Meet the cacomistle, a nocturnal acrobat of the forests! 🌙🌿 This elusive little mammal is a cousin of raccoons, sporting big curious eyes and a striped tail that would make a fashion model jealous. It can climb like a pro and twist its ankles 180 degrees to scamper down trees headfirst—because why take the normal route? ‍♂️

God creates bassarisks
God: So, you know those procyonids we have?
Angel: Yeah, why?
God: Okay, hear me out...
Angel: ...
God: Take that raccoon, but make it really small, light, and skinny. We're technically doing four species with this body plan, but only two make it to the modern day. And make the smaller of the two the progenitor of the lineup. Make it the size of an average house cat. And by light, I mean, light. Only about 2 pounds.
Angel: And make it cute so people will want to protect it?
God: Yes, but you know the rule about cute things...
Angel: Right, secretly vicious, and don't tell the kids that. So, how vicious?
God: Let's say the most carnivorous member of the procyonids. It only eats fruit if there's not much else available. Give it a ringed tail that will get it confused with those lemurs in Madagascar despite them not at all being native to the American Southwest. People are idiots, I know. And let's take advantage of the 1800's American slang so that the miners who name them for how much better they are than regular cats at clearing out pests from mines coincidentally call it after said tail.
Angel: ...I cannot believe you aren't high right now.
God: Yeah, but it's kind of defenseless, don't you think?
Angel: Yeah...
God: So you know the skunks and how people will confuse them with cats? Let's make the "'ring-tailed' cats" spray musk as well, but make it smell like cat urine. That should last this species at least 5 million years.
Angel: So it has time to speciate?
God: Sure, but let's keep it around while having one success in the jungles of Mexico named for being a half mountain lion and two failures that only some autistic geek who really identifies with them would care to add to the Wikipedia page, get wrong at first, and then, once he realizes his mistakes, correct his errors out of a sense of duty.
Angel: ...why?
God: Because he's making some post on Tumblr about this whole conversation, that's why.
Angel: You do realize that "ring-tailed cat" isn't a very good name, right?
God: Yeah, but they'll call it that on Wikipedia for a long time. Here's some other ideas: Miner's cat, "clever little fox" (its scientific name's literal meaning because of its fennec-like face), bassarisk, babisuri, cacomistle...
Angel: That's literally the "half mountain lion" from earlier.
God: ...and last, but not least, ringtail!
Angel: BUT THE LEMURS!
God: Yeah, they'll be "endangered" while these will be "least concern." People will hardly see these guys, anyway.
Angel: So what was the point of making them cute?!
God: I dunno, it was your idea. Make people want to keep them around the house as an "anti-pest," I guess.
Angel: *visible exasperation*

I did a small redraw of some art I made a long time ago about Donnie giving Casey the same weird pet names that he did with April (Because I love taking things that Donnie did with / to April and putting Casey in that context instead-) ! April's was a chinchilla, so I decided to come up with something similar for Casey which was a Cacomistle (Please look that up, they are so adorable- 😭) !
I also decided to draw something about my Powerpuff Girl crossover after ages of not talking about it- Lmao / Kirby is decently tolerable to me in this AU, so I didn't mind drawing him- 👍✨
Thank you to everyone who joined the Whiteboard session (Whether it was to draw or to watch-) as always ! ✨
Sorry it was kind of abrupt- 😭👍

The ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) is a mammal of the raccoon family native to arid regions of North America. It is widely distributed and well-adapted to its distributed areas. It has been legally trapped for its fur. Globally, it is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List[1] but is a Conservation Strategy Species in Oregon and Fully Protected in California The species is known by a variety of names, such as ring-tailed cat, miner's cat, civet cat, and cacomistle (or cacomixtle), though the last of these can refer to B. sumichrasti.

Actually not a ringtail, at least in the common species name sense. The main differences between the two are that cacomistles are bigger, less carnivorous, and the black bands go all the way around the tail.
