Since tumblr launched polls there have been a lot of ship and character polls, and some include BTVS! A recent tournament for the AO3 top femslash ships included Tillow (Tara x Willow) and Fuffy (Faith x Buffy). In Round 3 Tillow lost, but Fuffy pulled out a win, by only 20 votes.

As part of the tournament there are downloadable data sets and line graphs. The line graphs are for every single poll, showing the votes over time for both ships in each round.

You can see above once Tillow reaches about 1,000 votes the other ship gets a strong lead and never looks back.

On the other hand, the Fuffy matchup was fairly close the entire round. The lead keeps changing between Fuffy and the Amity/Luz (from The Owl House) ship.

Are these parallels particularly meaningful? No. Do I care? Also no.

I've been reading various conversations over whether or not Data has had emotions in some form or another the whole time or not because it's the exact kind of historical fandom conversation I love to study and it's WILD to me how little people are bringing up Lal in what I've seen so far. I've seen people mention things like Tasha's death, Spot in general, the Most Toys and In Theory episodes but so far I've only seen Offspring mentioned on here and in 1 youtube comment.

Now I haven't even seen any of these episodes yet, I'm still in season 1 and only just now coming up to Tasha's death but I know enough about things to know that Lal should REALLY be the center of this debate along with the fact that he ???? wants these emotions to begin with? because why would an emotionless android want that to begin with?

But regardless of that part just -- Lal and Data's desire for a child, how he interacts with her, his reactions to her death are all logically really good fodder for this conversation????

And on top of that even if you take the stance that the show SAYS he has no emotions and that any we see are either his in-universe mimicry or a product of human (and thus emotional) writers and actors -- he DOES UPLOAD LAL'S BRAIN INTO HIS. SO LOGICALLY HE NOW HAS AT LEAST SOME CONCEPT OF/CAPACITY FOR EMOTION. While he didn't really get that from the uploading of the colonists minds when he was made, given the different context and how much more compatible her brain is to his and how IMPORTANT things like her feelings were to her existence it's INSANE to think they didn't get copied over into him and INSANE to think it doesn't impact him in some way.

Like via having her memories/experiences/programming in his own head now and the fact that she CANONICALLY experienced things like love and fear he AT MINIMUM now has experience with feeling those things even if second hand and now also has INPUT which would be processed by his subconscious functions and likely Do Something to him in the long run.

Just like --- even if you're a hardliner that he didn't feel emotions until the chip i just feel like you gotta explain Lal just like IN GENERAL and also how the FUCK having her mind downloaded into his wouldn't SOMEHOW effect his capacity for emotions.

9 - How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I loved the VF1-J from Robotech when I was 12 (back in '84) so I Mary Sue-d myself into a fic where (naturally) I was an ace pilot. The song "Chicks Dig Giant Robots" was written especially for 12-year-old me.

Then I started writing digitally in 2000, and published one or two Galaxy Ranger fics back in the days of webrings (this was also when I discovered just how much Germans adored Galaxy Rangers). But I stopped writing after a major data loss, and only resumed again a year ago, this time with Enterprise. And then only because of encouragement from other writers.

So, it's kind of sad that I spent ~20 years not writing (but thinking up a whole OC world) and yet never writing down any of it because I never considered myself a creative writer, just a daydreamer.

10 - Is there a character or ship you'd love to write for, but haven't yet?

I definitely want to write for Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard of SGA, but there are so many absolutely amazing fics about them that I don't know if I ever will. Also:

Oooh, and a suggestion I saw yesterday that has caught my imagination: Major Lorne and Radek Zelenka from SGA. Now that is a rarepair I can get behind!

Actually, thinking of Kavan Smith makes me think of his role in Eureka, and that reminds me I wanna write Jo Lupo and Zane Donovan ... the decision is whether it'd be the first or second timeline as that affects the Zane in question.

Also I want to return to Goose and Niko from Galaxy Rangers and see what I can do with the Super Trooper and telepathy/telekinesis storylines.

Definitely Princess/Jason and probably, by now, a throuple with Mark, from Battle of the Planets (I know their names are different in Gatchaman, but BotP/G-Force was what was shown in South Africa & Botswana and that's how I know them. But it makes writing them and fitting into the fandom(s) a tad difficult.)

Oh, and Rick/Lisa and Max/Miriya from Robotech (going full circle because Miriya switching from a Battleroid to a VF1-J when she changed from Zentraedi to human and she and Max became the deadliest duo in the skies had a lot to do with that first Mary Sue fic).

That was too much, I know. But I have no regrets! Especially because I actually wrote stuff for the last three, plus High Mountain Rangers, plus Remington Steele, and Goonies, and even a bit of horror and sibling heroism from Under The Mountain, so clearly I had something I wanted to say.

(I wasn't kidding about the song. I might have been in my 30s when this came out, but it was definitely something my tween self would have loved. Also it has Michael Dorn as the R.E.G.U.S. Mark-V so what's not to like?)

BTVS ships episode count review

I was thinking about Buffy's 3 main ships (to me): Bangel v. Spuffy v. Fuffy. I was wondering how many episodes (BTVS or ATS) where each ship has scenes together. Then inspired by these two polls I decided to add in two other non-Buffy ships: Gethan and Spangel.

Kudos to the Fuffy and Gethan shippers, who are working with not a TON of episodes with scenes together. Especially Gethan shippers, who only have 4 canon episodes! To be fair, Spangel fans only had 13 until S5 of ATS.

Summary ship episode count: Spuffy (Spike x Buffy): 71 Bangel (Buffy x Angel): 49 Spangel (Spike x Angel): 35 Fuffy (Faith x Buffy): 21 Gethan (Giles x Ethan): 4

Any blatant negative ship comments, like calling a specific ship indecent will get you blocked. Ship and let ship. Other comments welcome.

What's the Universe? The TV Buffyverse. (BTVS TV or ATS TV eps, the comics and books don’t count.)

How to start? I started with the pre-count. The pre-count is episodes where both characters in the ship appeared.

Spuffy pre-count: 96 (inc. 0 on ATS) Bangel pre-count: 56 (inc. 2 on ATS) Spangel pre-count: 42 (inc. 22 on ATS) Fuffy pre-count: 21 (inc. 1 on ATS) Gethan pre-count: 4 (inc. 0 on ATS)

How to verify? I did not rewatch all the episodes! I rewatched a few, after checking transcripts, recaps, and ship gif pages.

What doesn't count? Someone talking about the other person, because I am not trying to include the various episodes where Faith is haunting the show. They must appear in a scene together for it to count. They must both be fully aware of each other. Shared dreams (like the Fuffy ones) do count, but regular dreams do not. Buffy Bot, Wishverse Buffy, and FirstEvil Buffy do not count. I treated Faith and Buffy as their "mental" selves during the two body swap episode scenes. Also I treated Angel the same as Angelus and soul-less Spike the same as soul-ed Spike.

She has 5 Buffy-less episodes on ATS. I did count the dream sequence in 3x22 Graduation Day Part 2 because I read it as a shared dream. They are both aware of the other.

Gethan (Giles x Ethan) 4 total S1: 0 / S2: 2 / S3: 1 / S4: 1 / S5: 0 / S6: 0 / ATS: 0 Similar to Faith, whenever Ethan appears in an episode, he will have a scene with Giles.

DHAKA, July 19 (Reuters) - The Bangladesh government has decided to impose a curfew across the country and deploy the army, BBC Bangla reported on Friday, citing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's press secretary, amid widening student-led protests against government job quotas.

An official decision regarding the curfew would be issued soon, the prime minister's press secretary, Nayeemul Islam Khan, told BBC Bangla.

Three people were killed in the country on Friday as police cracked down on unrelenting student-led protests against government job quotas despite a ban on public gatherings, local media said.

Police fired tear gas to scatter protesters in some areas, Reuters journalists said. One said he could see many fires across the capital Dhaka from a rooftop and smoke rising into the sky in several places.

Telecommunications were also disrupted and television news channels went off the air. Authorities had cut some mobile telephone services the previous day to try to quell the unrest.

Bengali newspaper Prothom Alo reported train services had been suspended nationwide as protesters blocked roads and threw bricks at security officials.

Violence on Thursday in 47 of Bangladesh's 64 districts killed 27 and injured 1,500.

The total number of those dead from the protests reached 105 on Friday night, AFP separately reported, citing hospitals. Reuters could not immediately verify the reports and police have not issued a casualty toll.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka said that reports indicated more than 40 deaths and "hundreds to possibly thousands" injured across Bangladesh.

In a security alert, it said protests were spreading, with violent clashes being reported across Dhaka. The situation was "extremely volatile", it said.

The protests initially broke out over student anger against quotas that set aside 30% of government jobs for the families of those who fought for independence from Pakistan.

The nationwide unrest - the biggest since Hasina was re-elected this year - has also been fuelled by high unemployment among young people, who make up nearly a fifth of a population of 170 million.

Some analysts say the violence is now also being driven by wider economic woes, such as high inflation and shrinking reserves of foreign exchange.

The protests have opened old and sensitive political fault lines between those who fought for Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan in 1971 and those accused of collaborating with Islamabad.

The former include the Awami League party of Hasina, who branded the protesters "razakar" - making use of a term that described independence-era collaborators.

International rights groups criticised the suspension of services and the action of security forces. The European Union said it is deeply concerned by the violence and loss of life.

"It is vital that further violence is averted and that a peaceful resolution to the situation is found as swiftly as possible, underpinned by the rule of law and democratic freedoms," it said in a statement.

Neighbour India said the unrest was an internal matter of Bangladesh and that all 15,000 Indians in that country were safe. Indians studying in Bangladesh were returning by road.

Violence linked to the protests also broke out in distant London, which is home to a large Bangladeshi population, and police had to quell clashes between large groups of men in the east of the British capital.

TELECOMS DISRUPTED, WEBSITES HACKED

Friday began with the internet and overseas telephone calls being crippled, while the websites of several Bangladesh newspapers did not update and were also inactive on social media.

A few voice calls went through, but there was no mobile data or broadband, a Reuters journalist said. Even text messages were not being transmitted.

News television channels and state broadcaster BTV went off the air, although entertainment channels were normal, he said.

Some news channels displayed a message blaming technical problems, and promising to resume programming soon.

The official websites of the central bank, the prime minister's office and police appeared to have been hacked by a group calling itself "THE R3SISTANC3".

"Operation HuntDown, Stop Killing Students," read identical messages splashed on the sites, adding in crimson letters: "It's not a protest anymore, it's a war now."

Another message on the page read, "The government has shut down the internet to silence us and hide their actions."

The government had no comment on the communications issues.

On Thursday, it had said it was willing to hold talks with the protesters but they refused.

Many opposition party leaders, activists, and student protesters had been arrested, said Tarique Rahman, the exiled acting chairman of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Reuters could not confirm the arrests.
