[HR] The Envelope

I bought a two-story house a while ago, my first one ever. It's a big part of living the American dream, and here I am living it. It's nice having a house all to yourself with no one to answer to. No parents. No landlord. Just me.

Having a house of my own affords me the priviledge of having my own private mailbox. This makes receiving those letters a lot easier. See, every so often I receive an envelope in my mail without a sender's address. I don't know who does it or how they send it, but it always ends up in my mailbox sooner or later.

The first envelope they ever gave me saved my life, and not in a way I ever expected.

It all started a while back when I was in high school. I was the loner kid at school. Got beat up and bullied a lot without much I could do about it. My parents didn't care that I got bullied, even when I arrived home bruised and scarred. They said I should just toughen up and stop complaining to them all the time. They were either too busy with work or too busy taking a break from work to ever help or listen. That's why they wanted me to just deal with it. I always felt like a nuisance to them.

The school counselor didn't do much more than give the bullies a stern talking to every once in a while. Sometimes he'd gave me letters he'd put on an evelope that he wanted me to give to my parents. But my parents either got upset when I showed it to them or laughed at me for being too weak and dependent on any kind of external help.

Thus, I still got beat up for my lunch money and valuables almost every week. Sometimes I got beat up and insulted for no reason at all. I tried asking teachers for help multiple times because of it, but all they ever did was show me to the counselor's office. It's safe to say they didn't care much more about the situation than my parents did.

So when I went to the teachers they directed me to the counselor, when I went to the counselor he told me to give the same letter to my parents, and I gave the letter to my parents they'd just laugh it off. It's safe to say the adult figures in my life weren't going to help me at all.

I was so angry at the fact that they didn't do anything about the bullies and the rest of their groupies assaulting me constantly. I felt no matter what I tried I couldn't do jack to change the situation. In this absolute hell of a situation I was completely alone.

One day though, something happened.

On a slow, boring Monday we heard one of the teachers just stopped showing up. I was happy hearing it was Mrs. Krakowski that went missing. I remember on a few occasions she looked away as I got mobbed by five kids bigger than me. I knew she saw what happened. I saw her look me straight in the eye once as it happened, then look away. I wouldn't miss her, that much is for sure. I still don't, and last I heard she had suddenly moved to another country. That struck me as odd, but I happy about her being gone more than anything.

At the time, I overheard she'd been replaced by a substitute right as the school started to worry about her sudden absence.

It was lunch time and I was making my way to the cafeteria, trying to take a long route around the back of the school when I felt a chill down my spine, that feeling you get when you feel someone's staring holes into the back of your head. I looked back and noticed something odd. Something you never really saw at my school. There were crows on the roof of the school building and on the surrounding trees. And they were looking straight at me. I froze for a moment, then I heard the crunching of grass and leave moving toward me.

My luck couldn't have been worse. I'd taken a path I didn't usually take to the cafeteria to avoid dealing with them, yet there they were. It was Manson and Billy with two or three of their cronies. I tried running back the way I came but I was already surrounded. Turns out some of them were waiting for me behind the trees.

I felt the hot blood run from my nose as I braced myself on the ground in the fetal position. They tried picking my pockets and I tried fending them off, but they just hit me harder for it. I couldn't do much about a five versus one fight. I saw one of their clenched up hands fly at me and I lost consciousness.

Eventually I woke up to the sounds of the school bells ringing. I had missed lunch yet again. I in pain and I was furious. I wanted to kill those fuckers. I couldn't take it anymore but I felt powerless to do anything about it. I put a hand over my eyes and tears streamed down my face as I laid my back on the prickly grass. I laughed to myself thinking, "This is my life. What a fucking joke." I removed my hand from my face and noticed the figure of a man towering over me.

He wore round red sunglasses and a brown fedora that matched his suit in color. His face was almost completely darkened by the shadow his hat cast on his face, yet I could still make out a cold, stern expression. I could tell through his glasses he wasn't even blinking. I felt a shiver through my body as he stared, then stood up and backed away almost involuntarily.

A flock of flapping wings left me dazed and confused. It was then I noticed there were many more crows than there were before and they stood themselves on the roof of the building above me, some looking directly at me, others looking elsewhere into the distance.

Taking a better look at the man before him, he wasn't anyone I'd ever seen before. For some reason though, without saying a word, it was like he was telling me who he was.

"You're the substitute teacher," I said to him.

As he walked closer toward me I noticed how much of a giant he was compared to me. He was slender and tall, must have been damn near seven feet tall. He leaned in and got close enough to me that our noses were nearly touching.

"Yes." he responded, his voice hoarse like some disney cartoon villain. "Clockwork." He paused. The crows cawed and flapped their wings around us. "You'll address me as Mr. Clockwork."

I couldn't avert my eyes from his nor could I find the strength to move from where I stood. The man held out his hand and slid it inside his brown jacket. From it he took out a white envelpe stamped with black sealing wax and held it out in his hand.

"Take it," he said.

I was confused.

"What is it?"

"A way out."

Then everything clicked. I laughed.

"You're joking. You want to 'help' me, don't you? Well I got news for you. The counselor's not gonna help and my parents aren't either."

He hadn't moved an inch through everything I had said.

"So," I continued, "nothing that you write on a piece of paper is really gonna help me. Might as well throw it in the trash-"

"Have you seen what's inside?" he interjected.

"What?"

"Have you seen. What's inside."

"Well, no..."

"Then what do you have to lose?" He extended the hand with the envelope out further.

I was annoyed that he kept insisting, but even though he didn't seem aggressive, he seemed like the type of man you don't want to say no to. So I took the envelope.

"No one here, not even I, can help you," he said. "It is not up to anyone else to choose for you. You may believe you don't have a choice, but you do. Remember this: when you've decided you've had enough, open it. And when you do, choose wisely."

I wasn't sure what he meant, but after he walked away after he said it.

"Mr. Clockwork!" He stopped. "Thanks for trying, at least."

He left and the crows took off with him, leaving me with an eerie feeling in my stomach. At the same time, I realized Mr. Clockwork didn't turn away from me after what happened. He offered help, in fact, and that's something no teacher, not even my parents have ever done. I started to feel like maybe there was hope for me after all.

The next day I decided to visit Mr. Clockwork in his classroom. I hadn't opened the envelope yet. Hardly even looked at it, yet I still kept it with me. I didn't know what was in it, of course, but I was too pissed off about the counselor's useless letters to want to open another one. Also I didn't want to feel disappointed if the envelope ended up having another referral letter to the school counselor. Instead, I decided I was going to talk to him again. Maybe the bullies would leave me alone if I ended up making friends with him. He was tall, scary, and helpful. Seemed like a better plan to me in the end.

When I entered his classroom I saw a man with blonde hair, a buttoned up shirt and glasses. When I asked him where Mr. Clockwork was, he didn't know who I was talking about. The blonde-haired man told me he was there to replace Mrs. Krakowski as a substitute, but said there was no mention of a Mr. Clockwork at any point before he came in.

Mr. Clockwork had disappeared, just like that. I found it odd and a bit disappointing, but I wasn't expecting much out of the situation.

A few weeks later I'd forgotten all about the ordeal until I saw them again on my way out of school. It was Mason and Billy and the rest of them. They gathered by an alley I used to take to avoid the main roads. Once again they'd found out the routes I took to get home as safely as I could. By the time I saw them I was too deep into the alleyway. I knew I wouldn't be able to run away.

It was one thing to be bullied at school, it was another to get beat up in an alley with no one around to see. I had no saving grace from teachers being nearby, no way to lose them in crowds of students, nothing.

As I fought back I remember getting a solid hit on the only girl of the group. It wasn't like I intentionally targeted her, but that's what you get for trying to pick a fight with someone. You hit, you're going to get hit, I don't care what gender or race you are. As much of an egalitarian idealist I thought myself to be, punching the one girl in their group didn't go over as well with the rest of them as it did with me. She started crying, and soon I found myself in a daze taking hits from all sides, so many that I don't remember how the fight went in any sort of detail.

All I remember is I got left on the floor again after it ended. I could barely move. I remember not being able to open one of my eyes and I could feel hot fluids streaming down my forehead. I was in so much pain I could hardly breathe. They'd scattered my notebooks and papers all over the cement floor of the alley. They'd taken my money again. I didn't have to stand up from the ground to know that's what happened.

I could only think about how I wished I had friends to back me up, or someone like a brother to defend me. I wished I had anyone that could help. Then I remembered my parents. How they called me weak and thought of me as a dependent loser. I felt ashamed. Angry. Bitter.

Off the corner of my one remaining good eye I saw something sticking out of one of my notebooks on the ground. The moment I saw it, the words came back to me, "It is not up to anyone else to choose for you." I pictured the substitute teacher's face in my mind like he was actually there, looking down at me. "You may believe you don't have a choice, but you do."

The envelope. I crawled my way to it and picked it up. Mr. Clockwork kept resonating in my mind.

"It is not up to anyone else to choose for you. Remember this: when you've decided you've had enough, open it."

I noticed something about the black wax seal I hadn't before. It had an insignia of a crow perching above another's body, with its claws interred in its torso. I opened it with my shaky hands and drew a single white page from its insides. At the top of this sheet of paper was a crow's head bleeding from its eyes and the base of its neck. The streams of blood swirled, forming a fancy pattern around the head, then trailing downward and forming blank lines on the rest of the page. Above the lines was text that said the following:

The brotherhood calls to you. Our associates have deemed you worthy to follow in the flight of the crow. You shall write with your blood upon a crow's feather the names of those deserving of the curse.

"My own blood? A curse? What the fuck?" I remember thinking.

Then I remembered the rest of Mr. Clockwork said.

"...And when you do, choose wisely."

Inside the envelope was a black feather. I felt my consciousness fade, so before I passed out I picked up the feather and tipped it with the hot blood streaming from my face. Fighting for the last ounces of consciousness, I managed to write their names. Donald Faraday. Gunther Dorey. Lily Adams. Williiam Gonzalez. Mason Williams.

Before I faded out from consciousness, I noticed something that's still in my memory to this day. The blood I'd written the names in, my blood, was streaming down the page slowly as if being sucked from the lines under them and onto the bottom of the page. Not long after, the blood started to turn into lines, then shapes, then words.

A contract signed in blood. Your initiation has begun. The names chosen will be swallowed whole by our curse.

I remember thinking, "What the fuck?", then my vision went black.

I awoke at a hospital where my parents had been waiting for me to regain consciousness. The nurse told us I could have bled out and died if they hadn't taken care of me when they did. When I asked her how I got there, she said she was surprised I made it there all by myself.

I found that strange since I didn't remember anything after I lost consciousness. Then she said it was possible for one's body to move even while unconscious, like a self-preservation mechanism your body has. She still found it extraordinary because of the state they found me in, and said similar things can happen to people who suffer from hallucinations. Guess I got incredibly lucky, or I have a very reliable body and brain.

I wasn't surprised when my parents suddenly pretended to give a crap about me. Their fake tears came coupled with bitter insults and slights.

"Can't even defend yourself. What's wrong with you?"

"If you could make any friends at all, none of this would have happened."

"That's what happens when you have a weakling for a son."

Of course, even me being in the hospital was about them. I wasn't really expecting much from them though. I didn't care.

There was only one thing in my mind at that time - what happened in that alleyway after I left school that day. The crow's head on the letter, and the blood, the curse. I was afraid my parents had looked through everything and seen it. I was lucky they didn't see it after all.

The rest of the time I was at the hospital I'd have the corner of my eye on my backpack nervously. My parents were still there and I didn't want to make them even the least bit suspicious. If they saw what was in that letter, I had no way of knowing what they'd do to me. They'd send me to a juvenile prison, or worse, a mental institution.

Once I was alone in the room, that was my chance. I quickly got up from the hospital bed and rummaged through my things. Then I saw the envelope, only it didn't have a wax seal on it anymore. I took out the sheet of paper that had the crow's head on it, but it was blank. Completely and utterly blank.

A realization dawned on my mind. I thought back on what happened. The bullies, Mr. Clockwork, the envelope - these events all had something in common. Highly unusual things happened every time I had a run in with Billy, Mason and the gang. Then I thought about what the nurse said about hallucinations. I got hit pretty hard every time I ran into them. Could I have been hallucinating? Did any of it really happen?

When I asked that other substitute about Mr. Clockwork he didn't seem to know he even existed. Did I meet Mr. Clockwork? Did I really write a letter in my own blood? Was I just delirious? Did I imagine the whole thing?

"No," I thought. There had to be an answer to it all. Maybe Mr. Clockwork wasn't an official substitute, maybe he was just a friend of the school principal. Maybe someone saw the letter after I passed out in the alley and swapped it out for a blank one. Even if I had been hallucinating, why would I be carrying an envelope with a blank page on it? And why would I remember everything I experienced as vividly as I did?

I was determined to find out what really happened. I tried to get some information from my parents. I asked every teacher and student about Mr. Clockwork, but nobody knew what I was talking about. Every day my breath got shorter, I slept less and less every night thinking about what happened, running into dead ends. I could not escape the thought that maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was all in my head. Wherever I went I saw crows looking back at me, taunting me, but Mr. Clockwork, the envelpe, the letter I wrote in my own blood... there was no trace that any of it had ever happened.

The days blurred together and I felt myself going crazier and crazier. I'd littered my room to oblivion with pages upon pages of scribbles, news articles, anything I could find to get an answer. But it was no use. I felt my mental state slipping.

Then one time, trying to conjure up an answer, I came up with an idea. I thought that maybe the staff at the hospital I was in knew something else. Maybe if I asked around I'd find something out. When I arrived, I talked with the receptionist, and then eventually I found the nurse that took care of me during my time there. I asked her if there was anything else she knew, anything odd that she may have noticed.

She said she didn't see anything odd, and as I started to walk away she changed her mind. She told me that other than finding me injured in front of the hospital, she said the person that found me had seen a flock of birds around me that flew away when they got near me.

When I asked what kind of birds they were, she said she was told they were black birds.

I woke up one day in a dark room with a buzzing light bulb hanging above my head. Seemed to be one of those old industrial fluorescent lights. I felt dizzy and confused. I stood up and realized I'd been sitting on a rusted folding chair. The single lightbulb above me cast a circle of light below it. Outside this circle of light there was nothing. Elsewhere beyond it was pitch black.

I was sweating. I heard noises in the background I couldn't quite make out. Not something you'd ever want to hear in a dark room by yourself, that's for sure. I was afraid to make even the slightest noise. The noise from the lightbulb felt like it was buzzing inside my skull and it made me nauseous. Every once in a while I'd hear an echo in the distance, like the noise of something falling over in a big echoey room. I was nervous and uncertain about a lot, but if there was one thing I was certain about, it was that I wasn't alone.

It felt like hours had gone by with me sitting on that rusty chair. I was getting desperate. I was terrified to do anything, but I wanted to leave that place. Eventually I felt myself brave enough to say in a soft tone of voice:

"A-anyone there?"

No answer. I raised the tone of my voice up a notch.

"A-anybody here? Anyone?"

I kept at it enough that I finally heard something. It sounded like a voice. Grunting. There was someone else in that room with me and I didn't know if I was happy or afraid.

Then I heard something click, then buzz. Another light had clicked on ahead of me in the direction the rusty chair was facing. Another one clicked on ahead of it, then another. I was in a much bigger room than I thought. Maybe a warehouse of some sort. Far away into the distance where the lights formed a path there was a door. It looked to be a white door.

It became apparent how dirty and worn the cement floor looked as I walked toward the door. The fact that the clean, white door at the end of the room didn't fit in with the muck-ridden floors and walls it was mounted on gave me an eerie feeling in my stomach.

My legs were shaking. I wanted to move faster but I was too scared to. The background noises I'd been hearing got louder. It was music. Chanting. Dark and guttural. It got louder as I drew closer. As I stood about a foot or two in front of the door, I noticed it had something engraved on it. A bird digging its claws on another below it and a floral pattern all around it. The crow, same as in the one on the black seal of the envelope Mr. Clockwork had given me.

My body still shook, but a wave of calm I could not explain washed over me. I felt I knew now why I was where I was. I was uncertain, yet all was clear.

I placed my hand on the door handle. The music stopped. I turned the handle, pushed, and the door creaked open.

It was a small room made to look like a gothic chapel. There were tables with lit candles, books and chandeliers. The walls were lined with mosaics showing illustrations of men and women in dark robes and cloaks. They showed kings, emperors, influential figures of our time bleeding and falling at the hands of these figures, all of them under the crow's gaze as the centerpiece of it all. There was a plaque on the wall ahead of me that read:

What's not known we shan't forget

What's taken shall see its end

Songbirds fall to feed us regret

To rise and cleanse the world again

I heard groaning on the floor ahead of me. It was a familiar groan. There was a kneeler with a book on top of it. I opened the book to see what was inside. I smiled.

My parents came to visit me at my new house about a month ago. I no longer have any resentment toward them as I did when I was younger. I invited them, after all, and greeted them with glee.

Normally I'd sit back and wait for it to arrive, but this time I heard the doorbell ringing. I opened the door to see a man, tall and slender with red tinted glasses and a matching suit and hat.

The envelope is finally here.

In Europe the European courts have already ruled it unfair. google Cheaper insurance for women ruled unfair Wtf? Women are horrible drivers. I've only been in one accident my entire life of driving and it wasn't my fault, a WOMAN backed into me as I was passing a parking lot. Apparently that wasn't the first time she did that either. One other time a WOMAN almost crashed into me on the free way, she wanted to get into my lane but apparently she didn't see me and just without using a turn signal just decided to turn into my lane and luckily i was paying attention and was able to break soon enough and she probably came within inches of her back side smashing into my side. it caused me to break suddenly which made the car behind me break suddenly and honk his horn, i honked my horn and the lady in front of me was apparently clueless to the world. Men drink and drive more, not only that but they probably like to show off more. rates should be higher for people like them, not all men. Gender biases are unconstitutional because that's prejudice. Also it's a total lie that women make less money than men. when i waited tables, the women got all the good tips from men. while i generally just got the minimum tip. not only that but sometimes if i was dealing with another male, sometimes they didn't give me a tip at all especially if they were drunk or some scruffy looking truck driver trying to hit on the other girls. But if one of those hot girls waited on them, they would sometimes give them a tip that was more than the food that they ordered! I think it's all bs. and of course completely racist. Why does america allow this? You know in some countries they don't allow women to drive. MAYBE it's because they're bad drivers!!!""

My friends have already paid us and they have a Bill of Sale and next week we are getting a duplicate of the Chevy title in the mail (because we lost ours), at which time we will transfer. Here is where the confusion begins: My mother-in-law (who is a retired State Farm insurance agent) drew up a Bill of Sale that indicated as its last sentence at the end, Buyer will show proof of liability insurance at the time the car is received (or something like that; I don't have the Bill of Sale in front of me). We saw our friends today to get the Bill of Sale notarized (they already paid for the car; we're just waiting for the title for the Malibu to arrive via mail, as mentioned above). Their insurance agent is about 90 miles away, I find out, and will need pictures of the car. Our friends insist that my mother-in-law is just being a mom since we're new at such a transaction (our friends have owned and sold boats, cars, etc., so they are experienced at this, too), meaning that she's being overcautious by saying they need to present proof of liability insurance at the exact time I give them the keys to the car. So, once I give them the title and the keys, are they responsible for when they get the car insurance? My Hyundai is covered through my insurance agent (my mother-in-law called them and got coverage on it already), but she insists that I am not to get insurance verification on the Hyundai until the friends show proof of their insurance on the Malibu after they get possession of it. So I am 21 years old working part time as a supervisor with a certain big brown shipping company. I am making decent money, and was, at the time, driving a really high mileage 1998 explorer that got terrible MPG and was nickle and dimeing me to death, so I decided to go look for a new car. The car I found, was a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi S. It had really high safety ratings, the car itself was in very good condition (the previous owner was a little old lady who I actually got to meet because her nephew was the car salesman I bought it from, who even brought me all of the paperwork on the maintenance she had - impeccable maintenance record I might add), and the average highway mpg, is double that of my explorer. However, I made a mistake of not confirming what my insurance rate would change to when I called State Farm over the phone to have my coverage changed to the new vehicle, and now here I am paying triple what I did for the explorer. I don't get it, how does a little 4 door sedan w/ awesome safety ratings and all that jazz cost me $224 a month to insure, but a 4WD fully loaded explorer, in Colorado, that I had since I was 17, was only like $63 a month. I mean, I understand that a vehicle that isn't paid off yet is going to have higher insurance thanks to the lender requiring full coverage, but I don't know ANYONE around my age paying this much except for a guy I work with who drives an Acura and got a massive ticket for going a buck 20 in a 45 speed zone and now pays like 350 a month. Bad title for this question I know. I have never really had to go to the doctor for anything, ANYTHING. Recently I went to go see one because my energy level has been horrible, and I am always fatigued. After seeing the doctor, and getting lab work done, I had spent almost a $1000 dollars. Apparently the only people who can qualify for health insurance are those who dont need it to begin with. And those who need it are denied because of a pre-existing condition. 25 & More Life

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays!

I took a break from writing over the holidays and to prepare myself for this move in a couple weeks and my vacation next week. While boxing up my things and reminiscing about the memories I’ve made in my first apartment, I was inspired to write today’s blog.

With the new year comes many thoughts, resolutions, habits, and promises to yourself and those around you. Some want to lose weight, some want to find love, and others may want to find themselves. What're some things that you have set out to do this year? What are your resolutions? Personally, I am not one to make a plethora of resolutions I know I’m not going to keep, but I do like to make promises to myself. Being that I am a writer and a visual person, I love to write out the things that I vow to myself. For me, nothing will motivate me more than a physical list of things to do that I am able to confidently cross things off of.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

I Promise...

...to keep making my voice heard. I’m black first baby.

Malcolm said it best: “I’m black first—my sympathies are black, my allegiance is black, my whole objectives are black. ...I’m not interested in being American, because America has never been interested in me.” I cannot and will not be silenced by people and their beliefs that seek to keep me and others like me oppressed. Though the world seeks to destroy every part of my blackness, I have to make it my duty to stand firm for the things that I believe in. You’ll see this black skin and watch in awe. You’ll see this black priviledge and RESPECT IT. You’ll either hear these words and accept them with open arms as they consume you and change your colonized way of thinking OR you’ll swallow them in disdain like a shot of Jack straight at room temperature.

...to never stop learning

Ben Frank said: “we are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.” I love learning new things. I love taking my view of a situation and seeing it from a new perspective. Lately, I’ve felt very stagnant in life and felt as though this meant that I wasn’t learning, and I let the moronic monotany of day to day life was in fact make me feel less intelligent. This year, I promise to NEVER STOP LEARNING. It’s my duty to open my eyes and ears to the world; research and study the things that I am interested in. Become well versed in issues and topics that are important and not just idiocy. The transition from being a student in college to a student of the real world has not been easy, but then again, when has life ever been easy? Class is in session.

...to forgive myself

This one’s going to be tough. As I’ve said before, I’m my loudest critic and my worst enemy. Even so, I have to remember that I am human and the mistakes I make are merely lessons to be learned (even the ones that seem to happen repeatedly). I have to forgive myself for not being perfect and give myself time. Time to grow, time to learn, and time to figure out what it is that I am here for. I have to silence the myriad of negative thoughts that never stop on the hamster wheel that is my brain. I AM good enough and I am coming for everything that I deserve.

...to continue to hold others accountable

No days off this year. Just like there are outright wrong people, there are just as many latent racists, rapists and bigots out there. It’s time to call them out and bring them to the front of the congregation and “give them the respect they deserve for being stupid,” as Charlamagne would say. Not only that, but I can’t accept excuses for ignorance. It’s 2018 kids, information is literally at your fingertips. There’s NO excuse for you to keep being a sheep and believing in antiquated ideologies just because your granny said so or because no one else ever told you different. Be respectful, be informed, be accepting and be mindful of what you say. If not? Prepare to hear my mouth.

...to hold MYSELF accountable

Of course, I cannot go through life and call everyone else out while hiding my own indiscretions. Any negative things that I say and do can be just as damaging as the next person. I must hold myself accountable for my own actions as well, and ensure that my words are without contradiction and are not perpetuating the beliefs and societal norms that work against me. I would rather die a hero than to live long enough to see myself become the villain.

...to let go & laugh more

Though I am a free spirit with hipster tendencies, I also have a tendency to be tethered to my fears and anxieties and allow them to keep me from truly soaring like I know I can. I have to free myself of the people and things that serve no purpose in my life. I am doing myself a disservice by keeping them around. I want to laugh more than I cry this year. Laugh at myself and my mistakes and my bad decisions and not take myself too seriously. I want to make others laugh and bring them joy when they least expect it. I’m mad funny and others should get a taste of that too! Positive vibes only!

...to LIVE MORE LIFE

This past year, my best friend and I took trips we couldn’t afford, ate food that we loved, and made memories that will last a lifetime. I want to keep that same energy this year! I want to continue to eat, pray, and love my way through 2018. I want to live and not just exist; to experience and not just survive. More love, more laughs, more destinations, and MORE LIFE.

...to curate and concentrate on my craft

This one is the most important. I can’t be complacent in my art. I promise that this year I will only elevate and enhance my way with words and find better ways to get them out to a larger audience. I want more consistency and more dedication to doing what I love,which is writing. When I was younger I couldn’t put the pen down, but as I’ve gotten older, less things inspire me to write. That is not going to be my excuse ANYMORE. I am a creator, a writer, and an artist. Not only do I need to make the world hear what I have to say, but I have to keep them interested and keep them listening.

Of course, it’s important to set goals and challenge yourself with every new year, but that is the easy part. Anyone can SAY what they’re going to do, but the hard part comes into play when you have to put in the work. I often find it difficult to put in the work because I am the most critical of myself. Even as I write these blogs every week, no matter how many people shower me with praises and compliments, I will only hear the negativity. Repeatedly reading and constantly find things that I could have written better. With that being said, I‘ve decided to make these promises to myself; promises that I must keep so that my 2018 will be greater than my 2017. If you read any of these and decide you want to do the same, please feel free to do so! I love knowing that I am making even that smallest of impacts on the lives of others.

so hes essentially stopped having sex with me. physical affection is like.. few and far between. and i guess, thanks? i guess? like step up from my oshawa ex for sure - he fucked me until i left. so like, thanks? thanks for not just using me?

i tried to be more understanding like maybe this is just how he feels right now but these little things managed to add up and with his refusal for sex ... i mean, he’s not “refusing”. i dont really come on to him. the last time we did have sex it was pretty bad. like bad enough both of us admitted it was pretty bad. i thought maybe that had something to do with it.

but he started nitpicking and being rude about it. like leaving my shoes at the door - which he does everyday all day; but it’s not my house and i should be a perfect guest always and if i’m not, it’s disrespectful. he suggested that i gain weight - jokingly mind you, but not really. finally he told me to “put money aside” to pay for myself at meals with friends because it made him uncomfortable. then suggested that “instead of not going at all” i run a tab with him and keep track of everything he buys me.

i told him no thanks. i dont want a walking credit card. i never wanted that. that doesnt make my life any better at all. its more uncomfortable for me that the guy whos dick i suck makes me pay for all my meals. and i get it - he doesnt need to cover all of them. but holy fuck what kind of relationship is it that you cant even go out because your partner wont pay for your meal? your partner ho makes more money ad has more disposable income than a majority of our peers.

i just thought it was really careless to make a suggestion like this when i cannot afford to eat out. period. thats not a luxury i can have right now and u know what? THATS OKAY. holy fuck, of all the luxuries i dont need and am not going to die from; it’s that. i kept thinking it was like a keeping up th the joneses kind of thing. like i’m paying to go out to eat food not to eat food but to prove i can afford to go out and eat food to a group of people. i PREFER to live frugually. even hen i have OTHER PEOPLES MONEY i try to save and be frugal for them because i feel disgusted hen a large amount of money is wasted. ive had dozens of opportunities to spend his money hoever i wanted and continually chose the cheapest option. only recently did i start choosing take out options OVER 10$. like i was literally choosing anything under 10$ so i wouldnt be a burden while his meal ould be 20 -25$.

he tried to be friendly afterwards but i felt like it was a final straw. its never a discussion. its just hurling insults at me and completely disregarding the reason why i have suh little money. my entire being is dedicated to not being brought down by him ad people like him in the interim of hopefully making my life better. like if i cant get through this then i dont even have a hope of it being better and apparantly “this” is being shit on over and over and over again. i just.. i dont care anymore. he was really just annoying me at this point. im tired of being made to feel super poor. like no one else does this to me. i do manage to take care of myself a good portion of the time and most know where my money goes. im tired of having to give myself a pep talk to feel better about myself because hes made me question my value and worth.

last night i slept crammed against the wall. literally. and hes come to a point he feels this is appropriate because sleeping together is such a hassle for him and it just reminded me of my abusive ex. but then he decided to jack off beside me first thing in the mornig and i was done. like i guess im very hard headed but hey - i get it now. i’m nothing to you. i dont deserve anything. i dont deserve to wake up peacefully, a good morning - nothing. all i deserve is to ake up to some disgusting man jacking off beside me. i got dressed, gathered my stuff and left. i said nothing to anyone, i just left. cuz hat the fuck is the point? i felt like a little “guilty” that this would create anxiety for him but who the fuck even cares? i dot even want to have a conversation with him because i dont have conversations ith him i just listen to him. there is no back and forth, no discovery or discussion. its just me listening to him. so why fucking bother. he knows i wouldnt leave unless i was upset so the “point” is made but i have no point. i’m just done, i think? i think you know youre the most done when words are not useful anymore ad like there is nothing i want to discuss. i dont even ant to tell him what a shitty person hes been. all it leads to is guilt and pity and sticking around because he thinks hes supposed to. i want to be with someone who wants to be with me. but like that never happens. no oe ever wants to be with me. they want to be ith some other perso but i’m good enough. and it sounds very woe is me but this is the truth. ad i am an attractive nice person. i am very caring and loving and loyal. i am a great girlfriend. but no one ever wants to actually be with me. theyve always wanted someone else, someone else is always actually “the one” ad theyve either gotten away or they never got a chance and now they’re just stuck with _me_. my first “love” was already in love ith someone else but it as never going to happen (and hen he thought it as going to it didnt and he still came back to me and that is not even a bonus thats just proving my point). my second, still enamored with his ex he never fully proved cheated on him but he thought she did (but u know maybe she didnt). and all the men in between - they wanted someone else. they predictably ended up with a few of the someone elses. and right now is just repeating this scenario.

and you know, i come across these dudes and they tell ME they love ME. i would never dare utter such words to these people and give myself like that unless it was very important for me to do. like if i as a year into it and no one said shit and i felt strongly about it, then maybe i would but i dont even offer this to close friends. love is the most serious.

but they tell me they love me. and all i want is love. i dont even want necessarily to BE LOVED but i would like love to exist in my life in a very pure and geuie ay that ive witnessed with others. its not like i need love and attention from all these people. i dont need love to be validated as a person. i can be without love temporarily and move forward in life. i have less sources of love than many people ad im not actively seekig it from dozens of people. but if someone asks me what do you want? perhaps i want money and security. this ould be high on the list. but i think most of all i want love. i want to experience love. my parents did not love me. or maybe my father did but i dot think he was wholy capable of giving pure love. these are perhaps the people who should be my pillars ad theyre not ad everyoe else got to experience love - not eve sexual love. its not eve sexual. its not romantic. everyone aroud me has bee able to experience pure true love of some form and i feel like i have not. like theres nevere been a single stable source of love for any length of time in my life.

Why should we even try? Our work as Millennials is already completely worthless in the eyes of older generations, our cultural and generational differences deem us unworthy competators in their markets. This country treats us with just as much disdain. This is why I am fed up.

I was born and raised to work hard for everything, taught that my efforts will be rewarded. And yet, my generation is criticized for expecting some “reward” for my hard work. A reward such as a livable minimum wage, a heathcare system, affordable educaiton, a welcoming society for minorities and those in need.

Why are we being punished for following the methodology pounded into us since our birth?

My topic is The benefits of the Affordable Healthcare Act, which is informally known as Obamacare. My hypothesis is the Affordable Healthcare Act would be beneficial if it was slightly altered to exclude the individual mandate. I need ideas for more questions, outside of the demographic questions. No. The new Healthcare Act is going to be funded through a variety of new taxes and offsets. This includes a new Medicaid tax imposed on people that make over $200, 000 and $250, 000 annually, and a 40% tax on premium Health Insurances. There will also be new taxes on medicine, high cost diagnostic medical equipment, and a 10% tax on indoor tanning services. Do you believe that the imposed taxes are worth the sacrifice, so that more Americans could have health insurance? Yes. No. The U.S. Supreme Court is currently reviewing the Affordable Care Act. Several U.S. states are questioning the laws constitutionality because the law requires Americans that dont have health insurance to choose an affordable healthcare plan or pay a fine (this is called the individual mandate). Do you believe that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional on these grounds? Yes. No. Not sure. If you do believe that the individual mandate is unconstitutional, do you believe it is worth the sacrifice, so that more Americans could have health care? Yes. No. Does not apply.
