Curious about which use of “groom” came first (guy getting married or horse attendant?) and it turns out it was the horse one first—“groom” as in “guy getting married” is short for “bridegroom” which was originally “bridegoom” until the word “guma” meaning “man” was totally obsolete and by folk etymology became “bridegroom” since his relationship with the bride was similar to a groom’s relationship to a horse? Or something?

Anyway up until the 20th Century some people were still saying “bridegoom”

Bridegroom would have been *bridegoom if it hadn't been mixed with Middle English grōme ((young) male) through folk etymology. It's cognate with German Bräutigam and Dutch bruidegom. The 2nd part stems from Germanic *gumōn. It's cognate with Latin homō (human; man).

Can we just... take a moment to appreciate how fuckin amazed Hua Cheng must have been when he saw Xie Lian again for the first time. He finds out he's back on earth and running around a haunted mountain and decides, Hey time to make my move.

And when Hua Cheng finds him, he not only is in a perfectly tailored damsel in distress moment, but Xie Lian is LITERALLY IN WEDDING ROBES. He couldn't have planned a more perfect first encounter if he tried!

And may I just say the way he took the opportunity? Mwah, the vibes of his whole chivalrous bridegoom act were just sublime. They are both kings of making legendary first impressions, no wonder they were both immediately ride or die for each other.

With evil dashed to pieces and the Red Dragon locked up, the King of kings and Lord of lords will take His seat on a throne on Mount Zion to judge the peoples. His iron scepter is in hand as He makes the rulings.

Peace will then remain on the lands of the realm for a thousand years. All peoples will travel from around the world seeking the wisdom and blessings from the Son of GOD. Amen-amen!
