Hi slug! I've been looking to do some casual tl/typesetting of a few manga pages (not hypmic related) lately. Could you or the team share some of your preferred font choices to use when typesetting? I'm curious! Thanks :)

Sure! I asked the old crew, and here's what they said.

Ash: wild words!! wild words!!! there is no font choice better for text bubbles than that. that’s my only solid answer tho sfx and stuff is subject to what i think fits best for the page…

Lari: man i love using different fonts for sfx so i have a bunch 📷 ones i use A LOT and can recomend: augie/kiddos font (for "casual" sfx like little noises); toonacious bb/trashHand (for a fun-looking sfx); rashkey/i want my ttr (for fighting sfx); and hangover monday/another (for "scary" sfx) i could go on for days tbh but these are the ones i remember!

Loopoctopus: Main texts: Wild Words for main text / Clementine for "thoughts" or "flashbacks", DigitalStrip for TV and phone text. SFX: Pea Lou and its variants for "looser" SFX, cursive fonts set to all caps for some neat looking "scary" / "action" fonts (HL Thuphap, Last Dance, Fontix), SF Slapstick/Creativeblock/BD Cartoon Shout for more traditional looking SFX or big dialogue/shouting Misc: Augie for side texts, Segoe UI for any digital text on phones Tiger: like everyone's said, you can't go wrong with wild words. for SFX it just depends on what looks the best and fitting to the scene. like if something's breaking you don't want some flowy handwritten text (though i guess it really does just depend on the fonf??) the fonts i remember i use for SFX are i want my ttr, paul maul, creativeblock, brushield/heaters, trashhand, kraash, true lies, other handwritten fonts... it rlly does just depend on the scene! i like to go crazy hsjdjs oh!! and i like augie and indiestar for stuff like small / extra dialogue bc they are cute :D
