Enya’s feet led her to the weald that was once her sanctuary as she walked down the path that was lit by faints shafts passing through the winding branches. She looked up with remorse to the gnarled oaks that rose high like cathedral colums, their barks pristine, preserved from the destruction she wrought in Haunze when she had been a Nobody. Only now was she able to sense the faint traces of protection magic of past keyblade wielders in its fullest. Greys like her...But she was undeservering to be called one of them. Her heart was weighed down by the atrocities committed during the Red Night and the Black Dawn that surely ashamed the ancient Haunzian keybearers. Her expression became pained with disgrace, self-imposed exile was the best for Haunze, but Enya believed her punishment for her blood-soaked penalties deserved to be far more severe. Leaves crunched under Valio’s feet as he stepped towards her.

“It's not your fault,” Valio spoke. “A part of you did this, and a part of you wanted this, but the only reason any of this happened was because of Xigbar. I know you would never do something like this.”

Enya turned to look into his blue-green eyes, "but I still did it, Valio," she said softly, regret heavy in her voice. "When I was Iryna I felt... nothing but logic. Like I was a living machine. To Iryna Haunze needed to be restarted," a shudder runs down her shoulders. “To her the people weren't... humans.”

Valio's stomach was cold at her words. “But the only reason she came to be was because of Xigbar! She's a part of you, but that doesn't mean that you're responsible for what brought her out!”

“But her actions are my own, that won’t ever change,” she swallowed, and her throat was so dry and constricted it was painful. Enya bowed her head, wind stirring gently the short strands of her dark hair, but its faint chill could not soothe the wound in her heart and soul. She had killed people. She had not meant to, and would give most anything to undo it, but it was done, and it was irrevocable. Decimated a city to reset its system, wrought destruction based on hypocritical justification. It was unforgivable. And she didn’t want to be forgiven.

Valio sighed, together they walked through the growing dusk, some feathers were strewn across the floor of the forest. The further they walked on, the more they saw more black feathers scattered around. Valio frowned and picked one up by its quill. “Wow, must have gotten into a really rough fight,” he angled it. “Think it's from an eagle?”

Enya shook her head, the only largest birds of prey she had often spotted were buzzards, and this primary wing feather was much larger than average so it couldn't belong to a raven either. A sudden long, low bay rent the air all around, Enya's breath caught, her skin horripilated, the Wraiths were on the hunt. She rushed forward, Valio picked up the pace and followed on her heels, they followed the spoor of black feathers.

10B/Decima (A Battle Unit Android of YorHa who shows more emotion than most. Flirtatious and protective of those she cares about, almost overly protective and will gladly kill for them. When fighting machines, she can almost come off as psychotic.)

Chiyumi Muzai (A Pokemon trainer from Hearthome with an Empoleon named Pippin as her starter and a friendly Altaria by the name of Peeps and many more Pokemon. Shy and slightly clumsy and tends to attract Pokemon when she doesn’t want to)

Blair Mahou (Braixen Gijinka who thinks she is a magical girl. Flirty and mischievous sometimes but mainly likes to help people with her ‘powers’. Likes to put on a show in order to gain reputation and hopes to get her own tv show)

Piper/Peeps (An Altaira Gijinka girl who can’t speak human very well and tends to just say Peep or chirp or hum. Very innocent and naive and loves to give hugs to people and can be a tad air-headed.)

Fairy Tail:

Emilia Clarimond (Emilia is a Celestial Wizard with the Jade Zodiac Keys, Mouse, Monkey, Tiger and Sheep! She is clever, stubborn, hard headed but can become friendly when she gets close to someone. To her, her Zodiac summons are like family. Has a Fate series Master verse!)

Genshin Impact:

Iyumi (Iyumi is a Fatui Mage hailing from Snezhnaya who is on the prowl for someone cute she can call hers. To most she acts vicious and snobby, ready to electrocute them should they get on her nerves. But should she find the someone she wants, she becomes more adoring and flirty, chasing after them until she can have them. Which can turn into an aggressive chase should the other not want her. Has a Demon and Dark Goddess AU!)

Kyana Aeira  (A Pyro Vision user from Mondstadt who dreams of becoming a Knight of Favonius one day. She works hard taking on random tasks from the people to prove herself capable. She is determined and optimistic and tends to  listen more to her emotions than think with logic. Has a One Piece AU!)

Monster Hunter:

Sonafuwa (A Paolumu who gained the ability to turn human. Sonafuwa is shy and tends  to stay in the trees and away from hunters so she won’t get hunted. When she meets someone friendly, she becomes more calm and is happy to make a new friend.)

Sakura (A Pink Rathian that gained the ability to turn human. Territorial at first but can become friendly if she sees the other means no harm. Prissy and doesn’t mind Hunters so long as she isn’t their target.)

Fandomless:

Ourania Thanos (A dragon that can turn into a human. Cocky, egotistical, and loves to  show off to others. Loves to fight people just to fight strong opponents  and also loves to eat lots of meat and drinks lots of ale. Has a Monster Hunter verse where she is a Zinogre gijinka) 

Kingdom Hearts:

Xia Malificia (A Nobody who is flirtatious, mischievous, and a bit manipulative. She wants to become a part of Organization XIII and use them for her own ends. A trouble maker. Has multiple AUs including a One Piece AU.)

Diana Fotieni (A keyblade wielder with a keyblade that is supposed to represent a balance of light and darkness. But Diana believes all darkness should be eradicated to protect the people. Acts rather knight like. Has a Pokemon verse and Final Fantasy 15 verse!)

Yugioh:

Miyuki Tenshi (A sweet, kind-hearted girl with a deck of angelic creatures revolving around Sanctuary in the Sky. She has the duel spirit of Happy Lover and is convinced she is the only one who has one as she has yet to meet anyone else who can see her. Has multiple AU verses.)

Aku Yazoi  (A  wannabe punk boy who is hot tempered and tries to act cool but is a sucker for cute girls. Is kind of a dweeb. Is from 5Ds. Also has fandomless verse for non-Yugioh threads)

Fandomless/Disgaea:

Zalira Deona  (A succubus who doesn’t really do succubus things. Her mom and dad are a powerful incubus and succubus pair who wanted her to follow in their footsteps. But all Zalira wanted was to laze around and eat human snacks and indulge in their culture (like manga!). Before they could send her to a demon academy, she ran away from home and ended up among humans.)

Fandomless/Zelda:

Colette Eirina  (Princess of Maas Kingdom and a rather air headed one at that. A hopeless romantic who reads tons of romance novels and is very naive but a sweet and kind person willing to help others. Though she mainly needs help herself.)

Fandomless:

Midori Mihata (A clumsy, terrified ninja who is probably not the best person to be a ninja. But she is trying to do her ninja clan proud. Also has a Naruto verse!)

Chloe Thaleia (Mischievous thief from a family of  thieves looking for her older brother who left home when she was a  child. Will steal from you playfully then give it back once she’s  caught. Has a magical greatsword she stole that can use the four  elements but she has no idea how to use it.)

Aiolos Thaleia (Older brother of Chloe. After witnessing his uncle (who had taught  them all they know about being a  thief) break the family code by murdering someone, he decided to go on a different path and leave the family. He strives to be a knight or a guard, something he sees as more honorable.)

KH OC Week 2019--Day 3: Friends or Lovers?

What Are Friends For?

[So this was fun to write. I was able to explore Erica's relationship with Ven a little more. And I also came to realize another trait of hers that apparently was staring right at me.

This is roughly about the same length as Together Through Wind and Sky, so this is long-ish. I can never write anything short, apparently. But without further ado, off we go! @khoc-week]

Today’s mission was to hunt down a large Heartless in Wonderland. And collect Lux, obviously. It was simple enough. She’d done it before. She just hoped it wasn’t another thunder-based Heartless. There were way too many close calls last time. And Grumpy had been complaining non-stop every time she’d come by the cottage.

“I still feel that zap that darned thing gave me!” he’d complain. And Erica would apologize every time.

Stepping through the corridor of light, she was met with the slightly humid and dewy Forest Grove.

“I wonder how Alice is doing,” Erica said.

She skimmed over her surroundings before beginning to make her way through the grove. A couple Yellow Operas appeared in her path, but she was quick to deal with them with a well-placed Fire Raid.

She wondered if she’d run into anyone today. Last time she came here she had met the White Rabbit. Or rather she saw him, since he was running about as usual. But at least they had exchanged a brief greeting before he disappeared to who knows where.

Heartless riding flower airplanes blocked her path. Summoning Starlight, Erica rolled out of the way of some incoming seeds before casting Blizzara at a Heartless. She barely had a moment to ready another attack when she had to deflect more shots.

“Thunder!”

The bolts demolished the small group. And like countless times before, Lux was released from the Heartless. For a brief moment, she felt its warmth before it disappeared into the air. Or at least, that’s what she assumed. She was never told where that light went—only to collect it.

Erica briefly scanned her surroundings. “All right. Coast is clear.”

She dismissed Starlight and pressed on. Upon entering a sort of small tunnel made of leaves, she ducked her head. Dew and strangely cedarwood filled her nose, and it reminded her of Snow White’s cottage.

I wonder if the prince ever tried her apple pie. The dwarves have told me it’s really good.

A shout pulled her out of her thoughts. Picking up the pace, Erica broke into a clearing dotted with small puddles. There was also a group of Heartless closing in on something by that big leaf. . . .

A Keyblade knocked a few Heartless back, pulling a gasp from Erica.

She knew that Keyblade.

“Ven!”

Ventus blocked incoming seeds as he risked a glance at Erica summoning Starlight.

“Incoming!”

Heartless were forced back as Erica’s Keyblade struck them. Seconds later, she caught her weapon and took her place next to Ventus.

“Erica? What are you doing here?” he asked.

“I’m tracking a Heartless down.”

“Really? Me too.”

Erica eliminated a Tornado Step with Fira. “Maybe we have the same mission.”

“I guess. But, we should take these guys out first.”

“Right!”

Together, the duo combated the Heartless. Light on his feet, Ventus breezed past several shots and threw his Keyblade at the Heartless. It ricocheted from one enemy to the next, and shortly afterwards some of them were destroyed by a thunder spell from Erica.

Erica jumped back from a Tornado Step’s ground pound before darting forward, and after some good whacks it was done for. Another Tornado Step spun toward her from behind, knocking her to the ground. She turned around to counter when a bolt of lightning struck it down.

“Thanks, Ven!”

He replied with a nod before blocking a Soldier’s claws. It swiped at him again, and Ventus darted behind it and swung his Keyblade down onto it. A heart floated up, and he felt the Lux’s brief warmth before it disappeared.

It wasn’t long before the Heartless were eliminated. The two wielders finished the fight back to back, and Ventus dismissed his Keyblade with a breath.

“Are you okay?” Erica asked.

“Yeah. I’ll be fine,” Ventus said, leading Erica to dismiss her own Keyblade. “What about you?”

“I’m okay.”

Ventus nodded, and his eyes traveled up the giant leaf. “You said we might have the same mission. So, what Heartless are you after?”

“Well I know it’s a big one. But I can’t remember what it’s called.”

“Do you remember what it looks like?”

Erica folded her arms. “Let’s see. The arms kinda look like they’re made of paper, it has two batons, aaaand the legs bend weird.”

“I guess we do have the same mission.”

“Okay. So let’s work together.”

“What? But . . . we’re from different Unions.”

“That shouldn’t matter.”

“It shouldn’t?”

Erica shook her head. “I still think we should work together. It’ll be easier. Besides, you’re my friend. I wouldn’t let you go after it alone, even if we’re from different Unions.”

He contemplated on her words. “I guess I wouldn’t want to let you do it alone, either.” He laced his fingers behind his head. “You’re my friend, too.”

Erica smiled. “Then let’s go get that Heartless!”

With a nod, Ventus followed her up the giant leaf, and they hopped from leaf to flower as they made their way to another leafy tunnel.

“Have you run into Alice?”

“I don’t think I have,” Ventus replied. “But I did see that cat.”

“Oh. He’s kind of . . . weird. But he helps. I think.”

“I did ask him if he’s seen that Heartless we’re after, but he just told me a riddle.”

“What was the riddle?”

“Somethin’ about reaching new heights fit for a ‘skittering little servant.’ ”

“Reaching new heights. . . . Maybe we have to get better?”

“I don’t think that’s it.”

Erica landed on another flower, but she didn’t quite keep her balance very well. She teetered from one side to the next before finding herself falling back, a squeak slipping out. Luckily Ventus was right behind her to keep her steady.

“Thanks. Again,” she said.

After correcting themselves, the two continued forward a little more carefully. They were getting pretty high up now, and she bet they probably looked like ants to anything that was bigger than them. 

Hey wait a second.

“I got it!” Erica blurted, making Ventus flinch. “Sorry.”

“You figured it out?” he asked.

“Well part of it. I think the cat was trying to tell you to keep going up. So we’re on the right track so far.”

“Oh. That makes sense. But, what about the servant part?”

“Not sure. But we’ll figure it out eventually.”

Ventus and Erica soon reached another leafy tunnel that gradually led to denser foliage the deeper they went in. Trees began to tower over them, and before they knew it they had reached a familiar but odd forest. Quite a few paths split off into many directions, and the signs that were meant to point the way were . . . vague, for starters.

“Hmm. Which way?” Erica asked.

Ventus held his chin. “We could go left.”

“There’s two lefts, and one of them’s a dead end.”

“But the other one leads to that tea party.”

“Okay. Let’s check there.”

Just as they took a few steps forward, Heartless appeared all around them. Both wielders summoned their Keyblades as they stood back to back.

“Ready?” Erica asked.

“Ready,” Ventus replied.

Erica darted to the side to avoid a ground slam from a Tornado Step as Ventus swiftly moved forward. Okay. No fire spells here. Too many trees.

“Thunder!” Erica shouted.

Soldiers and Flower Riders were stunned by the spell, and she hurled her Keyblade at them to finish them off.

Meanwhile with Ventus, he was dashing from one Heartless to the next. Every now and then he would glance over to Erica to see how she was doing. And so far she was doing fine.

He blocked incoming seeds before rapidly defeating the Flower Rider. Tornado Steps and Shadows closed in on him, and he casted Aerora to toss them around. Coating his Keyblade with air, he flung it towards the Heartless.

Erica whacked a Soldier into a tree, and she spotted dots of red from the corner of her eye. A couple Red Nocturnes were taking aim at Ventus, whose back was still turned.

“Ven!”

He turned around just as balls of fire came at him. But instead of hitting him. . . .

They collided into a crystal sphere that was now sheltering him.

“Woah! How’d you do that?” he asked.

“I’m uh, still learning that spell, so it kinda just . . . comes out,” Erica tried to explain.

“Wow. . . .” Ventus quickly shook himself from him stupor and rushed behind a Heartless before defeating it with a swift strike.

Casting Blizzara, he demolished the Red Nocturnes as Erica struck down a Tornado Step. A Soldier knocked her down, and she rolled out of the way of several seed shots. Jumping to her feet, she thrust Starlight into the Soldier. She led another Soldier to spin right into its comrades, and she found herself next to Ventus just finishing off a Heartless.

The remaining Heartless grouped together and eyed the duo, who returned their look. Together, Ventus and Erica dove right in. While Ventus’s attacks were quick and successive, Erica’s were occasionally laced with magic. And they both kept within each other’s sights.

“Wow you’re really fast!” Erica said, to which Ventus replied with a small laugh.

Within minutes the group of Heartless had shrunk down to a single Flower Rider. It fired once again at them, driving the duo apart. Both of them cast a different spell, and the Heartless was easily defeated.

“Phew! We did it.”

“I guess we did!” Ventus agreed.

The two dismissed their Keyblades as Erica made use of an Ether.

“Are you okay?” they both asked. They stared at each other for a moment before laughing.

“I’m all right,” Erica answered.

“Me too, but I think we should take a break before—”

Pattering and muttering from a pathway leading to a castle brought their attention to the White Rabbit jogging by.

“Hey it’s that rabbit,” Erica said.

“He seems calm for a change,” Ventus commented.

They watched him continue on his way in the direction of his quaint little house.

Calm for a change. . . . Hmm. . . .

“I think I figured out the rest of the riddle,” Ventus said.

“Really?” Erica asked.

“The skittering servant is supposed to be the White Rabbit.”

“So if we put it together, then that means we have to . . . find the White Rabbit somewhere high up?”

“Well, his house is higher than where we started.” Then it dawned on him. Oh no.

A scream suddenly filled the air.

“C’mon!”

Erica followed Ventus down the path the White Rabbit took. Once they reached the rabbit’s house, they spotted him cowering before their towering target.

“Sh-sh-shoo! Shoo! Oh why do these monsters always try to destroy my house?!” he cried.

“We’ll take care of it!” Erica assured as she and Ventus stood between the rabbit and the Heartless.

“It’s you! A-a-and you!”

“Find someplace safe!” Ventus urged. “We’ll handle this guy!”

“All right all right! Just don’t break my house!” The White Rabbit wasted no time in fleeing the area.

“Ready?”

“Ready!” Erica said.

The Heartless swung its batons down, forcing the duo to split.

“Ven, get the legs! I’ll try to get the weak spot!”

“Got it!” Ventus darted for the legs as Erica narrowly avoided another swing.

The Heartless swung down again, but this time she jumped onto its baton. It tossed its weapon up in an attempt to throw her off, but instead, it gave her the boost she wanted.

“Freeze!” Erica shot ice three times right at its chest before hurling her Keyblade as hard as she could. And every attack was a direct hit.

Catching Starlight, she felt herself begin to drop.

And she realized she had no plan on how to land.

“Not good!”

Ventus looked up at Erica falling and throwing her Keyblade at its hand, forcing it to drop its baton to keep it from swatting her out of the air. “Wind!”

His spell surrounded her just as she was coming close to the ground.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“Y-yeah. Guess I wasn’t really thinking,” Erica admitted.

They jumped back from another attack and locked onto its chest. Throwing their Keyblades, they made their mark and brought it down. With it vulnerable, they could easily attack its weak spot.

After several hits, however, the Heartless picked itself back up. Erica and Ventus veered away from it as it locked onto them. It raised its arms as Erica casted Thundara onto it, and Ventus once again came for its legs.

Only to stop once he noticed its batons were now lit.

The duo exchanged looks before evading fireballs, pulling a scream out of the White Rabbit.

“Quick, put the fire out!” Erica exclaimed.

The tip of Ventus’s Keyblade glowed an icy blue as the Heartless raised its arms again. He launched the spell at the last moment, but he was only able to put out one baton. A hand jerked him back in the nick of time, and he felt a wave of heat as the Heartless slammed down.

The ground shook, making the wielders stumble. It swung down again, and with a grunt Erica summoned a barrier. The batons pinged against it, momentarily stunning the Heartless.

Ventus extinguished the other baton the instant the barrier went down. He darted for its legs again as Erica used Blizzard Raid, but the Heartless batted Starlight away. The Keyblade embedded itself right into the tree the White Rabbit was hiding behind, pulling another scream from him.

Erica felt a breeze as she narrowly rolled away from a swing. Spotting her weapon partially coating a tree with ice, she reached her hand out to it. Come on. . . . I need you to come back!

“Erica!”

All she saw was a blur of purple and black, and the next thing she knew, she was sent flying through the air.

Her back slammed into a tree. Black flashed across her vision as she slid down, and she barely registered the ground beneath her.

“Erica!”

Ventus casted a quick Blizzard spell before sprinting for her. She struggled to push herself up, but her arms easily gave out.

The Heartless trained its eyes onto Ventus and readied an attack. Erica willed herself to speak, but any warning she had remained caught in her throat.

Ventus followed her gaze too soon, and he was sent soaring toward the White Rabbit’s garden. 

A noise was all Erica could muster as the Heartless set its gaze onto him and advanced. “No. . . .”

She weakly extended her hand out to her Keyblade, straining to keep fear from gripping her heart.

Please. I need you to come back. I need to protect my friend.

A moment passed.

Then another.

And another.

Come on. . . .

The White Rabbit yelped. A familiar warmth filled her heart, and it traveled to her hand with a shing. When she opened her eyes, Erica saw Starlight once again within her grasp.

Staking it into the ground, she dragged herself to her feet and did her best to stand tall despite her body’s protests.

“Hey!”

The Heartless looked to her.

“Get away from my friend!”

Erica held her Keyblade poised behind her as she eyed the Heartless. She sprinted forward with all her might, and with one fell strike she brought the Heartless to its knees with a flash of light.

Pain rippled across her body, but she shoved it aside and made her way to Ventus.

“Ven!”

A groan slipped out of him as he struggled to push himself up.

“Heal.”

Green light surrounded Ventus as a soothing relief washed over him, and Erica felt her usual spark of magic vanish. His eyes drifted to the downed Heartless and the line in the grass. Then his eyes moved to Erica doing her best to ignore her pain.

“Are you okay?”

“Y-yeah but . . . you’re hurt,” Ventus said.

“You come first.” Erica held her hand out to him, but a wince forced her to pull it back.

Ventus got to his feet and summoned his Keyblade to heal her, spending nearly all of his magic.

“Thank you. Again. Heh.”

Creaking turned their attention to the rising Heartless.

“Are you gonna be okay?” Ventus asked.

Erica used an Ether and gave one to him. “As long as we stick together, I’ll be okay.”

“Then . . . I’ll be okay, too.”

The Heartless juggled its batons and stared the young wielders down. Wind from Ventus knocked the batons out of its hands and soaring into some branches. Erica casted Thundaga, forcing it back a few steps before using Thunder Raid.

“Let’s do this!” Erica cheered.

“Right!” Ventus said.

They charged forward with Keyblades at the ready. Leaping up into the air, they sliced right through the Heartless with a united strike and a streak of light.

It staggered back and strained to stay on its feet, but it eventually collapsed onto the ground with a loud thud. The Heartless faded away, releasing a massive heart as well as an influx of Lux in the process.

Erica sighed in relief as she placed her hands on her knees. “We . . . we did it.”

Ventus plopped down onto the grass with a huff. “Y-yeah. . . .”

“My house!” the White Rabbit exclaimed.

They looked to the creature running out of his hiding spot.

“You saved it! A-and me! Thank you thank you!”

“You’re welcome,” Erica said.

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some tea to make.” The rabbit then hurriedly entered his house.

“I think I’m ready to head home.”

“Me too,” Ventus said.

Erica summoned Starlight as he got to his feet. “Hey Ven?”

“Hmm?”

“We’re still meeting at Waterfront Park, right?”

Ventus nodded with a smile. “Yeah.”

Erica gazed at the pinks, purples, and oranges of the sky. Today’s mission was going to make her sore tomorrow. But at least she hadn’t been alone. And she hoped other wielders had the same fortune Ventus and she did. She hated that wielders going missing was a normal occurrence.

“Sorry if I kept you waiting.”

She looked to her right to see Ventus coming her way. “Don’t worry, you didn’t.”

He joined her by the rail, and the waves below filled the silence for a few moments. “Y’know, I’m glad we did the mission together. It would’ve been pretty bad if we didn’t.”

“I’m glad, too. We had some really close calls.”

“We sure did. I still can’t believe you brought that Heartless down by yourself when you came to help me.”

“I didn’t want it to hurt you.”

He paused. “I wish you’d be more careful, though. I don’t want you getting hurt, either.”

“I’ll be more careful. I promise.”

Ventus nodded. His gaze traveled to the island with the lighthouse. He wondered if he’d ever get to go there again. The beach was nice, and seeing the stars from there with Chirithy that one time was even nicer. He did almost fall asleep there, though.

“Do you ever wonder where the Lux goes after we collect it?” Erica asked.

“Sometimes. But, I don’t think we’ll ever find out.”

Erica frowned. Ephemer had mentioned something about “how it all worked” when they first met, but that was a secret. “I think it goes back to the worlds. They do have their own light, after all.”

“I guess you’re right.”

They filled the silence with idle chatter as the sun began to sink lower into the horizon. Erica mentioned an oasis she’d come across in Agrabah, to which Ventus said he’d never seen. She told him how beautiful it was and how the water seemed to sparkle like sapphires and stars. And if she didn’t know any better she’d say it was also a little cooler there despite being in the midst of a desert.

“Maybe we could go there some time,” she had said.

“It does sound really nice,” Ventus replied. “Yeah. We should go some time.”

Soon the first stars began to blink awake, and Ventus did his best to hold back a yawn.

“Maybe we should head home. It is getting pretty late.”

“Yeah, you’re right.” Erica faced him. “Thanks for having my back today.”

“Sure. And uh, thanks to you, too.”

She smiled at him and gave him a quick hug. “See you tomorrow?”

Ventus nodded. “I’ll try my best.”

    Disagreeable days become unforgiving weeks. Whether time is darting ahead at a breakneck pace or lagging at their heels may differ by the individual keyblade wielder, but regardless of any distinctions between experiences, one thing that they all share is having absolutely nothing to show for its passage. Their efforts notwithstanding, Sora’s whereabouts are just as elusive as they were the moment he phased out of existence atop the paopu palm.

    How they’re supposed to continue calling themselves Guardians of Light when they’re struggling to salvage a single friend’s heart is beyond Ventus, but he keeps that—and most everything else—locked away behind pursed lips.

    Nothing has made the slightest bit of sense to him since the brunette’s disappearance. With a swimming head and a chest that throbs from an eerily familiar ache, every waking hour amounts to a blur. However little he manages to sleep, his dreams—no, nightmares—still border on endless, all while being plagued by ghosts with faces known and unknown. Terra, Aqua and Lea’s words of support fall on deaf ears. The hands that come to rest on his shoulders don’t offer the same warmth that they once had. As a matter of fact, he’s grown numb to their touch.

    Try as he may to reach inside of himself and find any sole spark of determination, his hopelessness is incessant in its scope. There’s not a single moment's reprieve from its clutches.

    When the guardians reconvene in what will amount to another vain attempt at formulating a plan that doesn’t rely on some form of completely baseless conjecture, it’s all become far too much for Ventus to continue coping with.

    The frustration, the guilt, the lack of stability—they’re a perfect recipe for a breaking point.

    And the lacking is what this is really about, isn’t it? The boy’s fractured heart wasn’t repaired by Sora, nor re-completed. It was merely cauterized and given a crutch, that crutch being Sora himself. Without that crutch—without him—it’s no wonder that Ventus has been reduced to a puddle that’s just as despondent as it is useless, as is supported by the way he takes two meek steps backwards in advance of bolting out of the makeshift meeting room they’ve made out of Yen Sid’s study.

    Beneath the glow of the cosmic lamps that line the subsequent hallway, he presses a quivering palm as flat as is manageable against the nearest wall and slowly slinks down into a rickety crouch, sandwiching his skull between both hands as if it will block out all of the stimuli that threatens to bowl him over for its sheer intensity.

    An anxiety induced fog keeps the blonde thoroughly ensnared in its folds until the door at his curved back creaks.

    “It’s okay to cry.”

    Breath catching, Ventus clamors back upright, whipping to meet the empathetic gaze of none other than Xion.

    Of all of the people that he might have figured would chase after him had he stopped to consider it, he’d never once entertain the idea that it would be her. Intertwined by friends in common as their hearts are, they haven’t exactly had the opportunity to get acquainted beyond that. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that they don’t know the first thing about one another.

    Still, her suggestion must resonate within him.

    The dam he hadn’t even realized he’d fortified all on his own bursts. Brows scrunch, hardened mouth twitching just slightly before adopting a dramatically expressive downward curl. Like thawing ice, heavy tears amass, then overflow. The bulk of his weight is lent to the partition while he bows his head, futilely scrubbing at his all too wet cheeks and lashes with the backs of his wrists.

    “Y-Y—... nn!” They’re laden with hiccups, but the sounds Ventus chokes out do eventually manifest as words. “I just... w-want him... ba—ack!”

the whole playing build-a-boy thing went well, and now the master is proud mom to a new boy—a new boy who needs to be shown around daybreak town and everything it has to offer. “so, yeah. this is daybreak town.” they’re standing in the center of town at the moment, by the large fountain that’s probably the most notable landmark.

“it’s getting busier as the days go by, so you’ll get to see this place grow with you! pretty neat, huh?” yeah, he’s proud. picking the clock tower as a place of residence was a good choice, especially when it overlooks a town as beautiful as this. “soon this place’ll be filled with keyblade wielders from all around the world. they’ll call it home. hopefully.

he turns his attention to luxu, his hands linking behind his back. “so, first impressions of the place: go.”

Five decades in the past, for most people, and two weeks earlier only for Xehanort, he’d been still a pilgrim with a mission to see the worlds, learn about them and prove to his Master that he was ready to be a Master himself. As of then, however, there were other plans in motion. His future plans, as he’d been told, and they required him to move through time. 

Xehanort knew he could have arrived to the exact point where he was needed and then moved on, but even though he was meant to forget everything as he returned to his own time, he was both curious and cautious. He could easily spend a day seeing the worlds and then ensure he wasn’t late to meeting the first of the hearts he had to guide to a later point in the timeline. 

Radiant Garden was, moreover, one of the worlds he’d visited during his pilgrimage, and he couldn’t help wondering what would have become of it half a century after he’d last set foot on it. traversing a Corridor of Darkness took only an effort of will, and then a moment to check that he really was in the right world. He wasn’t yet used to traveling like that. The world was still familiar enough, the same castle looming over the town and the same streets to greet him, if only slightly older. The familiarity was comforting, and he lowered the hood of the coat so as not to call too much attention to himself. 

What wasn’t so comforting was the gaggle of creatures that appeared not long afterwards, all jagged edges and dark colors and definitely nothing Xehanort had ever seen before. They fell to his magic and his dual blades easily enough, but by then he was as curious as he was worried. The people of the closest shops couldn’t tell him anything, however, and he had to be cautious about his presence, but the moment he noticed a boy who was wearing what he recognized as a piece of Keyblade armor, Xehanort decided to approach him. A heartbeat later he’d vanished in the shadows and appeared behind him, tapping him on the shoulder with a finger. 

“You’re a Keyblade Wielder, aren’t you?” He asked, if only to check.

sleep seems to evade them both yet again, and instead of terra calling ventus out on it ( only for the fact that ventus will immediately call terra out in return ), he leads them to the kitchen so that he can make them tea in the hopes of it easing their nerves.

as terra sets about making the tea and ventus finds the cookies aqua had baked earlier that day and hid from them ( she had said they were for tomorrow's meeting, though they both know she had made a batch just for them ), terra filled the silence to keep their minds off of whatever had kept them awake.

             "you know, when i first got here," he said, waving around vaguely to the castle, "i wasn't all that happy." he brought over the mugs, sliding one to ventus before taking his seat and grabbing one of the cookies.

             "they're really good. aqua's cookies are always really good-- but they're really good this time." ventus took a bite of his cookie, swiping another from the plate before he'd even finished his current one. "so. . . you weren't happy when you first got here? i didn't know that."

             "hey, leave some for me," terra said, swatting ventus' hand away from the plate with a chuckle before he shrugged. "aqua and i don't really talk about it anymore, but -- yeah. i was. . . angry." terra's fingers tapped against his mug, looking over at ventus. "i'd just lost everything on my world, and master eraqus had brought me here because he sensed my potential to be a keyblade wielder.

             "i wouldn't talk to aqua or master eraqus for a while because i wanted to be by myself, but aqua started stalking me."

             "what?" ventus coughed, hitting his chest as he tried not to choke on his cookie. "aqua--- stalked you? i dunno-- it's weird to think you guys didn't ever talk."

             "yeah," terra laughed, lifting his mug to drink from it. "she'd follow me around when i'd go wandering. i guess she felt just as alone as i did and wanted a friend." he smiled softly, looking over at ventus. "i scared her one time, though--- and that's how we started talking. i wish you could've seen her face."

he wasn't sure why he was telling ventus this story -- maybe because he hadn't told it before? because he wanted ventus to know he wasn't the only one who had come here not at all like himself? maybe he was just trying to fill the silence however he could. 

             "you should ask her about it sometime. but also be prepared to run and. . . don't tell her where i am. but-- come find me because i'm not sure i could fend her off for long."

        lea’s relationship with sora started off rocky for one, flashing back to the times when he was known as axel from organization xiii and not himself. axel had done things that he was not proud of, then later recognizing his own mistakes which would often lead to disastrous results. back then, it was nothing new because axel had definitely done things that were necessary to further his own goals, recklessly so. 

        but even then, those he had wronged in the past had eventually come to forgive him. however he never really thought about it since, as he wasn’t the type to really dwell on it for long but at the same time, lea wasn’t too good at expressing gratitude sometimes but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t thankful for it, right?

        as if his thoughts were right on queue, he spotted sora from a few distances away since it was not too difficult to make out his distinct voice from the rest. if he was being completely honest, he did not really remember the last time they shared an actual conversation after everything. guess they all had their own problems to deal with. makes sense.

         “yo, sora!” he shouts from a distance, walking his way towards the familiar keyblade wielder. however it looked super awkward with himself dragging his wooden sword around in place of his keyblade and all. “how are ya? looking chipper as usual, but i expected nothing less from you.”

“i’ve been to other worlds before, but none so...big as this one,” terra said, looking out at the fields of askr that seemed to stretch on forever. the way things worked in askr was confusing, to say the least. the world seemed impossibly big, full of different kingdoms, with days long journeys between each one, and from the way everyone spoke, it seemed like this was the norm for all the worlds connected to askr.

                        it left the keyblade wielder feeling a bit out of his depth.  “what’s your world like?”

Shay Pierina (A Miqo’te who was found as a child outside a small village that is part of the Ul’dah kingdom. Adopted by kind Hyurs, she lived in poverty but didn’t let it bother her and worked to protect her family. Orabella Kalon (A shy summoner who can summon tiny birds, fairies that serve Titania, and a spider. Wants to teach magic to others as she finds it so fascinating and wonderful. Has a League of Legends verse)

Cheza Fènghuáng (A phoenix princess from a Matriarchy kingdom called Nán Sòng. A major bookworm and very anti-social, usually staying inside and reading unless her mischievous mother makes her go outside to meet people. Has two retainers that follow her sometimes.)

Ourania Thanos (A dragon that can turn into a human. Cocky, egotistical, and loves to show off to others. Loves to fight people just to fight strong opponents and also loves to eat lots of meat and drinks lots of ale. Has a Monster Hunter verse where she is a Jinouga gijinka)

Iyumi Akuma (A bratty, whiny, wannabe queen with high delusions. She can be a major pain, demanding attention or demanding servants but deep down wants a king to serve and be submissive towards. Can change to be better with time.)

Chloe Thaleia (Mischievous thief from a family of thieves looking for her older brother who left home when she was a child. Will steal from you playfully then give it back once she’s caught. Has a magical greatsword she stole that can use the four elements but she has no idea how to use it.)

Colette Eirina (Princess of Maas Kingdom and a rather air headed one at that. A hopeless romantic who reads tons of romance novels and is very naive but a sweet and kind person willing to help others. Though she mainly needs help herself. Has a Legend of Zelda verse and Konosuba verse)

Pokemon:

Chiyumi Muzai (A newbie Pokemon trainer from Hearthome with a Piplup named Pippin as her starter and a friendly Swablu by the name of Peeps. Shy and slightly clumsy and tends to attract Pokemon when she doesn’t want to)

Blair Mahou (Braixen Gijinka who thinks she is a magical girl. Flirty and mischievous sometimes but mainly likes to help people with her ‘powers’. Likes to put on a show in order to gain reputation and hopes to get her own tv show)

Peeps (An Altaira Gijinka girl who can’t speak human very well and tends to just say Peep or chirp or hum. Very innocent and naive and loves to give hugs to people and can be a tad air-headed. Belongs to Chiyumi)

Emilia Clarimond (A Celestial Wizard from the town of Hargeon with Chinese Zodiac keys. Loves to dress fashionable and can be kind of bratty. Has the Monkey, Tiger and Mouse Jade Keys. Currently looking for a wizard guild to join. Also has a Fate series verse where she is a Master and a fandomless verse)

My Hero Academia:

Tia “Usagi” Faye (Bubbly kind of girly girl whose quirk is electricity and magnetism. She uses this alongside rollerblading to fight and calls herself Usagi for the jump tricks she can pull off while blading around. A student at UA. Also has a The World Ends with You verse where she is a Player.)

Kyana Aeira (A wannabe heroine with the ability to conjure fire. Easily excitable and tends to rush into fights without thinking but wants to help the world and has a big heart. Also has an Overwatch verse.)

Kingdom Hearts:

Xia Malificia: (A Nobody OC. Mischievous, flirty, and beautiful, she loves to charm men into giving her money, power, or information. Or all of the above. Has plant powers where she summons vines to her aid and can summon Alraune Nobodies. Wants to possibly join Organization 13.)

Ai Malificia: (Somebody of Xia. Very sweet and gentle, innocent and shy. Kept safe in her mansion home, she knows very little of the outside world except what she has learned from books until the day she fell into darkness when Heartless attacked her home of Radiant Garden.)

Diana Fotieni (A keyblader OC with a strong sense of duty to her job as a keyblade wielder. She is usually serious and cares deeply about upholding justice and never falters against those she considers evil. Also has a Final Fantasy XV verse where is a wannabe Kingsglaive. Also has fandomless verse)

Yugioh:

Christina Terrwyn (Spunky, rambunctious tomboy with a dragon deck. Has Digimon, general fantasy verse and DBZ verse. Loves to show off and take things to the absolute extreme. Has DM and GX verses.)

Aku Yazoi (A wannabe punk who is hot tempered and tries to act cool but is a sucker for cute girls. Is kind of a dweeb. Is from 5Ds. Also has fandomless verse)

Nier Automata:

10B (A Battle Unit android who is more emotional than the androids of YorHa usually are. She is playful and a tad flirtatious, calling people darling just for the fun of it. She is also very protective of humans or anyone she deeply cares for to the point where she will kill whoever harmed them)

It is not often the Warrior finds himself out and about in Radiant Garden, mostly preferring to remain in the timeless realm where his peace and quiet could be left undisturbed but every once in a while, he would want to stretch his legs out. 

He had spent time catching up with the others, learning the happenings and offering his assistance if it were needed but now he had free time, so an evening walk was well deserved. 

He had found himself near the now abandoned castle of Ansem the Wise, though the exterior was still under heavy construction , at least the plaza had been restored to it’s former glory, Leon and the committee were really putting their all into these efforts. 

At this time of day, he expected it to be void of much residence but lo did he find himself in the wrong when he finds a silver haired boy there...ah that must be--

“ You must be Riku, if I am not mistaken. “ the older man speaks, voice steady and calm as he approached the young keyblade wielder, his armor no doubt warning the other of his presence. The Warrior had heard of him through the grapevine as well as of Sora and their other comrades but had never had the opportunity to meet them face to face.

★— She can sense magic before she sees it, Chirithy pulling ahead toward a corner leading to the plaza. The little spirits paws wave frantically, as though it might usher Ava forward faster. The plaza, as expected, has several more heartless than usual ( perhaps the Unions all somehow managed to send wielders to other worlds on the same day ).

To the redhead’s credit, he seems to have a good handle on the situation, but Ava isn’t one to leave someone to fight on their own. Her Keyblade flares into existence, and flames gather at it’s tip to fire at an oncoming Heartless before she even calls out: “Look out!”

Fifth Union Leader: Strelitzia

With the latest update from Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross], we were introduced to Strelitzia, the fifth Union Leader of the Dandelions.

Strelitzia is an interesting case. She has been a Keyblade wielder for 2 years. Referring back to the fight between Aced and Invi in Kingdom Hearts Back Cover, we know that at that point the Master of Master’s had disappeared just a year prior. Does this mean that Strelitzia was a Keyblade wielder back before the Master of Masters disappeared? Or is her monologue just supposed to take place a year after that fight between Aced and Invi? It’s hard to say really. The way it’s played up it would seem as though Strelitzia’s monologue is meant to take place around the time she was approached by Ava to become one of the new Union Leaders - but who knows.

Anyway, Strelitzia explains that she has been fighting the Darkness for a long time, and as a result she’s seen many of her friends come and go - particularly it focusses on the three Keyblade wielders who died when the Neoshadows first broke out in Daybreak Town - so it would seem as though they were in the same party as Strelitzia.

Strelitzia goes on to say that there is only one person she’d consider as a friend who has stayed all this time, and that person is Player. Recalling her first encounter with Player, Strelitzia remembers that she had been sitting in her favourite spot (atop a building overlooking the Fountain Square) with her Chirithy, when the Chirithy saw Player. He was waiting in the Fountain Square (for Ephemer), and that no matter how many times she passed through there throughout the day, Player did not leave that spot. Later Strelitzia recounts how in the end she saw Player holding his Chirithy and crying.

From there, Strelitzia would see Player from time to time - and was instinctively drawn to him.  Though she could never muster the courage to engage with Player, Strelitzia could sense that there was something special about Player - as he saw things differently than everyone else. It shows that Strelitzia was there even when Player was attacked by Aced just before the Keyblade War. Although Player did not know her, Strelitzia came to see him as a friend, and looked forward to the day the two of them could talk to one another.

Eventually, this lead to Ava personally approaching Strelitzia and asking her to become one of five Dandelions to succeed the Foretellers following the Keyblade War and guide their comrades to the world outside, where they would have their memories erased and life for them would appear to continue as usual. Though we don’t know what Strelitzia said to Ava - we do know that she accepted the role, as Nomura has already said that she’s the fifth Union Leader, meaning that in the next update we will likely see her arrival at the Keyblade Graveyard where she will interact with Ephemer, Skuld, Ventus, and Blaine.

How Strelitzia Connects to Other Characters

I now have no doubt in my mind that Strelitzia is Kairi’s grandmother. For starters, both of them have red hair and blue eyes (though Strelitzia’s is a lot lighter, but this can be explained easily with genetics). 

Furthermore, Strelitzia’s outfit includes a white dress and sleeves which bear a pattern similar to the one found both on Kairi and Naminé - further connecting the two. 

Furthermore, the sleeves resemble the sleeves that Aqua wears - and Aqua was designed as a character who was meant to have a direct tie to Kairi - being how Kairi can wield the Keyblade in the first place - something which can be seen in the connection of a water theme between Aqua-Kairi-Naminé. 

Further “evidence” can be found in the meaning of Strelitzia’s name, as “strelitzia” is a genus of flower commonly called the “Birds of Paradise” - which in my opinion relates back to the whole aesthetic of the tropics that can be found within Kairi’s eventual home on Destiny Islands.

As well, Strelitzia’s observation of Player is weirdly similar to Invi and how her role is to observe her fellow Foretellers. This works well, considering that they’ve been setting up how Skuld is very Ava-esque, while Ephemer is becoming the leader like Ira, Blaine is questioning the laws that Ava passed down like Aced, and I guess Ventus is supposed to be like Gula somehow (maybe in his nonchalant mannerisms)

All in all we’ll have to wait and see, but I just hope that Player is not Kairi’s grandfather if this is indeed the case, because with the way Strelitzia was introduced it could go either way.
