I really need ppl to understand 99% of the reason why Rulie's portrayed the way he is in fanfics is a combination of two factors:
1.) Jojo actively encouraged the fandom to write fanfic long before she even decided to make an actual long-form comic of her own.
2.) During this time period, & for quite a while after that, the majority of what the fandom had to work off of for Rulie's personality is from this doodle page, & this description for his personality literally straight frm Jojo herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... 2.5.) It should also be noted Jojo hadn't played Adventure Of Link until about halfway through the Sunset arc, as evidenced by this post (we know this is Jojo's sister b/c the official LU tumblr credited her for one of the goofy Sky panels).
Now, since then the way Jojo portrays Rulie didn't change drastically overnight, the Magic Sword comic did happen beforehand for instance... but I do think the level to which Jojo plans to focus on particular traits from Rulie's original design has evolved over the course of development for the comic.
More recent (and, uh, mostly discord-exclusive, so I can't give too many details here) commentary from Jojo indeed emphasizes plans to highlight Rulie's determination above all else, quite contrary to how she used to describe his character (it hasn't changed, probably, it's just a matter of plot-driven emphasis).
Tumblr media
Fanfic writers aren't stupid, we're literally just working with what we have-AND, Rulie himself, as a very nuanced & layered character, is going to be portrayed in wildly different manners depending on context & genre.
If you want to see more of Rulie's sassy side,
1.) Read more recent fics (Alas you will likely have to search by recently updated, as the first wave of popular fanfic tends to get enshrined forever at the top of the list when searching by kudos & comments.)
2.) Don't read angst (Sorry not sorry but angst & vent fics are going to make up the majority of works in any fandom, & in these fics a character's vulnerable side tends to get spotlighted. Don’t like don’t read.)
3.) Respectfully Ask for recs instead of barging in & just straight up telling fanfic authors what to do. That's rude.

Just some random fun on the side. It's been a while since I attempted The Simpsons in the Mallory style. Translating those characters is harder than you'd think. Ironically, I'm better at drawing them in their own style.

I've always been a little upset with Ben for "Did I Mention" because of what he did to Audrey so here's a little something I cooked up to let my frustrations out.
Ben barely had time to react before Chad’s fist collided with his jaw. Pain exploded across his face as he stumbled backward, gripping his cheek. “Ah, shit! What the fuck?” He looked up, eyes wide with shock, as Chad loomed over him, his face contorted with rage. “Why the fuck did you do that?” Chad seethed, his breath heavy, fists still clenched at his sides. “Do what?” Ben asked, his mind still foggy, heart racing. Chad scoffed, shaking his head before stepping closer. “Ask Mal out in front of the entire fucking school while you're still dating Audrey.” Ben felt his stomach twist. He swallowed hard but said nothing. “Oh, so now you don’t have anything to say?” Chad let out a bitter laugh, then grabbed Ben by the collar of his jacket, yanking him forward. “Give me one fucking reason why I shouldn’t beat your ass right now.” Ben struggled against Chad’s grip. “Look, Chad, you don’t understand—” “Understand what?” Chad cut him off, shoving him back with a force that sent Ben stumbling. “That you publicly asked out a girl while you’re dating someone else? That you dedicated your winning shot to a girl you barely know over your own girlfriend? THAT YOU DID AN ENTIRE SONG AND DANCE AND CONFESSED YOUR LOVE FOR HER WHILE YOUR GIRLFRIEND WATCHED IT HAPPEN?” Chad’s voice cracked with frustration. “No, Ben. I understand exactly how much of a dick you actually are.” Ben opened his mouth, but Chad wasn’t finished. “Did you know that she thought you were going to propose to her?” Ben froze. His heartbeat pounded in his ears. “...What?” “Audrey.” Chad’s voice dropped to a whisper, but the anger didn’t fade. “She thought you were going to propose when you won and took the mic from the announcer. She thought—” His voice wavered, but then he clenched his jaw and stepped forward again, jabbing a finger into Ben’s chest. “And then you—you—YOU FUCKING BROKE HER HEART! IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE FUCKING SCHOOL AND THE ENTIRE FUCKING KINGDOM!” Ben felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. He stumbled back against the wall, running a shaky hand through his hair. His head felt foggy, thoughts jumbled, like something wasn’t right, but he couldn’t place it. Chad let out a sharp breath and ran a hand through his own perfectly styled hair, messing it up slightly. His voice was even quieter now, but no less raw. “Look at me, Benjamin.” Ben did. “I accepted my fate of never having her,” Chad admitted, his voice strained. “Because I knew she was happy with you. I knew how happy you both were. So I accepted it. I stayed and watched my best friend and the girl of my dreams live their fairytale.” He clenched his fists at his sides. “But then you messed it all up.” Ben swallowed thickly. “Look, Chad—” “No, Florian, I’m still talking.” Chad’s voice was cold, final. “It would’ve been better if you broke up with her first. It would’ve been way better. But no, you didn’t. And now Audrey’s heart is broken in the worst possible way.”

Rebekah is who warned Matt that Elena was going to do something to Bonnie at prom and Bonnie never knew this. Rebekah looked out for Bonnie yes it has something to do with her liking Matt but that isn’t the point. She still did something nice for Bonnie. (4x19) it just makes me sad Bonnie wasn’t allowed to have friends outside the MFG (we know why) then later spends so much time isolated from everyone else with no one looking out for her.

Noa bumped purposefully against Darrius' arm as she took a place beside him on the sand. The music from the temporary club they'd erected filtered down the beach, thrumming with electricity. "I've got sad news my friend. The DJ refused to play the funeral march. Even after I told him this was like your last week of freedom. So I'm thinking we'll have to find other entertainment."

"How many of those," Lou nodded at the drink in Ari's hand, "have you had?" She was still adjusting to the new reality. The one that included Archie and Ari and learning how to navigate a relationship with an ex. But right then, as she stepped a little closer, she was just trying to be a friend and pass along a little tip for living in Merrock. "Because our bartender makes the strongest drinks on the east coast."

Hi! I've just discovered your lovely blog and needed to ask: I recently watched "Medici" season 2 (yes, I went straight to that one cause Pinterest kept throwing at me beautiful pictures of Francesco de' Pazzi 😂) and was wondering: was Lorenzo truly that magnanimous? Up until his brother's murder he seems too good to be true. And the Pazzis seem to be too bad to be true, almost like a Marvel/Disney villain (except perhaps Francesco, they give him more character background); did they have "better" motives other than just pure hatred towards the Medici to conspire against them? Sorry, this is probably too long for a question 😂
Ohhh I love this question and am very happy to answer (and talk about the Medici/Pazzi whenever).
The short answer is: yes, Lorenzo was quite magnanimous—he is historically remembered (and referred to in modern scholarship) as "The Magnificent"—but he was also quite an ass. No, the Pazzi were not simply evil, and a lot of what we "know" about them now is drawn straight from Medici-sponsored propaganda that swelled in the immediate aftermath of the Conspiracy and has overwhelmed the narrative ever since.
The longer answers are: Lorenzo was raised to be a prince, and he filled the role perfectly. On one hand, he acted very graciously and generously. He was a patron both socially and artistically—ie. he did favours and created an expansive network that came to encompass all of Florence and even extended outside (continuing what his father and grandfather had begun in the decades before). However, he was not willing to face competition. Some scholars suggest that this is the inevitable end to decades and centuries of the Florentine patronage system: instead of multiple smaller networks with large families that did favours, it became one ginormous network at which Lorenzo was at the very top.
People found him attractive in many ways. He was a compelling figure, he was gripping, he had flare. Whenever I read about Lorenzo I'm reminded of the quote from The Talented Mr. Ripley where Marge describes that when Dickie Greenleaf pays attention to you, "it's like the sun shines on you, and it's glorious. And then he forgets you and it's very, very cold." Lorenzo could very quickly turn a cold shoulder, and if you got on his bad side, that was it. One time he gave the silent treatment to a Milanese (I think?) ambassador for over a week. He also absolutely prevented his brother from participating in public life. Make of that what you will. F.W. Kent's work on Lorenzo touches on a lot of this very well.
As for the Pazzi, I think that a lot of the "evil" stuff that gets cast against them came not from them themselves, but from the other conspirators, who were largely based in Rome. I do think the Pazzi became somewhat jealous of the Medici, but it wasn't so much that they were anti-Medici so much as that they had a different conception of what Florence should be, and the Medici did not fit with that. However, the two families had been very closely tied for some fifty years by 1478, which makes it quite sticky. Many of the Pazzi were not "good" people, just like many of the Medici weren't; but they did positive things, too too. Jacopo, for example, was very diligent in giving alms and doing public works. Guglielmo was a public servant through the 1510s, and his son Cosimo became Archbishop of Florence in 1508 and was famous for being incredibly pious and good spirited.
I don't think that we can say that Lorenzo or any of the Pazzi were "better" as people than one another. I tend to judge Lorenzo quite harshly and give the Pazzi the benefit of the doubt, in part because of what happened after the Conspiracy. They were all compelling characters, though, perhaps because of their grey moral compasses. I think that's part of what makes this moment in history so gripping.
