for the affectionate moments meme: 22 for Dimitri and Elrahal, also 31 for Darva and Dorian :D :D :D
Thanks for the ask! I had a ton of fun with this meme, lemme tell you. I had yet to really get heavily into Dimitri and Elrahalâs dynamic and, as such, I wrote like 1,600 words for the one prompt. Whoops.
Anyway, most will be under the cut to avoid a big wall of text on the dash!
22: Caught in a Storm.Â
1,600 words, pre-dragon defeat. Dragonâs Dogma stuff because I am a trashy main pawn/arisen person. Tbh, this is probably my favorite thing Iâve written for the two of them so far and Iâve done a fair share of writing about them for funsies.
Dimitri was known in Gransys for two things only and one of such was significantly more important than the other. One being that he was a user of magic, the other being that he was the Arisen. Such a title and the scar across his chest to prove it gained him all manner of acclaim the lowly man from a fishing village was not used to.
However, most of the time Elrahal knew him as someone to get himself into more trouble than he was worth. He had watched him fling himself as wolves, harpies, a golem, and even a griffin once. It seemed trouble had a knack for finding him and getting him into the worst possible situations that even Elrahalâa lowly pawnâcould imagine.
But thisâŠoh, this had to be the worst situation he had managed to get the lot of them into. They had been tracking a violent rogue sorcerer that had stolen something indescribably important to the Duke. At least, thatâs how Dimitri had described in with a roll of his eyes. Elrahal had almost shared in his exasperation; if he was human, he was sure he wouldâve. But the treasure was apparently worth enough to justify the trouble.
The trouble that had all started on the winding path down to the forsaken ruin. Violent winds wracked the small and narrow path through the canyon, slowing their movement to a crawl. Such as fate would have it, harpies had seen fit to ambush them as well. Elrahal had lost count of the number of times Dimitri had nearly been carried off by the beasts. But Dimitri had proved himself to be more tenacious than the other Pawns had thought. Elrahal knew well the lengths he would go to accomplish his tasks; he was his Pawn after all. As they continued their trek, the sky grew dark with clouds and a steady stream of rain began to pour from the sky; it wasnât enough to soak them, but as the rain poured, it saw fit to turn the canyon floor into a thick mess of mud that hampered their progress. They ended up caked in mud up to their ankles and their hair soaked.
âSit still.â Dimitriâs voice cut sharply through his thoughts of the day, his mismatched eyes looking up at Elrahal. His hands were stained with poultice and blood from the wounds magic had failed to heal.
âI apologize.â Elrahal replied in kind, his shoulders relaxing as Dimitri went back to carefully patching the large scrape along his side. He winced at the pain yet again, but did not flinch again as bandages were placed over the healing slave.
Golemâs were feisty creatures when angered and Elrahal had learned it better than any of them when the one saw fit to toss him like a ragdoll into the side of the canyon wall, leaving him in a crumpled heap upon the ground. The broken bones were healed with a simple touch of magic, but their mage had been unable to heal the broken wound on his side once the golem laid prone in the mud. Dimitri thought a blast from one of the runes left magic still lingering and working against the Anodyne. Regardless, the sky had truly gone dark and the rain still persisted. Dimitri had thought it better to rest and wait until morning before continuing along the trail.
âIf the sorcerer fancies himself safe, he shall not depart.â Elrahal remembered Dimitri saying. They had cosied themselves within one of the small caves within the walls of the canyon; one of the other pawns tended to his own gear while one stood beneath a small overhang outside keeping watch.
âFor the love of the Maker, sit still!â Dimitri ordered sharply yet again as Elarhal moved away from the touch of the herbs.
ââTis painful still.â Elrahal replied softly and Dimitri huffed.
âAnd it shant get better if you do not allow me to patch it!â He barked back and Elrahal frowned. He had been Dimitriâs constant companion since he had been brought from beyond to stand before him and as such knew the man better than any other Pawn or human they traveled with. He could hear the anger in his tone, but the anger in his face betrayed the compassion lying beneath.
âIs something beyond my wound troubling you?â He asked and Dimitriâs red eye matched Elrahalâs own red eye. A trait they had immediately shared whence he came into this world. Dimitri looked back to the wound, his lips curling into an unpleasant frown. The rain pounded against the rock outside, the sound echoing in the deep recess of the cave.
âI dislike when you throw yourself into danger as such.â He answered and Elrahal frowned.
ââTis your doing.â He responded and Dimitri scoffed. âWhen you charge into danger as such, how else shall I protect you?â He added.
âI scarcely remember being close to you when that Golem nearly sundered your flesh from your body.â Dimitri bit back as he slathered more of the wound with the healing herbs.
âIt was rampaging, mind you.â Elrahal spoke and Dimitri laughed.
âSuch sass is ill-becoming a Pawn.â He joked with a grin that still hid worry behind it.
âYet you would care and tend to me as one would a human.â Elrahal dug deeper and Dimitri paused his bandaging. He could see him gripping the fabric tightly as the echoes of thunder rolled across the canyon walls, amplifying the sound.
The thunder had rolled the rest of the way down the canyon when Dimitri spoke in a solemn tone. âOne could sayâŠI have come to care for such as one would a human.â
Elrahal blinked in surprise as Dimitri immediately went back to bandaging his wound with nimble, trembling fingers. Something unfamiliar rolled in his chest and he knew it well from once before.
He had last recalled the painful sensation of his flesh becoming stone before the familiar abyss of fading back to the Rift took him. Darkness held him until he felt himself falling back into the real world; when he stood and looked, panic had gripped him before sense. Dimitri had stood before him, Barnaby practically holding him up. Lines of black were painted across his face and neck, his hand pressed against his blackened side. The Cockatrice poison had sunk deep into his flesh. But Dimitri had looked relieved beyond compare and even worried for his own safety beyond himself. Death was a foreign concept to Elrahal, but Dimitri had treated his loss like death was to humans: irrevocable and permanent. He later figured he only thought as such because the feeling itself had echoed deep in his chest.
Time would be kind to them that day in that he survived, albeit several days of rest were required. But Elrahal knew that the panic deep in his chest at seeing Dimitri in such a position was far beyond that of the drive to protect to see the mission of the Arisen fulfilled. He knew what had stirred in his chest as human feelings; ones of caring, a desire to protect, fondness. All elements of being human. But Elrahal knew himself to no more than a Pawn. The name itself defined his worldâhis identityâas a tool for the Arisen to use and shape. But Dimitri had taken him and given him a purpose as he had done with all the Pawns in his care. But he had given him a name, a gift more precious than one could imagine. A name would let him beâŠand be more than matter from a Rift to be shaped into a tool.
Still, he did not understand. Selene was the closest thing he could understand to reach that point, but even then she was still beyond his capacity to understand. She had been made human even though she had once been a Pawn.
âI do not understand.â Elrahal responded after a long minute and Dimitri glanced up at him.
âYou do not understand my caring?â He asked and Elrahal gave a weak nod. He knew he couldnât hide his emotions as well as a human could; whether it was beyond him to understand such feelings or they were too new to understand, he did not know.
âThere is not one person within Gransys,â Dimitri spoke and Elrahal looked to him, âwho has been at my side as much as you have, Elrahal. I do understand you as such to be constructed to serve me; such is the way of Pawns and without an Arisen you are left to the whims of time and space until another one arises to take the mantle. HoweverâŠâ
Dimitri heaved a sigh and his eyes closed for a long moment. âBeyond that which you were created, such is the potential to grow. Selene grew as such and The Fool grows as such.â
âAs I have grown.â Elrahal spoke softly and Dimitri nodded.
âDo you see why âtis not a foolish notion of mine?â He asked with a soft chuckle and Elrahalâs eyes met his own. His chest fluttered again and he gave a weak nod. Silence of expectation hung heavy in the space between them before Dimitri shattered it by looking away.
Several shattering booms of thunder shook the caverns as Dimitri finished patching his wound. He wiped his forehead and heaved a deep sigh. The storm raged outside the cavern, turning everything into ill forgotten terrain.
âWe best rest, lest the exhaustion of today drag into tomorrow.â He spoke to the other Pawn who looked up. âGo get our other companion to rest. I doubt any creature who would wish us harm would dare to venture in this storm.â He added and the Pawn dutifully responded. Dimitri tossed a shirt to Elrahal and he carefully slid the clean garment on.
âBest we rest.â
31: Catching the other before they fall. 800 words. Some pre-relationship Dorian and Mage!Darva stuff because of gay shit.
âYou need to watch yourself on the slick rock.â
The words repeated in Dorianâs head over and over as he glanced in front of him at Darva who was making his way up the rocks of the Storm Coast. He was moving rather quickly up the rain soaked hill for a man with a long standing injury to his knee. Dorian wiped away raindrops from his forehead and continued to follow behind his fellow mage, carefully placing his feet in the same spots Darva had before. Despite his speed, he was finding the safest places to put oneâs feet.
A loud rumble echoed around them and Dorian lifted his hood to look; light flashed around them again for a split second and he grumbled. The rain was only going to get worse and such the terrain was going to suffer too. He glanced briefly behind him, watching Cole take his own path behind him while Cassandra brought up the rear as she trudged through the ground that was slowly turning into mud.
He looked back up just as an inhuman sound akin to a yelp came from Darva. Panic gripped Dorianâs chest as the mage floundered, his arms flapping in a way that wouldâve been comedic if the chance of Darva seriously hurting himself wasnât so high.
It was like slow motion as he tipped backwards, his arms doing little to prevent the eventual fall.
âDarva!!â Cole cried, but Dorian knew the boy wouldnât have been fast enough.
âBlast it!â Dorian cursed, quickly moving to grab the elf under his arms as his feet slipped out from underneath him. His back hit his chest and the force slid Dorian back a few steps, rocks slipping out from underneath of his feet. He struggled to get his feet back under him as Darva flailed, the slick rock leaving him with no purchase on the ground.
âFuck! Dorian!â He cursed with panic in his voice and Dorian quickly swung him around so he was facing down the hill, allowing the elf to find more stable ground. Cole was there in an instant, taking Darvaâs hands to steady him.
âAre you hurt?â Cole asked quickly with panic, looking at both of them as they struggled to get their breath.
âFrightened a great deal, but safe.â Darva answered him as he looked to Dorian to answer the same question. He gave a short nod in response and Darva nodded in return.
âYour knee alright?â Dorian asked and Darva nodded again, idly rubbing the top of his thigh to soothe any pain from the sharp movement. Thankfully, the pain faded quickly.
âYes, thanks to your quick thinking.â Darva chuckled in relief and Dorian gave a laugh of his own.
âCouldnât have had you tumbling down the whole hill now, could we? Where would that leave us?â He grinned and despite the cold rain already making his face flush, Dorian swore he saw a faint blush rise to Darvaâs cheeks.
âAt the bottom of the hill.â Cole answered in his usual fashion and both mages chuckled and shook their heads. Darva went to speak again, but Cassandra who had caught up to them spoke first.
âAre you hurt?â She asked and Darva shook his head. A sigh deflated her shoulders as the concerned left her before she looked up the hill, wiping away the raindrops that were quickly replaced by a half dozen more raindrops. âIt seems we better find another way to get up this hill so we can avoid this happening again.â She spoke what everyone was thinking.
âIt would be preferable to not lose my knee from underneath of me.â Darva replied and she nodded before she turned to head back down the hill.
Darva gave Cole a nod as if to say he was going to be alright before the rogue followed after Cassandra. Dorian carefully slid down to stand next to Darva and they looked to each other.
âThank you.â Darva spoke genuinely before either of them could joke and Dorian chuckled. He could see the real thanks behind his eyes; he knew that if he had fallen, it wouldâve been weeks of painful recuperation. Still, a joke wasnât beyond Dorian.
âI am many things, but cruel? Perish the thought.â He replied and Darva scoffed.
âA simple âyour welcomeâ couldâve sufficed.â He joked and Dorian rolled his eyes.
âNow where is the fun in that?â He inquired and it was Darvaâs turn to roll his eyes.
âYouâre always so difficult!â Darva teased as he started his way down the hill before Cassandra tired of their antics.
âNonsense! I am perfectly reasonable!â He barked back as he followed behind him, carefully watching his steps.
âWe have business to attend to!â Cassandra yelled at them, effectively ending the conversation beyond the eye roll they shared. They both shared a chuckle as they continued down to the safety of the rain slicked grass where they would find a better way up the hillside.
Thanks again for the prompts, Ryan! I had a ton of fun with them! Find this prompt here! Iâm still doing these folks!

Imani
âDaddy you can go now I have everything. What more do you want to do?â I asked my dad while I sat on my bed. Today I was moving into my dorm and he was acting like he didnât want to leave. The man is acting like heâs never going to see me again or something.
âNasir, the girl is fine. Damn let her get her own room together.â Shante told him.
âThis is my baby girl man; you expect this shit to be easy for me? Sheâs just 18.â He told her.
âAlright and they have dorm advisors and she has a curfew remember. Sheâs not ready for her own apartment and this is the next best thing.â
âImani you set up all of your stuff weâre going to get going.â Shante hugged me then let me go. When my dad hugged me, he hugged me like I was about to ship out to the army or something. He is so over dramatic sometimes.
âI love you alright; call me if you need anything Imani.â
âI know daddy, sheesh. I got it.â He kissed my cheek then they walked out. I plopped down on my bed looking around the room. It was little as hell and plain with only two beds and one desk but I guess whenever my roommate comes we can set up.
I went through my phone for a little bit when a short Spanish looking girl came walking in with a suitcase in each hand and a duffle bag over her shoulder. When she saw me she smiled. âHey Iâm Noelle; you can just call me NuNu though. Are you Imani?â
âYeah thatâs me,â I smiled at her. âItâs nice to meet you, you can call me Mani.â
âAlright well how long have you been in here?â
âNot that long, my parents just left. My step mother bought me a whole bunch of stuff so I was waiting for you to come so we could set up together. We might as well have this little closet of a room look like something.â
âThatâs a really good idea, letâs bust this shit out.â We immediately went right to work on setting up the room. The while time we were getting everything together we were talking and getting to know each other.
NuNu was originally from Newark, mixed with Dominican and Trinidadian, sheâs 18 just like me and she wanted to be a lawyer. From what she told me her life wasnât really too easy. Her mother was a drug addict who she hasnât seen since she was 13 before she went to live with her father. Just like me, she was a spoiled daddyâs girl but she wasnât as sheltered as me and she was a party animal. By the time we were done with our room she was already talking about going to some party.
âI donât think I should go to a party. I still have to unpack and everything.â I told her while she went through her clothes.
âGirl we just spent two hours setting up this room and thatâs only because we were goofing off half the time but that shit was a lot of work. Listen I just want to have fun before classes start. Weâre about to be packed down with school work. We might as well cut up the next couple of days. Just come to the party with me, you wonât have to stay for a long time. An hour is good?â
I looked at her with my eyebrow raised then just shrugged. Why not? âFine Iâll go, but Iâm not staying for long. What should I wear?â
âWell itâs nothing too special so you donât have to be dressed up. You can wear sneakers if you want to.â
âAlright,â I went through my clothes for ten minutes before finding the perfect outfit. Since it was still hot outside I decided on wearing a pair of cuffed jean shorts, a white crop top and some nude Adidas. Gold hoops were in my ears; around my neck was a Givenchy chain and a white leather Tory Burch Pebbles saddle bag was over my shoulder. My curly hair was brushed back into a tight ponytail with a navy blue polo hat was on top of my head.
âAre you ready?â NuNu asked after she was done getting ready herself. Just like me she wore some jean shorts, a white cropped tank top with a metallic jacket over it and she had a pair of white high top air forces on her feet.
âYeah, do you drive?â
âYeah my daddy got me a car when I graduated. You drive?â
âI can drive I just donât have my license yet. I have to go take the test then my dad is going to give me my truck. Until then Iâm either walking or catching a cab. I donât really do public transportation.â
âWell Iâm driving tonight so letâs go girl.â We left out room and went down to NuNuâs car. When we were settled inside she pulled off.
âSo where is this party at?â I asked, I shouldâve asked that when she first brought it up but I wasnât even thinking.
âMy cousin lives down Booker T.â
âThe projects?â
âYeah, youâve heard of it?â
âOh yeah Iâve heard of it and I canât go over there.â
âWhat? Are you scared or something?â
âItâs not that Iâm scared I just know that itâs not a good idea. Itâs people that will feel the need to try something with me because of who my father is.â I told her not really wanting to go into full detail.
One of the main people I didnât want to see was my mother, I know sheâs out somewhere lurking because she never stays in the house.
âItâs not like youâre going alone Iâm going with you. Iâm small but I will fuck somebody up. One hour then we can go. Please?â I looked at her with my eyebrow raised.
As much as I knew this was a bad idea I still just decided to say fuck it. I just knew to keep my eyes open and to stay sober. I wasnât drinking anything or doing anything with anybody.
The whole ride I was trying to calm my nerves down. If my father knew I was coming over here he would flip out on me. My whole damn family would flip out on me to be honest. I havenât been here since I got taken away from my mother and that was for my own protection.
My father and uncles grew up a couple of blocks away from Booker T housing projects unlike my mother, Shante and Millzâ mother Keisha who were born and raised over there.
When my father and uncles left they took their women and kids with them. Everybody moved out of Jersey City except me. My father wanted me with him but of course my mother wasnât having that and she never wanted to leave so I had no choice but to grow up there.
Between some of the girls hating me for no damn reason and my mother trying to fight me outside in front of everybody, numerous times living there was anything but fun for me. My father barely wanted me in Jersey City as it is so I knew once he found out I was down this way by myself he was going to lose his shit.
When we pulled up she parked her car then we got out and crossed the street to the entrance and of course all eyes were on us. I looked down at my outfit mad at myself for even wearing this. If I knew I was coming over here I wouldâve put on more clothes and I wouldnât have put a $700 chain around my neck or $500 sneakers on my feet. If something were to happen I know for a fact somebody was snatching this chain and I was going to be pissed off.
âYou need to call your cousin because Iâm not walking in one of these buildings with just you.â
âAlright,â She pulled her phone out and made the call to her cousin while I crossed my arms over my chest looking around. I recognized damn near everybody that was outside. I guess some things never change. âHeâs coming, stop looking so scary and worried. Youâre going to make us targets.â
I didnât even say anything I stood right there the same way waiting on whoever her cousin was. Five minutes went past before she hit my shoulder.
âHere he comes. Whatâs up Derrick?â NuNu said with a big smile on her face.
I looked up and instantly sucked my teeth when I saw who she was talking to. I knew who Derrick was and I canât stand him or his friends. All they do is nit-pick with people and talk shit. He used to make fun of the way my mother treated me like it was funny. He would go so far as to lie to her just to watch me get me in trouble and Iâve always hated him for that.
âDerrick this is my roommate Im-â
âImani Diamond? I know thatâs not you baby girl, damn.â He looked me up and down while licking his lips. I just glared at him but didnât say anything.
âYâall know each other?â NuNu asked him.
âYeah, her mother lives across the hall from me. Damn she was just talking about you the other day too.â
âIâm sure she was,â I shook my head then looked at NuNu. âIâm not staying here Iâll just call my brother to come get me.â I pulled my phone out to call Haze since he stayed in Bayonne and that wasnât that far away, it would probably only take him twenty minutes to come get me with the way he drives.
âWhy? Youâre acting like itâs late we just got here. Itâs not even nine yet.â NuNu looked at me confused.
âI know that but if this is whoâs throwing the party I want no parts of it. Iâm going back; you can stay if you want to.â
âNuNu donât even worry about it, fuck this stuck up bitch. She always did act like sheâs better than somebody. Fuck you bitch; we donât need you here anyway.â Derrick snapped at me.
âD, you need to chill. If she doesnât want to go to the party she doesnât have to. Shit, with the way youâre acting I could see why.â NuNu said to him.
âMan fuck her,â he snatched my phone from my hand then stepped back.
âGive me my phone Derrick!â I shouted making everybody that was outside look in our direction.
âBitch you better watch who the fuck you yelling at! Stuck up ass bitch, I should call your mother and tell her your ass is down there.â I guess he saw the flash of fear in my eyes when he mentioned her because he started laughing. âOh look, you not so tough right now are you?â
âJustâŠJust give me my phone back please.â When I heard my voice crack and I wanted to smack myself for showing him that what he was saying was affecting me.
âDerrick, give her the damn phone. What are you doing this bullshit for?â NuNu snapped at him.
âMan fuck you too NuNu if you wanna take up for this bitch.â I went to reach for my phone but he backed up. âBack the fuck up.â He pushed me back sending me to the floor landing right on my butt.
I looked up at him wishing looks could kill when all of a sudden a punch to the side of his face sent him to the floor. It didnât stop there; whoever punched him started stomping him the fuck out. âDonât you ever in your muthafuckinâ life put your hands on her nigga! What the fuck is on your brain!?â Instantly I recognized Kasonâs voice.
I got up on my feet and ran over to where he was pulling him away from Derrick, who was on the floor beat up like five niggas jumped on him. âStop, you got him. Calm down please.â I grabbed his face with one hand making him look at me. âStop, just stop.â
He nodded then moved my hand from his face kissing my palm. âYou good?â
âYeah Iâm fine I just want to go back to my dorm.â
âIâll take you back come on, get your phone.â I went over to where Derrick was and picked my phone up before looking at NuNu who was standing there looking like she didnât know what to do. âAre you staying here?â
âNo, Iâm going to head back too.â She looked at Derrick one more time then walked off with us.
âIâm rude, Kason this is my roommate NuNu. NuNu this is Kason.â
âNice to meet you shorty. How did yâall get here?â
âI drove; yâall can just follow me back if Imani is going to ride with you.â NuNu told him.
I shook my head looking at her. âNo I rode with you, it would be rude to not go back home with you.â
âIts fine, you can ride with him. Go ahead.â She smirked walking off to her car. I got in the car with Kason and he sped off soon after.
âWhat the fuck were you doing over there Imani? You know better than to do that shit.â
âI know but she wanted to go to a party, I didnât know it was the party of an asshole. What were you doing over this way?â
âI had to handle some business. You know your father will more than likely hear about this shit right?â
âOh trust me I know, and Iâm not ready for that lecture. Iâm just glad you were there.â The whole ride back to my dorm was quiet for the most part. When we pulled NuNu got out of her car and waved at us before going in our building.
âHow long you been here?â
âI just moved in today.â
âWhy didnât you tell me you were moving in? We text all day every day but you couldnât tell me you were moving? I wouldâve come and helped you.â
Since the day of my first driving lesson Kason and I have been talking. I donât think a whole day has gone by without us talking. Today was the first time in weeks that we havenât texted and that was because I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get that room together.
âMy dad was helping me; I didnât feel like being questioned about anything.â
âThe most he was going to ask you was what is going on between us. Now I know if I get asked that I have my answer ready to go.â
âYou do? What would it be?â
âIâm feelinâ you. Iâve been feelinâ you since we met. The only reason I never said anything was because you were just about to turn 17 and I didnât want your father chopping my head off.â
âAre you serious?â
âHell yeah, youâre 18 now though and youâre out of his house so itâs not like he can dictate what you do now.â
âYouâve liked me since we met? All of this time I thought it was just a one sided thing.â
âAre you trying to say you like me too?â He smirked at me. I almost wanted to slap myself for letting that slip out of my mouth. I have to think before I speak.
âI meanâŠI do-âI couldnât even finish my sentence because he cut me off by kissing me. I was stuck. I didnât even know what to do. Iâm guessing he caught it because he leaned his head back with his eyebrow raised.
âYou never kissed somebody before have you?â I didnât say anything I just shook my head no while he chuckled. âHow is that possible?â
âI just havenât, when I lived with my mother I never really went anywhere and when I did boys were never involved. Then living with my dad boys really were out of the question. Is that weird?â
âA little bit but itâs not a problem, I get it.â He shrugged his shoulders. âAs far as the kissing thing, you just go with the flow.â
âWhat? Youâre going to teach me how to kiss now?â
âHell yeah, but you canât be going around using the shit I show you on the next nigga. Iâm not with that.â
âWhy not?â
âWhy not?â He laughed then licked his lips before giving me a serious look. âIâm going to keep it completely honest with you. I like you, you like me. Iâm attracted to you, youâre attracted to me. Iâm already your first kiss and I plan on being your first in a lot of shit. I just need to know if youâre rockinâ with me or not.â
âYes,â I said with no hesitation. He looked at me shocked for a second before we both fell out laughing.
âYou should be getting to your room now before you get in trouble or something.â He told me when I finally stopped giggling.
âYouâre right.â I opened the door and was getting ready to get out until he grabbed my hand.
âI know you werenât about to get out of my shit without giving me a kiss.â Leaning over I gave him a peck on the lips making me laugh again. âIâll take that shit for now, next time itâs going to be different.â
âYeah Iâm sure. Good night Kason.â
âGood night Imani.â I got out of his car and closed the door then went straight into my building and up to the room with a huge smile on my face. I couldnât wipe it off right now if I wanted to. When I walked in NuNu smirked at me.
âSomebody looks mighty happy.â
âI am,â I laughed at her. I put my bag on my bed then sat down.
âIâm sorry about what happened with my cousin. I didnât know he was going to act like that with you.â
âItâs alright. I just need you to know Iâm never going over there again.â
âI donât blame you, fuck Derrickâs dumb ass though. So is Kason your boyfriend?â
When she asked me that I really didnât know what to say because I didnât know if he was or wasnât. I think thatâs what he meant by what he said to me but I wasnât completely sure. âI think so.â
Trouble
âLook at this nigga walking in smiling hard as shit.â Vick said when Kason brought his ass in the warehouse we were at.
âShut up nigga, here.â He dropped the duffle bag he was carrying on the table then sat down. âItâs all there and if itâs not just let me know Iâll take my ass right back down there.â
âWeâll let you know.â I told him. âWhat are you smiling about anyway?â
âOh I just dropped Imani off.â
âImani who? My cousin Imani?â Vick asked him.
âYeah nigga, you know another one?â
âYou had her with you picking up money?â I asked. I know this nigga wasnât that fuckinâ stupid.
âHell no, I picked up some money from the dumb niggas in Booker T and got it in my car. Iâm about to get in my shit to leave when I hear yelling. I look over and that nigga Derrick pushed her hard as fuck and made her fall. You already know I whooped his ass then took her and her roommate back to the dorm.â
âThe fuck was she doing down there anyway? She knows better than to do that stupid shit.â
âShe said her roommate wanted to go to a party but they didnât even get to the shit because that dumb nigga wanted to be an ass.â
âWho you said pushed her?â Vick asked, I could tell by the look on his face he was pissed off.
âThat nigga Derrick, I handled it though.â
âYou beat his ass, thatâs cool and all but that nigga gotta go for touching her period. I donât give a damn if it was only a push, heâs gone.â
âAight well do you man.â
âAye Vick, you heard from your cousin?â I asked him.
âYou say that like Iâm automatically supposed to know who youâre talking about. Which cousin nigga?â
âMillz,â
âNah not really, sheâs been M.I.A for the last couple of weeks. Why whatâs up?â
âNothing, I just havenât seen her since the night we went to the club. Usually sheâs doing pop ups.â
âWell I donât know whatâs going on with her. Sheâs good though, if she wasnât her mother wouldâve said something to one of us.â
âOh aight, cool.â I nodded. The only reason I even asked Vick about Millz is because sheâs been dodging me. I call she doesnât answer, I text she ignores that shit. Itâs cool though because Iâll being see shorty around. If sheâs not home sheâs nowhere else but with Darnell.
***
I sat outside of Darnellâs building holding my phone in my hand. As soon as I rode up I spotted Millzâ car parked. I couldnât help but laugh at the fact that she thought I wasnât going to see her at some point. Initially I was going to just go upstairs and drag her ass out with me but I decided to be nice and tell her to come outside.
I called her phone and to my surprise she actually answered. âTrouble, why are you calling me?â She asked in a hushed tone.
âFuck is you doing? Hiding in the bathroom or some shit?â
âNigga what do you want?â
âCome outside I need to talk to you.â
âWhat?â
âIâm outside of Darnellâs building come outside. Donât make me come up there to get you.â
âDarnell isnât going to let you in if I tell her not to so relax my nigga. I donât feel like talking about what we did Trouble. Just leave it alone you got a girlfriend.â
âMillz, you think I give a fuck about Darnell letting me in? Come outside or Iâm coming in. You got five minutes bruh.â I hung up the phone and sat back in my seat. Knowing Millz I know sheâs going to try me and not bring her ass outside. When five minutes went past I got out of my car and went upstairs to Darnellâs floor. I knocked on the door and nobody answered. Shaking my head I pulled my gun from waist. âShe really is trying to play with me.â
I took the silencer from my pocket screwing it on the tip of my gun before I shot the knob off before pushing the door opened and going inside. âTrouble I know you didnât just shoot my fuckinâ door!â Darnell shouted at me as she came downstairs.
âI sure did, blame your cousin I told her to bring her ass downstairs.â
âYo, yâall are on some bullshit. Millz, go with this nigga before he keeps doing some bullshit! Trouble you paying for my fuckinâ door nigga!â I went in my pocket pulling out a wad of money. I pulled off a couple of hundreds then handed them to her.
âMy bad Darnell but she was playing with me.â
âWhatever, Iâm not trying to hear that shit. You shot my fuckinâ door open nigga. MILLZ BRING YO ASS ON!â
âIâm coming damn!â Millz snapped at her as she came down the stairs. âTrouble leave me the fuck alone, Iâm not dealing with a nigga that got a whole bitch.â
âCalm yo ass down and letâs go.â I went over and grabbed her arm then pulled her out of Darnellâs apartment.
âLet my arm go!â She snatched away from me but walked with me outside. âWhat about my car?â
âIâll handle it just come on.â We walked over to my car and got in. When I pulled off she looked at me.
âWhat is wrong with you? Why would you shoot her fuckinâ door?â
âYou wanted to act like I was playing with you. I donât like dealing with the stupid childish shit.â
âWhat do you want from me Trouble? Iâm not going there with you, Iâm so off niggas itâs not even funny.â
âWhat happened?â
âYour bitch happened! One of her basic bitch ass cousins posted a fuckinâ picture of us leaving together on Facebook. Cam saw that shit and flipped out, the crazy part is as heâs going off about you I see he got a thick ass hickie on his neck. I fucked him up then dipped, niggas aint shit.â
âThat doesnât go for everybody.â
âOh please, you got a girlfriend yet youâre shooting down doors trying to get to me. Like I said, niggas aint shit and Iâm not about to play your side chick so you might as well leave me the fuck alone.â
âYou hungry?â I asked completely changing the subject. I didnât want to hear the shit she was kicking because Bianca is a non-factor.
âYou really are insane. I know you heard everything I just said.â
âI did, I donât give a fuck about it right now so Iâm asking you are you hungry?â
âWhatever Trouble,â
âIâll take that as a yes.â I smirked at her. I drove another ten minutes before pulling into a Fridayâs parking lot. We both got out the car and walked up to the front door. âYou look good,â The jeans she was wearing had her shape on full display. They hugged her hips and ass just right.
âThanks,â She responded dryly. I knew she had a little attitude but I really didnât care. I found the shit funny actually. After getting seated and ordering our food and drinks we sat there staring at each other. âWhat Trouble? Damn, quit staring in my face.â
âWhatâs wrong with you? I didnât do shit to you so Iâm confused as to why you sitting there with an attitude.â
âIâm just irritated with everything. I mean, I knew he was cheating on me the nigga is a dog but I just didnât have the proof this time.â
âThis time?â
âYes this time, I caught him cheating on me twice before. Knowing him it was way more than the times I know about.â
âSo what did you stay with him for?â
âI love him,â She shrugged. âWell loved him,â
âAnd you donât anymore?â
âI havenât been in love with Cameron for a long time. I donât even know why I didnât end it. I guess I was comfortable, but forget that. Tell me why youâre trying to so hard to get me when you have a girl already. You donât love her?â
âI got love for her, at one point I was in love with her but I canât get down with the type of chick she is.â
âWhat type is she?â
âShe doesnât work, she has no drive. She just wants to party and shit, which is alright sheâs only 22 years old but you gotta have something else to offer.â
âSo why are you after me then? Letâs be real Trouble. Yes I have a job but thatâs not what I want to do. The only reason I work there is because I donât want to dip in the money my daddy left me when he passed. Shit, out of all my cousins Iâm the only one doing some bullshit.â
âHow do you figure that?â
âDarnell has her nail bar, Imani is going to be a doctor and then thereâs me. I work at a daycare with a bunch of snot nose kids I donât even like.â
âWhat do you know how to do? Is there anything you like to do? As a matter of fact, what is your degree in?â
âI was a double major so I have one in interior design and one in entrepreneurship.â
âYou like to decorate stuff?â
âItâs more than just decorating, but itâs something like that. I redo my room every six months. I want to do the whole house but my mother is always blocking.â
âDidnât you graduate college two years early?â
âTechnically I graduated from high school early. I was basically a senior when I was supposed to be a sophomore.â
âHow did you pull that off?â
âWhen I was in middle school they used to have these programs where you get high school credits. So I did that and then when I was in high school I was taking upperclassmen classes and I went to summer school to get some classes out of the way. One month in a class to get the same credits that would take me three months to get during the school year, really aint that hard of a decision.â
âSo you graduated at 15 years old, went to college and graduated from there at 19 and youâre sitting here with two degrees thinking youâre not as good as your cousins? Ma, you gotta stop underestimating yourself.â
âI donât, I mean I know what I want to do but I donât know where to start.â
âYou have a degree in entrepreneurship and money isnât even an issue but you donât know where to start?â
âI have to build up a clientele in order to have a successful business. Whoâs going to let me redecorate their whole house? Thatâs what I mean. I need a portfolio to get clients.â
âI know some people that are shopping for a house. I could hook you up with them to get it together.â
âWhoâs buying a house?â
âOne of my niggas, are you down to do it or not?â
âYeah I guess, but that still doesnât explain the original point.â
âWhich was?â
âWhy are you coming after me so hard when you have a girl already?â
âDonât worry about Bianca, let me handle that. Are you done with that nigga for good?â
âYeah, I canât keep going through that bullshit. Iâm tired of it, he already acts like heâs single and so do I so we might as well be that.â
âWell you wonât be single for long so keep this in mind.â
âOh lord here we go, Trouble get your shit together.â
âMy shit is together, Iâm going to handle the Bianca situation.â
âWell Iâm single, Iâm not about to pause a goddamn thing while you sit over there with a whole girlfriend.â
âWhat does that mean? You trying to get with other niggas or something?â
âMaybe,â She shrugged.
âDonât play with me Millz. I bet any nigga that talks to you gets fucked up.â
âWhatever.â She waved me off like she wasnât taking me serious. Itâs cool though, sheâll see Iâm not the one to play with.
