i think a lot of people don't realise how much verstappen has changed dutch culture in general - we have cafes that are max themed, people who have never shown interest in f1 before are following it (on social media/news sites AT LEAST)
it must be amazing to be a dutch racer right now, getting into the scene with someone like max to look up to

Odometer reads 386 miles Highly original, shows as new Frame and engine no. 7F01404H7 Willie G's Cafe Racer, stock and unmodified Displayed in private collection for 24 years 1000cc engine Owner's manual Original service manual Harley-Davidson parts catalog Original Harley-Davidson keys
Since its inception, the motorcycle has lent itself to the needs of riders determined to ride them in every possible environment with a never-ending thirst for speed and style. Originating on the city streets and country back roads in England in the 1960s, the cafe racer has endured as a timeless expression of motorcycle customization, joining the ranks of iconic genres like board track racers, choppers and bobbers. The stripped-down and hopped-up British cafe racers zooming between pubs were purpose-built for optimizing speed and handling. Still, the minimalist style that resulted has echoed in every decade since to become a staple genre in motorcycle culture. The cafe racer movement was so significant upon its arrival that many of the world’s top manufacturers began rolling out production models into their lineups by the 1970s.
One such iconic machine was the brainchild of a young Willie G. Davidson of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, who pulled inspiration from the vibrant cafe racer culture in the U.K. to produce his own version with a distinctly American DNA. Using Harley-Davidson’s existing XLCH Sportster as a foundation, Davidson and his team unveiled the XLCR (cafe racer) in 1977, a model which it is safe to say raised quite a few eyebrows. At its heart was a 61 CI (1000cc) OHV V-twin and 4-speed gearbox built in-unit, which could push the hefty 550-pound machine to a top speed of 115 MPH.
Where its British and Italian counterparts drew from a heritage of Grand Prix racing to inspire their styling, the XLCR married its heritage of flat track racing and the increasingly popular street tracker style to produce a menacing, all-black beast of a motorcycle. A flat track fuel tank, ducktail rear section and bikini fairing captured the cafe racer look, while 2-into-1 exhaust, disc brakes and Morris mag wheels completed what was, at the time, the fastest Harley-Davidson on the market. Displayed in a private collection for 24 years and accompanied by its owner’s manual, original service manual, a Harley-Davidson parts catalog and the original Harley-Davidson keys, this incredibly original 1977 Harley-Davidson XLCR has turned over less than 400 miles, which—given its limited overall production and increasing collectability—makes this American cafe racer an extremely rare and classic motorcycle.

Cafe Racer
The culture of Cafe Racer is growing little by little, or not too little. We can see many brands adapting their models to Cafe Racer and trying to bite a piece of the market. For us bikers, this is great because we have options to choose between reference brands, which means not building our own motorbike but purchasing it built already. If you are an old-school biker and have a bunch of money in…

Violence, Dignity, and Expressive Nature of 80's Bosozoku Logotypes
Tumblr media
Back in junior high, I remember being fascinated and dazed by the bizarre life of an ex-biker gang leader with a dream of becoming the greatest high school teacher in all of japan in manga series by Tooru Fujisawa, GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka).
One of the funniest moment that hooked my adolescent mind before long was when Onizuka's patience as a new teacher on probation are being tested by 4 of his student who tries to blackmail him a million yen. They threatens to spread a fabricated photos of Onizuka undressing his female pupil which is also a fake act.
Shortly after, his student are waiting at a nearby park on midnight to collect the ransom from him. But even before their first cigarette burns out they accidentally greeted by dozens of roaming local biker gang. Little did they know that park happens to be a meeting spot for those mob. Instead of receiving a quick buck from their teacher, the three little rascals are now being scared shitless surrounded by sounds of clinking metal bats and smells of fresh gasoline with nowhere to go.
Tumblr media
Suddenly there's a commotion going on away from the crowd which turned out to be Onizuka himself making his way in by swinging kicks and punches casually in front of several armed men. The agitated gang leader approaches trying to understand what the hell is going on and soon he realized that the lone man is the legendary former leader respected by past generation for being the most vicious commander back in the day. He immediately tries to de-escalate the situation by calming down his subordinate. Followed by a bow as a form of respect asking for apology from a mere high school teacher.
Tumblr media
A sense of false relief came through their mind, "Our teacher are going to save us!". Onizuka asked the leader what have they done to his student. The leader said "We haven't done a thing to them, I swear", "Good, help me with those three. I will give them a lesson of a lifetime for having the guts to blackmail me". Three of them are now flabbergasted by the sight of half naked man with two flashlight tied into his forehead shouting "Tie them up!".
Then, they hanged the students upside down on top of nearby pond. Belarusian Army water torture style. Just to send one message throughout the school: Do not mess with the one and only Onizuka. That scene was my first introduction to a world of Japanese gang-culture filled with violence yet built by a foundation of respect and dignity. Way of Bushido they said. A subculture that revolves around speed, punch perm hairstyle, butterfly knife, thrill-seeking youth, and over the top modified vehicles ranging from two-strokes cafe racer bikes to an extravagantly decorated cars to show their wild-expressionist nature. Proudly calls themselves as Bosozoku (which can be literally translated to "violent running tribe").
Tumblr media
Originally formed by a group of retired WWII kamikaze fighter who mostly suffered from PTSD, Bosozoku culture are an attempt to cope and escape from a daily mundane life contrasting to the camaraderie, excitement, and fiery atmosphere that they used to have on a battlefield. Beyond that, the practice of forming a gang is a pursuit to safeguard many traditional values revolving around dignity and respect of Japanese soldier to younger generation even after the war ended. Fast forward to the 80's the culture grew into more than 40.000 gang members from various factions carrying different symbols on a flag, bumper stickers, bike liveries, and their signature uniform called tokkōfuku. To avoid unnecessary conflict, every gang must have a distinguishable features from one another just like a medieval cavalries with different patterns painted on their battle-flag to recognize allies apart from foes.
Tumblr media
"The recognized uniform of bōsōzoku is the tokkōfuku, a modified working clothes version of kamikaze pilot uniforms embroidered with the specific bōsōzoku group name on the back, nationalist phrases, and stitched on nationalist symbols like the Rising Sun flag" -Antonix Davis on Overview of Bosozoku From all thing that can be discussed there is one thing that stands out for me as a graphic designer: the way every gangs unite their own values, ideas, and beliefs on a single logo. A logo that are bigger than themselves. What kind of object, color, or maybe illustration that they use to intimidate rival gangs? did they still somehow manages to obey graphic design rule? or they just went rampant on the visuals just like they used to do on the streets?
Tumblr media
Earlier this year luckily I came across quite a gem while trying to gather reference on are.na, a single channel by Masala Noir whom have collected archives on many Bosozoku logotypes throughout the year in a form of zine (you can buy the zine here.) and high-resolution jpeg. Though, before we move on to the design I want to appreciate their effort to gather all of these logos, masterfully clean material to scan, decides not to write any descriptions, and especially how they laid out visuals on a black background because I personally think that's the best way to transmit raw aura from each logo. Following images are taken from the archives to give you clearer context on what I'm trying to say later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to Tumblr image limits (duh), more images can be accessed from here and there After I spent hours looking at the archives trying to answer my previous question reality is ... I don't really care anymore. My eyes instantly caught in conquest of visual domination. Sometimes grotesque, sometimes aggressive, whimsical, perverted, flashy, vibrant, but sometimes they can be direct too. I imagined myself being in a gathering of all gangs circling around me blasting their bike throttle with deafening sounds while shouting each other's slogan all at the same time. I am bewitched. They are there within the logo.
I can feel it. The aura is as real as it can be. After that experience I impulsively contemplate those images to dull and lifeless minimalistic contemporary logos. I can imagine the holy makers of every Bosozoku logo who are still alive or in heavens (or maybe hell? it doesn't matter) today rolling up their pride tokkōfuku sleeves showing the biggest middle finger to those who tries to sell fake company values nowadays. While still possessing their genuine Bushido code, a way of samurai spirit embedded not only on the symbol, but also in their hearts. It's true, they're just a bunch of scoundrels on a bike, but a noble one in my eyes. The word mesmerizing will not do them justice because every Bosozoku logos i've seen are an embodiment of rebel remark from a passionate young soul saying "fuck the rules, fuck the establishment, to hell with mundane boring life! Let's just ride!" altogether with time-honored values inherited from the past. I desire the courage to be a designer that can honestly pours my soul and genuine expression on every opportunity that might come regardless of where I learned it from. You're right. I learned it from renowned culture based on bloodshed, hatred, and violence. Still, I personally have so much respect on the ethics and moral standards from each members and founding fathers of what-so-called biker gang hooligans roaming around the streets of Japan. どうもありがとう、暴走族!

Motorcycle Black Genuine Davidson Leather Quality Genuine Cowhide Biker Leather Harley Vests
The leather biker vest conjures ruggedness, toughness, and defiance. Leather quality is crucial for vests like Davidson’s. It’s a statement, protection, and craftsmanship, not just clothing. Genuine cowhide leather, which Davidson masters, defines a motorcycle leather vest.
Davidson’s leather vests start with excellent cowhide. Cowhide is known for its strength, durability, and aging gracefully. Instead of wearing out, cowhide develops character. The particular properties of cowhide make it excellent for motorcycle gear, which needs to be durable and protective.
The Davidson leather choosing process is thorough. The company buys hides from ethical producers. This guarantees high-quality, responsibly-sourced leather. The hide’s texture, thickness, and quality are checked. This rigorous screening procedure shows Davidson’s quality commitment.
After choosing the right cowhide, tanning begins. Tanning process is essential for making leather from hide. Traditional tanning by Davidson uses natural tannins. This procedure makes leather strong and attractive. The natural tanning procedure preserves the leather’s organic properties and beautiful patina.
The leather vest’s comfort and wearability depend on tanning. The thorough tanning procedure gives Davidson leather its softness. These vests are flexible and comfortable, conforming to the body without impeding movement important for motorcyclists.
After tanning, leather is colored. Classic hues that fit motorbike culture are chosen by Davidson. Naturally, black is most iconic. The dyeing process is controlled for equal color and depth. Davidson leather vests are elegant and timeless due to their deep black color.
Davidson’s vest stitching and assembly are also high-quality. Stitching is useful and decorative. Strong, careful seams make the vest motorcycle-ready. Every stitch shows the craftsmen’s skill and passion.
Functional motorcyclist-friendly aspects are included in Davidson’s leather vests. Strategically positioned and proportioned pockets contain essentials. Adopting the Cafe Racer Look: Leather Biker Vests in Modern Motorcycle Fashion
The leather biker vest is a canvas for expressing one’s identity and style in the world of motorcycle fashion, thus it serves as more than just a protective item. A leather biker vest adds timeless and modern cool to Cafe Racer look. Cafe Racer culture, which began in the 1960s, has always been about sleek lines, minimalism, and raw elegance that defies motorcycling traditions. This philosophy pairs well with leather vests, especially Harley-inspired ones made of high-quality cowhide leather.
Cafe Racers began as a British motorcycle subculture and are now a global flair. It involved stripping bikes for speed and handling and creating a unique dress style. In this perspective, the leather vest is a tribute to a historical movement, a time when motorcycling was about speed and brotherhood.
Modern Cafe Racers combine old and modern style. The leather vest is key to this combination. Minimalism and utility are key when choosing a Cafe Racer vest. To retain Cafe Racer clean lines, the vest should be sleek and unadorned. The leather must be robust and strong but flexible.
Cafe Racer style emphasizes customized fit. The leather vest should fit snugly and compliment the physique. Large gear can flail at high speeds, so don’t make it too loose or too tight. The ultimate Cafe Racer look requires this balance.
Vest color matters too. Cafe Racer culture values rebellion, hence black is the color of choice. Modern variations use brown and tan for a vintage look. Color depends on rider style and motorbike color scheme.
Cafe Racer style also excels in leather vest modification. Riders personalize their vests with patches, buttons, or embroidery. These customizations reveal a rider’s club affiliation, favored routes, or major riding accomplishments.
Vest functioning is also important. Cafe Racer riders choose vests with lots of pockets to carry things without a backpack. For easy access and the vest’s streamlined form, these pockets are placed strategically.
Cafe Racers use leather biker vests for more than just style. It provides weatherproofing and some abrasion resistance. It doesn’t protect like a leather jacket, but it can help with minor scrapes.
Modern technologies and materials have been used to design these vests. Some modern versions have stronger stitching, armor inserts at vital spots, and weather-resistant treatments for safety and comfort without sacrificing style.
In Cafe Racer fashion, the leather vest is more than clothing. It is a statement piece that shows a rider’s dedication to form and function. It shows the longevity of Cafe Racer culture, which combines old-school style with modern flair.
The leather vest becomes the focal point of a Cafe Racer-inspired costume when worn with denim, a white tee, and aviator sunglasses, or a more modern outfit. It can be dressed up or down for different occasions.
Cafe Racer fashion, centered on the leather biker vest, is more than apparel. A lifestyle, an attitude. It’s about freedom on the open road, group camaraderie, and motorcycling’s rich history. The leather vest, especially one made of genuine cowhide leather, honors this spirit. It embodies the Cafe Racer aesthetic, combining tradition and innovation.
