I want to add one more
- you meet a woman who was your wife in a previous life. You actually have more in common now than you did when you were married. Your culture has a taboo that you’re not supposed to reassociate with people from previous lives or you might be exiled and your belly worms will die with you. It’s just so easy to fall in love in again but so hard to say goodbye again. She leaves, but you still love her, and part of you always will.
STAR TREK WHY MUST YOU DO THIS TO MY HEART

Ja looked at the man of New Valyria and shrugged a shoulder. "Women are my bread and butter, Lucy." A nickname from boyhood that he oft used in this casual moments. It was always the lords and ladies of Estermont being sent to the Riverlands. It made sense. They were Valyrian but they were not cunts and it made it easier to speak to them all. That and his father and mother made it point to ensure they were connected across the lines of court. Families with their hands in the right coffers.
"Women are not scary, nor are they simple minded unless you wish to find one of simple mind. Perhaps a Mallister sister would do you well." His smile came easy as he finished the wine goblet, sat it down on a passing tray and then grabbed another in a motion that synced perfectly with the servants as they passed them by.
"I only wish to ensure my guests are well taken care of and well fed with their thirst quenched." Ja wished to help the Lord of Estermont simply because of their friendship and the long standing connection between their houses. It would do him some good to take a woman to his bed and put to rest the rumors Ja oft heard. Though, he had to admit. if there were swords being swallowed then it did not surprise him it was Lucy.
Valyrians were queer that way. Alas, Lucerys Estermont was a good man. Who needed heirs. They both needed heirs.
"Tell me your type .... of woman, Lucy. Perhaps I can help."
location: in the riverlands during the litha festival @jalabharmooton
dances always made luc nervous. the mere thought that, at any moment, a well-meaning lady might glide over and ask him for a dance made his palms sweat. what if he accepted and then something went horribly wrong? what if he stepped on her foot? forgot the steps? or worse, what if he had to politely decline and she took it the wrong way? what if she thought he was being disrespectful or worse, cried? or what if her brother got angry on her behalf and there was some kind of ridiculous duel? the possibilities for disaster felt endless. he liked dancing, he truly did, but perhaps it was best left to the privacy of his chambers, where no one could see him make a fool of himself. things were simpler when he was a maester, but now, as a lord, everything felt tangled with unspoken expectations.
thankfully, he had managed to avoid the dance floor for now, finding solace in a conversation with another lord who seemed similarly disinclined to dance. luc felt himself slowly unwinding, the tension easing from his shoulders as the man, from a small holding in the riverlands, spoke about his lands. luc noticed how the man’s voice held a rough, earthy quality, like a fighter who had seen the world through steel and soil rather than silk and diplomacy. the man was handsome, strong, and entirely out of place in the politics of the ballroom. handsome too...strong looking...
gods, luc thought, i shouldn’t be thinking things like that. not here, not now.
just as he started to feel a little more at ease, the man excused himself, eyes catching on a woman waving him over. “my wife calls,” he said with a good-natured smile.
“ah, yeah... right. of course. have fun.” have fun? luc internally cringed. what a stupid thing to say.
with the man gone, the awkwardness of the party started to seep back into luc's bones. he was adrift again, not sure what to do next, until his eyes landed on ja across the room. luc’s heart lightened at the sight of his friend, the one person who could make these events bearable. how much had ja seen? did it matter?
without thinking much more about it, luc made his way over, weaving through the throngs of dancers until he stood beside him. “i don’t know how you do this,” luc said with a soft laugh. “you look so… relaxed.” his tone was half admiration, half exasperation. “don’t get me wrong, i’m happy to be here, happy to be visiting you. but this is… not my forte. you know that though.” he said with his familiar buzz of nerves.

Shoutout to my tiny corner of the P/C fandom for being the most chill , laid back , supportive vibiest corner of a fandom I’ve ever been a part of.
No one cares if you reblog other stuff, they know you still ship P/C hardcore too.
And everyone is so supportive about writing and posts and talking about the same thing even for the hundredth time.
I know the whole fandom isn’t always this way, but my tiny corner of it is amazing and I just want to say thank you

You know, "The Corbomite Maneuver" isn't remotely my favorite episode of TOS, not in my top 10 or anything, but J and I are into S3 of TNG and I'm starting to really, really, really miss that kind of episode and the ethos that underlies its sense of their fundamental purpose:
KIRK: Intelligence different from ours or superior? SPOCK: Probably both, and if you're asking the logical decision to make— KIRK: No, I'm not. The mission of the Enterprise is to seek out and contact alien life.
-
KIRK: Those of you who have served for long on this vessel have encountered alien lifeforms. You know the greatest danger facing us is ourselves, an irrational fear of the unknown. But there's no such thing as the unknown, only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood.
-
KIRK: There are lives at stake. By our standards, alien life, but lives nevertheless. Captain out.
-
KIRK: Mr. Sulu, bring us to within one hundred meters. Ahead slow. SULU: Ahead slow, sir. MCCOY: Jim, don't you think— KIRK: What's the mission of this vessel, doctor? To seek out and contact alien life, and an opportunity to demonstrate what our high-sounding words mean. Any questions?
#picard having this whole aura of brusque intellectualism while being intensely certain and incurious is driving me up the wall ngl#especially considering the pop culture receptions! and yet#the lieutenant kirk terrorizing cadets in his think or sink academy course is very much alive and well in tos about 3 cm below the charm#meanwhile every time picard starts righteously monologuing about the prime directive he sounds like goddamn landru#from the very episode that introduced the prime directive as an unsubtle parallel to landru's rigid and repressive prime directive#oh yeah absolutist uncritical application of a rigid rule without accommodation of unusual or unpredictable circumstances never goes wrong!#OH WAIT. it's almost like that was condemned many times by star trek itself. or something#even though tng episodes begin with the amended tos motto of the mission they don't seem to much want to encounter new civilizations#much less interact with them. :\#mostly they seem to seek places where the federation has been before and encounter people they've already had dealings with#i'd rather have 'man' still in the motto and more curiosity and willingness to reconsider their assumptions and challenge authority tbh!!#anghraine babbles#c: who do i have to be#star peace#tng critical#anghraine rants#tos: s1#tos: the corbomite maneuver#tos: the return of the archons#st fanwank#okay. fine.#jean luc picard critical

Robbie the Robot at the conn of the C-57D at the conclusion of Forbidden Planet (1956). That was the perfect place for him, as he could unerringly operate the ship whilst the human crew went into stasis.
I always wanted to see more adventures of Commander Adams, Robbie, and the rest of the crew of C-57D as they explored the galaxy.
Instead, I had to wait 31 years for this:

When people continually whitewash my favourite characters.

[ID: A black and white, rough digital drawing of someone sitting at a desk and clutching their head in their hands. End ID.]
^thank you @describe-things
#This is mainly about Noé Archiviste. But also I will not forget what some people did to Simon Petrikov either when I was watching f&c#I’m so desperate for drawings of them. But for the love of God,is it that difficult? Somehow every other hexadecimal of their#Character design is exactly on model other than their skin. Just. .#OH YEAH I FORGOT KAEYA. FFS. Somehow it’s always the K**luc-ers that always do it. Which makes sense because they disregard his entire char#And with the new influx of atla fans people have been whitewashing Katara too! And I mean drawings of the original show too#probably delete later#And no one seems to have any problems with it? Especially if it’s sexualised art *talking more about Kaeya & Noé here.#People who whitewash the few (and when I say few I literally mean 5/82 playable characters) darker genshin characters. Actually fuck off#If I see ‘it’s just my art style’ or ‘it’s just the lighting’ *every other colour than the skin hasn’t been lightened in the slightest*#One more time-i’m going to explode#Oh and while I’m on this topic! Fuck Bochum for whitewashing literally the entire starlight express cast! Electra being the first ever#non binary character in musical theatre while also being played by black actors. And then Bochum happened.#When was the last time Pearl or Rusty had actors who weren’t white? Literally the last character who hasn’t been replaced is Momma/Poppa.#And being black is so integral to their character and music. You quite physically couldn’t#I really really hope the casting for the London performance this year is like the 1984 cast again. Please.

nasir manderly sat with a measured calm, his hands steepled under his chin as the room’s tensions ebbed and flowed. the flickering candlelight carved shadows across his sharp, contemplative features. he let the others speak first, as was his habit, allowing their voices to weave a tapestry of speculation and concern. amir’s uncertainty had not gone unnoticed, but nasir had offered no outward reassurance. instead, he waited, letting the weight of his brother’s words settle in the chamber like silt in still water.
he finally leaned forward, his voice soft but deliberate, slicing through the murmurs like the tide against a rocky shore. “gulltown,” he began, “is no idle rumor. jalabhar is right—these whispers have weight. a foothold for the iron bank in the vale would be... significant. and a set back, to most of you.” his gaze swept the table, lingering briefly on tion peake, then on lucerys estermont. "right now, the vale and the north stands united."
he straightened slightly, folding his hands before him. “but amir raises a good point—what can we do, if anything? as tion has offered, a presence in gulltown would help. information is a currency of its own, and knowing the truth of these plans may allow us to position ourselves accordingly.” his words were deliberate, carefully balanced between caution and resolve. he looked toward tion. "does your king have any association with the vale?"
he hesitated a beat, his mind flickering back to the faint memory of lucerys from their shared time at the citadel. "i don't know anything about norbert grafton." was it lucerys, or merely someone bearing the estermont name? nasir could not be sure, but the idea was enough to draw his attention. “luc,” he said evenly, “did you come across him when you were at the citadel? i'm sure i heard somewhere he trained for some amount of time."
@lucerysxestermont
who: @lucerysxestermont, @ryonwyl, @nasirofmanderlys, @jalabharmooton, @tionpeake context: the five great banking families of westeros speak on the rumours of the iron bank opening up a branch across the narrow sea - and the rumours it could be in the vale.
the chamber was dim, heavy velvet curtains muffling the daylight and creating a cloistered atmosphere. amir manderly sat at the long table, feeling out of place despite the rich sea-green of his doublet, the silver merman of his house gleaming faintly in the candlelight. the room reeked of pipeweed and ambition, a combination that made him restless. this wasn’t his usual arena—he preferred the simplicity of a sword’s edge or the honest chaos of a card game.
but his brother nasir sat beside him, calm and composed as ever, a steady anchor in these murky waters. he should be speaking, amir thought, resisting the urge to fidget.
the network was gathered in full today—mootons, estermonts, peakes, wyls, and, of course, the manderlys. the most powerful coin families in westeros, they liked to think themselves puppeteers of economies and alliances. amir wasn’t sure he believed that. the reach of the network always seemed to falter at the vale and the westerlands, and now, with rumors of the iron bank’s expansion to gulltown, it felt like the limits of their influence were being laid bare.
"gulltown...would be an issue, nah?" amir asked, breaking the lull in conversation, though his voice was quieter than usual. it felt strange to speak here, among people who seemed to measure their worth in ledgers and gold. it were not his usual manner of discussion. "it’s just... it’s hard to say what we’re even dealing with. i mean, rumors like this—they can spread like wildfire, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything real behind them."
he glanced at nasir for reassurance but found his brother’s expression unreadable. amir pressed on, unsure if his words carried any weight. "and if it is true—well, what then? what could we even do about it? gulltown isn’t exactly friendly to us. they’d probably see us coming from a mile away." he tapped his fingers against the table, the sound hollow against the polished wood. "maybe," he added after a pause, "maybe it’s not about stopping it. maybe it’s just... knowing for sure. someone should go, figure out what the iron bank’s actually planning. at least then we’d be dealing with facts instead of whispers."
the room was quiet for a moment, and amir felt the weight of the others’ gazes. he shifted uncomfortably, glancing toward nasir again. he’s better at this, amir thought. i can’t just sit here and say nothing. "anyway," he finished with a slight exhale, "that’s all i’ve got for you man." he gave a faint, self-deprecating smile, leaning back in his chair as the discussion moved on.
