So we decided to sell our trailer and focus on the F150 for our overlanding needs. Why, you may ask… well that is an easy answer, the trailer is GREAT for space, however it is such a challenge turning around on really tight trails where there is a big drop on one side and a bank on the other!

So Truck it is, now we can explore all these little trails and find cool remote areas to camp in!

Beach Camping: Night Two . Was an on and off day as far as wind and sun, though I had a great afternoon putzing around and riding about six miles down the beach and back on my bike, talking to the few folks here from all over North America. . Tomorrow is forecast to be cloudy. When I have cell service, I like checking forecast.weather.gov, the NOAA weather forecast, updated just before the top of every hour. If I’m in an area with spotty service, I check it when I can and screen shot the forecast for the area I’m in and where I plan to go over the next few days. . It’s always been accurate and helps me plan. It’s a good, detailed forecast with wind, temp, and predicted precipitation. . I want to explore more around here, so chose to put out the awning and stay over. . The symmetry and coverage of my Bunduawn 360 is something I appreciate and love seeing every time I set it up. It’s a balance thing and feels right. . Swipe for images showing a simple step-by-step of how it sets up. . I may regret this, though. . Because I decided to set out the awning and stay over another night, I unhitched and went into town for supplies. Then when backing up to line up to the awning the way I like, so the back doors of my van line up with my galley table, I got myself a mired in the softer sand at the shoulder of the beach where I’d parked last night. . I heard a crack when backing up easy, on ground I’d already driven on. I figured it was a branch or the board I’d put as a backing up marker. But it wasn’t. I’m sure as hell hoping that come daylight I don’t find I snapped something in my axle and positraction. . I’ll mess with it in the morning. . There’s always something to deal with when you live on the road for extended periods and put yourself out there in new places, trying new things. . Basecamp Setup . . Just found this view of the whole setup as used recently and see I’ve not posted it before. Shows the full OzTent RV-5 hooked to the Bunduawn and Roofnest Eagle popped up. Not included here is the yet to be installed van awning or sidewalls to either awning, vastly increasing possible arrangements for basecamp and workshops. Also coming will be a multi-purpose pop top on the van. . Typical Morning Scene at Basecamp Roaddude . Cool view showing the awesome coverage of the @bundutecusa #Bunduawn 360, which covers *both* ends of my trailer equally and sticks out almost 8’ in each direction. I have triangle extensions that attach to the HD hook and loop to square off each end if I want. Great to have for sun or rain, I then have about 16’ across on each end by 24’ long on the galley side. . I’m working on a design for an add-on ground annex to attach to my @Roofnest Eagle on the other side so I have covered access and a changing room that covers the ladder area. . I LOVE my setup. It is SO extremely versatile and adaptable to any situation I’ve had.. . There are a ton of ways to set it up. . I can use just the Roofnest #rtt if a quick stopover; just the awning for shade on a hot or rainy day to grab a quick lunch somewhere; awning with extensions (I have side screens and solid side panels too) for longer basecamp stays or storm situations; just the galley table setup for preparing meals; or set it all up. . I’ve got it down to where I can set up the entire arrangement above, eating and cooking area with running water and all, in less than half an hour. WithOUT busting my butt to do it. . That’s pretty damned awesome for the way I like to camp and travel. .
