Imagine, during Kendall's career day his mom was too busy to make it, so he didn't have anyone. So his best friends are like: you can share my mum/ dad!
Then when Katie's career day arrives, their mum is busy yet again (but they don't blame her), so kendall asks his friends if their parents can go instead, but they are all busy so kendall decides to go instead.
Since Katie's scheduled time for her parent is in the afternoon, kendall ditches school and runs to Katie's school, but he is slightly late. So Katie's class is just waiting when kendall suddenly bursts through the door and shouts: sorry I'm late! Some idiot tried to run me over as I was running across the road!
A few kids and parents recognize him because he's bagged their groceries a few times. Kendall explains his 'job' of being a big brother and his job at working at the supermarket.
Once he's done he sits with the other parents and Katie's teacher is like: don't you have to go back to school?
And Kendall's like: nope, schools practically over by now, so I'll chill here until Katie's done.

It's fun watching Big Time Rush while being familiar enough with The Monkees to be able to pick out a lot of the references to the show. There are so many quick little gags and moments (the "Carlos being pushed through the lobby in a bathtub" scene included in "Big Time Demos" for example) and entire plotlines ("Big Time Wedding") that you honestly miss if you don't already know it's a Monkees Thing.
And, I mean, the entire show was inspired by The Monkees, so really, the series as a whole is one big ol' homage, but I'm enjoying being able to catch some things here and there that I recognize. The matador costumes in "Big Time Photoshoot" are a favorite for sure.
(excuse the very poor quality of The Monkees pic; I could not find a better one)

watching big time rush through a queer lens is so wild. more specifically, james is a total gay stereotype with actual queer undertones.
james diamond is incredibly tv-flamboyant. he’s obsessed with his looks, likes fashion and shopping, is a theater kid, wants to be a pop star, and, of course, is an incredibly over-the-top. this is television, so of course he’s gonna have an exaggerated personality the same way everyone else on the show does. it just so happens that his exaggerated personality happens to align with many gay stereotypes.
at first glance, the idea of james actually being gay makes no sense since he’s supposed to be obsessed with girls and dating. when actually taking a look at the whole series, however, he never shows any actual interest in the women he goes out with, nor does he ever actually seem to want a real relationship until lucy. kendall and logan both have a true dynamic with their love interests, and carlos is constantly complaining about wanting to fall in love and be in a relationship and also seems to actually try to get to know the girls he goes out with.
meanwhile, james seems to only prefer the aesthetic of a relationship. from the first episode, his plan is to get rich and famous, marry a supermodel, and have five houses. his first “real” love interest is lucy, and even then that seems incredibly forced. the majority of their dynamic consists of him chasing her around, begging her to date him because they’d be a power couple until he finally wears her down (which, looking back, this show tends to be very misogynistic… that’s a topic for another day tho).
one way some people deal with internalized homophobia is by dating around, and others (like myself) deal with it by fixating all of their energy onto one person who they would probably never have a chance with. these are the only two ways that james engages in romance throughout the entire show. around the time he starts obsessing over lucy (if i remember correctly), he seems to realize that it’s strange that he’s never had a real girlfriend. i absolutely think these are related. (he also forces kendall to do romantic quizzes with him… but he’s still really bad at them from what i remember. gay men are extremely self-centered /j.)
if anyone has anything to add or dispute, please feel free! thank you for listening to my ramblings about how my first comphet crush is also gay lol.

Lucy: how do you guys usually get out of these messes?
BTR: we don’t
Camille: they just make a bigger mess that cancels the first one out

For the girlies and gays that are curious💖🌸✨
In the 1970’s there was a TV show music group similar to Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush.
So think everything in the Big Time Rush show: absurd comedy, flirty boys, they’re own music, and weird sit com plots. And yes, they were in fact a real music group outside of the show, I went to concert of their’s when I was younger.
So enjoy your deep dive into The Monkees🌟
