skimming some asm (650-651, 658 etc) as reference for a suit

there's a reason dan slott is one of my least favorite marvel writers lmfao
650-651 were okay.
658 is not even okay. It just sucks. And it's a great precursor example of the exact same shit that plagued his Fantastic Four run. Just, completely unfunny, uncaring, and shallow. Reading this, how can I be surprised he whiffed Johnny so badly in vol. 6? The night and day difference between these, and his Spider-Man/Human Torch comic, is baffling to behold. ASM 658 is dogshit by comparison lmao (and most of Johnny's treatment in Slott's F4 run is just as bad.)
#like the big time suit may be sexy and honestly though i mostly skimmed it the general plot was okay. not the worst.#but 658 so far is just PEAK example of why i find his writing so insufferable and tepid 90% of the time#when he gets he can get it pretty well but when he doesn't get it (which is most of the time) it's just a slog to read#his jokes aren't funny. he uses humor to cushion misogyny. his characterization is inconsistent. his dialogue is annoying.#nadia reads comics#and a great example why his petulant ''but you liked this other thing i did so you can't criticize anything i do'' shtick is so annoying#because when he misses he misses HARD and he misses most of the time#a few polished nuggets doesn't make a pile of shit into a hoard of gold you know ????#my other least favorite writer is john byrne for—honestly? some similar reasons though not entirely#zeb wells is on thin ice. i think he's a bad writer but like. in a b-movie kind of way???#like is his work good? no. do i even enjoy reading most of it? not really...? but i can glean more enjoyment out of like#new ways to live than i can out of spider-man worldwide you know???#can't judge his current stuff though i haven't been keeping up and i don't plan to start now#let me be clear though: new ways to live is not good XD#but it was fun#dan slott's stuff is often both not good and not fun
