Mleven are calling bylers stupid for saying that the S3 movie scene looks like it’s a double date.

They can’t process the fact that looks like ≠ is. We know full well that they didn’t say ”hey let’s go on a double date in the movies we’re not even allowed in.”

Will and Mike are not on a date there.

But the writers made it look like that.

The stuff from that scene that we use as byler proof is all based on the writers’ choices:

They didn’t have to write them going to the movies. They could have gone somewhere else. With El. But they chose to write it like that.

They didn’t have to write them sneaking in secretly. They could have written them to normally go to the movies and have 4 reserved seats next to each other. But they chose to write it like that.

They didn’t have to write them sitting separately. The movie theater they snuck into could have been half empty and they could have sat together. But they chose to write it like that.

They didn’t even have to make the pairing be Lumax and Byler. Since Lumax apparently was on and off, they could have been off at that time. Or they could have decided that it’s not a double date and therefore make Lucas and Mike sit together and Max and Will sit together. But they chose to write it like that.

In conclusion: No, it wasn’t a double date. Yes, it looks like a double date. Yes, it was the writers’ choice to do it like that. Yes, it’s meant to imply/foreshadow byler being a couple.

Ngl I would love to hear the couple phone conversations Mike did have with Will in between S3 and S4.

How awkward were they? How long? What did they talk about? Did Mike tell Will about Hellfire? Did they ever talk about that Christmas meetup that never transpired? Did Mike fill up the calls with meaningless small talk, or did he let the silences run long, so he could listen to the sound of Will breathing?

Mike when he discovered he was totally in love and happy and melting after Will said "not possible" but then El just decided to ruin his plans and said ily and kissed him

Hopper's threat to Mike

Hopper: you can't go out looking for Will Mike: goes out and desperately looks for Will for days

Hopper: you need to stop seeing El every day Mike: stays home, avoids her and even lies to her

Mike normally doesn't give a shit when adults tell him what to do. He disobeyed Karen, Ted, Hopper, Steve, the agents etc. and did what he thought was right. But in season 3, he did what Hopper told him to do, which is out of character, called him crazy and a "sick old man", and refused to tell El the truth. Hopper didn't threaten to hurt or kill him, as Mike told Lucas, so why was Mike so scared and didn't go and see El anyway (which he normally would've done), let alone even tell her the truth?

Hopper said "I'm going to talk, and you're going to listen" meaning he must've said more than just "if you keep seeing El you'll be in trouble", he must have given him a whole speech. Also, there must be a reason why they didn't show us that conversation or why we never found out what they'd talked about.

So maybe Hopper said something about Will, because that must've been the only way to scare Mike so much. Maybe Hopper knows about Mike's feeling for Will, and that he's only projecting them onto El. To me this is the only logical explanation to why Mike did something so out of character and followed orders he didn't like.

Here is my bullet point list about all the reasons byler is endgame from what I can think of off the top of my head.

The whole garage scene in the first ever episode. Need I say more about that example??

The way Mike looks at Will. I can't say this enough, but the way he looks at him literally melts me. He has such a soft look in his eyes that he doesn't use on anyone else but Will.

The way Mike talks to Will. Again, you can tell the difference in his tone when talking to Will versus talking to the others. It makes me fold into fucking origami. He cares about him so deeply he has his own tone of voice for Will. (The Will voice)

The scene Finn said was his favorite, but the Duffers didn't end up adding it. This scene was Mike riding away from the quarry on his bike crying. They didn't even consider a scene like that for the others. Only for Mike, they thought about having a moment like that.

THE. FUCKING. VAN. SCENE. I cried on that one. People way argue that was Will, 'ripping off the band-aid', but that wasn't it at all. Will was trying to rip the band-aid, but it's not going to stay that way. There's so much more to that scene but I'm going to break it down ⬇️

The painting. Will put a whole ass heart on Mike's shield. Wills' whole speech thing had me with tears in my eyes. He was pouring his whole heart into that, and I was eating it up. The heart light reflecting in Mike's eye was enough for me. When Mike talks to El about the painting, I'm going to be inches away from the screen. I have been waiting for that scene ever since Will said El commissioned the painting. 'I think Wills is making it for someone he likes.' (Idk if that's actually how it goes, but whatever you get the idea) Yes, in fact, he was El. Your boyfriend.

Season 2 is honestly all the evidence I need for byler endgame. Mike staying by Wills side and sleeping next to him. When Will woke up suddenly and Mike instantly woke up as well to comfort him. Trick or treating and Mike yelling at Dustin that's he's got Will and can take him home. 'Home' being Mike's house. The whole putting his (Mikes) hand on Wills when Will was starting to freak out. I'm in pain.

I could go on, but my fingers are starting to hurt and I said I would make this like five days ago and still haven't don't it.

I would love to see Byler rain scene (confession) in s5 where they don't just establish the painting but the s3 fight itself. It's true that we never really saw an apology or talk after that scene. And I mean like, full on talk about it( or what Mike said. )

“I’m just a little worried that Mike has to have a whole gay realization arc all in the last season”- YALL. PAY ATTENTION THATS WHAT HES BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE TIME:

Season 2: Mike is unaware of what his feelings mean but knows how much he cares about Will, legit spends the whole season being in love with him. By the end at the showball he realizes that somethings up, he doesn’t rlly understand what but he can tell something feels different and he doesn’t like it. Cue part 1 of his realization arc; subconscious denial

Season 3: Subconscious denial is rapidly turning to conscious denial, and at the start of the season we see Mike is in part 2 of his realization arc; a severe case of internalized homophobia. He cycles through it all the way to his absolute lowest point in part 2 (rain fight) and then he slowly comes back from it just a little bit. Then, at the end of the season, we see Mike shift onscreen from part 2 to part 2.5; conscious realization and fear. At this point Mike is halfway through his internalized homophobia arc. He KNOWS how he feels, but it still terrifies him. He grapples with this in the time period between s3 and 4.

Season 4: Ah yes, the penultimate season. The season that sets up endgame. The season that has an *entire gay road-trip plot line dedicated to byler*. This season is part 3 for Mike; acceptance. At first glance you miss it if you’re not looking, since s4 byler was almost entirely from Will’s lovely but very biased POV as he was also going through his own gayangstTM arc at the same time, but all it takes is a second glance to see that it’s there. At the start of the season Mike is on the very last, very flimsy legs of denial, and reuniting with Will again after not speaking for months is what catapults him into the acceptance chunk of his arc. In almost every cali crew scene, we see Mike slowly get closer and closer to total acceptance. We see him accept that he doesn’t love El the way he’d originally thought, he accepts that he loves Will the way he thought he was supposed to love El, and by the van scene, Mike is soso close to accepting that both of these things are okay.

Close being the key word here. Will accidentally throws him off again in volume 2, so Mike’s realization arc isn’t fully concluded yet, things are still very messy and season 5 has a lottt to address. But that’s the THING; season 5, as far as byler goes, actually only needs (for the most part ofc) to address development and realizations that have already happened. A lot of the fandom is really underestimating how much Mike suspects and has realized, at least about himself, and that’s where I think most of the remaining byler doubt is coming from (not including Twitter, we don’t count byler Twitter they do not know shit abt what’s going on 💀).

But that worry is unnecessary! Some of you guys don’t realize how perfect of a plot device Vecna is. I’m saying this as a writer: He’s like a writers dream bc you can basically tell viewers what’s happening in a character’s psyche while still maintaining “show don’t tell.” Bc now? All the writers rlly have to do to start canonifying Mike’s gay realization that has, once again, already happened, is have vecna target him! And they’ve clearly been planning that if that several billion hints in s4 and 3 and EVEN 2 AND 1 are anything to go by 👀👀

Guys, Mike’s *realization* arc is practically FINISHED. The duffers and writers have just been hiding it this whole time by not giving us any Mike POV in s3 or 4 bc they couldn’t confirm Mike before confirming Will, that would make byler endgame wayy too obvious they had to sneak it in there.

But it’s there, and it’s happened. The only thing WE have to worry about now is preparing ourselves for the sheer level of angst that is going to be Mike’s internalized homophobia plot line getting confirmed… I rlly don’t think we’re ready for that. I know IM not 😭

But just to make it clear for everyone, this is NOT an imposition. There's no set prompt requirements, so you don't have to use exactly what we're saying here!

The point here is for you to feel free to use your imagination and enjoy Byler Week with no pressure at all 😌

But if you want some ideas, here they are:

Day 1: 03/20 (Monday)

Theme: "Dungeons and Dragons: Cleradin"

Prompt: This is an opportunity to basically do anything related to DnD and Byler! Aka Fantasy AUs, Cleradin moments, them just playing DnD or really anything!

Day 2: 03/21 (Tuesday)

Theme: "80s films"

Prompt: Take any film from the 80s (or older) and make a Byler AU out of it! (This can be just a scene or even a line!)

Day 3: 03/22 (Wednesday) WILL'S BIRTHDAY!!!

Theme: "Birthdaygate/Byler gates"

Prompt: In honor of Will's birthday, the day's theme is Birthdaygate, but this is a time to bring back your favorite gates! (Flickergate, Eightfifteengate, Mikhailgate, Babygirlgate, etc.)

Day 4: 03/23 (Thursday)

Theme: "Summer Love"

Prompt: Have you had that summer love "experience"? That one person that you've met in a summer camp, on a trip? That person that maybe you'll never see again but will always be on your mind? (What if...)

Day 5: 03/24 (Friday)

Theme: "Secret Identities"

Prompt: A chance to make anything related to secret identities. This includes anything from Masquerades, Superhero/Vigilante AUs, Secret Lives/Jobs, and more!

Prompt: Channel your inner pre-vol 2 Byler wishes and desires! Motel confessions? Theories about Will's painting? Gas station stops?
