HAPPY HOLIDAYS @despitethecold ! I come bearing a gift for you, courtesy of @gtafest !
Your prompts were GORG and I loved them all, but I saw your suggestion of a very Lester Christmas(tm), and decided to give him some love because he's underrated imo <3
Also because complex holiday feelings and complex feelings surrounding disability... felt 😔✌️
But I promise this has a happy ending :} Hope you enjoy it!

Let me know if you’d like a more permanent copy of this, too! I’m always happy to provide a PDF version of the writings I do!
[NEOCITIES MIRROR]
Life keeps ticking. That’s what everyone says, isn’t it? That life’s some great climb; you only get one, so live it to your fullest! Hell, he brought into that ideal briefly–thought it would make things in his personal life better. But it didn’t. And now that the snow began to fall in the once tropical streets of Los Santos, and the neighboring homes began to glisten with multicolored strings and twinkling lights, Lester realized that yet another year had rushed by.
He was just another year closer to the inevitable.
It hurt when it’d hit him. Punched him in the gut as the realization sunk and kept sinking. It was going to be harder to get out of the house now, more than it already was given the crumbling steps in front of his home and the lack of reliable transportation now that… he was alone. Back to ol’ reliable: Solitude. Isolation. The status of a ghost, as everyone else had to go off the radar after The Big One™. What was done was done, and it was done for good. Michael and Trevor seemed to have made up enough to not kill each other in the end–truly a Christmas miracle, if one was to ask Lester–and Franklin decided that he was done with this sort of life. He struck gold, and decided after all the shit he’d been through… enough was enough. He wasn’t going to throw it all away because he got a luckier break than his counterparts. Or so Lester had thought, until he’d caught a glimpse of movement outside the door. A blip on the security screen. Tired hands reached up to adjust thinly-framed glasses, eyes squinting to account for the change in focus. When they did, a finger slid to enable the microphone.
“Franklin? What are you doing here?”
The bundled-up man outside looked around, then up to the corner. His head tilted until he’d noticed the camera staring back at him.
“Hey! Lester. What’s good man, was wonderin’ what you were up to. I was in the area and… you know, figured I’d drop by.”
Not a lie; not the whole truth. The fact of the matter is… Franklin missed the camaraderie, despite the intense arguments and the chaos that often ensued. He missed the opportunity; the feeling of being busy and having a purpose beyond everything he’d settled into. One thing was certain enough, though: There was no way in Hell he was going home for the holidays. Denise would have his head if he’d suddenly shown up after fucking off to his new home in the hills–after all, she’d finally gotten what she wanted: peace and quiet and a home to herself. Lamar and him were still on rocky terms after everything, too. Sure, they’d more or less made up, but there was still tension in the air; a stiff sense of betrayal that’d left a bitter taste on their tongues. And beyond that… The Unholy Trinity were all Franklin really had. With them gone their separate ways, the best option–besides spending the holidays miserable and alone–was with the one connection he knew he had.
And it went both ways.
“Alright, fine, come in.” A few button presses. A click. The door unlocked and Franklin was more than happy to step into the warmth that’d awaited. Hands finally left his pockets, rubbing together rapidly to take it all in. The friction alone generated enough heat to warm his palms, whilst the interior’s stiffness brought the backs to an equal temperature.
“Surprised nobody else stopped by. Woulda thought…”
Lester wheeled himself from the computer and to the cluttered living area. When he got to the threshold, he felt along the wall until the hilt of his cane fell into his hands. He took a moment, adjusting the placement, before using it to pull himself up and lazily push the chair back.
“Michael’s been handling things with his family, and Trevor… well… he’s doing his own thing I’m sure.”
“You doin’ your own thing too?”
“Something like that. You know, I’m… surprised you’re here. Figured you would have found some chaos to dig yourself into.”
A lighthearted, albeit stilted, laugh from Franklin. “Nah… Flyin’ solo for now.”
Curiosity. “And your first thought was to come here to resolve that?”
Well, when Lester put it like that… it sounded pathetic. Sad. Bitter. And perhaps it was. The subtle disavowing of his own worth, and the subtle chiding of Franklin’s loneliness. There was recognition in it. An intimate understanding of what it felt like to be alone while the world around you kept moving. Franklin sighed and shrugged, finding himself skirting around the question in an attempt to guide the conversation elsewhere.
“Well, it’s on the way up to Mirror Park. When Lamar and I were kids, we’d always walk up that way and look at all the decorations people put up–’course I drove down here and parked somewhere else. Wasn’t about to haul my ass down from the Hills–but he’s got his own thing going, and sometimes walking alone’s just… you know, relaxing.”
“Can think as much or as little as you want, that it?” A subtle vulnerability; an acknowledgment of understanding.
“Exactly.” A pause. “You wanna come? Could be fun laughing at all the tacky blow-up Santas and shit.”
And as much as Lester wanted to say yes, he knew all too well going out in the cold and walking was not an option. Nowadays, walking was hardly an option as is; everything fucking hurt and the more he lingered on his feet idly chatting about the prospect, the more he felt like just laying down and trying to sleep it off. Was it the best way to manage the pain? No, but it beat the amount of medications he was taking just to ‘stay functional’ while overseeing the Unholy Trinity’s shenanigans. Now, it was down to the bare essentials, and even then…
“Look, Franklin, I appreciate the gesture. Really. But… Ah, fuck it.”
It wasn’t worth rehashing. Not to him; Franklin, however, noticed the hesitation backing his words. The subtle but visible discomfort as Lester pressed on toward the door.
“Hey–hold up. Let me go get my car.” A pause. “Does your chair fold?”
He paused.
“That old thing? Never got around to getting one that could. Figured most of my work was done in-house and I’ve never been interested in going around the city and witnessing all these… whiny West Coast douchebags.” A subtle smile followed by laughter from Franklin.
“Man, fuck you–this whiny West Coast douchebag’s trying to be a good friend and this is the thanks I get?” A lighthearted jab–Franklin was already in the midst of pulling out his keys and stepping out the door. “Listen. I’ll go get my car, ride us up to the little lot by the park, and we’ll take it from there, yeah?”
“... Alright, fine. Only because you twisted my arm. And, uh, thanks Franklin.”

All In The Bathroom
(the beginning of a REALLY stupid series. Modern AU. Theres no lore in this and its loaded with inside jokes. really self indulgent stuff. pls, enjoy!)
There’s some kind of magic that comes about whenever you’re about to turn 27, I’ve noticed. Not anything desirable. The world seems to want you to feel old, and all that work you’ve been doing since you turned 16 is catching up and helping prove the point. It’s your birthday today. You’re tired. You haven’t called your grandma like you said you would. You still haven’t completed that associate’s degree and have no intention of starting again. Your left knee has a mild ache inside of the joint that you just know is going to intensify before the next morning. You’re full-time employed by ThatsABurger! ™ Co. in a musty tourist town nestled on the coast of northern Florida. You’re working alongside four people who, through the process of elimination, are probably your best friends, and you’re all in the bathroom together.
“It’s not a hurricane, it’s a derecho,” Sil corrected. “Says they happen in the area once every… four years.” He zoomed into the wikipedia article on his phone and turned it around to show the group. Almalexia cared deeply. I glanced about while everyone else shuffled their feet in discomfort from the confinement.
“Ohh! We get those all the time up in Saint Louis,” She said. “Hopefully we shouldn’t have to stay here long.”
“We shouldn’t have to stay here at all.” I interjected. The winds weren’t even that bad compared to what we’d been through here before. Almalexia wasn’t from the area, and as Co-Assistant Manager she had insisted we all take cover as soon as the storm hit, just in case the radar happened to be wrong and it turned out to be an entire disaster. She’s always worrying about this stuff, and it’s part of why the kitchen runs so smoothly when she’s on the clock. Still, it gets annoying. Obviously nobody wants to be out during a storm, but we’d still get into massive trouble should our manager walk in and see us cowering like idiots. Nerevar rolled his eyes at my comment and decided to defend his girlfriend.
“Just let it be, Voryn. We could all use some time off our feet.”
“Yeah, but I’m not about to get fired for not being at the counter when they check the cameras tonight.”
“Then go back to the counter.”
“But there’s nobody to cook– nevermind,” I sat down on the ground and crossed my arms. “Forget I said anything.”
“Oh teacher, you forgot our homework!” Vivec mocked. I gave him an elbow in the ribs as he giggled at me, and the room fell into an awkward pause. The power flickered. You could easily hear the wind whistling against the building. It wasn’t anything super out of the ordinary, or even very extreme. Despite that, Nerevar was right. It really didn't hurt to get off our feet for a bit. Even though it was a dirty bathroom floor, it was still comfortable after the four hours of my shift that I'd been on my feet. I considered it a treat as I reached down to rub my calf and sighed. It was my birthday today, and I was counting the minutes to when I would feel 27 instead of 26.
“So, anyone wanna play a game? 20 questions.” Said Vivec.
“Can we not just sit here?” I replied.
“Nope. I’ll start. Nerevar, question one, yes or no. Did you eat my Kolossal Kahuna FishWich?”
“I cannot believe you’re still on this,” Nerevar sighed. “No, I didn’t.”
“That’s funny, because if I recall correctly, you’re the only one who likes onions as much as I do,” Vivec began, with a dopey smile on his face like he’d just uncovered some mystery. “And I loaded my Kolossal Kahuna FishWich with onions. Completely saturated with them. Wonderful gambit, I really do appreciate the effort and all, but I’m left FishWich-less because of it and what for? For you to sit here and lie to me?”
“I didn’t take your fucking fish, Vivec, I think Kagrenac tossed it out last he was here because you left it on the counter.” Nerevar snapped back.
“Can I request a bit of silence? You guys are making my head hurt,” Sil said as he leaned against the bathroom counter, pressing his fingers against his temples.
“Can I request you go back to your Wikipedia articles? I’m in the middle of something.” Vivec pulled out his vape and took a large hit, exhaling a massive cloud over the group. Everyone groaned.
“Vivec, I’ve told you multiple times that you need to take that outside,” Ayem said, covering her nose with her sleeve. “I mean, what the fuck even IS that flavor?”
“DooDoo.” Nerevar laughed. We all had a good chuckle at Vivec's expense before a cry broke through the air, muffled by the door.
“HELLO? Anybody in here?”
A customer. In this weather? No way.
“HELLOOOO?”
The group all looked to me, as the one who had complained about sitting down. Nerevar made a head gesture to the door, I scoffed and got to my feet, brushing myself off and making my way through the door. The absolute most that someone can do for morality’s sake is not go get fast food in dangerous weather, but apparently in America that’s somehow a hard task. I made my way out and saw one of our regulars at the counter, who raised his arms in a “what the hell” manner at me once he saw me approach.
“Sorry, sir, we were taking shelter.”
“Waffle House is open.” He said as I moved behind the counter towards the register. Vivec popped out shortly behind me, and I assumed his clouds had gotten him kicked out of the bathroom for the time being. He looked at me as he walked back into the kitchen, tying his apron around his waist.
“Waffle House is always open, sir. I can take your order whenever you’re ready.” I said as I popped my login code into the register. He was a regular, and I already knew his order by heart, but to try and trick me into thinking otherwise he decided to pretend to stare at the menu for a couple seconds before ordering exactly what I had already tapped in for him. The Flora-Bama Big Boy Burger combo, extra BBQ on the burger, with an onion ring on the side and a large fountain drink. He paid, and I heard Vivec shuffling about in the kitchen as he began dropping the rings for the order.
I leaned back against the wall and glanced at him slip into the walk-in before turning my gaze back out to the front dining room. The customer was quietly filling his drink at the fountain while the storm raged outside, and I could see the small table in the back where he’d set his bag and umbrella, as usual. He’d always choose to eat in for some reason, and I usually wouldn’t object, if not for the weather. A couple minutes passed, and I heard the beeper on the fryer going. It did not stop. Eventually the customer looked back at me, confused, and I decided to go back and check to see what the fuss was about. I looked to see Vivec still missing.
Cursing to myself, I stopped the timer and took out the rings, then stamped my way back to the walk in where I had seen Vivec go. I threw the door open, there he was in all his glory. A pipe in one hand, a lighter in the other; doe-eyed and red handed. I groaned, quietly so the customer wouldn’t hear, and gestured back to the kitchen. He understood, nodding while holding in a cough and stuffing the pipe back into where he had it stashed, pocketing the lighter. I went back into the kitchen with him and helped him make the burger so I wouldn't have to hear anything about the wait. It took a few minutes, but we managed to assemble something food-like and I sent the customer off to enjoy his meal.
“Where are all of you guys, anyway?” He said, turning back to me before he left. “Usually there’s more of you.”
“Like I said,” I replied, “We were taking shelter.”
“Oh. Well, stay safe out there.” He said.
“We will!” Vivec called from behind me. I turned back to him and glared as the customer wandered back to his seat. “Well, I’m going back to the bathroom. Are you coming with me?”
“No, I think I’ll stay out here for a bit.”
“Suit yourself.”
I suited myself and leaned back against my wall, watching the storm outside. This was also that magic I mentioned earlier, where you’d rather lean on your wall than get vaped on. I checked the time, and watched as it flipped past that minute mark that meant I was now officially 27. Growing older really doesn’t mean all that much, when you think about it. The time changed, and the only difference was that my friends were all in the bathroom, and I wasn’t.

I just finished my first playthrough of Metal Gear Solid. It was mostly blind (except for some pop-culture osmosis) and on normal difficulty. I wrote down a lot of my thoughts and live reactions because I thought it might be fun to read through. So have fun doing that if you want to:
-I really like that you have to watch the briefing through an extra menu option before hitting start. Just adds too the vibe
-50 Huskies. Genuinly why haven't I heard of that before?
-The controls are definitly something. I also kinda hate that the camera is so zoomed in that I spend most of my time looking at the radar
-God, I love ps1 wobbly textures so much
-The Hind is so sexy
-Why the fuck are chokehold and throw on the same fucking button?!!!
-Snake seems to be only slightly less horny than Kojima
-So was the Darpa Chief a psycho mantis illusion? What's going on here? Really nice intruige building btw
-Revolver Ocelot is such a bastard. I already love him.
-This boss fight was so weak. Teally hope the rest isn't that bad, but I honestly do not exspect much.
-I really love how Grey Fox (at least I think that's him from cultural osmosis) has a really wobbly eye. It clearly isn't part of his base texture. Just keeps moving around. I don't know if that's on purpose, but it's a great effect.
-This game really has some opinions on the mic, huh? Good for it, honestly. Shame that it has "the Gundam problem™"
-Did Meryl just say she hid the key in her pussy?!!!!
-Smoking damages you. Amazing
-Deepthroat
-Vulcan Raven feels like he's probably really problematic. I don't know enough about the first nations to know for sure, but I also don't think Kojima knows shit. That being said, I still think he's kinda cool
-The boss fight wasn't though. I feel a bit sad, yet vindicated.
-Uii, they're just toying with Snake! Fox-Hound are such cocky bastards. I love these guys so much
-Yooo, it's just like my japanese anime!!! (also piss. but that's like some anime too, I supose)
-Nice gimmick with this boss, sadly still shit
-Have I mentioned how much I love the wobbly red eye?
-Otacon is so pathetic. I love him.
-Who could have predicted that building the torment nexus from my favourite anime *do not build the torment nexus" for the military might be a bad idea? At least he knows he fucked up I guess.
-I haven't mentioned this so far, but the pacing of this game is honestly really good. There is always something happening, some gimmick being used, it's really great work
-Having to follow Meryl into the womens restroom to talk honestly doesn't feel that good.
-Holy shit, thry put so much efford into Meryls textures. Kojima is so fucking horny. Why can I see her nipples?!
-Psycho Mantis gas a really neat design, but I might also just have a thing for gasmasks.
-So I'm playing on pc and the way they did the "switch the controler port" thing is by having you switch out your controler for the keyboard. It's a really cool idea for how to preserve that moment. Unfortunatly, keyboard controls feel somehow even worse. 4/4 on kinda shit bossfights so far
-My dude is death monolging for so fucking long
-"Oh no, a tense moment! Better make the player run through half the map!" Insane design choice. Honestly dogshit.
-Using the sniper felt like dogshit as well. 5/5 on shit boss fights
-omg she's so fucking hot arf arf arf
-Liquid is such a whiny bitch. Only member of Fox-Hound I didn't love on sight. But maybe I could love to hate him. We will see. Also more Revolver Ocelot, yay :3
-I can see what they were going for with the torture minigame. Forcing the player to mash a button, thereby hurting/"torturing" them outside of the game as well. Neat idea.
-I like the negativ opinion this game has about nationalism, (liberal) politics and america
-"At least 20th century Russia had an ideology" I love both Shalshaska and this game
-"That's paricide! -yup" lmao
-I adore the 2D maggots
-Otacon is crushin on sniper wolf almost as hard as I am
-They are really stretching playtime by having you run back to the same point over and over again. It'a noticable and definitly not in a positive way
-the time bomb is a nice touch
-omg the hanky makes the doggos luv you <3
-I literaly just went through this part, why do they play a flashback?
-Naomi is shipping Snake and Meryl so hard lmao
-PS1 RATS!!!
-I hate those stairs with a passion
-The Hind is so sexy
-You know "Do you think love can bloom, even on a battlefield" has been memed to death, but it's honestly such a good line
-The Hind was the first boss fight that was really fun for me.
-The Elevator ambush fucking got me lmao
-Noooo, I don't wanna kill her (especially because it'll probably be another shit boss fight)
-I hate being right sometimes
-Wait, she's kurdish?! I should really check up on rojava, give a bit to the kurdish red crescent again
-Wow, her death really did make me feel bad :( (even though she took even longer to die than Psycho Mantis)
-That whole scene also made me really apreciate the music in this game. It's been great the whole time, but here especially so
-Master Miller being like "her story is bullshit, Hoover was to racist for that" is so fucking funny.
-I sadly already know that he's Liquid, but that whole convo is also so fucking sus
-In the intro for the Vulcan Raven rematch now. This game is really trying to be as racist as Hoover, huh?
-Wow, those were some fast working ravens
-Wait, did Naomi actualy kill The "Darpa Chief" (Decoy Octopus)? Did she inject Snake with some gene-bullshit in the beginning that kills certain people? She is a genetecist after all. Maybe something targeting those "soldier genes" the game keeps babbleing about?
-I like how they wrapped up the "new kind of nuclear weapon" plot. Sure, a railgun is kinda insane, but they manage to justify it.
-Can you imagine a world with less US-american SDI spending? Incomprehensible plot point tbh
-Ha, I was right! Naomi fucking killed them! I feel so smart! (FoxDie is a bit on the nose though)
-Love how Metal Gear Rex looks btw. A rwal beauty. Even more sexy than the Hind
-The russians involvement in all this does honestly feel very in character
-Are they going to make me activate the nuke for Liquid? Would be a nice twist.
-Why does it feel like Liquid is so horny for Snake? He's so obsessed, it's embarrassing
-I hate how they make me run around to change the key. Honestly just stretching out the game. Kills some tension too
-a fucking trapdoor got me lmao
-The runback is soo looong!!! It's okay, your game is allowed to be 20 Minutes shorter, you don't have to stretch it this way
-Final confirmation for Naomi being a tier one assassin
-She's Rhodesian?!!
-I kinda love Naomis character and her motivations, I think
-Cambell is a bitch as motherfucker btw. He has been for the whole game, but I feel like I need to mention it at some point
-Ha, fucking knew that thing with the nuke
-The Liquid reveal is really well made btw.
-Liquid Snake doesn't know shit about genetics. "I got all the ressesive genes" Dumb motherfucker
-Rex is so fucking sexy
-Otacon designing Rex with a weak point because he thought Rex would be cuter that way is so fucking valid
-Nice Gray Fox backstory
-Boss fight is shit as well btw
-Wait, this game does the whole hotline miami "You enjoy hurting people" thing???
-Super Baby Method
-Liquid (and by extension Kojima) still don't know shit about genetics
-I like the fmv bits a lot btw
-I should look into both Iraq wars I think
-The voice acting in this game is surprisingly good btw
-The final fist fight on top of Rex was almost comedic
-I don't completely buy the romance with Meryl
-On the other hand, I completely get why people ship Snake and Otacon
-Wait, Liquid's still alive?!
-Well, now he isn't
-I really liked the ending. Nice message
-He's called David?!
-I liked the game way more than I exspected, even though it has a bunch of flaws
-It also had a way smaller focus on stealth than I exspected
-I'll probably do a short, comprehensive post on my thoughts as well
Thanks for reading. Feel free to ask me stuff

Multiverse Tales Characters in the World of MHA/BNHA 1/?
Real Name : Benny Sharp Quirk : Battery - He can transfer energy into non-living objects, either from himself, others, or other energy sources. Age : 34 Alias : Bullshit Course at (Hero High Canada) : Support Occupation : Owner of Benny Sharp Business (BS Business), salesman of under the table support tech. Relations : Champagne (Partner), Cosmara (foster daughter), Kayla (Mentee), Vasilia (Best Friend), Archibald (Frenemy?) Sharp Gang™ (Nibling figures?)
Lore and Art Below Cut :
At age 15 he enrolled at (Hero High Canada), and was taken into the Support Course. There he was kidnapped befriended by another Support student, Koko Hatsume, a girl with a quirk that let her create single sense illusions at the loss of another sense (e.g. could make it feel really cold, but she can't hear). They get along like they've been friends since birth, which is unfortunate for the rest of the Course because when they get an idea, they're unstoppable.
The middle of the first semester comes along, and with it, the HHC equivalent of the Sports Festival. Except along with voluntary sparring matches, there's also timed building competitions, friendly sporting matches, and stalls run by mostly the Business Course kids, but technically anyone willing to help is welcome. And, rather than having to pay to enter, it occurs at a local park and anyone can walk by.
It is here, that the chaos duo become a chaos trio, as they set their eyes on a brash Hero Course student. Ada Wells, a first year with a quirk capable of manipulating water vapour.
It takes a little while to convince, him, but eventually their manipulation convincing gets through to him and he agrees to hang out with them. Even better, he agrees to let them design his hero costume, and oh boy do they get hyped over that. The Canadian Dumbigos are gonna run the world once they get out of school!
They get to the start of their third year. They're all interning at the same agency, and an earthquake results in all hands on deck being needed to help manage damage. Benny and Koko manage surveillance while Spout helps with evacuation. Then Koko's gone, darting in front of cameras as she runs to somewhere Benny can't see and he's left running after her, calling Spout to come help because the aftershock hasn't stopped and she's a civilian running into an active Rescue Site.
They find her cradling a kid with bubblegum pink hair as her own support tech lifts a car off of them. If the kid had been different, if they hadn't had that pink hair that reminded her of her baby cousin maybe she'd have realised running in was a bad idea. If it wasn't his best friend, maybe Benny wouldn't have run to her. If the ground hadn't shook seconds after he moved, maybe Spout wouldn't have had to waste precious water covering their mouths and noses as impromptu respirators. If Koko's tech was sturdier, maybe she would have been able to hold the debris off longer.
But everything happened too quick, and they were stuck under a triangle of broken road, with Benny's quirk being the only thing keeping them clear. Koko's unconscious, Spout is trapped in the road and Benny is holding the ceiling up. The kid's the only one who can wiggle out, running for help.
But Benny's not infallible and hasn't been training for the last three years to use his quirk. The corners of his eyes burn with pain as blood mixes with tears as he fights to stay standing. And Spout can see that, can see that help won't arrive fast enough. He tells Benny to leave, to save himself. But Benny Sharp is nothing if not stubborn. So Ada sighs, and tells him he loves him. And uses the remaining water in his belt to shove the boy free from the cavern.
Rocks fall and crush his legs just above his knees, but he's alive. He's alive. He's...
He never returns to school after rehab. He disappears, completely off the radar. A few years go by and black market tech increases in quality. He stays on the move, doesn't let himself get comfortable. He throws himself into his work and crafts a facade of cheer. His new friends know no different. His new lovers never last. He doesn't let himself gets attached and instead floats, recognised but never known.
And then he goes to bust his cousin out of a police station and sees a tween getting dragged in, an odd device held in the accompanying hero's hand.
He finds himself with a shadow after that, helping the young designer to harness her quirk. She's able to manipulate code to a minor degree, but more importantly, she can control AI, and has been using this power to track down malicious creatures that have been scourging the underground. She's worked out if enough bronze is incorporated into the secluded devices she traps them in, they can't get out. She got caught trying to catch one of these creatures by Red Eegress, the hero who had held her allied AI, Charlie.
He takes the girl under his wing and supplies her with anything she asks for so long as she lets him see her designs. Then, once the girl turns 15, he helps her get into HHC. And if his fondness is twinged with nostalgia and a bittersweet heartache, then no one else needs to know.

Police departments in mahou shoujo shows aren't particularly smart.
Tumblr media
Let's take H2O G1 as an example. Had I been a police constable in southeast Australia, it'd take me a mere 10 episodes into season 1 before I'd caught them wide open.
The approach would be simple: • Navy anti-torpedo radars would detect seeming torpedos blasting around at freaking 130km/h forth and back between Unspecified Australian City and Mako Island. • Once the "torpedos" stop to a halt, local boats' fishing radars would detect something at the stop area that was the size of a small dolphin or three.
Already at that point the mermaids would be an easy deal to find. It wouldn't take like 9 seasons across 4 generations to do. But just in case: • Set up detection equipment and underwater cameras along the approximate route. Set the cameras to a recording livestream, and also look out for if any equipment get damaged in unusual ways (Safe to say coastal Australia in mid-summer doesn't have cameras freeze to ice). • To hammer the deal, set up wildlife cameras along the west, south, and east beach-to-forest treshold, and a few inside the forest too. Plus some cameras outside local surf shops and piers in the city.
At that point, it's game over for the mermaids, but they'd be paid big money™ to fix underwater pipe leaks at 150m depth and to join swimming shows. Quite possibly would people find out how to transform more people into mermaids. They would not be dissected, no matter how much District 9 four years later claim they would.
(And this isn't even getting into how I'd get Hawkmoth raided and arrested in Paris within 4 weeks.)

Baby Monitor Features Every New Parent Should Look for
As a new parent, you’re over the moon about bringing your little one home. But eventually, the time comes when you can’t cuddle them in your arms and need to rest. Whether they're in their crib or the arms of other caregivers, a multi-tasking baby monitor can help you keep eyes and ears on your baby without needing to be in the same room. So, whether you’re shopping for your family or selecting the right tech to add to your registry, here are four baby monitor features to consider.
1. Smart Technology
When you’re not in the same space as your baby, your new parent radar may go off. Put your mind at ease with a smart baby monitor that can track your baby's vitals. By monitoring your baby’s heart rate, you’ll know when and if they sleep soundly. Similarly, a baby oxygen monitor can update you on whether your baby’s oxygen saturation levels are normal or not.
Tumblr media
2. Video and Audio Capabilities
With a newborn, seeing is just as important as hearing. Look for a baby monitor that provides high-definition video through a camera and allows you to listen and respond to your baby with two-way communication. High-quality camera features are especially important for clearly observing or checking in on your little one. If possible, find a baby monitor that includes nightlight capabilities, which can help reduce harsh room light while providing enough illumination to soothe your baby to sleep or change a diaper in the middle of the night.
3. Environmental Sensors
Did you know a baby’s ideal room temperature is 65-72° Fahrenheit? If you’re a new parent, this might be news to you, but anything above or below can prevent your baby from getting the restful sleep they need. Look for a baby temperature monitor that reads the room temperature and humidity conditions to ensure your baby’s environment is comfortable and meets their growing needs and lets you know of any anomalies.
Tumblr media
4. Smartphone App Functionality
Raising a newborn is often marked by periods of brain fog. Instead of trying to remember your baby's habits, consider a baby monitoring app that keeps track for you. With data tracking capabilities, you can easily track your baby's sleep patterns, diaper changes, and feeding times at the click of a button. You can also monitor your baby’s weight and height measurements in one convenient location. This will make pediatric visits a breeze with the information readily available at your fingertips.
Of course, the best baby monitor is the one that works best for your family. So, when you’re shopping for the right baby monitor, make sure it includes as many of these features to support you and your baby’s well-being, allowing you to rest assured that your baby is comfortable and happy.

The case against Procreate™
This is about the iPad software for drawing. It will make zero sense if you aren't familiar with it.
Look, Procreate's done. After years of being the standout, killer app for sketching and painting, with yearly feature updates...
... it's now failed out.
About the last three 'updates' have been "A quick compatibility update for the amazing things that are coming".
And then there were never any updates.
We're on year three of waiting for the next update. The point update from 5.3 to 5.4 is 12 months overdue. But don't worry as of today the fifth month of 2025, it's still slated for 'early' 2025. So it should be out earlier this year.
The official story was that the company wanted to dump resources into their Procreate Dreams animation app - y'know, the one that was so full of bugs that it would give you blurry results?
Well they got that out, farted out a couple of half hearted bug fixes and... nothing so far.
So where's ProCreate at?
The colour blending is borked. It used to work, now it doens't. As per https://folio.procreate.com/discussions/3/6/60347 I mean the entire point of the app is to let you put colours on a screen so this is kind of a biggy
Tumblr media
The fill is still about as sophisticated as original flavour MS Paint. In an age where anti-aliased lines are normal, and gap detection is standard, WTF?
Smudge is a shitshow. Doesn't pay any attention to any of the brush settings apart from shape. Barely.
Camera Blur & Bokeh haven't been back ported from Procreate Dreams
No image tube for making zippers, lace etc.
No ruler guides for lining things up - Tehre's perspective guides but you can't just drag down a line for a reference or to draw a straight line with. OK you know what: No ruler tool for drawing lines or curves
The app has a texture library and an entire subsystem for tiling textures... but you can't apply them to a layer or selection
Built in 3D rendering system... but no library for adding maquettes, props, or posing dolls to use as reference.
No layer FX for outer glow, drop shadow etc.
No pixl sizes for brushes. Want to change brush size? Guess. Why? Fuck you is why. Because none of the brushes are the same size. They vary wildly, from almost a thousand pixels wide to like 20 px. And the slider tells you nothing.
So what's on the release radar for early 2025?
Uhhhh a brush library. Brush search Uhhhh Sync brushes with iCloud? For some reason? New Brush Setting! (But not what that setting might be, because why would anyone want to know?) That was promised 36 weeks ago. 9 months. People have had an entire human being get built and delivered while we're waiting for Procreate to add a search box to the brush panel. In the existing Brush Library.
It occurs to me that when they say 'Brush Library' they mean a webstore full of one click download brushes, probably with a 70/30 split and monetisation options.
Meanwhile we still can't do depth of field lens blur or fill an area without it half assing it.
Or blend colours correctly. I know I can't get overlay to work on top of Ultramarine any more. A thing that still works 100% fine in Clip Studio, Art Studio Pro, Serif or Fresco, and which used to work fine.

POST SERIES 9 AU (that i haven’t named yet) BITS AND PIECES
he uses the name robert bell (for whom the bell tolls has a lot of moments that are very lucas aesthetic™ for me so i’m taking the character robert jordan and meshing his name with part of the book’s title)
he wears colored contacts. technically, he can change them out to different colors, but he won’t. its his opinion that striking eye colors make a person stand out, hence his switch to brown. blue obviously, is his natural color, and everyday people aren’t going to think colored contacts when they first meet someone
his tattoos are obviously a BIG indicator of who he is. like top thing he needs to fix. He begins before he ever leaves, considering removal is a time consuming process. His excuse, if anyone happens to take notice, is an easy one. The tattoos he has are associated with russia and what happened to him there. He wants to move on. People buy it, they understand it, they encourage it. He does leave quite a few which he begins to cover up/incorporate into more intricate tattoos without anyone knowing. He uses an alias unknown to mi5 when getting them and pays with cash so there is no trace and no way for anyone to visit the artist and ask what the new designs looked like.
Aurora has contacts through her career in journalism that would help obtain false identities. this is crucial, because most of lucas’ (both aliases and contacts used to get them) would be known by mi5
he has always taken out bits of cash from his account, especially when paid. he claims he doesn’t trust banking systems completely and asks if anyone can really blame him considering what they see on a daily basis. as such, he’s sitting on a fairly good stockpile when he leaves.
for the first few months after ‘running’, he allows his hair to get insanely long but eventually changes it to something a bit more neatly trimmed and grows a beard.
tends to avoid airports etc for travel because ...cameras... and obviously flight logs and records of passengers would make it very easy to be traced. He tends to either rent his own cars with an alias (with cash) or will hire a private plane etc (also with cash and an alias).
On the subject of aliases: He introduces himself to people as Robert Bell. For all intents and purposes, if he is in a place where he is trying to ‘settle down’, that is how he introduces himself. When hiring cars for travel or doing anything that involves any sort of ‘work’ that he is afraid might lead mi5 to him, aliases differ. He doesn’t often use one more than once within a certain time period.
As they travel from place to place, Lucas and Aurora operate essentially as grifters in the beginning. They pick up odd jobs involving the need for someone discreet. A quick errand or three - a cheating husband, stealing something back from the ex wife during the night, easy things.
Eventually, they settle in a country that has no extradition treaty with the uk. Lucas originally thinks belarus will be a good idea - it’s proximity to russia are what offers him the most hope and the most unease simultaneously. worried about the FSB, he eventually settles on (i say he, but really its aurora making the decision)  cyprus and they take refuge there.
he is not afraid of any intelligence agency bringing him to heel. he is prepared ( he believes) for anything mi5 or anyone they ally themselves with might throw at him.
once settled in cyprus, he allows himself to look ‘professional’ once more, but he still stays fairly under the radar. their story is they are expatriates just looking for an escape from it all and tired of the cold. While they were still in Britain,  “Robert” worked as a financial advisor for a bank and “Jordan” taught primary school. They have been married a year and, after taking into consideration the fact that he was tiring of his job and she was grieving the loss of her mother, decided to relocate. Looking for something profound, just like in every other autobiography you see on the shelves.
