beer Store), selling kegs to craft beer bars versus regular bars, and the variation of ingredient costs. They got into some gems from both breweries - Town Quick One Lager, Fine Balance x Heist Bankroll Italian Pilsner, Town Outside Jokes Pale Ale, and Fine Balance Wander Double IPA. This was jam-packed with gems - cheers!

Gaggia Classic to ECM Classika PID...worth it? via /r/Coffee

Gaggia Classic to ECM Classika PID...worth it?

I've been making my once daily morning espresso cortado on my Gaggia Classic (with Silvia steam wand) for the past 8 years. Recently, I've gotten the bug to upgrade to a new machine and I've decided on the ECM Classika PID which is roughly $1,600. I've been a bit reluctant to make the purchase though because it's a huge increase in price obviously over what I paid for the Gaggia and I'm concerned that the coffee and coffee-making experience won't be significantly better.

Does anyone have experience with both of these machines? The Classika will still require me to wait a minute or two before I can steam so the only real upgrades over the Gaggia seem to be the E61 brewhead and the PID and shot timer (I don't care about aesthetics so I'm not listing that as an upgrade). Is this a fair statement?

Will the ECM Classika make such better espresso that it's worth that kind of cash?
