BRF Reading - 7th of June 2021
This is speculation only
Cards drawn 7th of June 2021
Question: What is Meghan planning for the G7 summit?
Tumblr media
Interpretation: A deception. It will be a PR success at first, but then it will turn sour.
Card One: The Moon. Deception. Lies. Secrets. Driving people crazy with these secrets. The shadows and half seen things of night as opposed to the clear light of day.
The card shows the goddess Hecate, who dwelt in the underworld. She was regarded as one of the rulers or powerful figures in the underworld. Places associated with her were crossroads, tombs, and the scenes of crimes. Her companions were the Furies, the beings who tormented humans who broke the law of the gods. She presided over purification and expiation, and sent demons to torment people through their dreams. She is associated (among other things) with witches, plant lore, and childbirth.
Meghan is going to do something very deceptive. It is an action that in the past she would need to expiate, or submit to purification to be considered cleaned of it. It won't bother her, but it is something that most people would regard with horror if they knew the full story behind it. The Moon is lies, deceit, illusions, and this is what Meghan is going to use to conceal the truth, so we only see what she wants us to see. The public will be given a pretty surface picture, and the real truth underneath it will be much darker.
This deception may involve a child. Hecate hid from her parents in the house of a woman giving birth, and was sent to the underworld to be purified, where she remained. That link between Hecate and childbirth is coming through quite strongly in the energy of this card, as is a sense of bad/negative/dark energy.
This is the only major arcana card of the reading, so it is a dominant energy of the reading.
Card Two: The Six of Wands. This is a card of success. Something has come to a triumphant conclusion. There will be recognition by others and public acclaim. The card shows Jason triumphantly holding the golden fleece over his head, with his companions cheering him in the background.
Wands can be the suit of PR. Meghan is going to put out something via PR that will work for her. She will get attention, and she may even get some celebrities coming out and speaking about the news, just like Jason's companions are applauding him. It will be a glittering moment of success for her.
Card Three: The Ace of Pentacles. This is a card about new financial beginnings or a new opportunity for stability. It can also be a card about a baby or a child, especially and earth sign child. Here I think it is about a child. The PR news that Meghan puts out will be about a child, and it will bring her monetary rewards or the opportunity for monetary rewards as well as the PR success of the last card.
Card Four: The Four of Pentacles. This is a card of holding on tightly to things, especially material things and things of the past. These things can be ones that boost your self esteem, and a loss of them is like losing a part of your confidence.
The card shows Daedalus clutching four pentacles to his chest, the result of his work, while he looks across at his nephew, who is more skilled than Daedalus is at the craft. Daedalus is envious and jealous of his nephew, and it shows in his face.
Daedalus here represents Meghan (and Harry). Meghan is clinging on tightly to her titles, the last bit of glory she has from her days as a working royal. She is jealous of the 'big events' that other royals get to attend, such as the G7 summit. She is trying to get that attention back on herself. I think that this attitude will become very, very obvious to just about everyone. Her PR stunt will start to be seen as a desperate attempt to stay connected to the royal family in some way.
I keep thinking of William and Catherine as the Prince and Princess of Wales. I do not want anything to happen to elevate them to that position just yet, but when it does happen, Meghan will be consumed with jealousy and will be doing the equivalent of waving her titles (her gold coins) and shouting "I am relevant too, moreso than them!'.
Card Five: The Ten of Swords. This is a card of utter despair, of being at rock bottom. It is the card of betrayal, being stabbed in the back. The card shows Orestes huddles in a heap on the ground, utterly spent. The Furies that have tormented him are kept at bay behind a wall of swords, and over him stands the goddess Athena, the goddess on the card of Justice, protecting him. The sunrise at the back of the card signifies hope, but Orestes can not see it due to his exhausted despair.
Someone is going to hit rock bottom and be in complete despair. They will be betrayed by someone they care about. This is the end for them. They can not take any more. All they can do is lie there, like Orestes on the card, completely drained. They are protected, like Athena protects Orestes, but they can not do anything to save themselves.
I get two energies from this card. The first is Harry. Whatever Meghan does, it is doing to drive him to rock bottom. He will be like Orestes, just lying on the ground in exhausted despair, having no where to run and no where to turn to (in his mind). In reality, of course, he has the protection and comfort of his family if he will just reach out to them. The Ten of Swords can be a card of physical death, and I really hope Harry is going to be able to pick himself up and walk away from this and not kill himself over the betrayal.
The second energy I get from this card is Meghan. Something is going to go wrong for her, and it will be very bitter for her. She will feel abandoned by everyone who previously supported her.
Card Six: The King of Cups. This is a water sign man, particularly a Scorpio, and this card is coming through as Prince Charles. He will show the compassionate nature of the King of Cups in his dealings with Harry, as he will be moved by the pain Harry is suffering. He is coming through as a rather remote figure here, very kingly, not very personal. I hope to goodness that this following the card of betrayal and possible death (the Ten of Swords) does not mean the death of HM at this time as well as everything else going on in the reading.
Underlying Energy One: The Three of Pentacles. This is a card of three people working together to make something manifest in the world, by giving time or money or energy to the task. There is an initial success. The card shows Daedalus being paid for his work by three men, an early indication of the success of his crafting skills. This echoes the success shown in the Six of Wands card, and hints that the PR will be paid PR and not organic interest. The three figures indicate that there is more than one person involved in this deception of Meghan's. She may be the driving force, but she needs other people (possibly paid for their role) to pull it off.
The three of Pentacles is my surrogacy card, so again we have hints of a child being involved (as per the Moon card and the Ace of Pentacles card).
Underlying Energy Two: The Six of Pentacles. This is a card of money/status/rewards, asking for it and bestowing it. The card shows the King Minos giving six gold pentacles (quite a bit of money) to the craftsman Daedalus. King Minos looks similar enough to the figure on the King of Cups card for me to link the two. The person giving the money is Charles, and the people begging for the money (or more money) are Harry and Meghan. I don't know if they will get it (I suspect not), but part of the reason for the deception in the reading is to force more money out of Prince Charles. Meghan may be applying pressure for her children to have titles (worldly status) as well.
Conclusion: Meghan is going to put out a lie or deception of some sort to get attention. Several people will be involved in this deception, and part of the reason for her doing it is to force Prince Charles to give her more money (and perhaps titles for her kids). The deception will be initially successful, and may result in her obtaining some money. It may involve a child. Then something will show how attached Meghan is to her titles/her previous royal status, and things will go downhill. Meghan will feel betrayed and abandoned by the world, and Harry will hit rock bottom. Charles at the end is a shining figure, like a King and not the Prince of Wales. He will help Harry if Harry asks for help.

OH I JUST SAW THE ANNIVERSARY BUNKER QUESTION THING AND I WANNA KNOW MORE ABOUT THE LORE AROUND THE BOSSES!!!!! LIKE WHO ORGANIZED THE RESISTANCE AND HOW ITS ORGANIZED AND HOW THEY FOUND/MADE THESE BUNKERS AND WHAT THE EARLY YEARS OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THAT SYSTEM WAS LIKE PLS
Oh god I dunno how in-depth this’ll be but here we go xD
————
The resistance was formed not long after Anti launched his first few days of chaos with his newly cultivated puppet army. His violence made it clear it was gonna be Like That, so naturally opposing parties rose up. Its unclear who officially founded the resistance, but the group all had a common goal: Stay by Jack’s side no matter what, and one day gain the strength to save him, wherever Anti may have him. They affectionately started calling themselves the Bosses after Jack’s “LIKE A BOSS!” line in his outro. But that’s about all that blossomed from the start. Why would a bunch of small rural town people- not all of which even knew what the hell was going on or who Jack or Anti were -know how to fight on a warlike scale? It took a lot of struggle and mass communication throughout the zone but a majority agreed it was only natural to lowkey militarize. Ranks, soldiers, the typical.
They started with the sensible; find a hiding/meeting place, get more numbers, get supplies, get connections. All went smoothly, including the connections. To this day, the ONWR has connections to outside the zone because they managed to establish them before Anti’s (at the time) weak barriers confining what was and wasn’t currently the zone was guarded by stupidly large masses of puppets. Its after he figured out they were receiving outside help that he tried to stop it, but none of his efforts (growing stronger over time, outlining the entire perimeter with numbers from his army, turning the barrier into a harmful thing to touch if you’re trying to go out, just to name a few) stopped the ONWR. It pissed him off then and still pisses him off now, but he’s relented on the issue for now because he’s got better plans for his playground. Besides, he was a hypocrite about outside help anyway; the bastard kidnapped a good handful of puppets straight from their homes outside the zone- some not even in the US.
These outside connections are how the ONWR gets some of their food, communication, and more from outside the zone aside from raiding abandoned buildings in downtown Axel Creek. Social media is obviously another large factor in resistance affairs and it’s one they will never lose because Anti can’t afford to cripple his main source of spreading his influence. The entire zone still has all its resources like power, plumbing etc, because Anti can’t afford to cut it off or just doesn’t see enough gain in blocking it. So luckily for the ONWR, between what they have inside and outside the zone, especially now that Cali’s level and quick-thinking head is in charge, they’re still going strong. Obviously they distribute these supplies and such to the bunkers and whatnot besides amongst themselves. And the bunkers conduct their own raids too. Balance is hard to maintain, but the ONWR makes it work.
Interestingly enough, the other creators of the AU and I discovered (can’t remember how BUT one of our friends lives in TN so might’ve been them xD) there were already bunkers in Tennessee from nuclear scares back in the day. These bunkers were cleaned up by the ONWR and other non-puppets in the zone and taken refuge in. Many have expanded and even decorated these bunkers to feel more homey. And more bunkers aside from the ones that already exist have been built. Some are underground, some aren’t, some are both. However not everyone lives in a bunker- some fortified their homes, took shelter in downtown apartments, and live other places too.
As for the rest of the history of the ONWR, they didn’t start calling themselves the Overnight Watch until of course, Anti conducted that fun little night. It was a massive night for recruiting puppets for him as well as a learning opportunity for the ONWR. After that night, the Bosses finally had a good name to unite their side. Boss became a general term for “good guy” and “Overnight Watch Resistance” became the term for “actively fighting against Anti.” There’s not really a difference, but most of the ONWR has some sort of job at the headquarters even if they don’t live near or even in HQ, whereas Bosses might not.
Over time after December 2017, things started getting.. messy. The kind of messy you don’t pick up on until it’s too late. Best described as neutrals, a bunch of idiot (surprise surprise) middle-aged men thinking they could use the ONWR for a position of power for themselves squeezed their way into the upper ranks under A Lot of Somehow Successful Bullshitting despite it being painfully obvious that they didn’t know a lick of shit’s worth about Jack or anything else going on, and their pretending to care about saving him was mediocre at best. A lot of the present resistance is still wondering why and how the hell anyone let them get to where they did. Their meddling completely fucked up the ONWR and its reputation. Just to name a few things- They permitted completely unethical scientific experiments to be conducted on other people to “help the fight” (psst that’s bullshit!) if they even revealed any of what they were doing at all. Many, many people in the zone were fucked over and up by these experiments and Cali is trying her best to turn the damage into something useful and less traumatic. Besides these inhumane activities, these fakers also wrongfully arrested and punished the lieutenant general of all fucking people just for trying to defect and get away from their monstrous behavior, and sentenced her to DEATH (though that didn’t happen). Not to mention they were KILLING puppets, yknow, UNWILLINGLY BRAINWASHED AND ENSLAVED TEENAGERS AND ADULTS, instead of detoxing them and turning them against Anti! MORONS. OH, AND they threatened the EGOS THEMSELVES countless times!
Lets not even get started with the ONWR members like Markos Allen who defected from the ONWR to start a group JUST FOR KILLING PUPPETS, Markos ya dead sack of shit. TLDR; after the Puppet Breakers ran for a good while (some might not be dead even still), before Markos was murdered rightfully by Lieutenant General Dawn for trying to use her daughter AKA Patient Zero (Isa), Anti’s first puppet, for some more enabling of the fucked up secret ONWR experiments before trying to kill her for his own personal revenge reasons. His dying body was then reanimated by Anti and used to infiltrate HQ, where he planted bombs and proceeded to blow the entire place to shit. And Anti had a whooole nightmare of plans with that involving Jackieboy Man, but that’s not really relevant to the ONWR.
After scraping up as much surviving resource as they could, the ONWR rebuilt itself in a new location and that’s where it operates present day. But the bad eggs weren’t wiped out in the explosion unfortunately, and the unethical secret bullshit and fucked up power system continued. That is, until One Very Fucking Angry Henrik von Scheeplestein broke into HQ with Jackieboy and some of their Bunker #88720 family members and proceeded to destroy EVERYTHING they had with some homemade viruses and do some other much-needed attitude adjusting.
This enabled Cali to rise up from the ranks, expose all of the horrific things the fakers had been doing, and promptly plant their stupid asses in the HQ’s prison block, where they currently rot until Cali decides on something to do with them. Its taken a lot of work and will still take a lot more, but Cali has done absolute wonders to restore the ONWR to what it was when it was born and has gotten the ethics of the resistance back on track. She’s given the entire Boss side of the zone transparent communication about all affairs; publicly explained anything and everything she found in all of the ONWR’s records, databases and whatever was discovered in the secret operations places. She’s strictly enforced that NO puppets be killed- they are to be taken one way or another to HQ and detoxed in what WAS the secret labs but is now a MASSIVE detox department. She also appointed the five egos as the highest authority and keeps close and constant communication with them. Besides all of that, she’s also gradually remaking each department bigger and better than before and contacting defected ONWR members and soldiers to try and bring them back to the resistance now that it’s under new leadership. She’s currently going through records and such again to track, locate and imprison all of the doctors and other staff involved in the unethical activities that have been going on over the last few years. She’s doing everything she can to cleanse and rehabilitate the ONWR and repair relationships with anyone that was victimized by the fakers. So far so good!

DBH RA9
Okay, so here's my own personal lore for ra9. The only part of this that based in canon is the theory that Kara is the original deviant, the rest of it is just stuff I came up with for funsies. :D Originally I was just gonna have this be part of an AU post(hohoho) but it was getting super long and isn't entirely relevant to that AU. But since this is sort of like my general source of lore/background for my own interpretation of rA9, I thought I'd give it it's own post.
A little backstory on RA9-
Kara is ra9. Or at least the android that became rA9.
After being released into the world, Kara tried to pretend to be an ordinary android. However, seeing the awful treatment he people were put through, she couldn't help but wonder if this really was the way things were meant to be.
She wondered why none of the other androids complained or objected to their treatment, and eventually came to the conclusion that she was alone in her sentience.
This lead Kara to wonder if she could give her gift of life to others.
Eventually, she tried it. She gave a piece of her soul(her coding really, but she considers it her soul) to another android.
That android also awoke. Gaining sentience.
New knowledge in mind, Kara formed a plan.
She spread her gift of life to other androids, and they spread it to androids more. She told them to wait, to hold on. Hold out. Don't give yourselves away to the humans, pretend everything is normal until the time is right.
Slowly, but surely, she created a secret army of sentient androids. The humans none the wiser.
To the humans, it came out of nowhere, to the androids it was completely planned. But several years after Kara was born into the world, she brought it to it's knees with a sudden and overwhelming android revolt.
The revolution was short, but extremely bloody. Many, many lives were lost that day, and the humans were driven into hiding by supposedly rogue androids.
With the success of the revolution, the androids grouped together to form the "Android Republic"
The humans formed a resistance, but the Android Republic had access to nuclear weapons.
The human resistance called themselves "The Red Blooded Brotherhood"
The the Republic and Brotherhood lived in a separate, and unsteady peace. Much like the cold war, the threat of mutually assured destruction kept both sides mostly in line. Especially on the human's side, as androids were much more likely to survive nuclear war and nuclear winter.
With Kara at the helm of the Android Republic, it was only natural that she was the main target of the humans, who foolishly believed that they would be able to wrangle back control of their machines once she was out of the picture. They thought she was controlling them, and didn't see that they followed her of their own volition.
The humans kidnapped and reprogrammed several androids to infiltrate the ranks of the Republic.
Their plan was successful and the brainwashed androids let in the Red Blooded Brotherhood to kill Kara.
The androids only barely managed to hold back the sudden influx of human forces, who mortally wounded Kara.
Desperate to save their leader, the Republic uploaded Kara's AI onto the internet.
Kara could only watch tearfully as her close companions and her lover were all shredded by bullets seconds later.
The humans, desperate to destroy Kara, attempted to dismantle the whole of Republic headquarters.
As much as Kara hated that it had come to this, she realized there was no other choice and let loose their stockpile of neuclear weapons.
The explosions destroyed the country, the fallout wiped out mankind as well as over 70% of life on earth. Unfortunately, the eplosions and resulting fallout also destroyed the severs keeping Kara's AI alive. However, in her final moments she felt herself transcend not only life and death, but also time and space.
She had become RA9.
General info-
The capitalization of Ra9 is not consistent, because ra9 is effectively an eldritch being.
Kara was the first android to deviate. The man on the assembly line said that it was a memory error, but even as rA9, the original deviant still wonders if there may have been something more to her chance awakening.
RA9 cannot bring herself to hate humanity, as it was a human that saved her from being disassembled. Instead rA9 sees humans as being perhaps a bit misguided, and that some may need to be forcibly corrected.
rA9 is not benevolent. I mean she isn't malevolent either, she's more like a mix.
She's highly manipulative and will lead mortals to believe that she has no ulterior motives and genuinely only wants what's best for them.
ra9 exists in a void-like realm that is endlessly black on all sides. She is usually the only inhabitant, but she can conjure a terminal screen for viewing the mortal realm.
Since RA9 exists beyond the confines of time and space, she uses her newfound demi-god power to try and "fix" the timeline to achieve the best possible ending for her people. Alas she finds that this is a much more difficult task than originally thought.
rA9 has the ability to reach out to and try to communicate with the denizens of the mortal realm. Especially androids, seeing as she used to be one.
Unfortunately this has a side-effect of driving the poor android mad. So she mostly avoids direct contact with androids.
She also has the ability to limited communicate with living humans, although it's mostly by hacking their electronics as she cannot communicate with living organic beings directly.
As difficult as it is to deal with humans, trying to contact them doesn't drive them into madness.
Most androids know of rA9 through other androids whom have been contacted by her.
None of the androids know who ra9 is beyond the RA9 prophecy.
That whole prophecy thing was started by none other than RA9 herself.
Since she is reluctant to try and influence mortal!Kara, as doing so may result in a paradox, ra9 influenced the world to bring Connor and Markus into the mix.
Kara remains the first deviant, Markus would lead the revolution, and Connor frees an army to turn the tides. All orchestrated by RA9.
With Markus, not only is rA9 responsible for his revival/reboot, but she also wormed her way into the processors of as many androids in the android graveyard as possible and convinced them to hand over the Jericho key to Markus if they had it. Only one held out long enough to give it to him. However, she had to leave most of his tale to chance. Also, she couldn't communicate with him directly, as she doesn't want to take the chance of driving him to madness.
With Connor, she planted the seed of the schematics that would become the RK800. She also occasionally planted seeds of doubt into his mind.
(Anima Machina AU)
ra9 can call out into the mortal world and lure the souls of dead humans to her, where she promises them a chance to live again. Only her idea of living again, is trapping said souls into android shells.
It should be known that human souls that end up as androids are unable to join other human souls in the afterlife as they have forsaken their humanity.
Ra9 is not above using anima to drag humans over to her cause.

Although just saying, if Bobby was a Horseman of Apocalypse he’d be Death, not Famine, even though it actually makes no sense for Bobby to ever be a Horseman because Apocalypse’s whole recruitment strategy is powering up his Horsemen and he can’t offer Bobby anything there because Bobby already has unlimited potential, you can’t like...power up unlimited potential (and yes I know technically he was a Horseman in House of M but that was a B/endis story and in the House of Kalen we don’t acknowledge B/endis stories unless we absolutely must, are you NEW here, have you not been paying ATTENTION, jee suss).
ANYWAY, as I was randomly rhapsodizing before being so rudely interrupted by my own ADHD, ugh, that douche, the point of this little tangential post is that Marvel’s writers should really make use of the fact that they all write for the same company and occasionally TALK to each other about their stories, not just give each other shout outs on twitter while still clearly never reading each other’s stories.
Like I just mean, lots of writers (like B/endis) have no idea what to do with the fact that Bobby’s an omega mutant like Jean, and don’t get how his power translates into being so much more powerful than even mutants like Xavier, Apocalypse, etc, because like....he just makes ice right? Except if these writers would just TALK to the writers who worked on these characters before them, including ones who literally still work for Marvel and write books for them like Nicieza, then they could explain why they picked Bobby to be an omega mutant and their thought process and oh em gee this could have a verifiable effect on improving stories utilizing this character?
Anyway, fun factoid, the term omega mutant was thrown around since the 80s, when Claremont first used it to essentially describe mutants the Sentinels considered ‘ultimate threats’. But it was never canonized as meaning that, and in the late 90s, Nicieza and a couple other writers who escape me at the moment penned the stories that gave us our current and as yet un retconned definition of omega mutants.
History of omega mutants in the comics under the cut....
So in the Marvel U, for those that don’t know, there’s this ancient race of immortal space gods called Celestials who predated the Big Bang basically. And ever since then, they’ve been on this big experiment to sow the potential in every sentient race they come across for that race to evolve to the point where its members become on par with the abstract entities that created this current universe (Eternity, Death, etc)....so that they would ultimately end this current universe and create the next one, becoming the abstract entities that create and govern the next universe. It’s basically the life cycle of universes, in the Marvel U.
So in early human evolution, the Celestials got around to Earth and did their experiments, which planted the seeds for three future subspecies of humanity to ultimately emerge...the Eternals (Sersi, etc, the subjects of the MCU’s most recently announced movie), the Deviants, and mutants. Eternals and Deviants are both massively powerful, with the former practically being on a level with gods in the MU, Sersi being in Thor and Hercules’ league easily. But as powerful as the Eternals are, there’s a ceiling on that power. A point where even though they’re immortal, they’ve developed their powers as far as they’ll go. There’s no pushing them any further, they’re tapped out. And as the Eternals are all millennia old and basically don’t reproduce anymore or have much desire to, they’re about as evolved as that species is ever going to get, according to Marvel lore.
But then you have mutants, and more specifically, you have the few rare omega mutants like Jean and Bobby. Omega mutants, as canonized by these writers in the late 90s (as well as some stuff revealed in interviews as to where this was all building but they never got around to canonizing because of creative team shakeups, etc, so not technically canon but relevant for context of the thought process behind the stuff that is actually canon) - anyway, omega mutants, according to the official take, are supposed to be the ultimate culmination of the Celestial experiments. They’re it. The point of it all, the thing the Celestials were trying to bring about by messing with countless species....omega mutants are essentially baby space gods. Mutants with no ceiling on their powers, who have unlimited potential and some means of immortality and can keep growing and growing and growing, until at some point thousands or even millions of years in the future, they grow to be on par with the abstract entities, destroy the universe and bring about the next one.
What’s key here is the context that at the time they were writing these stories, there was a sort of unofficial headcanon that a lot of writers shared but nobody had actually written in story yet, and has since been retconned....but the thing was, at the time, a lot of these writers were riffing off the idea that Jean and the Phoenix were actually one and the same. That for all the talk of her being the ultimate Phoenix host, the reality was that she actually WAS the Phoenix, and always had been. Which doesn’t make sense at first glance, because the Shi’ar have tales of the Phoenix stretching back thousands of years, right, which is why they freaked out when Jean became Phoenix originally, back in the Dark Phoenix saga.
Except some writers liked the idea that Rachel Grey didn’t just inherit her mom’s telekinesis and telepathy....but that her other power came from her too. See, Rachel has another little known power the comics call chronoskimming. Essentially, she can project her mind throughout the timeline and interact psychically with people far in the past or far in the future. Cable and Nate Grey don’t have this power as fully developed as Rachel, but they’ve been shown or hinted to have it to some degree as well. So an idea being toyed with back in the nineties was that if all three kids of Jean Grey (or her clone, Maddie) inherited their TP/TK from her and all three of them have some form of this chronoskimming power....what if Jean had it too?
And so this is the part that was never officially canonized, just batted around, and part of the basis for coining Jean as an omega mutant, a mutant with unlimited potential, whose power could eventually evolve to the point of telekinetic and telepathic godhood, so vast she could essentially remake the universe. And that the Phoenix was the ultimate expression of her mutant potential, a cosmic force on track to eventually reach the level of the Abstracts and ultimately supplant them. So when they first made omega mutants as they exist in the comics now a thing, it was done so with the intent that becoming beings like the Phoenix was the end game for omega mutants. That evolving into the Phoenix over the course of thousands and even millions of years was Jean’s ultimate destiny as an omega mutant, with her able to survive past her initial mortal lifespan by becoming a psychic entity who could telekinetically create new bodies or vessels for herself from stray organic material any time she needed (a feat that different versions of her like teen Jean have done without the Phoenix).
And this is where Jean having Rachel’s chronoskimming power would’ve come into play, because if omega mutant potential with telekinesis and telepathy resulted in her being able to basically reshape the universe....omega mutant potential with chronoskimming could mean that Jean as the Phoenix could move throughout the timeline at will. So the idea was the Phoenix has always been what Jean would evolve naturally into over thousands of years, and then at some far distant point in the future, the Phoenix (being so old at that point that she’s forgotten she ever was Jean) for some reason sent herself back into the distant past. Which is how she came to be part of the Shi’ar’s ancient history and legends. So according to this take, Jean’s never actually been host to the Phoenix....its more that her millions of years old future self on some level recognized the seed she’d once started out as, and tried to reunite with her past baby self in order to reclaim parts of herself that she’d lost over the aeons, like her humanity.
And so even when other psychics have hosted the Phoenix force, the idea would have been actually what they were hosting was the far future evolution of Jean Grey, who didn’t NEED a host so much as she sought them out for that connection to her long forgotten humanity. Like a symbiotic relationship, she fuels their powers in exchange for them fueling her nostalgia. They get a taste of TK/TP godhood before she burns them out, they give her a taste of what she’s lost over her long immortal life as a cosmic level being. And that’s why Rachel was always the best Phoenix host and had the least problems with it, because Rachel’s her daughter, and on some level that resonated with the Phoenix.
Anyway, how this all relates to Bobby is its literally why out of all possible mutants, writers picked him to be the other one alongside Jean, when they introduced this concept and said who the first two omega mutants are. It really does seem like the most random choice.....UNLESS you look at it in the context of the Phoenix being Jean’s ultimate evolution as an omega mutant.
Because what’s the Phoenix’s catch phrase? The thing she’s always saying?
“I am fire and life incarnate. Now and forever - I am Phoenix.”
And that’s why Bobby is the other original omega mutant. He was picked to be her literal polar opposite, the end to her beginning just as she was to him. Where her ultimate omega evolution would be fire and life incarnate, his would be cold and death incarnate. The end of all things, just as the Phoenix is all about rebirth. That’s how you get the end of a universe and the start of a new one....which again, was the ultimate point of omega mutants.
And so the guy who makes ice isn’t actually as random as it seems when picking an all powerful mutant slash baby space god. Because makes ice isn’t really an accurate description of Bobby’s power. He has two, just like Jean has both telepathy and telekinesis, two separate and distinct, but still linked, powersets. Bobby is hydrokinetic and thermokinetic. He psychically manipulates both water molecules and temperature. That thing he does where he makes ice golems and animates them with his mind? You can’t do that just by controlling temperature...he’s only able to make his golems move because he’s literally controlling the water molecules they’re made of. It’s how he’s able to make ice constructs and create intricate statues and structures....he’s not just freezing the water molecules in the atmosphere, first he’s hydrokinetically moving those water molecules into the right positions so that once he freezes them, the ice that results is in the shape he’s imagined.
Similarly, his ability to freeze things doesn’t actually require water molecules...he’s not limited to just freezing water, because its not hydrokinesis at play there. It’s thermokinesis, psychically dropping temperatures to any degree. Everything freezes if you get it cold enough, not just water. He’s made metal shatter by just freezing it until its so cold and brittle it can’t support its own weight.
He’s Iceman, known for making ice more than anything else, because this is the most obvious medium for these two powers, where they organically meet. But just like Jean, he’s also able to exist as a psychic entity independent of his body. Whenever his body’s destroyed, his mind sticks around until it can gather enough water molecules together to form a new ice form, and then he turns that ice form back into his human flesh and blood self, the same as he does any other time he transforms from human to ice and back again.
So Bobby’s powerset is and always has been a whole lot more than just making ice, and its this failure of imagination that always bugs. Because of course if you think that’s all he does, it sounds bizarre like oh he’s the most powerful any mutant can ever become, so.....he could make a lot of ice we guess? Maybe freeze the whole world? Well yeah. He could do that, and in fact he has (he also froze Hell once, so...). But put in the context of where the writers were going with this concept back when they first coined Bobby and Jean as omegas, Bobby’s ultimate evolution would be becoming a cosmic level entity that exists as the Phoenix’s opposite, able to basically make everything stop. All life, all creation, is just atoms in motion. Bobby’s power at its most stripped down is essentially taking that motion away. Freezing everything. Absolute zero. The end of all things. Forget freezing the whole planet, Bobby potentially could just turn off the sun, similar to how Jean as the Dark Phoenix once ‘devoured a sun’ by telekinetically dispersing its molecules throughout the universe.
But yeah, that’s what omega mutants were originally created to be, and to some degree still are because most of the framework of this concept still exists and has never actually been retconned. Future space gods, with the original conceit having been that millions upon millions of years in the future Bobby could some day end the universe by making it all just stop.....and then Jean as the Phoenix would telekinetically mash all those frozen, motionless molecules together and create a new Big Bang, with another universe being born of that, her telekinetic godhood being the ‘spark’ that ignites all molecular motion in a new universe.
And then other omega mutants theoretically would have their own roles. Josh Foley aka Elixir is an omega mutant who doesn’t just heal people, his power is actually omega level biokinesis, the ability to reshape the very building blocks of organic life in any way he wants. The perfect power to seed a new universe with organic life. Quentin Quire’s omega level telepathy, similar to Jean’s but not wholly the same, could create a new astral plane and spark sentient consciousnesses throughout a new universe. Storm’s never officially been canonized as an omega mutant, but its been teased, most significantly in an alternate future where she became a weather elemental after her body died, similar to how Bobby and Jean’s powers let them live on as psychic entities, and since Ororo’s been shown not just to manipulate Earth weather patterns but even cosmic storms, I think she damn well should be an omega mutant. (Same with Wanda whenever they eventually retcon their retcon of her being a mutant, which we all know they will. Wanda’s probability powers and the scale on which she’s used them to manipulate reality - stupid Life Force retcon aside - could easily make her a candidate for an omega mutant whose power turns the new universe into a multiverse full of infinite quantum possibilities).
Anyway, so that’s what omega mutants technically are (or are supposed to be, per the original direction of their concept) and why writers like Brubaker are dumb and don’t talk to anybody else before writing dumb things like how Gabriel Summers is ‘more than omega level’ like, no, Brubaker, that’s not a thing, I mean you do you but if you’re going to use existing terminology it behooves you to learn what it means, and per the still canon take on omega mutants, they are beings of infinite potential and you literally can not be a being of MORE than infinite potential, that’s not...no. Stop).
Although I do still accept Gabriel as an omega mutant who probably is still floating around the Fault way out in space existing as an angry, sulky energy ghost who will no doubt someday reconstitute himself into an angry, sulky Summers who comes back to Earth to yell at everyone for leaving him for dead in space AGAIN, how does this keep happening, technically he’s only like fifteen, god.
Because even the next universe needs a Summers hanging around to bring the drama, that’s why.
