1. Why did you choose your url?

My name is Danika and a 4 year old English girl once, 15+ years ago, called me Danicat. I loved that so much that it's been my username most places since. It used to be danicat91 bc it wasn't available without numbers, but I hated the numbers so I changed it to the German version Danikatze a few years ago. (it's daanikatze on twitter and ig)

@danifanatic where I rb stuff is the only active one. I have another where I collect art refs/advice and only to never look at it anymore. And another one where I posted original art but that one's dead too (I don't make enough original art and I prefer posting it here anyway)

.. bc I wanted to post nsfw stuff and I heard this is where I could do it hehe. I deleted most of it since then. I had a nsfw sideblog for a bit, but I deleted that too a few years ago bc it was dying anyway and then the porn ban happened and I got sick of it.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

I love (and in some ways relate to) Shino and he's wearing one of my favourite hoodies in that one. Just really pleased with that drawing overall!

I thought it was cute and Wai just makes me happy :) (She's kinda my air bison oc? My best friend gave me an Appa plushie and it looked nothing like him, and so Wai was born ^^)

Once, wwwaay in the beginning.. I followed someone who kept bullying one of their friends. I told them said friend didn't seem to think it was funny at all, and they told me to mind my own business, after which I unfollowed them. I've learned to just unfollow people when their blog makes me anxious in whatever way (if I can't blacklist the stuff that makes me uncomfortable)

15. How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?

I skip those very quickly, or maybe see if I can rb another version.

Funny enough at the time tumblr was the only social media with gif support and I really liked them so initially this was just a blog for relogging cute or funny GIFs but after a while I noticed a lack of asexual presence here and thought hey why not? and started posting dumb puns and jokes centred around being ace

6) why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran Highschool Host Club is one of my fav anime characters of all time and I headcanon her as ace so it fit at the time but I have been recently thinking of changing it to a male anime character to reflect my gender. I need to find one I like as much tho.

Ace blog... ace flag 👌 nice. Fun fact: I pretty much haven't updated my blog's appearance at all since I started it.

1. Why did you choose your url?

Long story short: My ex came up with it by accident by making fun of (in good spirit) people giving characters in MMORPGs weird names. I liked it, so I kept it. He thought it was funny.

2. Any side-blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.

Since I had to make a new blog (yes, I’m still a bit pissed Tumblr deleted my old blog without warning or reason) I only remade one of my old side-blogs: @iamdoctorstephenstrange. It’s a Doctor Strange ask-blog that answers asks with little drawings of Stephen answering to the asker.

3. How long have you been on Tumblr?

Uhh … I think since 2015 or 2016, because I was a sheltered little German only using German fandom sites before that (except for FFN, which, I realized soon enough, is a dumpster fire). Yes, I know. No need to drag me.

4. Do you have a queue tag?

No. If I queue something, it’ll have the usual tags I use when simply reblogging stuff. Also, I rarely use the queue. You either deal with my reblogging sprees that occur every blue moon or you unfollow/block me.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

Because Tumblr seems to be the only website to connect with fandom folks nowadays, except for Twitter. And New xKit makes it way easier to curate your experience than the block and blacklist function on Twitter. Even though New xKit is kinda fucked since the last big Tumblr update. Also, there was pr0n when I joined. And I draw pr0n occasionally. So this was a website where I could upload my stuff. Until I couldn’t. Yes, I’m salty.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Because I’m here, I’m queer, and I don’t care. I also art occasionally, so it seemed like a good idea to draw my own icon.

Not on Tumblr. I don’t count the hate anons that occasionally crawl into my inbox, because, frankly, Idgaf anymore. I’m also far too old and tired to fight.

I ignore them, because this shit usually has the opposite effect on me. I don’t like being guilt-tripped. I also want to keep my blog my happy place with as little negativity as possible.

Depends on the tag game. Currently I feel guilty, because @kiki-shortsnout tagged me multiple times already and I think I never did one of the tag games she tagged me in. I usually like them, but I simply … don’t have the energy. Depression and executive dysfunction are bitches I never needed in my life, but they’re here anyway. Like parasites.

17. Do you like ask games?

Usually yes, but they need to be specific. If there’s only one question in them that I can’t answer/am not comfortable answering, I won’t reblog it. Which limits the ask games I actually reblog drastically. Not that I get many/any asks anyway whenever I reblog an ask game.

Uhh … Considering that I don’t exactly know who my mutuals all are and by only assuming that my friends are also my mutuals … probably no one, lol. But some of them are fandom famous! Not that I care about that, because all of them are lovely people and that’s all that matters to me.

so here i was, about to go and find a reference of kodelyn + brione for what i thought they looked like, compared to how i made them in the games. except, i found out of most of the art i’ve done recently, except for one, they’re nowhere to be found. this isn’t a game of i just misplaced them, it’s a matter of i haven’t actually done any.

but out of most of them, it’s mainly other people’s ocs. not that it’s a bad thing, i love reinterpreting people’s characters and making them smile. but it’s probably a deeper issue that i literally have no art for a majority of my characters. im pinning the blame on the fact i grew up (still growing up really) really socially isolated as a kid. people didn’t like to bother with me because i didn’t have other friends to balance to absolute love i had for people who put up with me.

which pushed them away from me after a while.

also, probably, because i went undiagnosed for anxiety and adhd for a long time. since i jumped grades, and i also had stunted social skills for a really long time (not my words, my mother’s -- which is entirely fair). i mean hell, i still do. it’s always been something that bothers me, that i’m shit at knowing what to say or what to do beyond being the advice friend.

i never realized it jumped over to me making online friends. i mean, the person you meet behind this account online is probably really bubbly, funny and has a lot of hyperfixations she likes to talk about (to an annoying degree -- anyone who’s had to look at a wall of text in our server about me ranting back and forth about kaidan, i’m so sorry). but the person behind this account you meet in real life doesn’t have room for all that personality. she stutters, she’s a little all over the place, disorganized, and while extroverted around people she trusts, tends to cling to what she knows to an annoying degree and doesn’t take change easy.

beyond that point, what i mean by that is that i’ve begun to do the same thing online. i give people things with the assumption it’ll make them like me better. which is a horrid habit i’ve had for a really long time that could be worse, but because people happen to like what i draw for them and i’ve shrugged it off (i don’t think ANYONE in the server is that materialistic, not at ALL) i mean i made friends who like to talk back and forth about art techniques and that’s great. but i sort of wish i put that much dedication into me. i want to be able to put that trust in my personality, not my abilities, that people will like me for me. forget whether i worked for two hours on a piece that they ended up making their pfp.

it’s a little hard sometimes. 

sometimes i feel like i have to serve a purpose.

this isn’t a ‘i hate drawing for other people >:(’ sort of thing. it’s a ‘i haven’t really taken the time to enjoy the things i make more than what other people have done and i don’t have much hope for them liking me if i don’t do something for them’, because i probably will just keep drawing for other people. because i love that moment where they seem so happy about what i’ve made for them, even if i wasn’t inherently proud of it at first.

anyway this was just supposed to a gen-z sort of joke about my lack of social skills and confidence. i’ll probably delete it later when i feel a little more on track. and PLEASE don’t think you’re part of the problem if i give you art. if i do, it’s because i like you so much that i want to show you that -- and i just don’t have the tools needed to do it any other way. it’s the same reason i love it when i get people talking about their ocs. i can tell they like talking about certain subjects, the little details in their toons, why they do what they do and their relationships with other characters -- but sort of clam up if you ask me anything about mine.

you’re probably wondering ‘but what does this have to do with the refs? you’ve been babbling for like five paragraphs now’. well, it’s just a problem i always have. i’ve never been happy enough with my ocs to think they honestly deserve pieces of themselves. since i picked art back up a while ago, i just discovered people who’s ocs are better thought out, have better motivations and the like. and mostly because i’ve surrounded myself with people who are honestly the kindest and warmest people i’ve ever met, i feel safe enough to show them my appreciation in that way. only that they tend to be a lot older than me, so i feel more of a want to show them that i’m not just some annoying kid they plucked off tumblr.

and i honestly just don’t know any other way to show it beyond drawings and discussions about their character motivations.

okay now i’m done for real, back to our scheduled programming!

An Honest Apology

Many of you might be confused with this since this didn’t got popular or talked about; but it was for the better to not keep myself silent.

(disclaimer: I’m not an english speaker and I’m aware that this apology might be worded weirdly)

A few months ago; almost a year, I published here and my DA a drawing (and a pfp) of a Wendigo persona that I did for Halloween. It didn’t got much attention nor anyone saw something wrong with it, therefore, I couldn’t see the big time mistake that I just committed. You see, since I don’t live in the US I don’t really know much about their culture, much less Native American culture. Most of the info I have for myths and weird critters is through here, the internet. I tried to do some “research” of the Wendigo but it wasn’t enough, for the most part of my life I always believed that the  Wendigo was a funny haha cryptid, you know...like mothman. (oh boy I was so wrong..) Most of the references that I got from this creature was from google images so I thought “hey...If I try to depict this creature as accurately as I can, maybe I can do something cool with it..” but at the end of the day It was highly offensive. 

Months later, I realized that these drawings were pretty racist, since the Wendigo is a creature that Native Americans take VERY seriously, and I wasn’t aware of that fact at all, so I deleted them. I wasn’t sure if I needed to apologize since no one saw these drawings (nor I’m going to show them, In my opinion I think it’s for the better to forget about them) but as I said in the beggining, it’ll be worse if I didn’t say a thing about this.

I also want to add that I wanted to portray Wendigos as part of my passion project called Siblings of the Dawn (or ThunderFeathers for some old followers) before all of this happened. Since big part of the world building is about different myths and folklore coming to life. But I decided to not to. In exchange, I tried to make an original species that are inspired by Wendigos (at least the image rather than the myth itself) instead of adding actual Wendigos. (they are still a prototype and I would thank a lot if you could give me some feedback) They’re called Forest Spirits (or soul harvesters), they’re tiny anthro looking shadows with lion-like tails, some rigged clothing and wear skulls of different animals; their main task is to control the overpopulation of souls that aven’t found a body, some of them eat the bad souls, and others try to guide them to newborn bodies. I never made this public but I thought It was better to also put it in here.

I’m terribly sorry and I hope you can forgive me.

Also, quick note: PLEASE don’t try to defend me or comment “but you didn’t do anything wrong! this isn’t cultural appropiation!!” it’s really insensitive of you, MOSTLY if you’re not a Native American and don’t participate of this religion/culutre. This apology isn’t for you, it’s for the ones I hurt. Hope you can understand.

The icon is a 2018 chalk redraw of a 2016 acrylic painting I did on my high school grad  hat. I need to update it!

It’s another 2018 drawing. It was a final ink drawing for my one sequential art classes and I was really proud of it. I might switch it out for another more recent ink illustration of dinosaurs at a museum or my chicken band drawing to update it.
