Musical Monday

1976 has come and gone by so quickly! This week's musical is the final one to be highlighted for this awards year and probably the lesser-known title among the four Best Musical nominees. However, with a sweet title and a cast recording to boot, this week's Musical Monday selection might be the right dose to fill cure your otherwise Monday blues.

Musical: Bubbling Brown Sugar

Broadway Run: March 2, 1976 - December 31, 1977

Awards Won: Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Vivian Reed)/1976 Theatre World Award (Chip Garnett, Vivian Reed).

Other: In addition to Best Musical, Bubbling Brown Sugar received Tony nominations for Best Actress in a Musical (Vivian Reed) and Best Choreography (Billy Wilson).

Fun Fact: Loften Mitchell's sole Broadway credit Is Bubbling Brown Sugar.

I have added Bubbling Brown Sugar to my list of "To Listen to" albums, and am hoping it will be a fun choice to experience. Next week brings us smack dab into 1977, where the sun came out for a cast that was clearly fully dressed with a smile while three others watched from their seats. Until then, go see a show!
