i think.... ed is kind of obsessed with the idea of marriage

like okay hes a pirate so the chances that hes ever been in a like solid relationship (or at least maintained one for a long time) is very very unlikely. he never gave a flying fuck about relationships, so he definitely didn't give a fuck about marriage But.

then he meets stede

and hes so fucking in love in love with this man and suddenly he's just consumed by thoughts of forever and then marriage kind of just... works its way into his mind.

and hes not that subtle about it. like at all. it gets to a point where everyone on the ship knows how into the idea of marriage he is, not just stede. i mean, he quite literally had them crash a random wedding once just so they could watch the ceremony while not stealing any of the pretty and expensive things

and stede. well stede doesnt actually give a flying fuck about marriage

hes been married and he was married for all the wrong reasons and his father's whole thing about marriage being a business deal and not an act of love kind of ruined everything for him so he could go the rest of his life without getting married

but. ed wants to get married and while stede doesn't care about marriage it doesn't mean that he hates it. and this time he would be marrying for love, which is what he wanted to begin with. and... and he does plan on spending the rest of his life with ed so... he kind of.... suddenly desperately wants to get married too because just the thought of not being married to ed brings him pain like why arent they married already?!?!?!?!!??!

so he starts planning with the help of everyone (including izzy, but mostly lucius) and they all sort out this proposal situation and ed is like super fucking observant okay so he Knows something is up but he just doesn't know what.

and then he finds out. because after a week of everyone (including izzy, but mostly lucius) acting suspicious as fuck, he comes out onto the deck (well is dragged out in a blindfold) to see stede standing there smiling all big and the deck is decorated in lights and colorful silks (so many fucking colors) and its so fucking beautiful ed starts tearing up on the Spot.

and theyre alone (but not really because the other pirates are nosy fucks who listen in) and ed's all like whats all this?

and stede's like well... i wanted to ask you to marry me but first i have a whole speech planned so you'll have to listen to that first

and ed is just struck. all big and teary-eyed and he feels like he's going to die as he listens to stede recite some shit that seems like it came straight from shakespeare before finally speaking regular english and honestly its all very sweet and ed goes from teary-eyed to fucking bawling because stede wont stop talking about how lovely he is and how he deserves all the happiness in the world and its all so sweet but

but ed has been waiting for this for what feels like forever (its only been a few months) and he's never been that patient of a man anyway so he kisses stede to shut him up because that's always been effective and its just as effective now

and when he pulls away hes like yes, yes you beautiful bastard. i will marry you, of course i'll marry you

and stedes smiling and teary-eyed and his hands are literally shaking as he pulls out the ring

and the ring. oh GOD THE FUCKING RING

its a gold band with several fucking diamonds and its so flashy and pretty and just what ed wanted and holy shit hes so in love with this man and ed is fucking beaming and

stede barely gets the ring on before ed's kissing him again and they kiss and they kiss and they kiss (and cry a lot too but they're tears of joy so its okay)

(they may or may not have sex right out on that deck who knows)

(olu has to force all the pirates to give them privacy)

(and when theyre in bed later that night, ed 100% has stede say his entire proposal all over again and finish what he didn't before ed kissed him)
