Elsie Carson-Holt at LGBTQ Nation:
Eighteen Republican state attorneys general are supporting a former high school teacher from Indiana who refused to comply with his school district’s trans student guidelines and lost his job because of it.
The Republican coalition, which is co-led by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, filed an amicus brief with the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, asking the judges to rule that the teacher’s religious freedom was violated. John Kluge, a former music teacher at Brownsburg High School, was told that he must use the correct name and pronouns for trans and nonbinary students. He requested a religious accommodation, claiming that it was against his religion as a Christian to use the correct name and pronouns of trans students. Kluge asked to be allowed to use last names—not first names or pronouns—for all students as an accommodation. But trans students noticed that he avoided talking to them altogether. According to one filing in the case, a trans student said Kluge’s behavior made him “feel alienated, upset, and dehumanized. It made me dread going to orchestra class each day.” Kluge resigned in 2018.
[...] The brief was signed by the attorneys general of Indiana, Kansas, West Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and South Dakota.
18 Republican AGs, led by Indiana’s Todd Rokita, have filed an amicus brief in support of a former Brownsburg High School teacher named John Kluge in the Kluge v. Brownsburg Community School Corporation case.
Kluge was fired for refusing to respect trans students’ names and pronouns.

Federal Court Backs Indiana Teacher Firing Over Refusal To Use Transgender Students’ Names, Pronouns – NBC Chicago
An Indiana school district did not violate a former music teacher's rights by pushing him to resign after the man refused to use transgender students' names and gender pronouns, a federal appeals court said in an order released Friday.
The decision from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a prior ruling in the case by a federal judge.
According to court records, John Kluge was hired in 2014 as the music and orchestra teacher for Brownsburg High School about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northwest of Indianapolis. In 2017, district officials began requiring the high school's teachers to use the names and pronouns listed in the school's official student database, where changes were permitted with letters from a student's parent and a doctor.
Kluge told the school's principal, Bret Daghe, on the first day of classes for the 2017 school year that he had a religious objection to using transgender students' names and pronouns. District officials agreed that Kluge could call students by their last name and would not be responsible for handing out orchestra clothing.
But at least two transgender students reported that Kluge's refusal to use their first names singled them out in front of peers and was hurtful. Other students, teachers and counselors also told officials that the issue made Kluge's classroom uncomfortable for many.
In January, the district told teachers that everyone would be required to use the names and pronouns listed for students in the database. In response to Kluge questioning whether the rule would also apply to him, officials told him he could abide by it, resign or be fired.
Kluge resigned and then sued the school for religious discrimination.

There was nice car show for Toys for Tots. Held in the parking lot of Kohl’s in Brownsburg. Well over 60 cars. Due to camera problems, I only got 16 pictures.
Beautiful day, with Mrs. and Mr. Claus in attendance. Price of admission was an unwrapped toy.
