Facing Delay in Your Canada Immigration Application? Take These Steps
Tumblr media
Canada's immigration system is facing a massive backlog problem. COVID-19 pandemic, staffing shortages, high demand, and aging technology are some of the reasons for the delay.
When an individual applies to work, study or immigrate to Canada, they need to submit their application to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). IRCC then provides the usual processing times for applications which can vary depending upon the processing time of the application.
While you wait for an update on your application, here are your possible options
1) Check Your Application Status
The first step is to check the status of your application on the IRCC’s website. They provide a processing times tool that can give you an idea of the expected wait times. It is very important to ensure that all your documentation is complete and up to date to avoid any unnecessary delays.
2) Contact IRCC
To get more information on your application and its delay, you can file a web form enquiry or call at the IRCC customer care number. They may provide you a substantive response regarding the reasons for the delay. If your inquiries to IRCC go unanswered or are unsatisfactory, you can reach out to a local member of Parliament and ask them to file a status update request on your behalf.
3) Request GCMS, CAIPS, or FOSS Notes
If you have submitted your application after 2010, you can file for an Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) application. This allows you to obtain your Global Case Management System (GCMS) notes, along with Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System (CAIPS) notes or Field Operations Support System (FOSS) notes. These notes can provide you insights into any concerns or doubts raised by the IRCC officer and give you an opportunity to address them with additional evidence.
4)Hire a Lawyer
Tumblr media
You can seek a legal assistance by hiring an immigration lawyer. They can help you to navigate the process and assist in submitting a formal request letter through the IRCC webform, emphasising on the extended processing time, and the negative impact of the delay.
5) Applying for an Order of Mandamus
Once you exhaust all your possible options, you can choose to apply for an Order of Mandamus. This process involves seeking relief from the Federal Court, which puts pressure on IRCC you make decision on your application. For Order of Mandamus, it is advised to hire an immigration lawyer to assist you through the process as the threshold for obtaining an Order of Mandamus is high. To warrant this, there are eight conditions.
There must be a public legal duty to act (to process the application)
The duty must be owed to the applicant
There is a clear right to the performance of that duty, in particular that the applicant has satisfied all conditions giving rise to the duty and there was unreasonable delay
No other adequate remedy is available
The order sought will be of some practical value or effect
The Court finds no equitable bar to the relief sought
On a balance  of convenience, an order of mandamus should be issued

Unlocking the Secrets of Your Immigration File: How to Order GCMS Notes in Canada
As someone who has gone through the process of immigrating to Canada, I know first-hand how confusing and overwhelming it can be. There are so many forms to fill out, documents to gather, and deadlines to meet. One of the most important documents in your immigration file is your GCMS notes. In this article, I will explain what GCMS notes are, why they are important, and how to order them in Canada. I will also discuss alternatives to GCMS notes, processing times, and tips for interpreting and using GCMS notes to improve your immigration case.
What are GCMS notes?
GCMS stands for Global Case Management System. It is the electronic system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage immigration applications. GCMS notes are detailed, chronological notes that IRCC officers make in your file as they process your application. These notes can include information about your eligibility, security and criminality checks, medical exams, and any correspondence between you and IRCC.
Tumblr media
Why are GCMS notes important for immigration?
GCMS notes are important because they give you a detailed picture of how your application is progressing and what the IRCC officer is thinking. They can also help you identify any errors or omissions in your application, and give you an opportunity to correct them before a decision is made. Furthermore, if your application is refused, GCMS notes can provide valuable information about why it was refused and what steps you can take to appeal the decision.
How to order GCMS notes in Canada
To order GCMS notes in Canada, you must submit a request to IRCC. There are two ways to do this: online or by mail. To order online, you must first create an account with IRCC and then follow the instructions to submit your request. To order by mail, you must complete the Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Request Form and mail it to the IRCC office in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Alternatives to GCMS notes – CAIPS notes and ATIP requests
In addition to GCMS notes, there are two other types of notes that you can request from IRCC: Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System (CAIPS) notes and ATIP requests. CAIPS notes are similar to GCMS notes, but they are not as comprehensive. They are only available for applications that were submitted before 2015. ATIP requests are requests made under the Access to Information Act for information held by the federal government. They can include information from your immigration file, but they are not specific to immigration.
Processing times for GCMS notes and ATIP requests
The processing times for GCMS notes and ATIP requests can vary depending on the volume of requests that IRCC receives. Generally, GCMS notes take between 30 and 40 days to process, while ATIP requests can take up to 30 days. However, these are only estimates, and it is not uncommon for requests to take longer to process, especially if they are complex.
Applying for GCMS notes online
If you choose to apply for GCMS notes online, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, you will need to create an account with IRCC and provide some personal information, such as your name, date of birth, and immigration application number. Second, you will need to pay a fee of $5.00 CAD using a credit card. Finally, you will need to wait for IRCC to process your request and send you your GCMS notes by mail.
Tips for understanding and interpreting GCMS notes
Once you receive your GCMS notes, you may find them difficult to understand. They are written in technical language and can be very detailed. Here are a few tips to help you interpret them:
Read the notes carefully and make notes of any important information.
Look for patterns or trends in the notes that may indicate a problem with your application.
Pay attention to any dates or deadlines mentioned in the notes.
If you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification.
How to use GCMS notes to improve your immigration case
Once you have your GCMS notes, you can use them to improve your immigration case in several ways. Here are a few examples:
Correct errors or omissions in your application.
Address any concerns raised by the IRCC officer.
Provide additional documentation or information to support your application.
Appeal a decision if your application is refused.
GCMS notes vs. hiring an immigration consultant
Some people choose to hire an immigration consultant to help them with their application. While this can be helpful, it is important to remember that GCMS notes provide valuable information that can help you understand your application and make informed decisions. Hiring an immigration consultant does not guarantee that your application will be successful, and it can be expensive.
Conclusion
Ordering GCMS notes is an important step in the immigration process. They provide valuable information that can help you understand your application and make informed decisions. Whether you choose to order GCMS notes online or by mail, it is important to be patient and wait for IRCC to process your request. Once you receive your GCMS notes, take the time to read them carefully and use them to improve your immigration case. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask for help

Many Ontarians will receive government checks this week. This is because the first installment of the climate action incentive payment (CAIP) is due on July 15, along with a retroactive payment for April.
The CAIP is a tax-free payment designed to assist in offsetting the cost of federal pollution pricing. This follows the federal government’s decision in 2019 to impose a national carbon tax.
CAIP was previously distributed as an annual refundable credit, but as of this month, the government has switched to quarterly installments.
Only residents of Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba are eligible for the payment.
The amount residents receive is determined by their family situation and the province in which they live.
There is also a rural supplement of 10 percent of the base amount for residents of small and rural communities.
CAIP is not required for residents. Instead, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will determine eligibility using income tax and benefit returns.
Every year, income taxes and benefit returns must be filed to receive CAIP payments.
