i know i say 'i wanna make a video essay about xyz' like once every three months and i've never followed through but hoooly shit i want to make a video essay on queerbaiting in gacha games
#i dont care if they hold hands in canon theyre only doing that as a marketing tactic#but alsooooo censorship is a real issue and representation is great#but then again you can literally see character design philosophies changing with a game's demographics changing#but also theres differing cultural contexts and expectations of what a 'queer character' really is#none of these things come to any coherent point but theyre things people dont TALK ABOUT#i think this is partially because genshin/hsr has little overlap in its playerbase with other gachas#so people will play them and think wow. representation. no other game from the continent of asia does this.#and partially because nobody in these spaces knows much about queer coding from non-western perspectives#like they'll just miss out on huge yuri tropes and then at the same time catch tropes but get stressed about explaining them#when they could just point to so many other works that are being referenced. but they dont know about them#SORRY FOR PUTTING THE VIDEO ESSAY IN THE TAGS#j rambles#ignore me#its like im not even the right person to make this essay BUT NOBODY ELSE WILL APPARENTLY so.
