Damn man, the mayor of black Bohemia has become an ancestor. I was going to try to write this in the Afro futuristic style of Mr. Greg Tate, but I can’t do it. Nobody can do it like our good brother. Today I share in the shock and sadness that has washed over every dope writer/music critic that he influenced but I also share, along with them, a profound sense of gratitude. Mannnnn, I used to flip through Rolling Stone and the Village Voice looking for Greg’s name, a name I trusted. He wrote about pop culture and ALL black music in a way that reflected his knowledge, dedication and love for US and what we create. Finding good pieces on Hip Hop in the 80s was hard but Greg always delivered and he gave the culture the respect it deserved when a lot of mainstream writers didn’t take it seriously. He really cared and his words opened us up to the diversity of black music. Because of him, I learned about all kinds of sounds. He wasn’t shy about pointing us to other incredible writers and musicians. I engaged with him a few times on social media and I was honored every time he took the time to drop those jewels. My admiration for the writing and the spirit of Greg Tate cannot be overstated. The cosmos has gained a brother like no other. Rest In Power to the great and kind scribe Greg Tate. My sincere condolences to all family, friends and colleagues. #burntsugararkestra #blackrockcoalition #ripgregtate https://www.instagram.com/lyfestile7/p/CXMmqtLl3YK/?utm_medium=tumblr
Get me in a room with @mazzmuse and the questions just roll out of me. We've been friends for years and have worked together plenty, but she always brings that Mazz Thing that just puts her over the top creatively. Where the hell did THAT come from? She was kind to share her story from her home studio in BK on Episode 4, as well as giving credit where it's due: amazing times with @burntsugararkestra and @nowhearin, with a cameo by some goats. The world is fortunate to have a #MazzSwift in it, making the noise that only she can. . . . #mazzmuse #violin #jazz #jazzmusic #thafonk #funk #soul #playitlikeitsmusic #musician #musicteacher #musicmajor #musicvideo #artist #listenlocal #workinmusic #musicbiz #musicjob #soundcheck #miccheck — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2zMPHdH
