My mother claimed she understood everything but ultimately she was like everyone else of her generation, ignorant of what it really meant to be anything other than a straight cis (so she never understood me one bit.) I've just given up trying to tell my parents I'm genderfluid and if they don't like the fact that I have friends who are trans then it's their own problem. One of my exes is a trans male and my mom kept calling him her. The poor guy was able to shrug it off but I felt bad because she would talk shit about him behind his back and that really pissed me off. I don't know if I should laugh or cry at the fact that my grandparents are more understanding and are fine with it. They never seemed to care or anything so I don't get how my dad could be so transphobic when his parents are not. I'm sorry about your mom though. The best thing I have learned is just say fuck it and do what makes you happy. Who knows maybe one day our parents will understand.
