Bucchigiri's author is like me with my ocs. Whenever they remember something bad of their lives they probably give ++damage to Matakara, a reason as for why it could be their fave

Note
One thing I really want to know is where matakara's parents are - they're not even mentioned. I thought that was a bit strange - we're on episode 8 and no mention of them.
To be perfectly honest, even Mata’s bio says that he only has his brother as his only living relative. Episode 2 says that he and his brother were lucky enough to have relatives to take care of them.
And then there’s the one flashback of the Asamine bros making gyoza:

Which more or less confirms that they only have each other to rely on.

Mahoro, Matakara, Aladdin and the Princess
I think Episode 8 finally confirmed to me that the role of the Princess in the Aladdin allusion was actually split between Mahoro and Matakara, rather than it being one or the other. There's a reason why they're both represented by Jasmine-chan during the Nyan Nyaight Love cutaways!
Preface; imo Bucchigiri's narrative takes inspiration from both Disney's Aladdin and the original Aladdin story, so I'm going to switch the Princess's name depending on which version of her I'm referring to. So Jasmine -> Disney's Aladdin, and Badroulbadour -> 1001 Nights Aladdin.
From what I saw in the 1001 Nights Aladdin, Badroulbadour didn't have much of a personality, so it makes sense that a lot of Mahoro and Matakara's personalities were taken from Jasmine, while their roles in the story were slightly more influenced by Badroulbadour.
Mahoro: The feistier side of Jasmine. She has a sharp tongue and always speaks her mind, regardless of potential danger. Eg. Mahoro stands up to Akutaro after he gains the upper hand on both gangs, similarly to how Jasmine refuses to bow to Jafar when he becomes Sultan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's also regarded as pretty desirable, and has charmed several men to get them to do what she wants (something that both Jasmine and Badroulbadour do at some point to trick Jafar/the sorcerer). Arajin falls for Mahoro at first sight, similarly to how both versions of Aladdin fell for both versions of the Princess, and like Aladdin his crush on her becomes his driving motivation throughout the series. Akutaro also talks about turning her into a NG Girl and…abusing her, a la Jafar. Ik it's just to trigger Arajin but yk what I mean!
Matakara: The gentler, more naive side of Jasmine, in that he trusts/believes in Arajin...a lot more than he should, really. The main 'lying' plot point between Disney's Aladdin and Jasmine is directly implemented into Matakara and Arajin's relationship. On a surface level there's also their blue colour schemes and phonetically similar names (Asamine -> Jasmine). Near the climax of the 1001 Nights version, the sorcerer tricks Badroulbadour into giving him the lamp with the genie in it, similarly to how Akutaro manipulates Matakara into shooting himself with Ichiya. Both actions trigger a Very Bad Turn of Events that Aladdin stops/will have to stop with the help of his own genie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also very interesting how Ichiya has a moon motif, and Badroulbadour's name is a metaphor for female beauty meaning 'full moon of full moons'. Totally not losing my fucking mind over that no sir
Though they both fit the Princess allusion, the entire show is screaming that Matakara is Arajin's true Jasmine, and Arajin is going to realise he was what he needed all along. Honestly, it doesn't get more obvious than Episode 9.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's not to mention how Mahoro and Matakara also have many, many parallels to each other via their relationships with Arajin. (Both visit him one-on-one at his mom's restaurant to convince him to do something and order the exact same dish, Arajin thinks of child Matakara after seeing both current Matakara and Mahoro get hurt, his meetings with both of them are juxtaposed with one another and described as a 'fated meeting' in this trailer, etc.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aside from that, there's also a lot of little stuff that the two have in common! (Both suck at cooking, both deeply care about their older siblings, both are cute as hell etc etc.)
(it's also pretty neat how they're technically both the respective 'princesses' of Minato Kai and Siguma, being the younger siblings of the leader/former leader of each gang!)

Winter 2024 Anime Review
Tumblr media
Solo Leveling - 24 Episodes
This has been and will be my most anticipated series. We've only scratched the surface of the story and people are going nuts. I've been reading the light novel translations for a while now and I'm not even a little ready for when certain things are animated.
Easily one of the best anime adaptations out there. More to look forward to.
Sidenote - A1 is killing the animations considering it's one of their bigger ones in a while.
Also - they did a really solid job with the sound design, a lot of the timing made certain scenes feel just that much more intense.
9/10 - Amazing
Tumblr media
Frieren - 28 episodes
Such a unique watching experience.
I think so many shows these days are fast paced, and action oriented, especially within the fantasy genre. This is such a relaxing and enjoyable watch.
The story is moving and the animations are warm and fuzzy.
Not much I'd change about the series.
10/10 - Masterpiece
Tumblr media
The Apothecary Diaries - 24 Episodes
The second half of this series kept up with the flow of the first half really well. I feel like that shouldn't be a feat but it really is these days.
I genuinely love watching the subtleties of the romance in this series and the medical mystery cases are just as fun to watch.
The story has so many little bits and pieces working throughout the show and the last episode had me wrecked for reasons I never saw coming.
Just overall a big fan of this series.
9/10 - Amazing
Tumblr media
Delicious in Dungeon - 12/24 Episodes
This series has no right to be this much fun.
The animations match the energy of the show so well and I think it's one of the best "entertainment" series of the season.
I was worried it would start to repeat itself but found that the characters become the highlight of the series and I looked forward to every episode.
(This is the series this season that I'm high-key obsessed with.)
8.5/10 - Very Good+
Tumblr media
Shangri-La Frontier - 25 Episodes
One of the most fun looking MMORPG animes I've seen. I remember reading the teaser manga a while ago and was stoked to see it animated. Just a genuinely well done gamer oriented series.
They do such a good job at showing exactly the kinds of small things gamers pay attention to and some of the combat learning is stellar.
Not to mention the sound track honestly did not need to go as hard as it did?!
Really hoping they continue on with this for another season.
8/10 - Very Good
Tumblr media
Bucchigiri?! - 12 Episodes (Updated)
I haven't seen any coverage for this show for some reason. It's a one shot that Mappa animated. The story felt quite slow but I personally had fun with it, the character design was satisfying - gives a bit of Jojo's and SK8 vibes. After a few weeks I couldn't stop thinking about it and went back - it ends up being a decently satisfying story. It's rare to see single season shows and I think that was really refreshing.
(Opening and ending are both bangers)
7.5/10 - Good+
Mashle - Season 2 - 12 Episodes
I decided to watch this once all the episodes had aired. I found that it's not one you can be in the mood to watch all the time, but when you are it's just as hilarious as the first season.
I've enjoyed the pacing of the story and I'm looking forward to future seasons.
7.5/10 - Good+
Unwanted Undead - 12 Episodes
Another series I read the manga for when it premiered. There's something about this series that gets me hooked. While the animations aren't anything of note, I find the story is oddly unique and I ended up bingeing all the episodes in one go. Definitely one I'm curious to see where it goes.
7/10 - Good
Tumblr media
Mr. Villain's Day Off - 12 Episodes
This is purely for my own personal interest in attractive moody villains with alter ego's. It's a lot of fun to watch and it's just so wholesome.
That's it.
7/10 - Good

Wind Breaker really looks like something I might like, but every time I read a comment from someone using it to badmouth Bucchigiri, I lose all desire to give it a chance.
Bucchigiri isn't perfect, it has its flaws, but all the hate the show has received seems like an exaggeration to me.
JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIKE ARAJIN(it's almost always that)
I know that he's not exactly a pleasant character, and this is said by someone who doesn't like him at first either, he's a character that you have to take your time to understand.
I mean… have you ever wondered what it must feel like to have abandoned a person you love? And not only that, suddenly having to face that person almost every day, reliving the traumatic event that separated you every time you see him while noticing that (APPARENTLY) his life has only gotten better since you left?
I know that the anime may not be so explicit about Arajin's guilt, but the devil is in the details, in how the trauma turned into discomfort, in how he neglected his physical condition, even though being more visually attractive would have helped him get the girlfriend he so desperately claimed to want. Probably because something as simple as an exercise routine inevitably reminded him of Matakara.
Why does he react in a hostile manner towards Matakara? again, it's facing his trauma and the fact that he failed him as a friend, seeing Matakara triggers his trauma, it's basically PTSD generating a reject reaction that instinctively makes him want to walk away AT ANY COST, without even thinking if it might hurt the feelings of someone(Episode 8).
And speaking of Matakara, you can see how despite his rejection, Arajin still cares about him, like when he runs to catch him when he falls unconscious after his fight with Jabashiri or when he tries to distract Marito.
And his obsession with Mahoro? That also has an explanation, if you pay attention, Arajin's falling in love is not as spontaneous as it might seem at first glance, falling in love with someone is not the same as SEEKING to fall in love. It's the first thing the character talks to us about, because behind his desire to lose his virginity lies the desire for a real connection with someone, most likely a way to fill the gap left by the bond he and Matakara once shared. Why is Arajin still after Mahoro at the end? there are two answers… 1-It is normal that after finally recovering his own courage he wants to try again. 2-We all know that Arajin isn't the brightest bulb in the store, so he probably hasn't realized yet that his falling in love with her was more of a way to escape his guilt than something real.
Am I justifying how he acts? NO, but once you notice this it's easier to understand why he acts the way he does.
By the way… do people know that Aladdin, THE CHARACTER ON WHICH ARAJIN IS MAINLY BASED, wasn't necessarily an exemplary young man in the original story, right?

BUCCHIGIRI?! Episode 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arajin's been a pretty consistently bad person for the whole series, but I DO think he's in the right and has a point in this argument. He's made himself pretty blatantly clear that he's not who Matakura keeps saying he is and has been PRETTY CONSISTENT in showing his cowardice actions throughout the series. Matakura remained in denial for 8 episodes, and it's also equally unhealthy how much he puts Arajin on a pedestal and tries to force him to be the ideal image he's built Arajin up to be despite all evidences pointing to the contrary. It sucks, but Arajin's right in this argument.
Unfortunately, this is the breaking point for Matakura. The other genie now has his eyes on Matakura's physical abilities and wants to possess his body, which is now leading to a fight these two will have to do.
