Saw some posts saying that you shouldn't criticize how James Somerton dresses because like how you dress is an expression of your identity and we're just reinforcing hegemonic beauty standards etc etc.

And like. Maybe. Maybe you might have a point.

Except that how he dresses is a calculated move. The coiffed hair. The narrow glasses. The fucking turtleneck. Especially the turtleneck. It's a deliberate choice by people like Elizabeth Holmes, Steve Jobs, and Louis CK to project a sense of intellectual authority. It's practically the uniform for a certain type of huckster.

You should absolutely be aware of and criticize how people in positions of power choose their outfits to influence your opinion of them.
