Thank you to the anonymous asker for recommending this doujinshi ❤ I read it some time ago in Japanese and lost track of it. I'm so happy to be reacquainted with it and read it in English!

The story of Little (Levi) and Erwin is told in short episodes. Little the cat lives with the Smith family and watches over Erwin through the years. This doujinshi is sweet, funny and at times a little sad. One of my favorites. Warning for dead mice and mild violence.

My whole project for the day is to find the records for the people who lived in my house or on my street up to the 1900s, and then match them up with memorial records in the local municipal cemetery up to 1940, and then make the most of the good weather to go and put wine on their graves.

There is something incredibly strange and moving, to me, to see these records of the community- the same handful of families moving around the village as their fortunes waxed and waned, the farmhouses staying in the same hands for generations (or rather, the same tenant farmers' families living in them for generations, we don't know who owned them), watching the street go from "Houses adjacent to Named Field" to "Fieldname Fold, Fieldname Bank, Fieldname Cottages" to "Bxxx (Fieldname Road)", seeing individuals go from "Profession: Schoolboy" to "Junior draper" to "Cloth manufacturer" to "Retired, owner of Hisname Mills" and finally finding his gravestone, next to the co-owner of the mill (they died a few days apart), both bearing plaques donated by each other's families in the names of their employees. There's a woman who lived on Cemetery Road, who is now buried overlooking her house, and I wonder if the current occupiers know she is keeping an eye on the place?

That sense that their community lives on, neighbours and friends in life and now all going through eternity together on the hill overlooking the valley, is really something.

I read this doujinshi a few years ago in Japanese and loved it! It's so heartwarming and wholesome (it's funny reading it with smutty ads popping up on the site 😄). I forgot the creator's name and couldn't find it. Thank you for the link. I didn't know it was translated into English. I'll reread it again and put it on my list to properly review.
